REDS POSTCAST: Cincinnati Reds STRAND 13 Runners in 4-3 Loss to Pittsburgh Pirates

[Music] This is the Reds post, your instant game reaction for the Cincinnati Reds, part of the Locked On Network, your team every day. [Music] Good evening, Reds fans, and welcome to another edition of the Reds Post, brought to you by Locked on Reds and the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. I’m Tim Daniel. I am a long-suffering Reds fan who has to watch Matt Mlan get clutch at bats in big situations. Thank you for joining me tonight as we discuss the Reds blowing at another opportunity to take advantage and lose four to three to the Pittsburgh Pirates when they strand 13 hitters. Okay, that’s my one. If you’re just checking my show out for the first time, welcome. We’re so glad to have you. Please be sure to hit that notification button here on YouTube so you can only get my show after each and every Reds game. Download the Game Time app, create an account, use code locked on MLB for $20 off your first purchase. Well, on tonight’s show, the Reds still can’t seem to get a hit with a runner in scoring position, and this is just really stupid. Terry Francona had some decision-making tonight that I just want to figure out what the hell was he thinking and Tyler Stevenson showed up when no one else did. That’s been the trend the last two nights that one guy’s shown up and the rest of the team has not. and it’s really costing this team and I need to figure out a lot of it and I’m gonna vent and you guys are gonna help me make me feel better because I am pissed. This is what you’ll be talking about. Want to first start out by mentioning we are live tonight also on locked on MLB and locked on daily. So if you are checking us out for the first time there, hello. We’re so happy to have you as well. One for 13 with thrown as a scoring position today. A game when the do the pirates were just asking you take it from us. Please take it from Sorry. One for 10. 13 left on base. I have that wrong. So many opportunities tonight. Yeah. Whan says it here. Packgabp lol. How’d that go? Did it go well? Did Matt Mlan get at bats in clutch situations and no show? He did. Okay. Great job, guys. Wonderful work by the Reds tonight. What a clown show. The the ace battle that delivered. That’s not even the most important part of this conversation. They’re called the Guardians, Jonathan. They’re not called the Indians. Um, unless you want to root for the Pirates AAA team, now the Reds are under 500 against the Pirates on the year. That’s pretty embarrassing. I said it last night. The Pirates are a team that’s on the verge of losing 90 games this year. And you can’t beat them with your damn season on the line with every opportunity to get a damn win when you have to get into the postseason. You can’t beat this team. They freaking keep taking you to extras. You can’t beat them. You have all that momentum after Tyler Stevens home run. You can’t get off the You can’t build off that. Why should we even bother with you? Why? Your bullpen keeps you in the game tonight. Your defense is really good tonight. You can’t get one freaking hit when it matters the most. Unbelievable. It’s a joke. You’re letting Jack Sinsky. Jack Sinsky with his 505 OPS get the game-winning hit. Jack Sinsky, guys. Seriously, he’s awful. He’s god terrible. I’m so frustrated and irritated. And a lot of it is the same conversation we’ve had all season. It’s not just the runners in scoring position issue. It’s the fact in extra innings they can’t ever figure it out. How is that possible to have games like this over and over again in extra innings? You can’t just run it to one sometime. Jesus, it’s unbelievably frustrating. I can’t even understand how they keep getting themselves in this situation. I’m so so freaking frustrated. I’m so pissed because this is a night that they should have had. Paul Skins left. Everything was up in the air. The Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen was awful tonight and you couldn’t beat them. You’re a clown show. If you’re ter Francona, you’ve got a lot of questions to answer, and I can’t wait to ask them right after this. What do you get when you have a bald eagle standing on top of a silverback gorilla riding a T-Rex? Confidence. Pure confidence. Thank you all so much for spending some time with me here tonight, the good and the bad. And also shout out to people checking us out on locked on MLB and locked on daily tonight as well. If you are just checking me out for the first time, you want to check out all of our shows where I’m here for the last four baseball games of the season and then Jeff and Steve Monday through Friday unlocked on Reds as well. I also want to make note before we move on and complain about Terry Francona. Uh, I got to give a big shout out to our everyday because we just got the results back. Locked on Reds is the number eight baseball podcast right now in the United States by listens on Apple Pod. So, thank you all to every day. It’s really cool and even when this team pisses us off like this, you guys still back us up. And Jeff, Steve, and I, we couldn’t be more grateful for your guys’ love and support every day. Let’s get to the turning point. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. Dax Sinsky. Who? The guy who could get a catch last night on Will Benson. He’s a bum and he beat you tonight. Tony Santion put one on a tea for him. Jack Sinsky. Unfreaking believable. Terry Francona tonight did a lot of things that I just don’t seem to understand for a guy who has won World Series, has been in World Series, has won manager of the year awards, has done all these amazing things as a manager. And I get it. He doesn’t have the talent here that he had in all those places. I’m not fighting that. Actually, he might. I might argue he might. But decision- making tonight is really, really frustrating. First one, they take South C Stewart out. Now, I’m fine with doing the defensive replacement of Kebran Hayes because South Stewart obviously let a run go with an awful play earlier in the game. Sure, you know, I get that. Why does he pull Kean Hayes after an inning? Why is Miguel Andrew hitting for Kebran Hayes here? Why isn’t he hitting for Matt Mlan? What’s the point? I mean, what’s the point? Like that that those two things right there, it really frustrates me. Okay, we get to extras. Do Mart gets on base. Why isn’t he stealing second base? I know Henry Davis has this great pop time. Dar Moretta can’t hold runners on. It’s been pretty like well documented. John literally lists it off on the broadcast when Ellie comes to the plate. Do you guys understand if Novi Mart is on second base when Ellie has that bloop single? We’re having a whole different conversation right now. We’re celebrating because the Cubs are up eight runs on the Mets right now and we’re looking at possibly taking back that spot that we need. Do you guys Does that like that doesn’t make sense to me? Like I don’t care about Henry Davis. Someone’s got to get him the ball to the plate which is the pitcher Darian Metta who can’t get anyone there. And then Matt Mlan gets that at bat in the 11th. Matt Mlan, who I think I sent a screenshot to Steve of his comparison to Austin Hayes. I get Austin Hayes is hurt and all this stuff, whatever it is with his back issue. He if he can’t swing the bat, why is he here? If he can’t swing the bat, what what why bother? Why bother? Even with like his bad back, I think I trust him more than I trust Matt Mlan. And I love Matt Mlan. I’ve gone to bat for Matt Mlan. I am sick of Matt Mlan in 2025. I am very sick of Matt Mlan 2025. I’m very sick of Matt Mlan in September of 2025. I should say more than anything. It’s just so irritating and none of it makes any sense because like I said, it’s not only the fact it’s the Pirates. It’s the Pirates saying like, “Dude, win this game. Like, take it from us.” And the Reds have no shot at doing so. One of 13 runners scored 13 left on base. One of 10 run scoring position. Unbelievable. I get keep Ryan Hayes is over for 25. Like I said, I totally get that. But there’s better ways to handle that. Much better ways to handle that. By the way, the Cubs are up eight runs on the Mets right now. So, you know, you had your opportunity yet again. Tyler Stevenson at least did his job tonight and we can at least celebrate that, right? Let’s talk about that and more right after this. The NFL season is here and FanDuel is making sure you’re ready for kickoff with a can’t miss offer. Right now, new customers can bet just $5 and if your bet wins, you’ll get $300 in bonus bets to use across the app. I love using FanDuel because it fits however I like to bet. Player props, building a same game parlay, or even jumping in live as the action unfolds or lately getting ready for the NBA season. I’ve been betting a lot of futures. It makes every game more exciting. Whether you’re watching your team or just keeping an eye on your fantasy lineup, it’s quick, easy, and the best way to add a little more energy to Sundays. So, are you ready to play? Download the FanDuel app now by visiting fandol.com to get started. That’s fuel.com to place your first $5 bet. Riverview says something here that I meant to shout out. I wasn’t there tonight, but the crowd was incredible. And you could tell on television how good they were. Crowd was incredible tonight. They did their part. They packed GABP. All these things these players asked the fans to do, they did. Team didn’t team didn’t show up. All right. I think it’s fair to say Tyler Stevenson earned the right to be called locked on player of the game. This is the locked on player of the game. Now, before we get to someone talk about the strikeout and extras, I am not going to fault him one bit for that because the team tonight had 10 hits. He had four of them by himself and he had the biggest hit, a no doubter home run to tie the game up to give them a chance to win. Ty Stevenson was awesome tonight. Four for five. I mean, nearly two home runs if that ball just goes a foot higher on that on this that double win. Oh, by the way, he was left stranded with no outs. Last night it was Elli Cruz doing everything he could for the Reds to win this win their game and the team let him down. Tonight it was Tyler Stevenson. Tyler Stevenson really deserved a win tonight. I know normally I come on here and I talk about the pitchers and don’t get me wrong, Hunter Green was really good tonight. You should be able to leave a game with uh two runs and not feel like it’s over. This is just irritating. Now, tomorrow, the pressure is on everybody. You can’t get slept by the A’s and the Pirates and expect to make the playoffs. And maybe I’m just talking out of hope here. Don’t me wrong. It’s really great to have emotions like this in games in September. Again, I have missed this feeling for a long time. But this was really frustrating. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, this is right, too. I mean, that Marte inside the park home run was awesome. That was so awesome. Also trying to figure out what the hell Tommy Fam was doing on that play, too. But whatever. Help the Reds out. Maybe it was mad that O’Neal Cruz had Joe Burrow and put him on the IR or something in their fancy football league. Whatever. But with that being said, the Reds are losers tonight and 11 four to three. The Pirates have four runs on six hits, no errors. The Reds have three runs on 10 hits, no errors. Your winning pitcher tonight is, where’s my notes? Johan Ramirez. That’s how bad the game went. Nick Martinez is your losing pitcher. He is now 11 and4. And tomorrow we close GABP with the final home game of the season as the Reds try to get one chance, one more one at GABP with a chance to stay alive. Nicolo takes the hill for the Reds. He is 8 and8 with a 344 RA. He’ll be going against Braxton Ashcraft who is 4 and3 with a 262. First pitch is at 12:40. I’ll be on probably a little later than normal just because it’s on during the workday. So, I’ll probably be on about 4:00 4:30ish, but I’ll keep you guys posted. Everyone, thank you so much for hanging out tonight. Just try to get one tomorrow, I guess. Go Reds. Go Cubs. Go Dodgers. I’m Tim Daniel. Have a great evening.
