A.Q. Shipley Goes Inside The Arizona Cardinals Film Room: Week 3
Fourth and goal at the one. Snap to Jones. He’s going to throw. Backing up. Throws left side and it’s broken up. Incomplete. M. Wilson hits McCaffrey at the two yd line. AQ Shipley here bringing you inside the film room. Week three. Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco. Maybe the most exciting play of the entire game. M. Wilson running through Christian McCaffrey on the goal line stopping a touchdown. Let’s watch this play. Man coverage down on the goal line. You know, the ball’s going to Christian McCaffrey, right? Who’s Christian McCaffrey? That guy. He’s the guy that they go to every chance they can. So, the Cardinals come out and here’s what’s really cool about what they do. They know it’s going to be some type of empty protection because Christian McCaffrey is not going to stay in in protection. They know it’s going to be a free release somehow. We know it’s man coverage. Six guys up versus five protectors on offense. Somebody’s going to be free. They decide to let Darius Robinson go free right up the B gap, which causes M. Jones to throw this ball just a little bit early. We’re going to get Christian McCaffrey out on a route right here, trying to go across the formation, hoping that M. Wilson gets picked off right here by some of these crossing routes coming this way. Doesn’t happen. Unbelievable play. Watch M. Wilson stare down Christian McCaffrey. Run step for step for him and put his shoulder through his sternum just the way it’s meant to be. Let’s watch this thing run. Sees it. Go get it. Se ball. Get ball. Boom. Now let’s go to the next play. Let’s take a look at why Trey Benson’s run down the right sideline in the third quarter that got the Cardinals back in the game was so good. As you see, Tip Ryman right here on the right hand side lined up. And now we’re gonna send Trey McBride over. We call that tight end wing or firm right into the boundary. And as you see this, I’m gonna let this run. Trey comes over. I’ll show you how this is going to go. So soon as this guy walks out right here, man. Man, man. On the left hand side, we’re going to work a deuce combination up to Fred Warner. Josh Frier is going to climb right up here to winners. Tip Ryman man here. Trey McBride’s gonna come here because he thinks he’s most dangerous. He has an option to block either here, here, or here. He decides Dwinnersy is the most dangerous. So Trey goes here. Watch how smart this is by the rookie Josh Frier as he climbs up to his guy, sees Trey McBride, ends up making the saving block as Fred Warner comes over the top. You’ll see Josh Frier head on a swivel, look left, come back, seal Fred Warner, which allows Trey Benson on the duo downhill scheme, double team at the point of attack, go here. Fred’s about to make the play. Gets depleted by the rookie Josh Frier. And then out the gate. Let’s let this thing run. Boom. Hand it off. Double team over the top. Frier. Bam. Trey Benson. Break a tackle. Get downfield. Huge run. Big time play in the third quarter when you need it most. [Music]

What we need is a breakdown of why this team cannot close out a 4th Quarter lead. When a single first down is needed, they can’t get it. When a defensive stop is needed, they can’t get one. The offense is so bland and inept and now that Conner is out, what can they possibly do. I predict the Seahawks will win big again. Holding a lead won’t be an issue.
