Aaron Glenn Press Conference (9/19) | New York Jets
like a couple exclusives. All right, good morning. Uh, on the injury front, uh, Josh Reynolds will be out. Um, Kane will be out. Uh Jay Tefelli, he will be out and Jermaine Johnson will be out. All right, so those are the guys that um that won’t be playing this week. Uh when it comes to this game, uh nothing has changed uh from the mindset of what I said earlier in the week. Uh we are going to Tampa to go win a game. Uh our guys are upbeat, coaches upbeat. Uh had a really good week of practice. Um looking forward to get on this plane, uh being able to lock arms uh as a team. uh get this get to this hotel um and have our total focus on uh playing our brand of football and um and that is it. That is it. And I’ve said this to said before, I think if we play our brand of football uh for the most part, those results will be a win for us. And we’re looking forward um to going playing uh playing our asses off to get a win. So um like I said, a good opponent. Nothing else need to be said about who those guys are. That’s always been talked about. Um, and we’re looking forward to this one. With Germaine, is that the same ankle he had the Achilles? Uh, no, it’s not. It’s not. No, it’s not. Is it a sprain ankle? Sprain ankle. With uh Jay, uh, he’s been out with an illness for a while. Yeah. Can you share anything about that? No, I won’t do that. You know, it’s just an illness and um, we expect him back real soon. Okay. You guys haven’t um had takeway yet. Yep. Is there I mean I obviously know you guys practice stuff like the punch down drill. Is there are there things that you can emphasize as a coach to try to spark that summer? Well, you just said it. It’s it’s the ability to emphasize it as much as possible. Not just emphasize it, you have to put action behind that also. And um and that’s done on a daily basis. Uh when you watch our individual um here’s one thing I do know when it comes to takeaways and we all know, we all hear it, we all say it that they come in bunches. It’s just we have to get that first one and I do believe once we get that first one um they will come, you know, after that and our guys they’re they’re working our ass off to get them. Um and the thing is usually when you do that and you don’t get them sometimes you get frustrated. So we can’t get frustrated. We just got to continue uh doing the things that we’ve been doing to try to get them and I know for a fact they’re coming. Can you speak about your relationship with Todd that you begin the week by saying how personal this is and Yeah. going back to 2000 and 2005 and how much of a impact he’s had on you throughout your career. Well, I would acknowledge that he’s a um he’s a really good friend first and foremost. Um and then back that up with how good of a coach he is. Uh very knowledgeable. I’ve had plenty of opportunities at the combine, uh other places to sit with him and just talk football. and he’s one of the coaches that um he doesn’t hold anything back when it comes to information. Um obviously he’s not going to give me what they do or anything like that which I don’t ask but just talking football in general um of being a head coach but even before that being a coordinator you know we had you know several conversations on um how to go about that and I’m very appreciative of who he is and what he’s done for me. Um but again I’m sure that he feels the same way I feel. man, we going to get a win against each other. Um, and we’ll be talking after that. When when you were looking to be hired here, you talked to Todd about I mean, obviously he played here, so you know what that aspect is, but I mean, he has firsthand knowledge of what it is to coach here, too. Yeah. Well, our conversation was more or less on the um on the bigger picture instead of like teams, to be honest with you. And that’s what I needed from him for the most part. Um just what it’s like the interview process which I had been through it before, but just from his um his point of view, you know, what is it like and then just the steps to take as you become a head coach and um he always told me that I was ready and I appreciate that from him. Um, but he also told me, man, there are going to be some things that that we haven’t talked about or anybody else that’s your mentor uh hasn’t told you. That’s just going to come up and you just have to make the best decision you can uh for the organization and for the team. And um he was right. You know, some things do go uh come up like that. But I appreciate the forward thinking that he was telling me about those things and um and I always use his advice to the best of my knowledge to be able to uh to handle situations like that. Just assuming Brady will be elevated. Yeah. What he’s a player away now. Yeah. Right. What’s What’s your confidence level on him? Um well, he wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t confidence in him. Confident in him. He um I thought he didn’t really get things in the preseason. Um listen, he’s still learning and it’s one of those things, man. We have a number of rookies uh that play on the field for us and it’s no different than him being a quarterback. Obviously, it’s a a more highlighted position. Um, but he’s a rookie and if it comes to him to play, he has to play and we’re going to do everything we can to put him in the best position to be successful. With Justin, I’m sure he wanted to be out there this week. Just how is he handling, you know, everything that’s gone with with, you know, having a setback with the injury and and you know, how has that been? I think he’s handling as as well as he can. Um, every competitor wants to be out on the field. Um but we understand the situation that he that he’s in and um get himself right, be ready for the next game. And that’s um like that’s been my message to him. Um and also be able to help, you know, where needed, you know. So Tyrod’s going to continue to lean on him. Brady’s going to continue to lean on him, and it’s his job to make sure that he um he give those guys the information that’s needed just like they will give him. What’s your philosophy, Aaron, on players who get injured? Yeah, they lose their starting job from through injury or is it there? I won’t answer that type of question. How do you handle the Bucks are the Bucks are banged up on the old line? Obviously, missing three starters. Do you talk about that much with your team or do you say, you know, that definitely doesn’t matter? If you’re playing, you’re playing. Got this is the NFL and there’s a number of good players in this league. Um, and injuries are part of this league. So, it’s not like we look at their injuries and and we say we’re going to slow down or they look at ours cuz we have some too, you know. So, um that’s one thing we will not use as an excuse or we will not use forbait anything. Now, they have guys that line up. We’re going to line up against them guys and we’re going to do everything we can to beat those guys and that’s all we think about. I guess you use it to speed up though, right? Like you’re saying, “Hey, we got these backups.” Like, do you do that? They’re NFL players, you know? They’re the best of the best. You know, they just have to be a backup. But you don’t get in this league without being one of the best players at your position. So, um, we don’t look it like that. You know, it’s nameless, faceless. Let’s go. One guy that, sorry. One guy that kind of flew under the radar when he got here was uh Brace and he seemed to have a pretty good game on Sunday. What What did you think of his performance? He he did have a pretty good game. Um, but now we want consistency behind that and we’re looking for him. It’s one of the reasons we got him because we thought he was a good player. Um, good size, good leverage, he’s strong, he’s tough. Um, so we’re looking for him to just be consistent on a game-to-ame basis. And then for him to be able to do that, I mean, it all starts in practice. And that’s one thing I do um, like about coaching that player is he understands how we practice and he looks forward to the competition every day in practice like we do. Couple more. How did you feel practice went this week and how you think they responded? Yeah, just like I said earlier, you know, when I when I started talking, I thought it was a great practice. Listen, our guys are upbeat. They’re motivated. Um here here’s what they do know is it was week two and the sky’s not falling. As much as we all think it is, as much as all the I know, as much as you guys write about that, the sky is not falling. I’ve been a part of that situation before. So, um our guys can rely on that. A lot of our coaches has been has been a part of that situation for before and they can rely on that and some of these players have too, you know. So, um, guys, we’re looking forward to moving on and 0 and2 sky’s not falling. Kind of along those lines, Quinnon said yesterday that as a defense, you know, they took what happened personally and in the run game and don’t want to let it happen again. What What do you What do you think when you hear that from one of your leaders? Um, well, that’s how it’s supposed to be. Um, in my opinion, you take every game personal. Um, you find something within each game to figure out how you can’t take it personal. Um, and some people just let’s go play, you know, let’s go play. So, um, when you give the yards that we given up, man, you should look within yourself, uh, and figure out what can I do better, you know, myself individually and then us as a team to make sure it doesn’t happen again. And I’m not surprised, you know, just type of player he is. I’m not surprised he uh he said something like that. So, I’m looking forward to each one of these guys. I’m not just talking about the defensive. I’m talking about offense and special. I’m looking forward to each one of these guys going out there um and playing their asses off. Thanks everybody. All right.

Where’s Allen Lazard? He gonna get some play this Sunday?
Will we win a game this year?
Everything can flip with a win ✈️
Love how he turned all the talent we have on defense into his old Detroit defenses….
Why is Eric Allen asking questions he’s a jets employee
Saying same shit elbruck sahla said
J Johnson need to play a full season smt
Tampa Bay offensive line is all beat up. Can we win a game?
Always count on Eric Allen to ask the dumbest inconsequential questions.
Note To Aaron Glenn- You are talking about the Jets the sky already felt down on this team for over a decade and a half now….
Aaron salah at it again with the dumb “good week of practice” to only get crushed by the bucs lmao
I liked AG as a player and I respect he is a new HC in the NFL…BUT he sounds just like Gase and Saleh. Sooner or later there needs to be results!
Same Ole’ NY Jets, different coaches and players and we are still in a playoff drought. It’s ownership that’s the problem for hiring incompetent people to be the GM and Head Coach.
Jet Coaches – Great week of practice, gotta watch the tape, give credit to the other team, and NOW our brand of football
Add that to our Jet Talk Bingo Card lol
Going to get a couple more losses in Florida next two games.
How the hell do you walk away from a job and team that is so close to a Super Bowl, just to be the headcoach of the JETS? I'd rather get a ring as a coordinator than be a first time headcoach for one of the worst teams in the NFL?
Really good week of practice………kiss of death
Insane to me how some of these fans are saying to fire AG after two weeks🤣🤣🤣. He’s going to be here for the next ten years
0-3
Bill Parcels had only 3 wins in his first head coaching season. Aaron Glenn will need several seasons to rebuild this team above .500.
Tank
Huh?!🤔 OK we get it. Q signed, Jamien, G5 & Sauce signed, JJ extended. Justin brought in for name recognition. This is a rebuilding team without tearing down to the studs. AG is the right HC. Just let’s have realistic expectations of a rebuilding team.
Get Eric Allen out of these press conferences please. This is for credentialed reporters and journalists to ask questions, not paid Jets employees.
Receivers got to be prepared and eyes 👀👀👀👀 gotta recognize when Ty 🚀🚀🏈🏈🧨🧨🧨🏈🏈🏈🚀 is about to throw them the ball……… ……. 👋👋🖐️🖐️REACH FOR IT🖐️🖐️👋👋!!!!!!
