Yao Ming x Cuttino Mobley | Rockets Reunited

[Music] They asked me actually to one or two words to describe the casino mobile first I met. Wait, wait, wait, wait. They asked you to describe me in two words. I met you at a garage. Yeah. You know that that’s the first day I arrived in Houston and then we meet together at garage. Had I had a tan linen jacko? Yes. Tight pants. Very tight pants and very fancy car. If a Mercedes if I remember it’s a Maybach. Okay. Okay. It’s a Maybach. Okay. A very loud music. That’s how you eat. Yeah. I just didn’t know. Well, I I didn’t know better. Okay. This is not just a first impression of you. It also first impression how NBA player looks like. From my from my understanding and those loud music and also give me an impression of very confidence of person who you are to show people who you are. Yeah. From our culture is like we are not that outgoing. Right. We’re not that open until we know each other well enough at least for a couple like uh months or something. Right. Right. Right. I know this very different cultures but for me is it’s you are very confident person. I tell people this all the time. When I first met you, it wasn’t that, okay, he’s taller or he’s this, that, whatever. What I saw was patience and stoic. That’s what I saw, right? And listen, that’s just what I saw. I don’t know. Nervous, scared, I don’t I don’t know, right? Just like you saw me. It’s like, oh, confident in this. It’s like we’re still those little boys trying to prove ourselves no matter what, right? Even if it’s my third year, that’s how I felt. I explain a lot. I have a question for you. You grew up in Philadelphia, right? Yeah. So, when you drive by Rocket and you know you’re going to there, what what do you feel about Houston? When I when I played for Houston, when the feel about this city, I loved it. Like when I first got to Houston, growing up from Philadelphia, right? I’m a city kid, right? I’m a north, right? I’m a Yankee basically. You know what I mean? Yeah. When I went down there and I was young, a lot of my friends mentally were young as well. So, you’re going down to Texas and like there’s no cars. They’re like just ride on horses. It was like that. You know what I’m saying? So, I had that mentality at first. Not only that, what was crazy was when I first got down there, people stared and waved a lot and I wasn’t used to that was more it was more of a southern thing. So, in the beginning, I’m like, “Yo, what are they looking at?” But then I found out like people were really nice. I started to love the genuiness of the city, the people of Houston. And that was one of the my young adult phases where I grew up, and it was safe for me. Safe. Yeah. Oh, yeah. So, this is, see this game right here? My wrist is taped in this one. My wrist is taped in this one. He’s See how he’s scratched up? So, he probably wanted to kill someone. And I was and I was holding him back because I didn’t feel like battling with just me and Steve. I think I hugged him the most. It’s just natural to do, right? Even if he didn’t care, I I just did it. I just jumping on him. We were in Atlanta. I think we were playing like Theo Rattler and them and we were down. We lost. No, we came back and won. We were down like 20. No, no. I think we’re I’m telling you, we came back and won. We walked them down, came back and won. You dunked it so hard on I was so excited. I wanted to I wanted to do that. I’m telling you, you can look it up. We were down 20 to 25 points. Fourth quarter comeback. Walked them down. He’s dunking on. I’m telling you, I was just so excited. I’m enthusiastic. I’m like, I’m I’m like very dramatic now. But like especially back then, right? I was like a crazy person. Especially I’m on the court, right? It’s like different personalities you have. Like I have like 15 of them, right? Yao would say like he’ll like if I’m sitting especially when I’m next to him, I love his humor. So he would say something like if we’re like at a banquet or event or whatever it is, he would say a joke or he’ll say something about somebody and it would be so funny to me and I couldn’t control my laugh so I would like express it. So I’m just like I don’t care. I’m laughing hard, right? So, and then you can see him. So, now I got to pop him. I got to hit and grab. I got to do all that. You know what I mean? I got to show my affection. So, that’s that’s what for me that’s that was I think I don’t know where this one was at, but I did this a lot to him. It’s like my big little brother. [Music]
