Fan who caught Cal Raleigh’s 60th HR gave it to a kid

  1. Definitely a cool move. Idk if I would have the balls to do that right there in the moment. That guy who caught fish mans 400th had the right idea. Let’s just have a catch for a moment. Hopefully the kids parents don’t try to force him to do something with it.

  2. I mean, you never know the guy’s financial situation, Seattle is a pretty above average income city, and there are a LOT of rich people here. He could very well have just been being kind

  3. Yeah, this whole thing is getting kind of crazy now. Don’t take a ball from a kid, but you don’t have to give every ball to a kid either.

  4. Good for him. No, no one should ever be expected to do that, but it’s also cool when someone does. I don’t think I could give away a #60 home run ball, but I guess that says something about where this dude is at in his life that he was willing to.

  5. That man is superior to all in here calling him an idiot. If only more people were as gracious. Clearly he didn’t need the payout that came with that specific ball, and wanted to give that young fan an experience he will never forget. Legend!!

  6. There’s, of course, always the chance he’s a super casual fan who pulled his M’s gear out of the closet and joined some work friends for what he heard was a big game. Between texting his wife and scrolling the news feed on his phone, he happened to be paying attention just in time to snag a home run ball from some big butt guy everyone is talking about. He knows you’re supposed to give those to a nearby kid, so…

  7. What an idiot. That kid’s parents are going to put that up for auction and get some big money.

  8. Is the whole thing of keeping crowd balls unique to baseball?

In many sports there is only one ball, or you have to give it back if it comes into the crowd.

Tennis uses dozens of balls per match, but they just get donated to various clubs and schools afterwards. I don’t think any ever become valuable (I may be wrong).

  9. On the flip side is the Philly Fan Dad who yanked the ball out of a woman’s hands just to give it to his kid. Kid got richly rewarded so got the wrong lesson there. And yes, I know what you think actually happened there, don’t bother.
