Pat Murphy sounds off on Brewers 1-game to clinch MLB best record, beat Padres 3-1 to avoid sweep

had a lot of hard contact caught and then he’s had a you know um he’s had some not so good at bats where he leaves his own chases down especially or chases up and um yeah so he was pressing a little bit he’s trying to produce numbers that’s not that’s not winning baseball trying to produce numbers it’s winning baseball is staying in your process so hopefully he as young as he is hopefully he learns and um I think the catch help him you Um, what was else? Cheerio hustle play. What was that? Stole that base to be in the scoring position. What else did he do? That was a Oh, he was safe at second on the ground ball. You know what I mean? That was good. What about just how Chad and Eric kind of set the tone and and got you into your leverage, guys? It really did. I mean, both of them guys were great. Fetty especially. Um, I could have taken him out the hitter before, but uh, he’s coming off just a few days rest and 56 pitches and I just thought he was he was magnificent today. He was great. I think he was pitcher of the game. You know, obviously our leverage guys, Mir’s pitch shot of a big one. Uh, Kane was great. Ube was great, but uh, Chad Patrick gave us what we needed. And then um yeah, the Jackson catch obviously was big. What did you think about S that sliding catch or in the fourth and uh Durban in the eighth? That was a big play as well. Yeah, I mean Durban’s play was great. S’s play. Um yeah, Cheerio’s catch. Those those are three three outstanding defensive plays that um you know, we made you know that those are types of things we do. That’s what makes us a decent club. And yeah, Bowers had great at bats. Jansen gave us, nobody’s mentioned Jansen yet. You guys paying attention to the game. Caught the whole game. He caught six different pitchers, two walks on or a walk, a hit, and a homer. You know, I thought I thought he was great. This road trip got away from him just a little bit, but they salvaged it here. 96 wins. Third time in franchise history. They did it in 2011. They did it in 2018. Did it in 2025. I’m calling it 2032. every seven years. That’s exactly No, they’re Yes, they’re put an exclamation point on the fact that they did the road on the job all season long. Uh they were able to put it together. This was a huge team win, by the way. The pitching staff was incredible. Uh the defense was there and the big hits were there and the pressure was there. They help put a lot of pressure on Padres’s pitching. Yeah. 45 road wins for the Brewers. That’s the most in Major League Baseball this year. and it helped them get to win number 96, which as Tim mentioned, tied with the 2018 2011 teams for the most in franchise history. Three games left at American Family Field against the Reds for the Brewers. This 2025 team to set themselves at the top of the franchise record books. Let’s head down to the field. Sophia Minard is standing by. Thanks, guys. Danny, what a big home run there. Your second as a Brewer. You work a full count. What were you expecting there from Estrada? No, I was just trying to be on time with the fast ball. Um I felt like throughout the whole day today I was putting some pretty good swings on. So, um just feeling more confident at the dish and then um tried to be on time with a fast ball and got a slider kind of inner inner half maybe and uh just put a good swing on it behind the plate for you. Busy day. Chad Patrick, Eric Fetty provided the length at the front. What did you see from them just controlling their lineup? Yeah, it was great. I mean, it’s a good lineup over there. So these guys going out there and attacking um you know letting the defense the awesome defense behind them work and um really just attacking the zone. I think throughout the whole day a lot of guys picking each other up so it was pretty fun. What about that jam that Nick Mirs was in bases loaded and then getting Luis Aas out. How did you want to pitch to him at the top of the order? Yeah, I mean he’s obviously a very talented player. Um but Messy he dug deep. He’s a stud. Um it’s been a lot of fun to watch him work. Um you know he’s not going to give in. and he’s going to go right after with everything he has. And it’s an awesome job. I mean, huge, huge swing of the game right there. Finally, 96 wins. That ties a franchise record. You guys also finished with 45 wins on the road, which is also the best in baseball. How does it feel to just finish off the road trip and the time on the road here this way with a big win like this? Yeah, it feels great. Good momentum going home for the final three games uh to be, you know, in front of our home crowd. It’s going to be amazing. So, been a lot of fun to be a part of this um and looking forward to the rest. All right, Danny, thanks for the time. Yep, you got it. Thanks. It’s the third time in franchise history that the Brewers have led the league in road wins in a single season, including ties. First time they’ve done so outright. So, another one of those moments of history for this 2025 Brewers team. And our Menard’s big money moment this afternoon, Tim. I mean, the scoring didn’t come to the fifth, but thanks to Jackson Cheerio, the scoring could have gotten out of hand early. Yeah, very early. First inning, Jackson Cheerio, there’s two outs and this ball is blasted into center field. And Cheerio’s like, “Oh, I got it.” Woo! Cheerio lowering cholesterol. Very heart healthy on this one. Absolutely robs Xander Bogarts. And then got a high five. Probably going to get some free dinner from Chad Patrick. And then later on the third inning, it’s a strike him out, throw him out. Jansen, armed and dangerous. Monero tag. You’re iterized. Ends the inning there. Uh, and we’re not done. Fast forward to the fourth inning. Want the leadoff man off the board? You got it. Sal Felix. Sal Felix driving. Sounds delicious. Diving in. Tough play. Got it done. And then we move to the later innings. And it’s Caleb Durban making an incredible backhanded stop here. You know, out of all the plays to get to this moment, he’s playing no doubles. He’s on the line. Uh and again, Bogart’s pulling a ball down the line. Uh, big moment. Big moment. Base is loaded. There’s two outs. You got to have something happen here. And he delivers. So, you talk about clutch, what the postseason’s going to look like. That’s what we just showed you. This is clutch defense and you’re going to need that. Is this team ready? Are they young? Absolutely. Are they ready? I think they proved it today. I mean, two of the three runs the Brewers scored came with two outs. The hits from Terang and Andrew Vaughn. We talked about the great defense. And then also pitching. I mean, all three pillars were covered today from the Brewers. And it was Chad Patrick and Eric Fetty really setting the tone for these Brewers against this was the A squad for the Padres’s this afternoon and they pretty much rolled out their postseason roster. I mean Dylan CE rolls out there and strikes out the world. Couldn’t do much against him. But Chad Patrick, I mean this guy just pitched on the road trip. He got the uh was part of that only win they had in St. Louis, but he came out good again. The cutter was good. We saw glimpses of the slider. uh turns it over after three scoreless to Eric Fetty. Eric Fetty was good through two and two/3s till he gave up a homer. But what I really liked about Fetty is he did everything. Used all his pitches. Uh he got the strike out when he needed it. Um and you know what? Sometimes you’re going to question yourself. I wonder if Pat Murphy’s going to say, you know what, Fetty shouldn’t have been in that ball game. We had Aaron Ashby hot and ready to go like a Little Caesar’s pizza. Like why didn’t we get him out there against the lefty and Merryill? He’s probably going to take ownership of that. But the reason he left Fetty out there in that situation with all the lefties coming up is he was that good. He shut down this Padres’s lineup uh for two and two/3. Almost got to that third inning uh done with, but uh again, he was sharp. Everyone’s trying for that postseason roster. We’re seeing a lot of guys putting their name in the hat that deserve it. Yeah, you heard from Jansen, too, praising Nick Mirs. It wasn’t his cleanest outing, but you know, the bases loaded pop out to a three-time batting champion. That that was a big at bat. There were some sticky moments in this ball game that easily could have shifted. We saw the Cheerio robbing the home run obviously, but yeah, bases loaded. Nick Mirs is out there uh not giving up a ton of hard contact, but when you start intentionally walking guys and now suddenly you have to get an out and all of a sudden here comes Lisa Rise one of the best hitters in all of baseball with the bases loaded like things get sticky and you have to rely you got to keep your pitcher calm. I think that’s what Jansen did for me.
