NHL Preseason Highlights | Islanders vs. Devils – September 23, 2025

and then Romanov getting a chance to maybe play the rest of the game as that’ll be the formula here early in the preseason for the goalenders. And we’re underway. Thanks for joining us here on a Tuesday night from the Rock. It’s the Devils. It’s the Islanders. Fans still filing into the building. Holstrom with a backhand trying to get it out of the zone, but can’t get it by the Devils as the Devils fiercely trying to keep it alive with Ziggunthaler. Slides it pass to Heir. Hamilton with a bomb and a save by Oberg. goes to the far wall and Mercer. Mercer drops it off for Heir. Gets cut off and cleared back out to center and the Islanders hit with their first rush. Heinman dribbles a puck near the net. Knocked aside by Marstrom and clear by Seganthal but not out of his own. Held in by Holstrom. Far boards looking for somebody to pass to. Slides a pass out to Beckman and his backhand goes off the side of the net. It’s great to see Jack Hughes back out on the ice. I know it’s preeason, but it’s been quite some time. I’m sure he’s excited after he went down in Las Vegas at the end of the year. Neb gets laid out by Mlan and we get a whistle. Penalty killer for the Islanders. So, he finishes his check. Neb’s a little off balance, but Nebs, you got to stand up for yourself. Go back at him. Good clean hit there. Yeah, as he takes him out hard there, Bryce, right? And well, it’s just nice to see him to find that he found some swagger again, right? like tough start and then you have a strong finish like he did, it goes a long way and you can see it in camp. Ritz with a backhand ends up on net doesn’t get through. Held up by Andre Palad who sends it back down. Nice for check by Glenn Denning. Forces the turnover back at the point pass with a shot deflected in front. Nice pad save by Hberg. Two guys that are leaders and a lot championships. Brown with a lot of that Stanley Cup pedigree. Alone in the Segan Therave by Hobberg. They haven’t found the back of the net yet. Long shootout in that game between the Islanders and the Flyers. I’m not missing a day, right? It was last night. Yeah, that was Sunday. Was it Sunday excuse? You know, I think his first priority is just getting through all 82 games, right? He wants to come and be able to produce a point a game at least and and be a reason why this team Dylan with a shot. Brown backhand and safe kicks to the far wall and [Applause] Hughes t-shirt’s got some speeds. Got an angle partial break save Hullberg and he gobbles up the rebound. 714 left. Devils on the power play with another great chance. Look at it. The burst from Heir down the right side, gets around Romangh and the quick wristster, but Oldberg’s there prepared for those fast strides. Hamilton between the circles. Brad one-time by Hughes. Save by Hogberg. Then a blast by Hamilton who scores. A Howitzer gives the New Jersey Devils a one to nothing lead. [Music] Douggee Hamilton has a shot that can beat Goenders clean and they need him to have a big gear if they’re going to take another step. And after Jack Hughes gets stopped initially on one shot, he gets the puck back. You know, play so well in front of him. They block shots, they commit to defending, and it’s because of how he treats the players. Oh boy. straight away and the shot between the circles. An absolute blast by Heinaman gets through Marstrom. Power play goal for the Islanders on their first shot of the game and they tie the game at one. First shot of the game and actually I thought it was a heck of a save initially by Marstrom. Just gets himself in that that area where the per pass has to be perfect and it is right in his wheelhouse. He doesn’t have much time to release it, but it’s a quick one and a great shot. And you see, look, Markstrom has it, but ends up Wow. A little different rolling over the back after the save and down the so shots are 15 to one, but the only only stat on the big board that counts is it’s 1-1. Zikas can’t get it through. Gh. and a glove saved by Marstrom and he holds on. Two goals quickly. He makes a really good save here. And now all of a sudden the Islanders have some life. It’s Sikas goes to the net. That puck’s bouncing and it’s Gcom with the quick shot. There’s that puck like they did the first 40 games or so of the season where special teams won them a lot of games and usually the team that wins wins the special teams battle a lot of the time wins hockey games. Georgia Romangh is now in the pipe for the New Jersey Devils. Just five shots on goal. One for two New Jersey. Here’s you dangling. Finds Heir back behind the net. Can’t get it to Mercer so he sends it back out to the far wing and Brat Heir. Brat Brat straight away. Heer one timer scores. You go Heir on the power play and the Devils retake the lead. It’s two to one. [Music] There’s some of that power play magic. And let’s take a look at a million dollar replay brought to you by the New Jersey Lottery. Remember, anything can happen in Jersey and just for Brat where he just slides to the middle. Uh he’s got those quick hands I tal about. So he’s got options to Hamilton, but he sells that and kind of no look pass to Heir and that doesn’t allow the goalender to get down. You and I killed a lot of penalties. Here comes Brat. Loses the angle. Tries a wrap around and it doesn’t go. Well, Devils almost go up 3-1. There’s the quickness of Jesper Bratton. The the wraparound just couldn’t quite tuck it short side. One more look just loses the handle and slides through the crease. You see good job by HSN to cut off Hughes, but the Devils do get it back. Pass between the circles. Brad finds shoes and the shot doesn’t get through. So it goes all the way down for the Islanders as Seganthalers looking for an exit strategy and finds one with Edwards. That stretch pass doesn’t get through, but then it connects back to Glen Denning on the backhand and a save by sports back out of the zone and down. Seanthaller on his horse to get there. He’s got Gochier in his back pocket up the wall and out. Brown Dilly Palot cross ice pass out to Brown with a shot and he scores. Conor Brown, one of the newest Devils, gives New Jersey a 3 to1 lead as they’ve spent a lot of time in the offensive zone, but this is off the rush. Nice quick pass up ice by Dylan to Palant and he finds Brown right through the seam. Good pass there on the tape from Andre Palant. Look at the head up all the way by Connor Brown. And that’s a goalcorer shot there up and down the lineup. You got to see if he can adjust. Patrick W brought Tristan Lennox in so he can get half of some work. How about a shot from Mercer and scores. Puck rolls right to him. Didn’t even hesitate. 4-1 New Jersey. One-time has your first shot. That’s That’s almost unfair right here. Perfectly laid. And Mercer gets all of it. He just lets it fly. As you mentioned, one for one the Islanders trying to climb back into this game with less than six to play in the second. Bringing it into the zone. Shot. Big save by Romangh. Mlan. Couple of moves, but loses the puck to Hughes. Hughes with a head of steam to Brat. Brat with an angle is shot and a shoulder save by Lennox. There was already a connection right on your statement. Oh, nice shot by rebound and a big save by Lennox. They put the light on, but this goal looks like it’s not going to count. Low Donovan. Meyer spins far wall. Donov back behind the net. Back up top to Meyer. Meyer quickly back up top. Nez with a shot save. Rebound. Danov scores on the power play and the route is on. It’s six to one. [Music] A lot of this created by good puck movement and Palot in front uh providing a screen creating some chaos that allows Donanov right there on the rebound. The goalender Lennox can’t handle it. Can’t handle the shot from from Nemits from the point. Richie top of that near circle now to the slot. Drags it out to the blue line. Spins to the wing. Shot save. Goes back out to the corner. Richie drags it back out. Back up top for Holstrom. Minute nine to go on the five on three. Quick shot score on the five on three. Richie gets the tally. Second power play goal for the Islanders at 6-2. And they’ll still have over a minute of power play time to carve into the deficit further. And when he’s got time and he can really shoot the puck, head up all the way. Screen in front and perfectly placed. Yeah, he’s 6’2 Glen Denning line with Brown and Blot. They’ve been hard to play against. Teo Meyer back behind the net. Centers one. It doesn’t connect. And then when it does, rebound gobbled up by Lennox. Can’t get the rebound. Nifty pass to Gritslick, but his momentum took him out of the zone. And that will do it. 32 and one. Devils one and one on the young preeason as they blitz the Islanders here at the Rock six-2. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music]

Dougie Hamilton and Dawson Mercer each posted a goal and an assist as the New Jersey Devils cruised to a 6-2 victory over the New York Islanders. Jack Hughes picked up two assists in the win.
