Miami Heat Just Pulled Off A MASSIVE Win & More Moves Could Be Coming Soon | Heat News

[Music] The Miami Heat signed Precious A Chua yesterday to a one-year non-G guaranteed deal. And I’m here to tell you that this was a massive success for the Miami Heat. And we’re going to talk about what roster moves have to come after this move, but the ones that likely will come after this move. I’m Nick Rolloff. This is the Heat Report by Chat Sport. But we’re going to start with why this was such a good move because the Heat needed a third big so so badly. We talked about it so often in July, in August, and into September on how the biggest hole on this Heat roster was not the fact that they don’t have a third star to pair with Adabio or Hero, but it’s the fact that they don’t have a third big man to work in and alongside with Bam and Kel Wear. Well, they finally addressed that by signing their former first round pick in 2020, Precious Chua. And by the way, he was the best free agent on the market at the big man spot. Like you could make the argument that Kai Jones would have been intriguing. Trey Lyles would have been interesting, but those two both signed overseas in Turkey and Real Madrid respectively. A Chua still out there on the market ready to roll. Yeah, that was the best possible option the Heat had and I’m glad they took advantage of it. more coming up here, but make sure you subscribe and have your notifications turned on because if you did, you would have been alerted when we dropped the breaking news video yesterday when Chua’s signing was announced. So, make sure you subscribe and for the 50% of the returning viewers we have on a monthly basis, make sure those notifications turned on. Only 12.9% of you have the noty bell clicked on to all. Change that. Let’s get to 13%. But I think Aua is a really good addition to this Heat team. Listen, over the last couple of years, he has had a decreased role for the Knicks and Raptors. Traded from Toronto to New York in the OGN and OB deal. Uh was the backup big in New York in 23-24 and then last season was that third big, but acted as the backup to Carth Towns as well until Milt Robinson returned. And then once Robinson did return, he was relegated to that third big and didn’t really see a lot of playing time in the postseason. But in limited opportunities, I think he flashed a lot. And I want to focus on his ability to rebound the basketball because that is the part of his game that is just the probably most consistent. And if you were to go to Aua and says what is his best best asset, it is his effort and rebounding ability. And I find it pretty impressive because he is not the biggest guy. Like yeah, when the Heat signed him, he was to be the backup big, but he’s 6’8 barefoot. He’s about 68 and 3/4 69 with shoes on. So it’s not like he’s a big time guy that dominates inside. No, he’s more of a small ball five or a four, but that 7 foot and 3/4 wingspan really helps him be disruptive defensively as well as on the glass. And that’s I mentioned the best part of his game. It’s his rebounding. Last year, if you look at his advanced numbers in terms of rebounding on three steps basket, um 86 percentile is an overall rebounder, 85th percentile in offensive rebounding and 84th percentile in defensive rebounding. That obviously accounts for the rebound percentage that you have when on the floor. So, it kind of makes it even for everybody no matter how many minutes you ultimately play. It just further illustrates that when a true is on the floor I don’t think you have to worry about his effort and I don’t think you really have to worry about being outrebounded whether he is playing alongside Bam alongside wear or playing as the small ball center and Bam and wear are both on the bench together for a small spurt of time when a shrew’s on the floor you usually will not be outrebounded that is why I’m a big fan of this move plus more to come here but I’m happy the heat brought back Precious I also hope that he has a better stint and longer stint in Miami this go around than he did when he got drafted out of Memphis in 2020. If you’re with me, type Y for yes. If you’re not, type N for no. I still think that I would have Bam, Yoic, and Wiggins be your starting front court with hero out for the first month because you just need more playmaking and shooting, and Yoic brings that with a good 610 frame. Yovic is actually bigger than Presto Chua heightwise. Not as physical and uh imposing as a Chua, but he will be valued coming off of the bench. And I mentioned it on yesterday’s instant reaction video. Eric Spolster just has so much lineup versatility now. Like there is no pressure to have Bam and Wear on the floor at all times together. You can stagger the minutes to where you have all three of the big man play together and all three of them could each be the solo big on the floor at some time too. I mentioned you could have just wear in front court pieces just Bam in front court pieces just precious combine them like it’s just so good. And I actually think Achua is an improved defender because we’ll go back to some of the advanced metrics on three steps basket again here. They ranked Preach Chua in the 75th percentile of NBA defenders just a year ago. And when they factor in defense, they have a combination of statistics and efficiency metrics that goes into their percentiles. It’s steals per game, blocks per game, defensive rebound percentage, and then defensive rating. So, you combine the four of those and it spits out the ranking of NBA defenders. And like I mentioned, it was in the 75th percentile. The point is he is much better than the bench bigs that you’ve had in the past. Like the Heat have always struggled to have a serviceable backup big or even just a third big. The backup bigs to Bam over the last five years have been Thomas Bryant, Cody Zeller, Dwayne Deadman, Meyers Leonard. It’s just been disaster after disaster after disaster. And I’ll tell you right now, first of all, Aua is your third big because your top two are obviously wear and bam, which is a vast improvement from what it’s been with those names I just mentioned. But heck, I would take the current version of Preston Aua as my backup big to the five names I just mentioned. So, the fact that Achua, who I think would be the best backup big you’ve had to BAM, when you factor in Bryant, Leonard, and the other names, is your third big, it just creates the best front court rotation. Miami has had at that big man spot really ever since Adabio entered the league as the Heat’s 14th overall pick in 2017. So yeah, this makes me pretty pretty happy. All right, we’re going to transition now from why I think Achua signing was a great success and makes me happy to what move could be coming next because the Heat do have too many players on their preseason roster. Remember, you get max 18 players during the regular season. 15 standard contracts, three two-ways. But for the preseason, you are allowed up to 21 players. It could be any combination of guys you want. It could be 15 standard, three two-ways, and three exhibit 10. It could be 14 standards, three two ways, and four exhibit 10. But prior to the signing, the Heat had 14 standards, two two-ways, and five exhibit 10 contracts. So either way you want to add it up, they had the maximum 21 players. Adding a Chua puts you at 22, which means Miami will have to wave a player, whether it is a standard contract guy like Terry Rosier, which we’ll get to in just a second, a two-way guy, or an exhibit 10 contract. Well, the most likely answer here is going to be an exhibit 10 guy. And the current five players that have an exhibit 10 contract, Dane Danja, a UDFA out of Memphis, who is on the Heat summer league team. Trevor Keels, who has been in the league a couple years, now bouncing around teams. Gabe Madson, who is a UDFA out of Utah, played on the Warrior summer league squad, Ethan Thompson, who we covered his signing earlier in the offseason, as well as Jir Young, who we covered earlier in the offseason. So, the Heat will likely get rid of one of these guys. We’re putting this video out on Thursday morning. We’re filming this Wednesday afternoon. If the signing and release was made official, we’ll have it updated short, so be on the lookout. But if it hasn’t happened yet, I think Dane Danja is the obvious pick here for a couple of reasons. One, Dan is a fascinating player. He is a very big human being, but I doubt that he would be able to be a rotational guy at any point in his career. He could showcase you some nice things, but I don’t see him as someone that can really develop and grow in this heat developmental system. But you look at the other four guys. Madson is a really good shooter that can play in the Heat system. We’ve seen those stories rise up the ranks in this developmental system before. Trevor Kees, former top prospect, played at Duke, bounced around the league. I would rather keep him and I’d rather keep Ethan Thompson who was like first team LG league last year. And Jamir Young, who put up a 40 plus uh point game in the summer league this year. So to me, I think the choice is obvious that it’s Danja. If you are going to get rid of one of the exhibit 10 guys, plus adding a big man to the preseason roster, it makes sense that you might just take a big man away from the preseason roster. Rounding off the show here in just a second, but take advantage. This Miami Heat blanket is on sale. The winter time is going to be here sooner rather than later. I want to highlight a quick date here. January 10th. It’s a very important date for the Miami Heat. And I actually tweeted about this yesterday, which is why you need to go follow me as well at nick_rolloff. But why is January 10th, 2026 so important for the Heat? Well, I mentioned earlier that a Chua’s contract is fully non-G guaranteed right now. Well, if he is on the roster past the date of January 10th, the Heat will have to guarantee his roster and that cap hit will ultimately take Miami over the luxury tax. So they could keep Aua on the regular season roster up until January 9th and then just say, “Eh, we don’t need precious anymore.” Wave them and nothing really happens. They don’t go over the luxury tax. But that date’s so important because it’s the same day as the entire $26.6 million Terry Rosier contract becomes fully guaranteed. We have outlined that he has $1.7 million that is not guaranteed and the Heat could wave him now and save the 1.7 mil guarantee the Achua contract and they would stay underneath the luxury tax. So the Heat could technically wait until January 9th and keep Rosier on the roster and wave him then to save that money and keep Achua on a fully guaranteed deal. So the Heat have options like waving Rosir to sign a Chua didn’t need to happen. Now they can ultimately drag this out, keep both of them and then make that official decision on who they want to keep past January 10th around that time. And the Heat will likely wait until that deadline to see how this season plays out. How does a Chua fit with this Heat team? Does Terry Rosier bounce back? Do the Heat even need a third big or can they get rid of pressure to Chua? Could they possibly make a trade early in the season in November or December to where they no longer need to wave one of the players? Like that is why the Heat will drag this out likely until early January. And maybe the best case scenario is that you play Terry Rosier earlier in the year. Like Tyler Herro is going to be out for the first month of the season with that ankle injury. So what if you play Rosier with the lack of guards you have? Like the guards you have on the roster right now is DaVon Mitchell. It’s Casper Yakonis, Drew Smith, and Rosier. When you talk about point guards, like that’s not a collective unit that provides you a lot of confidence. So maybe Rosier does see playing time early on. Maybe he plays really well. The FBA charges an investigation go away and Rosier now has trade value in December and January. and maybe you can get rid of him now rather than having to attach draft capital as a salary dump off. It’s very possible. Like I have a hard time believing and I know I have been extremely extremely crit critical of Terry Rosier. There’s no shying away from that. I think he’s was absolutely abysmal and horrific last year. But you mean to tell me in the course of one off season he went from the player in Miami you see on the left averaging 16 a game shooting 37% from three to the player on the right where he is incapable of being a rotational impact guy and he is one of the worst offensive players in the NBA. I have a hard time imagining that. Like is that 2023 24 Terry Rosier still in there? I’m not asking you to be that exact person. give me 16 a game. But how about you do give me 10 points off the bench and instead of instead of shooting 39% and 27%, you shoot 46% in 37% like he did in 2324. Because if he can be that type of efficient offensive creator and scorer off the bench like he was in 23 24, well then the Heat could absolutely flip his expiring contract, get underneath the luxury tax and key pressures at Jula and maybe even get some assets out of it. That’s the best case scenario for the Miami Heat. All that’ll do it for today’s show. Appreciate everybody sticking around and watching today’s episode. The Miami Heat added to the roster yesterday when Heat president Pat Riley signed Precious Achiuwa to a one-year, non-guaranteed vet-min contract. The Heat roster desperately needed a third big man to help fortify the frontcourt behind Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware. Heat Report host Nic Rohloff believes this is a GREAT move by the Heat front office with the glaring need for a big man on the Miami Heat bench. Heat rumors now focus on the corresponding Heat roster move that needs to take place. Miami has one to many players on the preseason roster, and the Achiuwa signing put them over the luxury tax. Waiving Terry Rozier is an option, but that doesn’t need to happen until January 10th, 2026. This Miami Heat news and rumors Youtube video has the latest Heat rumors and news!

  1. Im happy we signed Prescious. But there's no excuse for a 6 ft 8-inch big man to shoot less than 60% from the line. The easiest shot to make. He needs to get that number up to be an NBA big.
