Pirates vs. Reds Game Highlights (9/24/25) | MLB Highlights
In one corner, the favorite for the National league, Cy Young and across the ring tonight, Cincinnati’s flamethrower has postseason expectations resting on his shoulders at Great American ballpark. Everyone here hoping to get their money’s worth tonight. We’ll call it must see TV, and maybe close to a must win situation for the home team. Hunter Green gets the ball for the like, Hunter has really become that guy at a time where this team has needed him to become that guy. Obviously, the expectation has always been there, but I feel like he has really embraced this opportunity to be the guy on the mound and lead this team into the postseason. Bruises, lone hit last night, a two run homer. That was the capper in a four run second, the fastball at 101 over the outer half to the left handed hitting Cruz Jared Triolo. He doubled yesterday. Foul tip strike three. Just a really good pitch. The location of this forcing fastball. Yes, it is 100 but it’s on the inside part and high taking away the space and the time of the hitter rolled, grazes Green’s glove mclean stays with it. So the side is retired green. Oh, nice, easy 123 1st. We go to the bottom of the first inning. Paul Skeens. He is making his 32nd start of the year. His records 10 and 10. I’m sure he wants to leave this game in line for a victory. One man out of the inning, Marte standing in, strikes him out 99 miles an hour right at the top of the zone. So Paul’s, that’s a four seamer right here but he gets some arm side run to it. See a little bit of that straightening out right at the end. Cavin looks four for eight against schemes and a pop up Triolo. That’s one inning and that’s a zero tonight for schemes. Nothing, nothing through one. Spencer. Horwitz leads it off for the Pirates. Check swing. He went no appeal needed, unhappy. There was no check at third green. Last eight home starts has a 125 a in this ballpark. Tommy Pham climbs in now and he , the first baserunner tonight, a two out walk sets up Nick Gonzalez in the seventh spot tonight. Instead, a pick to first. They’ve got Pham picked off. Steer will chase him to second. Now, flip to mclean mclean chasing him back to first tags him on the hip and pham is out, the inning is over. Spencer Steer will lead it off swing and a miss and he dispatches Steer and now Skeens owns Pirates record all alone most strikeouts in the season by a right handed pitcher, 211 strike three call and freezes him with a fastball, third strikeout for Skis. And so far both pitchers, Hunter Green and Paul Sens have been on their game and this ball is ripped down the left field line that will head into the corner. That’s the games first hit and into second base with a leadoff double is nick Gonzalez and here’s Nick Yorke outs to first steer good glove on a low skip. It does advance Gonzalez. He gets to third one out check. Swede appealing. We strike 3/4 strikeout for Green. He struck him out a little highway one and one right down Broadway and green just flat blue Cruz away. So a double stranded at third, we are scoreless and Paul is back out there here for the bottom of the third matching Hunter Green so far it has lived up to its billing line drive in the left field. That’s a base hit. I thought for a moment that Gonzalez was going to flag it down. He flashed the leather but the ball was buying. So a leadoff single very similar to what we saw from the Pirates in their top of this inning rolled sliding stop pop up and by Friedel reaches Stevenson to second two on two down base hit freedom. They award Friedel a hit considering his speed. Here’s Marte Skene struck him out the first time around Yes. Paul Skeens strikes out his fourth and three scoreless. It’s nothing, nothing. Technically, his earned run average at the moment is 1.9981949. Reynolds works a one out walk and he’s aboard second walk. The greens issued pirates have had base each of the last three innings. Here’s Hoitz struck out in an uncharacteristic chase his first time around ball and into the corner. Brian Reynolds taking off it scoots around out there. Marte fixes it out and here comes reynolds and there goes Horowitz the third is out but he gets credit for the RB I double and it’s one Pittsburgh each team with three hits. But right now the Pirates with the lone run, Tyler Stevenson had the Reds first hit. Now he swing and a fly ball well , hit deep left center field. There it goes and it’s off the wall. Stevenson on his way to second base and he’s in sliding safely with a leadoff double. I thought that ball was out of here, hit right off just below the yellow line in dead center field. Tell you what if it’s not as humid as it is right now. That ball’s probably out of here on any other night. Grounding right side, Stevenson breaks HTZ hits the bag. Benson gets him over tying, run 90 ft away one out. Yes. There we go. Pitch to the change up down below the zone. That is a great pitch. You don’t see a whole lot of right on. Right. Changeups at work as well as this one right here. Did he go? He did Paul strikes out Friedel Stran Stevenson at third six strikeouts for the major league , er, a leader, Jared Triolo comes the plate grounded sharply. Nice pick by Stewart his prettiest play at third as a big leaguer. That’s the first time that Sal was really tested at third base. Dropping that anchor get to his feet an easy throw across the diamond. Nice play drive to center line drive to Friedel and over his head that ball carried Friedel didn’t expect that reynolds into second base pretty well hit double to deep center spencer Horowitz with Reynolds at second and two outs, ground ball under the glove of the third baseman Stewart. Here comes Reynolds way off and Horowitz will wind up at second. It’s two nothing. Skeens looking and reacting two nothing. And on the other side, green went back to the dugout. A little frustrated Paul Skeens back out there for the bottom of the sixth innings. Been through standing in nobody on and two outs swing and a miss struck him out with the fastball on the outer edge. Seven strikeouts for Skeens through six scoreless innings in Cincinnati. We will see what the Pirates decide to do with Big Paul Skeens in his final start of the year. Don Kelly greets Paul schemes, the big hug and that is it. What a finish to a phenomenal season high fives handshakes hugs with his teammates down the line six shutout innings, four hits, no runs, no walks, seven strikeouts. 85 pitches a 197 a, he’ll be the first national league pitcher to finish the season with an, er, a under two since Jacob deGrom finished with a 170 a with the Mets 2018 reds are running light on outs. They’re down 2 to 0. Bottom eight. They need wins in the worst way. New pitcher is Isaac Metsu ground ball sliding, stop by Yorke on a bounced nice play. That is exactly what it was. It was a nice play by Yorke. Timing was perfect. Left his feet hands out away from his body right into his throwing motion two outs for the right hand batting Noel Marte drive to center Cruz flight off the wall and Cruz falls down. Marte’s got wheels, he’s around second, he’s got, gets an inside shutout spoiled, but this ball was hammered by Noel Marte and this ball right off the center field wall. O’neill Cruz gets there at the same time and by that time, Noel with his speed easily inside the park high ball four and the Reds have the tying run on quite a bit of momentum has now shifted in the rims direction. Henry davis out to the mound to try to settle down the young Matson and it doesn’t appear as though Matson is going to face Spencer Steer Don Kelly out of the pirate dugout on his to the mound. And I think the pirates are going to bring in their closer Dennis, Santana Noel Marte had some rough at bats early. He drilled it inside the park homer with two down to get the Reds on the board. Walk is followed. They’ve gone deeper in the pen. The closer Santana against spencer steer, they’ve got him. He’s got first. The go ahead run is on lie de la Cruz is coming to the plate to second stabbing, grab York to first and with his hand on the bag Horwitz, but perhaps a game saving play by Nick Yorke at second, Dennis Santana. Some help from his defense just three outs away for another save. Tyler Stevenson a strong day with three hits in the half dozen campaigns in the show. Tyler Stevenson does not yet have a four hit game, no shot. Yeah, of his, his first unlocks the day with one 13 games back 13 RBIs for QB one Tyler Stevenson extras at Great American ballpark. It’s been dreadful for the Reds second worst record in the league. Pirates have played a lot of one run games, the most of the majors, 58 their highest total in over a decade. It’s a wild pitch. It sends the runner to third center field that’ll certainly bring the run home and over the head of Friedel and over the wall, Sosinski a book rule. Double Pirates have the lead again. It’s 32. The last two at bats from Melby Marte have been really, really good swing center field later for Fried soy Scco stop for Friedel and playing Sowinski Shallow Aids. The Pirates there, Marte. Second knock of the night tying run is 90 ft away with nobody out locks high fly. Pretty deep center. That’s gonna be a run. Soins makes the catch Friedel tags set top of the 11th inning here in Cincinnati spencer Horowitz will be leading things off. Good opportunity for spencer Horowitz to do it again. Line drive right field. Spencer Horowitz has done it again. Gives the Pirates the lead another double spencer for higher. The Bucks lead it 4 to 3 ST double play. Mclean turns two by himself. That is huge. That ball was a rocket clutch, double play four unassisted and Canarios race at second base. Two walks in the inning base hit can win it. The run goes to third and the potential winning run in scoring position. And here comes the man that got the scoring started for the Reds and inside the park home run in the eighth, a single in the 10th and will be Martín top to third. Triolo hits the bat. The Reds leave them loaded. They have lost the series to the Pirates. The Reds go one for 10 with men in scoring position and straight 13, they never know a lead and they lose at 1143 frustrating game for the Reds.

Cy young easy
Hunter Greene is dangerous bro
Fitting that Skenes didn't get the win….again.
Imagine pitching for a 1.97 era and finishing the year 10-10. Pirates are so awful 😂😭🤦♂️
Get Skenes out of Pittsburgh😂😂
CY YOUNG RIGHT THERE
Nasty armpits.
Oh, man. I'm a Bucco fan but I really want to see the Reds get in this season. Mets and D-backs lost so only a game back.
5:47 ??????
5:47 not her best look ngl
I understand he's got a 1.99 era but he's 10-10, Paul skenes is a tough cookie though. Reds lost by 4 inches. If Tyler Stephensons, double goes out, reds win in 9. Mets lost though. Watch d backs get in, past reds and Mets. To lose 1st 2 to pirates at home is very disappointing, to say the least.
RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!
As a Reds fan, I’m grateful for Pittsburgh. Without them, we’d be the most disappointing team in the division. At least we have something to play for 😁
His previous game was supposed to be his final one, but they bring him back for one more and of course they cannot hold the slim lead, but at least his ERA ended up under 2 so that accomplished something😃. Pirates, let me go so he can be on a team that at least tries to excel, and DO NOT trade him for the cliche "prospects". Be ethical for once and let the young man not waste his best years squandering great outings.
Cant even beat the Pirates when your playoff "hopes" are on the line? Reds are laughable 😂😂😂
Fireballer vs. fireballer showdown did not disappoint 🔥⚾ both with quality starts. Can’t wait to see them help their squads even more next year 👀💪
Skenes needs to go join the Dodgers, I think he would be happier
Fun fact: my great grandfather was a coal miner in west virginia they used to rub the black stuff under their armpits as a natural deodorant lol im just trolling that color was nastyyyyy
Matt McLain is a DISASTER!!!
If the manager would have played Esponal the entire year they would be up 4 games in the wild card!!!
DEE-SASTER
Hang in there Livvy, just four more years of pretending to like Pittsburgh before your boy relocates to LA.
Skenes throws 6 shutout inning to get his era under 2 and doesn’t get the win. Had the pirates lost in extras, it would have been a great microcosm of the season.
Skenes is insane❤
Thank you Lord for giving us ALL the talents and abilities to perform for your Glory. 😊 Amen.
レッズ!頑張れ😮生き残れ
メッツはきっと自滅してくれる!
DAMN l, what a game
Pittsburgh barely hanging on there.
😢 common Reds
