Kurt Warner On Drew Petzing, Arizona Cardinals Receiver Usage and Marvin Harrison Jr.’s Confidence

The Arizona Cardinals are about 24 hours from being back on the grid iron trying to maybe wash the taste out of their mouth from a bad performance against the 49ers against a tough defense in the Seattle Seahawks. What’s ailing the Cardinals offense? Johnny Venerable. We’ve got an expert to help us out. Yeah, number 13, the Hall of Famer Curt Warner joins us. We’re going to talk about it all. Marvin Harrison Jr., can it be remedyed, Drew Petting, Kyler Murray playing better than the numbers indicate. PHNX Cardinals with the Hall of Famer starts now. Kurt, we pre-orned Kurt off air that we’re disappointed in the Cardinal offense and we got a lot of numbers and statistics to throw at the Hall of Famer. But Kurt, you obviously watched the game Sunday. Cardinals struggled against San Francisco. They’ve had a tough time scoring points this year. Just kind of your overall assessment with what’s going on with this offense right now. If you’re going to look at the game on Sunday, I think you have to look at all the different parts. And you know, I’m not sure there was a part that played extremely well. is that they struggled to run the football. We all know what’s happened what happened to James and that’s that’s a bummer because I think he’s really been the identity of this team or what they wanted the identity to be for a couple years now. Um, you know, I don’t think Kyler played his best game. I think he missed a number of throws that he normally would make. Uh, and then there was a number of drops on the outside. You know, when he put the ball where he wanted to put the ball, there was a number of issues on the outside as well. And so, man, it it’s tough to have good offense when you don’t have, you know, particular unit or position that plays extremely well. And I I don’t think they did that on Sunday. And so, you know, you start adding all those pieces together and and that’s what it was. It was a struggle to score points. It was a struggle to sustain drives. Um, you know, so you’re you’re hoping when you go out there at least you have one or two of those units that are hitting on all cylinders, but they just weren’t um this past weekend. You know, when we start to put the puzzle together though, Kurt, of the three games we’ve seen from the Arizona Cardinals, nothing has looked easy offensively. Sure, they were able to escape with a pair of wins week one, week two. Have you seen a theme though carry on with this offense that could point to their main struggles? Well, I mean, I think, you know, you have to kind of figure out, you know, who are you as an offense? How do you want to hang your hat? And as I was saying, I think this team um had kind of solidified themselves as a as a run first team over the last couple years. Um you know, and so I think it it starts there is is being dominant in the run game. But when it comes to the pass game, to me, the biggest thing is that, you know, we haven’t seen very many big plays in this offense. And it’s tough to play in this business. And I don’t care how good you are. Um you know, we talk a lot about the Chiefs last year. Chiefs won a lot of football games. Uh, and they were the best in the league at long drives. Uh, but they weren’t the best in the league at scoring points because it’s really hard to score points and score a lot of points when you have to take long drives every time. So, a big part of, you know, this league is the teams that score a lot of points are the teams that have the ability to generate big plays. Um, and it can be run pass, doesn’t really matter, but have the ability consistently um, you know, to create big plays. And that to me has been where this team has been missing. And so when you don’t have big plays, now it comes down to efficiency. And it comes down to efficiency in all the different areas that we’re talking about. And when you’re not efficient, when you have to take 12 plays to score points and you’re not efficient in one area, um you’re not going to do that very often. And so, you know, I think that’s what we’re seeing right now is that we’re not seeing the creation or the big plays being made um any way, shape, or form. Whether that’s a run game, whether that’s Kyler creating some, whether that’s big plays on the outside, whether that’s by design or with guys making big plays, we’re not seeing it. And so, um, you know, with their offense that I I don’t think has been the most efficient either because of all those pieces we’ve talked about, it’s going to be hard to score a lot of points by taking the long road every single time. And so, that to me has been the biggest thing that has stood out to me is um not generating big plays, which is leading to what we’re seeing is good moments um but not sustained greatness to to allow them to to score points on the end of those long drives. we touched on before the show. There’s a statistic that’s really kind of floating around with Cardinal fans and I think it it speaks to what you just talked about. The Cardinals target their receivers the least amount in the NFL at 38% I think the most. Number one, the Chargers, the Rams are up there well over 70% and directly or indirectly, Kurt, like those are the offenses right now that are really humming around the NFL. And we here locally feel like Cardinals have good receivers. Michael Wilson was drafted by this regime. of course, you know, all the narrative surrounding Marvin Harrison Jr. right now. Is it possible for receivers with that few of targets throughout four quarters to get into a rhythm? Because I come to the conclusion that like you’re going to get drops when guys aren’t expecting the football and they go for lols over the course of a four quarter game. Yeah. So, let me just start there. I’m gonna ask you guys a question. Okay. So, they target their wide receivers, you know, less than anybody in the league or or most people. Why Why do you think that is like what is what is your take on that? Um, you know, just from big picture perspective, um, is it play calling, design? Is it what is it to you guys? Bo, I’ll let you answer this. Yeah, I think it’s a product of Kyler Murray taking a lot of what the defense is giving him. um not forcing the issue with his wide receivers and taking a lot of checkdowns with running backs and tight ends. Okay. And and so again, you like if that’s the case and if you’re taking what the defense is giving you, um you know, that can’t necessarily be a bad thing. And you know, a lot of people are pointing at the offensive coordinator, excuse me, with Drew. And you just have to ask like all plays are designed to go to a wide receiver or obviously a tight end, right? I mean, they’re not designed in most cases to go to a running back, you know, to go to a a checkdown. So, you know, so there’s something else going on in terms of why are they not getting targeted? Is it they’re not getting open when they have the opportunity? Is it Kyler not um you know, not getting it to them when they’re open? uh you know, but I don’t think it’s because they’re not designing plays for their guys because when you design a pass play, it’s designed to go to one of those guys on the outside 90% of the time. And so, um, but I mean, I think to your point is that, yeah, if you’re not expecting the ball to come to you, um, you can be surprised when it does come to you. Um now I mean there’s obviously always a level of professionalism that um you know it shouldn’t matter like if we’re running the ball um you know majority of the time and and they’re going to need me to throw on third down. I can’t say well gosh I didn’t think we’d have to throw it because we’ve run it every other time. So man that you know sorry you know you can’t expect me to be good when uh when I have to throw it when you don’t give me a lot of opportunities. No, I mean you know so just like a receiver but okay you haven’t thrown it to me much. Well now you’ve thrown it to me. Make the catch. like make the play. Like that’s that to me is not an excuse that you haven’t given me enough targets. So um so I’m allowed to drop a couple when they do come my direction, you know? It’s about focus. It’s about going, hey, every snap I got to do my job because it might be the snap that I get the ball. Okay, it wasn’t. Well, I got to make sure I do it the next time. Um you know, so you know, I think it is, you know, going back and trying to figure out why that is, you know, and I again, I think it’s a variety of reasons. I think there are times where their receivers aren’t getting open or or you know aren’t fast enough uh into their routes. You know, there was a deep over that they had called that was u you know designed to go to Marvin um and he was on the backside and as he was trying to get into his over route he ran into you know a linebacker or a nickel defender or somebody and so now he’s stuck on the backside and never gets to where he needs to be fast enough you know. So, that’s one where who knows, maybe the defense dictates to throw to the over and now it’s not available. I think there are times where for me, Kyler goes through things too fast and he gets to his check down too fast instead of letting something come open or or really seeing the defense and going, “Okay, the defense is telling me that’s going to be open. I’m gonna wait an extra tick for it because um the defense has dictated that instead of you know going and getting um a completion, you know, and so, you know, there’s there’s so many different factors, you know, and like even the um you know, the the safety that Kyler took in the game, you know, so like I’m always trying to figure out, okay, the why of everything and and every play is different, but you know, there are plays in the course of the game where I do say, well, he’s going through things too fast and getting to his checkown too fast. So then down on that play, you know, he’s his feet are in the end zone and they call a play that’s actually a man play. It’s double deep crossers which is designed specifically for man coverage and they got zone coverage right off the bat. So that was one to me where as a quarterback I’m going, okay, I’m down in my own end zone and the play is designed for man and I got zone. Get it to my check down quick, right? Because I don’t want to hold the ball in in the end zone. I don’t want to try to wait and hope one of these plays comes open in zone. let me just get my check down in that situation. And obviously that one he held longer and tried to create something and then it led to uh the safety. And so I’m always trying and again I don’t have the insight. I didn’t talk to Kyler. I don’t know what the answer is. Uh but you know some of those things that I watched through the course of the game and you know sometimes it seems almost backwards to me um in that regard is like hey this one defense hold on to it just a tick longer try to get that big play and then in certain situations hey check it if it’s not there go get your completion get us out of you know you know the the the shadow of our own end zone and let’s you know kind of live for another day. you know, to kind of piggyback this conversation, we talked to Kyler Murray at his, you know, weekly press conference and he had said he’s facing a ton of two high safety looks and, you know, the game plan’s usually to force them more into a dink and dunk and he’s been taking that as a quarterback. Is is there ever a you walk that line of taking what the defense is giving you? Do you ever force the issue? Is it is it ever taken on your shoulders that you have to force the issue to to make those big splash play? You’re asking a guy that threw a lot of interceptions. So, uh yeah, I always force the issue. Um you know, and you know, but that was part of how I played. like I was a gunslinger and I was going to take chances and um I was going to fit it into tight windows and I was gonna and I knew, you know, there was going to be one or two that would go against me, but I’m going to make six or seven or eight or nine and um and it’s going to outweigh that and um and and I also felt like if I attack defense, so you know, I I talked to Jordan Love about this the other day because I think he’s kind of got a gunslinger mentality and you know, I tweeted something about it a couple weeks ago that um you know, that that I always felt that I was never afraid to throw an interception. You know, I never let interceptions define who I was. You know, one year, yeah, I don’t know if I told you on here, but one year I won the MVP throwing 22 interceptions, you know, and my son always laughs at me. He’s like, “Dad, come on, man. You won the interception throwing 22 interceptions.” And I’m like, “I won the interception on every throw outside of those 22.” You know, it was what I did uh around that that defined me. And so I always took the approach that I’m going to attack the defense every time out and I’m going to make them worry that I am going to throw it into a tight window or I’m going to throw it over their head every single time because even if they got one that didn’t mean that I was going to stop doing it and that they could, you know, play up tight or they could attack. They had to worry about what was going to happen behind them every time they played me. And so in doing that, I always felt like it opened up the rest of the field and it gave me a bigger field to play with because they were playing on their heels and they were playing backwards as opposed to, you know, some of these guys that that don’t take chances and they don’t turn the ball over. Um, which obviously can be a huge plus, but these defenses start to play downhill and they start to shrink the field and they start to play more aggressively. So even if you’re throwing the short ones, there’s not as much space for the short ones to take and do something with because everybody’s playing downhill. And so there’s different mentalities um that different guys have. And that was my mentality is like I didn’t worry about I didn’t care how many interceptions I threw. I didn’t care what people talked about because what I wanted to do was make plays and win. and I wanted to threaten the defense and that then I always felt like if the defense was worried about me attacking them, that was always going to be a benefit for our guys whether I was handing the football off, throwing it quick, or attacking down the field, it was going to give us an advantage. And so I never played with the constraints of, you know, a mistake a game, an interception a game or whatever was a was a bad thing. That’s just not how I played. um because I had belief that I would make more plays than I made mistakes or at least most games that would be the case, right? You guys watched me play. There was games I threw five picks and lost the game for my team. But I was like that’ll happen one time, right? And and I’ll make up for that with with the other 15 or 16 times I I play. And so that was just my mentality. And so I think sometimes you have to take on that mentality as a quarterback. Um, and again, not be careless and and, you know, continually do dumb stuff, but have the mentality that, man, if I get a window here, I’m ripping it. Like, I I’m taking that chance and I’m putting the pressure on the defense because ultimately, I believe that’s going to help us in the long run as an offense. Kurt, I want you to already, you’ve done this, but put your your QB coaching hat on. You play with a lot of elite receivers. You got a lot of young receivers, right? you mentored Larry Fitzgerald, but then even guys like Steve Preston, early Ducet here in Arizona, Marvin Harrison Jr. is giving himself a really tough time right now and I think I’m sure that he doesn’t think he’s having the kind of year he thought at least through three games. He’s beating himself up over it. You know, he’s emotional with the media and and he wants it, right? He wants it for his team and for whatever reason, whether it’s the offense, whether miscommunication with Kyler Murray or Marv himself, it’s like it’s not jelling right now. How would you get Marvin Harrison Jr. back on track knowing with what you’ve seen him from a collegiate standpoint and then his his elite traits at the NFL level? Yeah, I I think what I would do is I would I would step back and ask myself the question first is what does he do well right now? Like where is he excellent right now? And um in starting there, I would start to develop my offense or at least right now um simply around what he does well. Like the natural thing in this day and age, we can go back to Larry Fitzgerald. And you know, when I was playing with Larry, um there were a number of times where I, you know, go to Todd Haley and I talk with Larry and I’m like, “Hey, Larry, man, if we can move you around and move you inside and do some different things like we’re going to have better chances to target you and attack a defense.” And for the majority of the time I was with Larry, Larry was like, “Nope, please don’t leave me outside. I’m more comfortable out there. There’s too much going on. It’s really fast inside. I just leave me out here. And I’m like, “Well, Larry, they can double you out. They can.” He’s like, “Okay, just leave me out here.” So when I do get the right opportunity, I’ll be successful out here. And we all know that later in his career, Bruce Arens basically forced him to go inside and said, “Hey, you’re not that guy anymore. You got to go inside.” And Larry learned to love playing inside and got comfortable with it and you know had some of his most productive years in those inside positions, but early on he was very uncomfortable with that and he didn’t think that it played to his skill set. So we left him on the outside where he was very very comfortable. And in this day and age, right, the the natural thing to do is you have this playmaker. Move him all over the place. Make him the, you know, pinpoint him as the main guy in in every pass concept so you can get him touches. And that’s the first thing that that I would ask as a coordinator. I would step back and go, all right, are we trying to ask Marvin to do too many things right now? And you know, that could be mentally or it could be physically as well. Are we asking him to do things that don’t play to who he is as a player right now? And I would answer that question first and then I would start to, you know, to figure out, okay, if that’s the case or or what the case is, what does he do well? I’m going to make the majority of routes um that I call for him, whether he’s the number one guy in the design or not, I’m going to make it things that he’s really good at. I’ll use a couple examples is that first I I’ll start with DK Metaf. I thought when he went to Seattle, they did an unbelievable job of using him the way he needed to be used. In other words, he was a big fast wide receiver. Don’t stop him, right? Don’t ask him to run 12 yards and break down and then have to come out of a break real quick because he couldn’t do it. Like, you know, his body type wasn’t to do that. So, if you just plugged him into your offense and that was part of your offense, uh, he wasn’t going to be as successful. Run him on go routes. Run him on inbreaking routes. Run him on shallow routes. Get that big sucker on the move with the ball in his hands and make them tackle him. Like, don’t over complicate it for him because this is what he’s really good at. And still to this day, those are the things he’s best at is not stopping and starting, keeping him on the move, and getting him the ball moving. I I could say the same thing about Steve Restston. Steve Breston was a thousand-y receiver uh in this league, right? And Steve was very much the same type of guy. He wasn’t, you know, a big strong guy. He wasn’t necessarily great at breaking down and and coming fast out of his routes. So, we did the same things with him. We kept him on the move. We knew the things that he did well and we played to the strengths that when he was in a position, um it was like, “This is what you’re going to do. You’re going to be the guy that runs the deep posts. you’re going to be the guys that run shallows for us because you he was great with the ball in his hands, right? He was a great returner for us. Get the ball into his hands and let him make guys miss. But but we didn’t stop him and start him a lot. That wasn’t his game. And so we took a guy that I mean never really had that same sort of success outside of, you know, when he was with us is and made him a thousand yard receiver because we played to his strength. And you know, right now to me, um, you know, Marvin looks very robotic and, you know, very methodical in in how he’s doing things. He doesn’t lose look smooth and comfortable uh in in a lot of the things that I’m seeing him doing and and and so, you know, I’m not around him every day to know exactly what the things are that I look at and go, man, he does that really well and he does that really well. But that’s how I would go about it from this point. if I’ve got to leave him out as my ex receiver like we left Larry and say we’re going to keep you over here and you are going to run five routes in the route tree that we think you excel at and we’re going to keep you over there and I know you know we might not get you targeted 12 times a game but my hope is when we target you it’s five or six times and it’s doing things that you do well so you have success we have success and we’re gaining confidence as a unit knowing, hey, when we go to Marvin, he’s going to make that play. He’s going to feel confident and comfortable making that play. And now, maybe I’m way off. Maybe he’s very comfortable doing everything that they’re asking him to do, moving all over, playing in the slot, playing outside, and and you know, maybe, you know, that’s not a thing. Uh, but it looks to me like a thing. You know, it doesn’t look to me like he’s fully comfortable playing and playing fast and and playing reactionary football. And so that would be the perspective that I take. Even if it limits our ability to target or focus on him, I need him to make the play and be a differencemaker when we decide to go to him. And you know, in the meantime, the great thing is is that we’ve got Marvin, right? But he doesn’t have to be our go-to guy. That go-to guy has become Trey. Yeah. He’s he’s that guy. And he’s got a great feel. And him and Kyler have a great feel for each other. So now I can make I’ve got another guy that I can make kind of the focal point, right? And I’ll go back to our team, right? I had Q. Uh I had Anquin. Anquin was my underneath guy. He was that second level guy. He wasn’t the take the top off a guy guy, but I we could use him to complement uh Larry. So now we put Q and Larry on the same side and say, “Okay, now what do you want to do, guys?” You know, you want to try to double somebody. You want to try to do Okay, we got both guys over there. So, we’ll design our concept to Q and we’ll allow Larry to be the complimentary piece and now it’s pick your poison. And so, that’s how we developed that offense at the time. It wasn’t just Q over here, Larry over here. They’re our go-to guys and we’re going to ask him to do it. No, we built an offense around, you know, when it was Larry’s thing, he was the primary on a concept. When it was Q’s thing, he was the primary, but then the other guy was the complimentary piece. So, you take away the primary, boom, we’re coming right back to the other guy who’s a stud also. And so, it’s starting to build things that way uh around the strengths. So, you’ve got a good playmaker, you’ve got a guy that you know can change the game for you as the focal point, but it might not always be Marvin Harrison right now. It might be one of those other guys or or specifically Trey. Yeah. Create those quality looks. Let’s get back to your expertise, the quarterback position. What is it that Kyler Murray can do to help himself in this version of the Cardinals offense? Like, what could he do starting as soon as tomorrow in prime time against the Seahawks to really help elevate himself in the in the offense? Um, well, I mean, hard question to answer. Um, just because I I I don’t know, you know, everything that he’s seeing and feeling. Um, you know, one thing I brought up a couple years ago and and I think that he can always help himself with this. Um, and you know, and it’s a hard thing to do because I see it happen all over the league is that, you know, these quarterbacks that live in shotgun a lot when they’re in dropback mode. There’s there’s not really a true drop all the time that connects to uh to the routes that you’re running on the back end. And so, you know, when you’re under center, um, you know, a three-step drop, uh, you know, connects to basically a a fiveyard route by a quarterback. five-step drop connects um you know to that kind of 12 to 15 yard range 10 to 15 yard range kind of drop or route and then a sevenstep drop was really anything beyond that 15 yard mark and so it was easy because I got the ball in my hands and as soon as I said hike the ball was in my hands and and and the timing could connect really really well. Now that we’ve moved into the shotgun, you know, we try to, you know, simulate, okay, a three-step drop under center is a one-step drop in the shotgun and five-step drop is a three-step drop and blah blah blah. But it it doesn’t work that way because you have a snap and the snap can go in different directions and you don’t just have the ball in your hands and it’s not it’s it’s not perfectly conducive to that. And so, as a quarterback, you’ve got to develop a mental timing more so than a physical timing. You know, if I’m going to tell you it’s a three-step drop every single time, that’s not right. Because, you know, a three-step drop from the shotgun, well, if it’s 12 yard route, it is maybe a three and a quick hitch. But if it’s a 15 yard route, now it’s a slower three-step drop. And now, if it’s even a little bit deeper than that, and I want you to take a three with kind of a long pause or a long hitch now. And so, it’s different. And a lot of these guys I don’t think have fully developed that mental timing because they never really played under center to figure out what that mental timing is. So they’re trying to figure it out in the shotgun. And I say all of that to say um I think at times Kyler and and he’s also, you know, a smaller guy and and quicker feet that often times he gets he gets to the top of his drought his drop too fast. And so by getting there too fast, what that does for a quarterback is when our feet get set, uh, our mind says we should be throwing the football, right? And so, uh, soon as we get set, it’s like, okay, why am I holding the football? Like, I’m set. I’m ready to throw a throw. Like, you know, and so we talked about at times getting to the checkdowns too quickly is that sometimes I think he’s set too quickly for the for the route. And so the route hasn’t had a chance to get open yet. and he’s back there going, you know, I’m hitching like I I should be throwing the ball, get get the ball out of my hands. And he does a great job, I think, one of the best in the league at finding his checkdowns and finding a positive play uh every time back. But I think that’s one of the things that he could definitely work on is continuing to work the timing and understanding the timing that every drop he takes is going to be different and making sure that he’s meshing the top of his drop with, you know, and I don’t want to say the top of the route because we always want to, you know, win early. We want to be set early so we can throw it as soon as a guy, you know, gets to the top of his drop or his route and gets into the spot. But the point is I want him getting set, you know, right before he should be throwing the ball to his first read. So it times up perfectly uh in terms of my mind and my feet are all connected uh and they connect to the top of the route. And so now I’m not rushing through things and my mind isn’t working faster because I’ve sped it up because my feet um are ahead of the game. And so maybe that’s the first thing that that I would do is um is try to work that stuff a little bit better so he’s more comfortable with the the mesh point of top of route and top of drop. Last question for the Hall of Famer Kurt. You know, we live in an offensive league. Uh the Cardinals have a defensive head coach and Jonathan Ganon, but he’s more than that. He’s a culture builder. And I think there was a lot of hope and optimism for this unit coming into this year offensively because the Cardinals essentially did run it back. These are the by and large the same players as last year. You’re banking on development from guys like Marv and and the next step for some of these complimentary pieces and the Cardinals through through three weeks have gone backwards offensively. Now they’ve got a lot of football left to be played but you’ve been inside a ton of locker rooms. Like how can a underperforming offense weigh on a team especially when in a defense right now the Cardinals defense is top five uh in the NFL right now. just talk through your own experience, the pressures that come with that because right now you go through like the hierarchy. You can’t get rid of the players, right? So that’s why there’s a call for the offensive coordinator to perform better because we see it all the time. Atlanta just I think demoted or fired their receiver coach and Tennessee’s coach has done calm plays. Like there’s a sense of urgency in today’s NFL like you can’t be a bad offensive product. Yeah. I mean, you know, and I think it goes, you know, both sides. I don’t think he can be a bad product on either side. And um you know, but but I think we also know there are definitely teams out there that uh are strong on stronger on one side than the other. Um but I I think where the frustration can come in is um is when you need that unit to perform in a particular moment. um you know, you expect them to perform in that moment, you know, and so like this pass game, defense played a great game. Uh you know, they were set up with the interception and and a chance to kind of finish that game off. Um and it’s those things where it’s like we need the offense to to finish this off for us. Like we’ve done our part and again, we don’t have to be a great offense, but we need you when there’s, you know, opportunities for you to finish a game for us. We need that to happen. And if that doesn’t happen consistently, that’s where it starts to go sideways for me. Um, and again, you don’t have to be great on both sides of the ball, but you know, if we’re good offensively, um, and I need one stop at the end of the game, you know, three or four times throughout a season and you guys need to do that. Like, you got to come up and stop and vice versa. And so that’s where I think it can it can start to get away from you is that if one unit is consistently performing well and the other unit is consistently not living up to those moments and and making the plays to get them wins. That’s where I think, you know, and again, I don’t want to say divisiveness because I, you know, I mean, I’m never really in a lot of locker rooms that had divisiveness, but, you know, that’s where, you know, you step in a locker room and and you know, certain guys on one side are starting to look at the other side going, “Guys, you like you got to make the play. Like, you got to make the catch, you got to make the throw, you got to somehow make that drive and get us that field goal to win the game.” Like, you know, you’ve got to step up at least to a certain level. and uh you know and I mean come on they’re not there yet. I mean obviously you know where they are and how they started the season and and um you know this was just one game but yeah you know the unfortunate part is that it was a very winnable game you know like there was opportunities there to win that football game and uh you know be sitting in great shape right now but you know that to me is is you know what I would worry about at some point. Uh I just don’t think they’re they’re anywhere close to that right now. But uh but that to me is where it can start to get off a little bit is that you know one side is just doing their job and doing it at a high level and the other side just never pulls their end of the bargain. Um it can get frustrating and it can start to lead to uh you know again you know one side you know starting to look and and again relatively point the finger at the other side or get frustrated with the other side um you know and lose some confidence in in what they’re doing. We love the hat choice today, Kurt. The NFC Championship. Uh, yeah, that’s an alltimer there. Also, if you’re remiss, I want to point out and applaud your efforts. And uh Noah, if you would. Here in the desert, innocent wide receivers are starving. Starving for targets, starving for catches, starving for an ability to make an impact. Wide outs are being targeted at an all-time low. Every Sunday and more than likely Thursday night, athletes, talented athletes are running routes in vain. And you can help. For just one play, a call a drive, you can provide a wide receiver in need with the football they deserve. Please, Drew Petting, Kyler Murray, don’t let another wide out go hungry. Feed them before it’s too late. You may say, “This doesn’t impact me. We can still win with a stout run game and defense, but it impacts family members. It impacts that guy at works fantasy league. It impacts Madden ratings. For every running back or blocking tight end that gets a catch, a wide receiver goes to bed hungry. And wide receiver neglect, throw the ball. [Music] Thank you. I’m emotional after watching that. Unbelievable work. That was a surprise. Yeah. Great job by my co-host. I’m so proud to call you a co-host. I’m so proud to welcome you, Brock. It was actually kind of concerning because it was is like glitching and it was just playing me over and over again. And uh people were looking at me like a weirdo at uh as I was filling up my truck. But Circle K, Inner Circle, nothing weird about that. No. Now my love affair with Circle K, it’s dropped down a notch now that I know that B’s going to be at the pump next time I go there. Uh I still can’t get over Bose’s PSA. It’s emotional. I feel like again like I want that to be a good omen ahead of Thursday. I just I don’t know if we can do it alone. I just don’t I think I think the the message needs to get out. Tomorrow is going to be it should be a celebration. Rivalry jerseys, year three of the rebuild, return to prime time Thursday night football. And I’m we’re sitting here and I’m worried about it. Do we have the pick of the end zone from our guy Tyler at Bergang Travel? Oh my god. Inject this. Let’s take a look at this. We do. Unbelievable. Look at that. Uh Arizona State flag type end zone. um all set for the rivalries to be revealed. Even though, you know, Kyler Murray couldn’t care about care less about it. He just wants that dub. But look at this field. I mean, it’s going to be unbelievable out there at State Farm Stadium. You’re right. The vibes, they’re going to be at an all-time high. And the Red Sea is going to be trying to drown out any of the uh this the dumb twelves that are going to be in attendance. But uh yeah, you got to put on a good performance. This is the the lights are going to be a little bit brighter. the the you’re gonna be on a prime time stage tomorrow. Let’s let’s get it done. Let’s put our best product in the season on display. I’m gonna do something that I don’t want to say is not popular, but like I credit where credit’s due like Michael Bidwell. That’s outstanding. That that is outstanding. That is un like think about like the vibes of like the rivalry jerseys almost universally beloved. Um I thought the Cardinals crushed it with the unveil of the rivalry jerseys. I really enjoy uh the state flag in general. They’re embracing that. Like there’s one we got one we got one thing standing in the way of just like peak football right now. And that’s why it’s just that’s kind of was my point to Kurt is just like you can have great vibes all around but like I I will push back just a little bit with Kurt whereas like the we’re in an offensive league and you mentioned it in your PSA fantasy football like people if if Marv was a corner that was taken it would get attention but not like this but because people have Marv on their fantasy team and people are invested from his time at Ohio State and the offensive component matters and it matters to casuals to this team. Not people in this market, but like people who were just NFL fans are like, “What’s going on with the Cardinals offense?” Like I I talk about the story. My brother-in-law texted me last week and he’s like, “What the hell is going on with Marvin Harrison Jr.? Is this a joke? Why is he only getting so many targets? Why can’t they figure it out?” So it I will go a step further and I I think Curt’s point reigns true when you think about that the defense had to finish it off the first two weeks and the offense had a chance this week and they failed yet again. I mean, what he was describing is literally what’s happened to this team three straight weeks. It’s It’s tough, right? It’s you you don’t want to create, you know, clicks or defense for his offense and like we’re holding up our end of the bargain. You got to go out there and make a play. And it seems like the the players are saying the right things. you know, you you want to hear more from your play color on the offensive side of the football instead of like we’re just going to continue to do the same things and the ball is going to go where the ball needs to go what the defense is going to give you. But, you know, also what it’s pointing to, especially with it being prime time or or just the understanding like what’s what factors are involved here is it’s an entertainment league as well and like you can be good at the football stuff. You have to be like in order to just completely ignore the entertainment factor of this, you have to be really effing good. Yeah. And like two and one with subpar, you know, offensive performances that you don’t you can’t project out for sustained consistent winning, it it doesn’t it it’s not that good enough. It’s not in a good enough spot for that. So, like if you’re going to take away and you’re going to crush somebody’s fantasy team, you know, week in and week out because, hey, that’s what the defense is giving us, like you have to play into some part of like this. This is an entertainment business, too. And, you know, it also could help, you know, where you’re ailing offensively and and help, you know, your inability to really get the the wide receivers involved in the game plan. Uh, again, reminder, become a supporter down below. We got almost 600 people watching live. We appreciate everybody. Yep, the real ones here. Hammer that join button. We would appreciate We’re going to call out all of our supporters at the end of the show as well as any super chats that you have. I’m going to turn it back to my co-host here. We’re going to quickly go through the injury report and then we’re going to get on to game predictions. Bo, does it look like much of the same like last weekend or is there some hope with Paris Johnson Jr.? Yeah, maybe a little bit more encouraging, but it’s like also Paris practiced in a limited capacity all week last week. like there were no red flags that Paris Johnson Jr. was going to miss last week and then you know you hear you know leading up to the game he’s going to be inactive. You’re like what the heck? Uh we do have do we have the footage of Paris out here? He’s he’s working with Isaiah Adams and they’re just pushing a sled around. This is encouraging to me right Johnny made nothing on his knee. He’s pushing a sled around looking like normal Paris. He’s even doing a little extra. What’s going on Isaiah? You just you take a little rep. He’s Isaiah bust. But look, Paris Johnson Jr., I I I’m pretty encouraged that with his injury designation, as you’ll see here as we got the injury report that’s uh going to be popped up here, he’s questionable officially. You’re looking at the offensive line and you’re like, “Wait, you got your your main swing tackle questionable. You got your starting left tackle questionable. You got your Will Hernandez questionable yet again. You’ve got Evan Brown questionable.” like it’s it’s a little concerning, but I think at the end of the day, you’re going to be at full strength at least just by personnel on your offensive line. Will Johnson’s doubtful. He didn’t practice again today. I I don’t think he’s going to play. He’ll be back after this. Couldn’t get through uh protocol. So, he’s he’s just ruled out. Um but yeah, there aren’t a whole lot like relative to how long this uh this injury report is. It’s I’m not too concerned about it. I love how like Kus just doesn’t practice. That’s great. That’s great. We did talk to Kas today and you saw this one, Johnny, and and Kas understands like after dropping one, having one, letting it slip through your fingers at Santa Clara against the NerS, he understands that this division’s a gauntlet. He said every every game on your division slate is like a heavyweight bout and they they got to be able to stay in this fight and you can’t going down 02 in the first four weeks is not bode well for that. Well, and remember Seahawks are facing the same thing. They they frauded it up against the Niners week one. They had that game and blew it. That’s why you just despise the 49ers. Give Kyle Shannon and Robert Saw the credit. They’re doing it with smoke and mirrors. We’re coming right back after this. We’re going to break down our players of the game. We’re going to go on the record with our official predictions. As uh disappointing as they could be, it’s PHNX, but we’re going to stay positive here on our read because we love our sponsors, especially our friends at All Pro Shades Concepts. I will get things started here. We got 550 watching live. Hit that like button. Key players of the game, Trey McBride. Seattle’s defense is outstanding. They are susceptible to opposing tight ends as we saw. They got bodied week one by scrub dirt 49er tight end for the game-winning touchdown. And then they did give up some yards to New Orleans tight end and Pittsburgh. So, uh, Cardinals best offensive player happens to be a tight end, Trey McBride. Feed him. Io him. If you’re Drew Petting, I I again, I’m so exhausted talking about this the sad reality of this receiving core. Like, just go back to number 85. Yeah. And I I thought Trey should have had more targets last week on the defensive side. Sweaty Jay two straight weeks with a sack. Has been outstanding on pace for double digit sacks for the first time since by the way he was with Jonathan Ganon in Philadelphia. And Sam Darnold Sam Darnold will run into some sacks. Sam Darnold will throw interceptions. He is known to see ghosts. We were at this building for the playoff game last year when the LA Rams because of wildfires couldn’t host their playoff game. So they hosted at State Farm Stadium the Vikings last year. Bo Damon, myself and my dear sweet nine-year-old son. We watched Sam Darnold wet the bed because the LA Rams brought pressure. So, they’re gonna have to do that again with Sweaty Jay and then X Factor. No one did my man dirty here. Amari D. Marcato is is a good NFL player. He will he will rally from this. Jesus, Noah. And I think I think he will have an impact in this game. This is somebody that looks good in limited time running the football. Trey Benson cannot carry the football 30 times. De Marcado needs touches. And I think again as a runner I think he does well in space. I’m anxious to see are they gonna use Bam Nine or Michael Carter. But I’ I’ve been courted. De Marcado is a good player. I’m not going to let that one drop ruin his reputation as an undrafted gem of a fine bow. Just just downright nasty dirty work what our producer did to Amari Dermac. Dirty boy. Noah. It was it was such a big play in that game. Yeah. We need uh we need Amari to get back on track. Um, I like it. I do like it. I think Trey, like you said, playing the hits, that’s what I did with my key players of the game. I went for a second consecutive week with the franchise quarterback. You’re like, Bo, you’re chalk. You’re the least creative person I’ve ever met. You’re just saying the franch’s going to have a good game. But look, Kyler Murray did not have his best performances against Seattle last year, and it cost the Arizona Cardinals. Actually, they turned Kyler Murray over more than any other team did last season. I know at least within the division, Kyler Murray, those two back-to-back picks in in the home game against Seattle and then a crucial pick six on fourth down up in the Pacific Northwest. Kyler Murray needs to take care of the football and he needs to do something to elevate this offense if it’s not getting to the ball of the wide receivers. He’s got to make some plays. Like you don’t want the infrastructure to be like, Kyler Murray, go play hero ball, but you need him to do something to kind of jumpstart some things. I’m looking for K1 to have a a prime time performance tomorrow night. As far as the defense goes, you talked about getting pressure on Sam Darnold. What happens when Sam Darnold gets pressure? He sees ghost. He makes mistakes. He turns the ball over. He’s only been sacked three times. But I like what I’ve seen from Max Melton in the defensive secondary. He was posted on his Instagram. He’s got a couple game balls under his belt, not lighting up the box court. Still looking for that first career interception. Could it come tomorrow night? I like Max Melton as as far as their best cover corner on this defense. And then you mentioned Trey McBride as your offensive player of the game. I’m going with an X-factor tight end, Elijah Higgins. Love what I’ve seen from Higgy Bear. Could they be susceptible to tight end two making some plays? I like 84 to be an X-factor tomorrow night if uh if this offense can get going. I think Higgins has look good. Again, I like I’m not going to sit here with Bo and be like, “Hey, let’s let’s get Greg Dorch involved.” I think Greg Dorsch is a good player. Like we’re just I’m thinking we’re being realistic. We’re using the tools that are available to us backs and tight ends. So we’re not going to be naive until further notice and think, well, this is, you know, I see people on Twitter and God love him, Bo, they’re like, “This has got to be a game where Kyle Murray’s throws for 350.” And it’s just like, not in this offense with this coordinator. You got to show me. I I think and also how Seattle plays defense. They’re not They don’t want you to beat them deep. One thing I I think will be interesting, maybe a little wrinkle with the Z Jones being out. You’re down a receiver. You could have an active Xavier Weaver. Actually, anticipate that. Let’s go. You know, could could he be a guy that gets some packages to where you just run him deep and just see if that shot that shot downfield’s there. Uh Zay, that would be welcome. I mean, like, why not? Zay Jones, I’m sorry. I know you have a concussion. That’s unfortunate. You dropped a pass last week. Get somebody else in there. Let’s Let’s try something different. We’re trying something different. Our producer, Noah, I can’t wait to see this graphic. Let’s go, Noah. Here we go. Uh here are my key players for this upcoming game. Uh for the offense, I picked not available because the offense in real life has been not available. And my pick will stay this way until the offense wants to uh make some plays and uh win us. I respect that. Yeah, it’s not a wrong You’re not wrong in that approach. Thank You’re actually as right as anybody’s ever been on this show. When it comes to the defensive side, uh I picked everyone because I think we’re going to need everyone to perform well like we did last week. I mean, the defense literally stalled out San Francisco so many times. They got to do the same thing against Seattle because if our offense is going to continue to play the way it’s played, you’re going to need that. And of course, my X factor is uh Mr. Blake Gillikin here because I have a feeling that he’s going to get used quite a bit and we’re going to need that that big leg to uh get us some good uh field position. I was into everything until that point. Now I’m Now I’m depressed again. Now I don’t Now I don’t feel good about this game. Yeah. Now what do you think about Chad Ryland? You think Do you think there’s any concern with Chad after having that field goal missed to begin the game last week? Or is it just a bomb? Yeah. I mean, I I still like Chad’s big leg. I I think he’s he’s he’s a guy that they they have a lot of confidence in from deep and he’s gota he’s got to make those. But, you know, 57 yards, I’m not going to crush a guy if he misses, you know, two more. Yeah, I’m going to be I’m going to be mad at him like, hey, get somebody that’s going to convert on those because, you know, scoring chances are just too far uh in between for this offense. But, no, I I I think Chad’s going to be fine. He’s not he’s not low on confidence. Uh saw him strutting around. A lot of swag for a kicker that guy has. So I like I don’t I don’t have an issue with with Chad Ryan at this point. What is he six for eight on the on the season so far? He had the one block and then he missed the 57 yard. Uh let’s take a look here real quick before we go to OT. Here’s Jonathan Ganon on uh Trey Benson taking over for James Connor. Yeah, I think it’s just the the instincts of, you know, if you’re still behind the line of scrimmage and it’s getting late in the down, as I was called, there’s a clock in your head, you got to stick your foot in the ground and get dirty yards and and not, you know, look to maybe hit a home run. You know, defense is closing in on you. So, just I I think he’s really done a better job this year um of being decisive and putting the ball where it needs to be put. And if there’s a guy standing in the hole, so be it, you know. So, um, like I said, I’m looking forward to him running the rock tomorrow. And let’s follow up with Trey Benson and how close he thinks the run game is to getting back on track. It’s right there. Uh, it’s all I can really say. Like on some of the runs, it’ll be like just one person, you know, that, you know, it was unfortunate, but, you know, it’s we we one block away every single time most likely. Okay. I’ve been of the mindset since I saw him last year. I think he he will be better when it’s his backfield. I don’t think he’s a complimentary back. I don’t think he’s a change of pace back. I think that’s why we saw Michael Carter be more effective with James Connor or even like a D Marcato. Like I you can’t come in in the NFL and demand like this is my backfield to James Connor. But I do think that like he can average four plus yards per carry in this offense when when they run the ball like we know they can. Now that it’s a bigger conversation to say what’s wrong with the offensive line, Clayton Adams is gone. Why can’t you run block anymore? like that James Connor was not getting yards behind this this offensive line. I I do think Trey is is built to be able to be a starting caliber running back. Like do I like Cam Scatteraboo more? Yes, I made that known. But he this guy was a top 70 pick. He can play. Uh yeah, I like I like Trey Benson’s size skill set. I think it it’s it’s what you look for in in a running back prospect. And yeah, the opportunities there. I do want to point one thing out before we go overtime and we can’t play the video back, but his blocker is right next to Will Johnson. If you looked over his left shoulder on the white board, there’s a 47 that’s on the whiteboard. 47th overall pick. If you think Will Johnson once he gets back, I mean, what’s not to like about that guy? Well, he’ll be he’ll play against Tennessee. I mean, they they didn’t put him on IR to miss four games, and he hasn’t has he been practicing or has he been limited? Will Johnson hasn’t been practicing. Okay. So, I mean, it’s going to have 10 days off. He’s gonna have Friday through the following, you know, Saturday. Um, and you may not even need him against Hell, you may not need him against Tennessee. I don’t know. Got a win would do wonders for this team. Uh, we’re giving our official predictions now as we go into overtime. Welcome to overtime. I don’t like that. We’ve got 14 super chats here on a football preview show. Um, big thanks to everybody. Again, hammer that like button. Become a supporter. Uh, we love everybody here in the chat. For those of you who may not know who we are, I’m Bo. That’s Johnny. No, I’m Johnny. That’s Bo. We do a daily Arizona Cardinal podcast. Uh, and it’s number one in the world. Uh, let’s break it down. Here are game predictions. I’m going to get us started. I’m going to be a negative boy. Uh, I think the Cardinals What? That’s not my prediction. Is that my prediction? No, I don’t think so. I don’t think those were our predictions. Were the scores weren’t updated, right? I don’t think so. All right. Very optimistic predictions. Spoiler alert, less optimistic predictions coming uh from your host of this show. It’s always good. Yes, I think there are paths to victory for the Arizona Cardinals. like the more we get closer to this game, it’s not as like a a herculean effort to get it done. You need to play clean offensive football. You need to be able to generate offense and points. Um I I really like where the defense is and I thought they hung tough defensively against Seattle last year. Like Gino Smith was was the guy that was the quarterback that that beat him twice last year. Sam Darnold, you know, is is he a big upgrade? I think he’s an incremental upgrade at best. You look at his numbers, they’re pretty pedestrian. You know, four touchdown passes, the two interceptions. Like, this is a guy that they had a good game plan for last year when he was playing for the Vikings and they had three pretty solid quarters against them and then him and Justin Jefferson were able to take uh take advantage of a beaten down defense that was on the field too much in the second half. Can you finish the job against Sam Darnold? Uh, and can your offense help complement, you know, and and finish it for you? Let’s jump into some of these super chats. Uh, Dana $5 ball nowhere timing off in timing based offense. Route doesn’t match the drop back. Bad run blocking in the first play calling off in a f in a run first play calling offense. So basically everything’s broken. Feel like that. That’s and that Yeah. And that that’s similar to the comments when I said what can Kyler Murray do to Right. Yeah. And that’s that’s a what Kurt Warner went into. I mean, as far as that that timing, you know, whether you’re coming you’re shooting out from under center or you’re you’re in the shotgun, you know, something’s just a little bit off and it’s causing, you know, potential uh just misfires here with the passing attack. I also think Kurt was like pretty emphatic. He’s like, what are they they’re not doing anything particularly well right now. And I think that’s been an argument you and I have made. Like, what does this offense do well? Like Trey’s a good a really good player, a great player. That’s about it. Josh, $ five dollars for Kurt or Bo and JV. Why does it feel like this team plays to not lose instead of to play to win? Three weeks in and that’s all I see. I think it’s I think Ganon is aggressive. I loved going for it on fourth down. There have been instances where they’ve gone for it and I’ve agreed with it. So like in-game scenarios, I commend JG. You are right, Josh. They they have been very conservative to end games. I think part of that is they would tell you like we believe in our offense, but you also have to like you have to feel the flow of a game. If the offense for three straight fourth quarters looks like ass and you’re like, “Hey, can you guys just go out there and get us a first down? We’re going to be super conservative on first and second down.” Like we all knew they weren’t going to pick up that third nine. Like even though Z Jones dropped it and they would tell you, “Well, no, no, no. It’s on the player to execute.” Like no one has confidence right now. And I use the example from Monday Night Football. Dan Campbell fourth and two went for it. Almanra, it’s just like they some teams feel good about their ability to to close games out. The Cardinals because they have no flipping juice in the second half. It’s like impossible. You want to get into the predictions and put the rest of super chats on hold. Okay. Yeah, let’s get into our predictions here. Um, clean sweep. No, once again, not making any friends in the chat. We’ll start with yours. Your lopsided. Are you in prison, Noah? Yeah. No, I’m I’m looking at Drew Petting on the other side. Got it. Got it. Uh I am I’m out on Drew Ping until further notice and I see I mean if we’re seeing think about this, what do they tell you about if you’re with a married couple and they fight in front of you? What does that mean when we’re not around? What is it what does their home like look home life look like when we’re not around? Right? They use that example. Same thing with kids, trying to parent kids. If I see Michael Wilson and he’s frustrated publicly and I see Marvin and he’s frustrated publicly and Ganon’s having to fend Pine and things are tight and and irritable. What is it like in that building right now? I’m going to guess not great. And as I think the defense is going to play well again, but they can only do so much. And Seattle, as much as I don’t love their personnel, it’s better than M. Jones and Ricky Persol and an old Christian McAffrey. The Cardinals have always had a tough time stopping Kenneth Walker. I just I what is a I need a reason to believe and I’m not sitting here being a hater. You have lost five straight games to teams with winning records. You’re two and nine in your last 11 games. You can’t score points and this is the number one defense in the NFL. Like they listen, I hope they use the US against the world, but you the these are self-inflicted problems. You don’t have a bunch of injuries like other teams. You’re you’re playing at home. You’ve earned a Thursday night game over the course of this rebuild and now like I I just they’re going to squander it because they they opted for the most milk toast vanilla approach offensively and it’s it’s biting them in the ass right now. Yeah. The the response is going to be so key after such a deflating loss on Sunday. You know, not only just overall from the team standpoint, but also those wide receivers that made key drops. We poke fun at the Amari Dearo thing like Marv. Uh, you got to come up with the plays that are there to be made. If you don’t, if you give this like the Seattle and the Niners and the Rams, everybody in your division, you give them a second, third opportunities, you’re going to get beat. You’re going to get beat handily. So, that that’s, you know, we’re just we’re following the trends a little bit too much. We’re we’re not t taking down the opium and we’re not drinking the Kool-Aid here three weeks in just because we haven’t seen any signs to believe that they have to show and give us signs of that tomorrow night. That’s why we Somebody’s saying in the chat we’re going to be eating crow. I hope so. Yes, absolutely. Cardinal show every day. I want to be wrong on this and I it’s just this is how I see it going down where it’s going to be a lowscoring affair and it’s going to be a bit ugly. It’s not going to be great football. It’s on a short week. You very rarely see clean football played in these Thursday night matchups. So, that’s why I’ve got mine. I’ve got the Seahawks edging out the Cardinals 20 to7. We joked for our audio listeners, Noah’s got the Seahawks 41 to 17. Uh we’re we’re we’re looking for a new producer. Um and then Johnny, yours is uh if you want to go through it real quick. Yeah, I had 20 2410. I mean, like I the advantage for a home team on Thursday Night Football is immense. like mo the that’s that’s a benefit to you. Like the the NFL gave the Cardinals this game as a benefit, okay? You get to play a Seahawk team on Thursday Night Football in your building and you’re going to be a rivalry team. I I’m going to be so depressed. We’re gonna have full coverage tomorrow. We’re going to do prehalftime post and a watch along. Yeah. Whole game. You get us. Yep. For better or worse. Uh I Jonathan Ganon has risen to the occasion on on games with with spotlights and they haven’t won all of them but you just they don’t embarrass themselves. if if they get embarrassed tomorrow there the chance well the Drew Petting chance are going to magnify and JG will hear the first kind of significant criticism from this fan base universally because it just you can lose on the 12:00 slate you can lose at the 3M or the 10:00 slate and the 1 p.m. late. This fan base has been desperate for prime time games. They want notoriety. They want to celebrate the players. You’ve already had strike one and strike two. You’ve alienated Marvin Harrison Jr. and you’ve broken him as a franchise. And now if you get beat badly on prime time, people are going to be out on you, man. Like it just I’m I’m not saying I will be, but just like I’ve watched this team my entire adult life. Like this is how it goes. You lose people and it’s really hard to get them back. And I know they’d only be two and two, but man, it’s you. You got to find a way to get this dub. None of us believe in you. Use that. Motivate yourselves. Be a excuse me, competent NFL team. Excuse me. Good lord. Sorry. Ear muffs. That’s all you got to do. Let’s get back into these super chats before Johnny cusses us out again. Here we go. Uh goodness. Hey, we’re in overtime. That’s fine. Yeah, we are in overtime. Alex, I wish Kurt wasn’t so media busy and he could come be our QB coach. I think he’s a family man and he’s enjoying I’m sure he’s enjoying quality of life and and again the rigors of a coach is is a lot and so I I would tell you he is right where he he wants to be. So right here with us. Yep. Let’s keep it going. Is this Scott? Scott jumping in 499. Thank you Scott. I feel bad for Michael Wilson. can’t uh be sad on camera or what can’t be said on camera is Drew is going to cost him millions with the lack of targets. He’s a number one for some teams. I I don’t know if he’s number He thinks he’s number one and he should think that way. He sat on set with us and said, “I’m disappointed I didn’t have a thousand yards this year. It’s my that’s my biggest defense for Marv Scott.” Like none of these receivers are getting anything. Yeah. They’re and and you can have a mutiny on your hands. You could all these receivers like I don’t want to play for this this this scheme, this coordinator. I don’t want I don’t want to be here. I again I think if this continues I think we’re Marvin Harrison Jr. trade requests away this offseason. I think that’s Michael Wilson is way better than three catches for 21 yards and a touchdown. Yep. Uh is he a thousand yard receiver? You know he’s a productive winning player in this league and you got to be able to at least elevate him to to prove that. Jonathan jumping in 499 joined the show late today. Do you guys think we will try something different on offense tomorrow? Well, I’ll let you answer that. I don’t think that there’s was enough runway to to put in new offensive philosophies or do anything that’s going to be able to kickstart and and really divert from the norm right now on on a Thursday night. Now, they get a mini buy. Could they start to try to uh evaluate things and critically look at that like after this game? Yes. But as far as tomorrow, I think that that it becomes too tough. Uh that’s why it’s very difficult when JG comes out and says, “I’ll never have a problem with the play calling.” And they really like this offense. It’s like you’re just you’re leaving yourself susceptible as it continues to to struggle. Ila Dre99. I just fell off I just fell off my treadmill laughing so hard. Good one, Bo. We We might have to play that one more time before the show’s over. We’ll definitely do that. How about our guy Charlie Sinclair? Oh, happy Charlie Sinclair. Jim Harbaugh balls working out in LA and your Chargers are on a roll. Does JG belong on the hot seat if this offense continues struggle and doesn’t fire Petting? Fair question. Um, I I think things get uncomfortable. I mean, and it becomes a big topic of of contention and then also like who do you pivot to as far as your next offensive coordinator? that becomes a big big decision as well. I don’t even like I new quarterbacks, new new coordinators. I I can’t believe it’s September 24th. Can’t believe we’re we’re talking about this. Uh Charlie back to back. I wanted MHJ bad. Thank God for Monti saving the Chargers late draft. Joe Alt and Lambo Lad. Massive building blocks. Must be nice. Uh I also think I mean you got an elite head coach. I Jim Harbaugh is your big get. Not I like Alt and and Lad Mani. Fine. It’s Jim Harbaugh. Jim Harbaugh’s a nice consolation price. I you know Marvin would work with Jim Harbaugh. Yeah. And look at Paris Johnson Jr. and Jo. They’re up there in most uh you know blocking statistics as far as uh you know you know pass block winning. I I like uh it would have been nice to maybe uh put him at the right tackle spot. Chargers uh having him step up in the absence of of their starting left tackle. Like you get you got to take Marvin Harrison Jr. probably 10 out of 10 times in that spot. It just it worked out. Yeah. I’ll never right now. I’m never going to come be Mr. Hey Austin Ford, you you screwed up here. No, we all wanted Marreezy, baby. $5. I have no realistic reason to hope tomorrow, but I’m going to hope anyway. Air it out. Spam pass plays. I mean like that’d be great. Hey Yeah, I’ I’ve felt that way, Reezy Baby, for like a year. Well, we’ll see. Um, yeah, Libertarian Sasquatch 199. I have MHJ on my team. I sadly have to bench him. You and the rest of America, Libertarian Sasquatch. There’s just He’s projected for 11 points. And again, that’s fine for a number three, number two wide out on a lot of teams. this this guy who’s supposed to be Julio Jones, Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Evans, and it’s just and it’s not happening right now. Good time. Charlie’s back. Charlie Sinclair 499. Uh yeah, Quinton Johnson, MHJ worked out in the offseason together. Maybe Q absorbed his powers. Give him back, damn it. When like when I remember watching him in the pre-draft, uh Charlie, like he was working out with Quinton Johnson back then and you would watch them run routes and you would it was like they weren’t playing the same sport. Like MHJ looks so polished. Coaching. Coaching matters. Can’t deny it. Can’t deny it. We got wide receivers look like they’re going to cry and then it’s just then you’re around Jim Harbaugh and you’re like I’m playing the best football of my life. Big Red Six, $10 going to the game tomorrow in my James Conor rivalry jersey. That’s awesome for my birthday. And hoping that the team proves you all wrong. I hope that too. Was at the Washington game last year. So it can’t be any worse than that. It can always get worse. I’ve been doing this show for a long time. Mexico City, Seattle 56 nothing. They’re the defense is too well coached. They have too much pride. Um they’re going to keep the game close. I have zero zero point zero confidence in this offense right now. Zero. Zero. Real concerned, Big Red Six, about your your track record. But look, we you got to start somewhere. You got to change the narrative. Uh, and hopefully it starts tomorrow for you tomorrow night. 520 kick. Cardiac cards 199. JG on the hot seat. If we lose Thursday, no, I don’t think so. John and the Ganon will be the coach in 2026. Yeah, he should. I mean, will Drew Petty be on this team by Thanksgiving, by Christmas, in January? Those are the questions we’re gonna ask. Yeah, it’s crazy how this is the worst way to put poisonous supporting players, a guy as polarizing as Drew Petting, it it puts you in in a tough spot talking about Jonathan Ganon. It’s like that’s the point. That’s the theme of this week. Yeah. Think about if and like we have we’ve had many conversations with Jonathan Ganon on and off air and he is a very authentic person. He is not putting on a charade and he admits when he’s wrong and he’s just he’s a very sincere guy and he is going to bat for somebody he believes in. So you can’t like he has immense belief in his in his offensive coordinator. Now do I think he could have phrased a couple appearances on Monday differently? I mean, he doesn’t care what I think, but if if you could redo it, I don’t think you can be as adamant about your belief in Drew and the play calling when it’s looked like this because especially when the media and Teao Mackey and Bo, they’re throwing out statistics and it’s just like these are not defendable statistics outside you just just use coach speak. We’re working on it. We’re getting better. We’re close, guys. Stick with us. Like just do that. Just say that. Hopefully tomorrow we need to play better. We need to coach better, right? Like just do that to go so hard with Drew. Bo is correct. You’re guilty by association and then people are going to say you’re the problem, right? Ganon’s not. He’s a damn good coach and he’s being held back by his OC. I mean, everybody’s got people in their life that, you know, unfortunately sometimes I don’t want to use the term drag them down, but like I don’t know. This is this is a very difficult situation for him to have to to manage. Trevor 499 may not win the division. That could change hopefully. Old man Stafford balling out again. Niners finding a way and seagulls can plug and play quarterbacks. I mean, it’s just an elite division. You can change that narrative a little bit tomorrow with holding your own weight and you know getting a win at home against the division. you have to like if you’re looking at we said you couldn’t get swept by the Seahawks, you lose tomorrow, you’re in very real danger of that because you got to go up to the Pacific Northwest, an undesirable um you know environment, hostile uh crowd and obviously you got to deal with the elements. This is your best opportunity to beat the Seahawks and you have to do it. I I know what people are saying. I know what our predictions are as far as the Cardinals and what the reality is come they come away with a loss tomorrow and are at two and two and where they stand at 0 and2 in the division. It’s a tough one. So yeah, like the the way people are looking as a division like you got three teams trending up and you got one trending down. Check out our power rankings. We we break it down for you. Check them out here on PHX Sports. Uh keeping it going. How about Yeah. Uh Colin, how about hire Bruce Arens as your offensive coordinator? Is Bruce available? He is not. He’s long retired. We’ve talked to him at Super Bowl media week. He is enjoying retire. He got his Super Bowl and he is hanging with his fam. Uh but yeah, I mean this is where like peak Bruce Arens is just I brought it up earlier this week. It’s like that 2015 team in his third year, you’re just you’re just doing whatever you wanted. you just flipping own the league and it’s just like that you roll with Kyler Murray for three years after you get here if you’re JG. You can’t be going backwards offensively. Like if you had drafted a rookie quarterback and you’re like guys be patient. We’re built we’re still building. We got JJ McCarthy. We got Michael P. We’re doing we got to get some some some reps. Some Kyler Mzen you’re seven. You can’t look like this offensively. Uh Dana R two dollars 23 of 35 within six yards of the line of scrimmage by my count. I mean it’s it’s a horrendous watch. I didn’t like I believe Dana. I don’t even need to see those stats to to realize that’s what’s happening. They’re the worst offensive watch in the NFL right now when it comes to throwing the football. Yeah. I mean, yeah. I’m just saying Pittsburgh’s bad, too, but like Yeah. It doesn’t make better. Doesn’t make it better. We got a new uh got a new member. We got three. Yeah. Big Red Six, happy birthday once again to our guy Big Red Six. Have a great bday in timeout at the stadium. Replies uniform. And then uh who else? We got our guy or gal West Bezy uh 145. Appreciate West Bezy. And then Stephen Mitchell, friend of the program, uh came in earlier today. So we had a couple under uh the radar additions uh not to the show, but they came in earlier. So, we want to make sure that they get the love. Again, I know we plugged it a couple different times. We got 542 people watching live. Become a supporter down below. Hit that join button. Again, five bucks a month goes a long way to helping uh us uh get to where we want to be as a company. Uh especially with uh the slew of guests that uh we’re very fortunate to bring on like Kurt Warner, like Mina Kimes, like Baldi, like Mike Gerafolo. So, um yeah, the everybody asks, do you have a Patreon? Do you have someplace where we can support the show? Right now, click and join for five bucks uh goes a long way. So, we we appreciate everybody. Welcome new members. Absolutely. Deborah, man. Oh, man. Tomorrow is going to be one of the most I I I would say like important days of the history of this show. It feels like you and I have been doing this show for over four years now, and we’ve had a we’ve had some big games. This feels like the biggest game to date that you and I have done together. It’s a pivotal moment in the Jonathan Ganon era. It really is. It’s uh you know, you you got to be able to show some some resiliency. You’ve got to be able to show some adaptability uh and prove that the decisions that you’ve made and the and the things that you’re going to kind of emphasize and hang on to were the right decisions and that you have an ability to to come off of a tough loss and win a big division game at home in prime time. And um you know, we’re not going to be able the team can’t hide from it. We’re not going to hide from it. We’re not going to just, you know, pop on the pregame, go away for, you know, 30 minutes, and then come back at halftime and then go away for 30 minutes. You get to see our reaction to this intense game all the way through. It starts tomorrow. What What time? So 4:50 pregame show, 520 kickoff. Watch along the entire way along. Watch along starts at like 5:25. Yeah. Yeah. We’re gonna we’re gonna be going and you’re gonna get to watch Johnny Venerable for the first time through 60 minutes of football. Uh it’s it’s let me let me spoiler alert. It’s emotional. It’s intense. It’s everything you probably would envision watching. Can I swear to I I let an Fbomb swear here in OT. Am I allowed to swear tomorrow? Does anybody know? I think so. Yes, you can. Okay. Yeah. I think you’re just not on with I don’t think you’re going to be on with our our TV affiliates where they’re like that’s you can’t can’t curse. Yeah. I’m sorry, Samsung, about my fbomb. Please forgive me. No, this is this was an OT where anything goes. I mean anything. Uh you you’ve been suspended. Don’t joke like that. Hit that like button. Subscribe to PHX Sport. Just got word from the FCC. You’re gone. Don’t stop. Stop. You’ve had enough. We got enough problems here with this offense. Uh drop your predictions in the comments below. Again, I need them. Please, please, please hit the subscribe button for your boys of PHNX Cardinals. If you like what you see, smash that like button. Uh Kurt Warren will be back two weeks. Baldi back next week. I would love a dub tomorrow. The pregame show will be nuts. It will be wild. Bo and I will get nuts in studio and then of course we got our Friday show to cap off the week. Can the Arizona Cardinals get their mother flipping act together, Bo? Wow. Do we want to play it on our way out? Do we want to play our PSA one last time and then we’re uh we’ll talk to you tomorrow at 4:50 I believe with the pregame show. For just one play a call a drive, you can provide a wide receiver in need with the football they deserve. Please, Drew Petting, Kyler Murray, don’t let another wide out go hungry. Feed them before it’s too late. You may say, “This doesn’t impact me.” We can still win with a stout run game and defense, but it impacts family members. It impacts that guy at works fantasy league. It impacts Madden ratings. For every running back or blocking tight end that gets a catch, a wide receiver goes to bed hungry. And wide receiver neglect, throw the ball [Music] [Applause] like the mayor.

  1. The whole argument about he takes what the defense gives him is complete crap. If you are last in anything it’s a problem. I am pretty sure Arizona defense was designed to try and stop the one healthy wr the 49ers had and some how a back up qb still got the ball to him. It’s either terrible play calling and design or a qb playing scared. Murray is more worried about qb rating than he is making big plays and getting wins. Young Murray has turned into old Rodgers where he won’t throw anything that’s not 100% open. If you on;y take the 100% throw then you are doing exactly what the defense wants you to do, because they know 20 yard drives are way less successful than 8-10 play drives.

  2. Kurt needs to be on the staff in some fashion. Murray knows how to run like no else, he needs coached on how to be a gunslinger like Kurt. He has the arm and he has the accuracy. If he can develop this “Kurt gunslinger” mentality in the game we can grow this offense. Kurt is the man.

  3. What iv gathered from this is Marv is not the WR we hoped to get meaning good at all 3 levels can be played anywhere and do it all that’s who y’all hyped this kid up to be n I think that’s what’s killing him the most but if we simplify the game for him we would be so much better and and K1 could start to trust him more and not always go through his progressions so fast cause I honestly see that too but it’s cause he’s seen time n time again these WRs not getting open so it works both ways but yea I think we just needa simplify the game for Marv we put to much on his plate that’s why I said get another WRs he can’t do it all
