RED SOX POSTCAST: Nathaneil Lowe & Carlos Narvaez Deliver Big-Time at the DISH

This is the Red Sox post, your instant game reaction for the Boston Red Sox, part of the Locked On podcast network, your team every day. I mean, really, don’t you have to tell the story about Nathaniel Lo from Sunday when he was dreadful against the Rays, especially twice with the bases loaded when he went down swinging. You tell that part of the story at the beginning of our locked on Red Sox post to tell you this. How can you not be romantic about baseball? Nathaniel Lo, two RBI singles. Two RBI singles knocked in a pair of runs. Carlos Narvay also coming through big time and chasing Kevin Gosman from the game. The Red Sox take the opener from the Blue Jays north of the border. And right now it’s just a matter of taking care of your own business. But I will tell you this, the Red Sox actually helped out the Yankees Tuesday night. But who cares? The Red Sox took care of their own business and now lead the series one game to none. Two more games on this road trip and then it’s home to wrap up the regular season against the Detroit Tigers. With that, we welcome you into our latest lockdown Red Sox post. I’m Steve Lennox. longtime play-by-play announcer and storyteller have painted the word picture in the minors and the big leagues in the World Baseball Classic, College Baseball, and the Senior League World Series on the ESPN networks. Red Sox take the opener 4-1 in Toronto. Lucas Gilo, you need to be better. But we’re going to talk about the bats to open up. This is what you’ll be talking about. For the Red Sox. They get on the board first. Nathaniel Low delivering in the second against Kevin Gosman. Gosman going through the top three hitters in the lineup like a hot knife through butter. Duran Story and Bregman. It wasn’t pretty on the night for those three as they combined to go one for 14. But Nathaniel Low two out RBI knock in the second that put the Red Sox up one- nothing. And then low in the sixth inning RBI single to make it two to one. Then later in the inning, Carlos Narvay 0 for 17 at the plate. Two strikes line drive into right center field that scored two put the Red Sox up four to one. And then it was the bullpack. Wilson comes in with two outs in the fifth inning, walks the first batter that he faces, and then gets the out on Schneider as he strikes him out. Wilson got the bottom of the sixth inning and retired the side one, two, three. Now, Sllayton was up and throwing, but instead of Sllayton for the seventh inning, Whitlock facing Varo Guerrero and Barger 234 in the lineup for the Blue Jays. Cut them down one, two, three. Struck out Guerrero on a nasty change up to get him looking. And then it was Sllayton for the eighth inning. What’ he do? He just retired the side one, two, three. So, still 4-1 going to the bottom of the ninth inning. Wilson, Whitlock, Sllayton, and then the closer, Araldis Chapman. Although he threw a lot of pitches, 10 total to the pinch hitter Isaiah Ker Fa got him finally for the first down of the inning on a grounder to shortstop. We’ll get into Golito and Trevor’s story in just a moment. You two are on the list and probably the naughty list right now. But anyway, Chapman comes back and gets Springier on a two- pitch to line up to left field. And most important in that ninth inning, you get nowhere near Vlatty Guerrero for one more turn at the plate. Chapman 1, two, three. So count them up. Wilson, Garrett Whitlock, Sllayton, and Chapman combining to retire the final 13 batters of the game. That is your number of the night. The relievers combining to retire the final 13 hitters that they face. Wilson walked the first batter that he faced. replacing Golito in that fifth inning, then got the strike out to get out of the inning. Nothing else doing for the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays on the night, held to three base hits. Thank you, baseball reference, for helping me out. It is now, let me get this right. It is now the 17th time this season, counted it all up, use my fingers and toes. 17th time this season, Red Sox pitchers have combined to give up three hits or four hits rather or less in a game. They gave up three hits total. four hits or less in a game for the 17th time this year. Now, the Yankees won in walk-off fashion. So, the Red Sox actually help out the Yankees. The Red Sox do pick up a game on the Blue Jays. I’m not worried about the division right now. Four back, five to go. Let’s not worry about that. Red Sox simply need to continue to take care of their own business. The Guardians win again. So, they’re now tied for first, but essentially in first place because they’ve got the tiebreaker against the uh against the Tigers who have now lost seven in a row. School taking the loss. Cleveland continues to win. A’s hosting Houston and that game underway. I think just probably underway in West Sacramento, California. So, if you want to scoreboard watch throughout the night, you can do that. I don’t know that you want to do that, but you could do that. You could stay up late. You can give us an update on X athletics on baseball during the night. Maybe I’ll check once, twice, maybe 15 times. I might try to go to bed before 1:00 a.m. Eastern. Who knows? Who cares? But just take care of your business. You’ve won the first game of this series against the Blue Jays, who have owned the season series so far, but you’ve got two more games in the series. You get by their best, Gossman, who was striking out batters left and right. He struck out Jiren Duran on six pitches over Duran’s first two at bats of the night. Duran did not have a good night at the plate. So, Golito, you need to be better because I’ve got a thought about the leadoff spot right now and you’re probably not going to want to hear it. But I will tell you, Masa Yoshida had two hits including a double and he scored a run in the cleanup spot. That might be a prelude to what I might be thinking for you and we’ll get into that in just a moment. Golito though, you knew he wasn’t going far. You really just had an idea. You wanted him to get through five. He couldn’t do that. walked the final batter that he faced in that fifth inning. Got Guerrero, helped him out. First pitch swinging popped up. Barger on a comebacker. Then Kirk walked and Alex Corus said, “That’s enough. I’m going to go get Justin Wilson.” And what’s Wilson do? Walks Lucas, the first batter that he faces. But then he came back and got a strikeout. But Golito needs to be better. He needs to be a lot better. And he could have one more start on Sunday in the finale against the Tigers. Who knows if that’s going to mean anything or not, but Lucas Gilito, the team now 18-8 in his 26 starts, but he’s 0 and two of two no decisions over his last four starts. And it’s the second straight start where Golito did not make it out of the fifth inning. Stop working deep counts. Alex Spear, Boston Globe had a great feature story on Lucas Gilito, how they’re working with him with the biomechanics and all the different things, but you got to stop walking batters. You got to stop nibbling. You got to stop. And Doug Eddings behind the plate, by the way, helped him out when he struck out uh Springer there early on in the game to leave three base uh three runners on base, I believe it was. But come on, Lucas Gilito. Need more out of him. Just absolutely. I mean, he very fortunate that he gave up just one run on three base hits, but he walked four in his outing, 98 pitches total over four and two/3 innings. That’s not getting it done. And speaking of not getting it done, he’s gotten it done all season long, but Trevor’s story with two errors early on in this game. Got to be better defensively. You’ve got to shore things up here. You cannot a give the Blue Jays most nights more than three outs in an inning. And come postseason time, you cannot give a team, the opposing team, more than three outs in an inning. You just cannot because it just elevates that much more. And stories made some errors of late. Bad throw E6 and then trying to cover the bag at second. Romy Gonzalez on that hard hit ball. Probably should have gone to first base didn’t. Well, more numbers of the night. Red Sox a big win. Just continue to win. Doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing behind you. It does, but it really doesn’t. As long as you continue to win games. And remember, even if the Red Sox and Guardians, you don’t have the tiebreaker over the Detroit Tigers. But right now, Cleveland tiebreaker over the Detroit Tigers. And you’ve got a game lead on Detroit for that second wild card, I believe, is how it’s set up right now. Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers. Uh Houston again playing later tonight. So you got a game lead for the second wild card over Detroit. Houston loses to the Athletics, then it would uh let’s see here. Yeah, it’d be a game. So, it’s it’s still interesting. You’ve got Houston to Detroit to look at right now. Uh within that your comments, we hear from you, Royal Ruters, plus more numbers of the night. We continue locked down Red Sox post and we are presented by Neutrifall. I wear a hat a lot. People tell me I’m not going bald. I’m losing some hair. Gabby hits on all the Red Sox storylines and has you covered again with the Locked On Red Sox podcast available wherever you get your podcast. 4-1 victory for the Red Sox. Another close game. When they got the three runs across in that sixth inning, you were probably thinking just like I was thinking, add on. They didn’t. But they continue to play close games. This is where we usually throw a couple numbers of the night at you before we hear from you as well. 59th win this season for the Red Sox when scoring first. Red Sox again allowing just three hits on the night against a Toronto lineup that can hit. And Gosman has pitched very well of late. Chased him from the game. Got him out of the game. Golita was mounting up the pitch count. Gosman was picking up strikeouts left and right it felt like, but it didn’t seem like that pitch count really started to elevate until uh he got into the middle innings. Red Sox also since July 10th. These are the close games. Now, they’ve scored some games here where they’ve scored 10 or more runs. Five or more runs is the magic number. Didn’t get to that magic number, but still picked up a 4-1 victory. But 44 of the last 63 games for the Red Sox decided by three runs or less. Bullpen was set up perfectly. Alex Kora again going with Whitlock for 234 and then Sllayton for the eighth inning and then Chapman for the ninth inning. I don’t want to say that was gutsy, but it was certainly I think the right move and it absolutely paid off for the Red Sox as well as they pick up the win. And uh hey, 15 games over 500. If they can win on Tuesday and it’s crochet against Max Scherzer, then you’d uh reach the high water mark again, tie the high water mark again at 16 games over 500. Sherzer has not looked good of late. He may not be in the rotation for the Blue Jays come uh October and playoff baseball. To your comments, we go right now. locked on Red Sox postcast and we’re going to hear from you our Royal Roers who is our leadoff hitter. We are saying hello to Urban Hume caught the end of it. Love the bullpen. How can you not, right? Uh and when Alex Gora has it lined up now it’s the other guys who have to step up because Crochet I I don’t put the ball in play, get outs, get easy outs on or off in four first five, six innings, try to get seven, right? probably his final regular season start tuning up for game one of the wild card round which starts next Tuesday as well. Three games in a row, no off days, three in a row, best two out of three. That’s the wild card round. And if it’s the Red Sox in that number two spot, likely the way it sets up now, it’s the Yankees all three in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium. Urban Human again. Not to jump the gun. Here we go. Or anything, but this feels more like the team that flipped the switch in June. Again, maybe, but you’ve got to get this lineup going a little bit more. William Breu, fly ball double on his first at bat of the night. Played right field, had a sliding catch. Looks good. Looked better than Hey, the other night you can give him a pass. 0 for four. I think the four strikeouts, swinging through fast balls each of his at bats. But um you know it looked much better, looked more comfortable being in there I think um for game two since coming off the IIL. Let’s hear from Danny. Danny boy just feels like there’s no room for error. There’s not this time of the season. Rooting that we make it into the playoffs, but boy, it will be by the hair of the chinny chin chin if we do. You’re in. You’re in. You’re in. You’re in. Look at the Tigers. Look at the Mets. They have absolutely sunk to the bottom and the Tigers, you know, the Red Sox still control what’s in front of them. The Mets don’t for the third wild card in the National League. The Tigers no longer control their own destiny. They’ve got to have things happen here. What was their lead? 17 and a half games just a few weeks ago. The Guardians have been outstanding and they’ve gotten pitching pitching pitching and more pitching. If it’s the Guardians versus uh I just want to see here real quick. I I don’t want to take too much time here. I just want to see the division leader. So Toronto 90 wins, Cleveland 85 wins. So uh would it be Detroit? It could possibly be Detroit and that it could be Cleveland Detroit for the for that wild card with the division winner being the number three seed or the uh number Yeah. the number three seed and the number six seed. Um, I don’t want to confuse myself here. Let’s get back into the comments here. Um, John, Tigers are imploding. Yeah, they are. The Red Sox aren’t doing that. They’ve made you scratch and claw and want to bang your head against the wall because the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over. And their approach at the plate sometimes leads you to strikeouts and not hitting with runners in scoring position. And we all want to go crazy over that. Uh, Danny, Detroit is going to be a handful. Those three games are going to mean so much to either the Socks or Detroit. It should be fun. Yeah. And you’re not going to get school. I guess if they pitched him on four days rest, he could go Sunday. But if you’re going to make it, wouldn’t you want him for game one? But if they absolutely have to make it on the final day of the regular season this upcoming Sunday at Fenway, then School’s probably going to be on the mount. Shermi 10, happy to witness a win. Hey, there you go. I was thinking of you up at Fenway. There you go. How many hot dogs were eaten Tuesday night? Dollar hot dogs or whatever it was. Oh my goodness. They had like 40,000 before the game even got underway. 38,000 or something like that. Let’s keep it rolling rest of the week. Shermai, appreciate you checking in. Back to Danny story been oddly poor defensively. Yeah, but boy, that ball he handled for the first out in the ninth inning. That was Yeah. Reminding how great he is. Yeah. And the other night, remember as well uh in Tampa with that dreadful infield dirt. Uh, so yes, good good one there. Daniel Barry, sports highlights. Happy Tuesday. Hey guys, there you go. George checking in. Okay, that’s one win. Need for more. Tigers are collapsing, are tied with Cleveland. That puts more pressure on the final series of the year. It does. Uh, they will need wins to get into the playoffs as we will. Yeah. And again, just take care of what you’re doing. And I don’t know that the Tigers can turn it around. Five days left in the regular season. We’ll see because they’ve been struggling for a while. Uh Gary, critical win. Gilito too deep in accounts. Yep. Touched on that, but good to see him sort of settle down. Good enough. Yeah, just good enough. Far Poppy, shout out to the bullpen. 13 in a row retiring to finish up. Gio kept us alive. He did while struggling with walks and the bats woke up for the captain. We’re in playoff baseball. Go Socks. Well said. Uh let’s screw scroll down here. Do I want to do this? Not yet. Uh Danny 2026, yes to low, no to Kasus. Uh no to both of them for me. That’s a hard pass. You got to figure out behind the plate. Uh Narvay and somebody else behind the plate. I like Carlos Narvay had the big base hit uh to add on to the lead. But um but no, you need to figure out the first base situation. And I don’t know that you have the first baseman in the organization. I’m going to do this. I’m going to let him in. 99 over 22. Thanks to the Red Sox Yankees winning the division. I don’t know about that, but we’ll see. Crochet day tomorrow. Life is great. 99 over 22. Letting you in here. Hey, if you don’t know, 99 over 22 is a Yankee fan who jumps in here every once in a while. Respectful and we enjoy having him in as well. Let’s see. Uh Jimmy J. Socks still deep. Weapons everywhere. Glad to see you bring you back. Very good. Uh three and three isn’t great, but I think we can make it going three and three. Well, it’s now five. I I thought maybe you were referencing three and three on this road trip. No, now you’re three and one. You want four-2 on this road trip. You win tomorrow. You want a series sweep. You had that opportunity against the Rays on Sunday. Didn’t happen. You win on crochet day on Wednesday. Look for the series sweep on Thursday. And then you go from there. Three against Detroit. And they’re scuffling. So we’d see what happens. Hey, that’s going to do it for us. As always, we tip our cap to you. Our first timers, our everydayers, yes, our Royal Rooters. And that does include our Yankee fan who joins us every once in a while. 99 over 22. You know what we remind you of right now. We’re going to be on within minutes of the final out. Game two of the three-game series against the Blue Jays in Toronto Wednesday night. Crochet day against Sherzer. Hopefully you can knock him out early because he was knocked out last time early. I don’t think he made it out of the first inning in his last outing. If it wasn’t the last outing, it was the outing before that. Anyway, on within minutes of the final out, game two of the threeame series, Wednesday night, Red Sox and Blue Jays. And that will be our next locked on Red Sox postcast. Locked on Sports, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network. Your team, your Red Sox every day.

The Red Sox (86-71) took the series opener over the Toronto Blue Jays with a 4-1 victory at Rogers Centre Tuesday night in Toronto.  The Sox are 3-1 on their final road trip of the season which has 2 games remaining in Toronto.  Justin Wilson, Garrett Whitlock, Justin Slaten and Aroldis Chapman combined to retire 13 hitters of the game.  Chapman worked a 1-2-3 9th for his 32nd Save.

Going with Gio: Lucas Giolito made the start in the series opener and ended up going 4.2 Innings. Giolito exited after giving up a 2-out walk in the 5th Inning.
The runner was eventually stranded by Justin Wilson. Giolito ended up giving up 1 run on 3 Hits. He walked 4, struck out 3 and threw 98 pitchers over his 4.2
Innings. It’s the 2nd straight start that Giolito failed to get out of the 5th Inning.  Giolito is 0-2 with 2 no-decisions over his last 4 starts. The Sox improved to 18-8
in Giolito’s 26 starts.

Sox at the Dish: The Sox got on the board 1st with a run in the 2nd Inning against Kevin Gausman. Masa Yoshida led off the inning with a Double and scored on a
2-out RBI Single from Nathaniel Lowe. The Sox pushed the go-ahead run across and went up 2-1 in the 6th and again it was Lowe, who knocked in a run with a
Single. With 2-outs in the 6th, Carlos Narvaez knocked in a pair of runs with a 2-run Double to make it 4-1 and that chased Gausman from the game.  The big hit
for Narvaez broke his 0-for-17 at the plate

  1. They don’t have options, but Giolito is going to be hard to trust in the playoffs if they make it. Amazed he only gave up one run. Lots of traffic on the bases. And please stop with the WALKS. Abreu looked better, so hopefully he returns to form quickly. Crochet needs to go deep tonight to save the BP.
