Pirates vs. Reds Game Highlights (9/25/25) | MLB Highlights

Some late season adrenaline and tension at Great American Ballpark, but a difficult finish for the Reds here last night. How will they respond with a quick turnaround and just a handful of games on the regular season schedule? September baseball at its best. The Reds look to Nick Lollo. Yeah, Looo has to be the guy and these are mustwin situations. So, Lollo has to go out there and give this offense a chance and hopefully we can score some runs for him. digging in to get it started. Jared Triolo and we’re ready for baseball. Check swing. Did he go? Yes. Appeal to first. Strike three. Bit of a stare down there by Triolo. Looks like the bat head does get there. And Reynolds with a two-out single. That’ll bring up Andrew McCutchen who today becomes the third visiting player to play a 100 games here at Great American Ballpark. And McCutchen out in front lifts a high fly ball to left going back toward the corner. Benson to make the catch. Side retired. That’ll do it for the Pirates in the first. Braxton Ashcraft to be on the mount. His last outing in relief was really good against the Cincinnati Reds. He’ll be making his eighth start of the year. This guy’s got great stuff. Five pitch mix. Here’s Noel Vi Marte who had an inside the park home run yesterday. Oh, pretty pitch there. Curve ball. Yes, it was. Just drop it in. Two two count. Look at this thing right here. Rose Marte. Gavin Lux on with a two out single here in the first inning. That’ll bring Spencer’s tear to the plate. A bouncing ball toward Short and easy flip on to second gets the force and that’s that for Cincinnati in the first. Fam who snapped an 0 for27 yesterday ends up getting a hit here. Knocked to lead off the inning nonetheless. Just dropped in there and he’s aboard now. Joey Barton swinging a miss. Also has a very nice breaking board. Yeah, that front door breaking ball that is key when he’s really good in dominating hitters. See a lot of swings and misses over top of that front door breaking ball. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Got him with a breaking ball down and off or down and out of the zone. Threw him in but not in a spot where he could do anything with it. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Got him with a breaking ball down and in. Looo punches out three straight after the infield single. Nick York will bat for the first time. Be followed by Jared Triolo and Nick Gonzalez. Four straight strikeouts for Lollo. Start looking for that curveball inside. He decides to go with the change up away just away from Nick York. I believe there’s a little guessing going on. Top of the order. Triolo. to first base. Comp glove by Steer. This has the makings of a rather quick inning if Nick Lollo can get Nick Gonzalez. His sixth strike out of the day. That is a three up, three down third. Lollo seems to be finding his groove and Ashcraft has allowed the first two Reds to reach here in the third. So two on and nobody out for Noel V Marte who struck out looking in the first. There’s a swing and a miss. Marte chasing that away. Fast ball and he struck out both times today. One out. The only two punch outs early going for Ashcraft. Both Marte Gavin Lux with a base hit his first time. Hayes the lead runner at second. Fredle trails him at first. Backto back strikeouts. Got a word too. All breaking balls there at bat to Gavin Lux. Great execution from Braxton. Stayed in the zone at the bottom of the zone there. So here’s Spencer Steer. Ground ball third and Triolo. Great job by Braxton right there. Couple of strikeouts and then you got the ground ball. He’s looking for Reynolds has the only Pirates hit so far. Two balls, two strikes, the pitch. Straw came out. Seven strikeouts. The breaking ball is brilliant for Lollo this afternoon. Kind of thought that might be the case. We were talking about that earlier with the humidity. And Fam hits this one on the ground. A little more firm toward Short. Ellie moving to his left. Gloves and throws in plenty of time. Fam’s out. And that is one, two, three, fourth inning. Quick inning. Still no score. Reds and Pirates makes the catch and Ellie’s the first out here in the fourth inning. Here’s the two- two pitch. Struck him out looking. The curve ball from Ashcraft. Yeah, another good one. He’s thrown a bunch of good ones. Couple of them freezing guys for strike three. This one’s pretty hit up above the zone. Even Andrew Hart stands up a little bit. Nine drive base hit into left field. So, another base runner aboard for the Reds. Down on strikes. 5Ks today for Braxton Ashgra through four scoreless innings. Joey Bart will lead it off. Alexander Canario and Raphael Flores facing the lefty lido. Strike three called. Got him looking. frozen with a fast ball right at the top of the zone. That is eight for Nick Lollo. Check swing. He went. Yes, that’s nine strikeouts for Lollo. He has tied his second highest total of the season and it’s still just the fifth inning. Yeah, I believe the success he has had throwing all those strikes in the head of these hitters. Looks like they’re guessing right now. Lollo is cooking. Double digit strikeouts for the seventh time in the show. Ian Hayes will lead it off. Driven up the middle. Backhand York against the green off the bag. Infield hit for Hayes. And that’s backto back at bats now that Hayes has led off an inning with a hit. Does TJ Fredle trying to bunt Hayes up on the grass at third. First pitch shot to right center. [Applause] One hop to the wall. Windmill is out for Hayes. He lost the helmet. Fire comes to the plate. Save. Hayes home. The Reds ahead one to nothing. A perfect relay throw from Gonzalez. And I got to believe the Pirates are going to take a look at it. Pittsburgh is challenging the safe call at home, please. It’s a bit of a pig pin cloud of dust picked up from the dirt. You don’t see his hand as much as you just see a bunch of chalk flying in here. I think that’s making it more difficult to decipher. They’re probably trying to find out a way to to overturn it. Do the Reds have the lead? After review, the call on the field is overturned. And the runner is out. This doesn’t retain her challenge. Keeps the game nothing when the Pirates win the challenge. I’m shocked. I mean, they must have been able to zoom in and somehow sync these replays up. Here’s Noel Elvie Marte with the runner at second. A one out. Beyond short base hit later break for Freedom. Canario just now gathers. Windmill is on. Relay to the plate. Freedom scores. Gets away. Marte up to second. The Reds have their run and another man in scoring position. Well, they just keep coming at you. Belby Marte right back up the middle and TJ Fredo has to go back because that line drive possibly gets caught this time. Safe easily at the dish and they have Marte down at second base on the errant throw to the plate. Three consecutive hits for the Red to open this fifth inning. Here’s Lux. Grabbed it sharply and throw B. Wave is on for Marte. Rattles it right. Throw in is cut. Marte scores standing. Gavin Lux with the lash. It’s two nothing Reds. Decided to go with the slider that time instead of the curve ball. Gavin Luck sitting there waiting for something other than that curve ball and taking advantage. And so that’s how it goes. Four straight hits in the fifth. The pitching change made in the fifth. Reds two. Pirates nothing. Kyle Nicholas is coming on the pitch. Two outs. Lux still at first. Here’s Ellie Dela Cruz. Swing and a miss. Struck him out on a curveball. Nicholas strands the inherited runner. And so Triolo will reach on a fieldielder’s choice. He’s at first with one out for Nick Gonzalez. Check swing. Did he go? Yes. 11 strikeouts for Lollo. Yeah, that breaking ball is definitely in the heads of these Pirates. A lot of in between ground ball diving stop at first. Steer to his feet. Takes it himself. Three unassisted. Another scoreless inning in the book for Nick Gluolo. Spencer Steer just continues to impress. I thought there was no chance. Nacho for two today against the lefty lido. He has tied his careerhigh. A dozen strikeouts for Lollo. Look at the location of this front door breaking ball. Seen that today, haven’t we? We really truly believe that Ledo is in the minds of these hitters. They do not want to get beat by that pitch and they can’t lay off. And time is called by the catcher, Jose Trevinho. And he is out to the mound. Remember, Lola went the distance against the Nationals in DC back in July. It took him 105 pitches. He hasn’t hit a 100 pitches. They are calling out. They’re calling out. He’s done. Oh boy. And I I don’t know what it was. Leo’s coming out. The Reds fans give him a standing ovation. A dominant display by Lollo. Two down. And now Joey Bart who struck out both times against Lolo. Swing and a miss. And he struck him out. Three strikeouts on the day for Joey Bart as Ashcraft puts him in the books. So that’ll bring Gavin Lux to the plate with nobody aboard. Two outs. Here’s Gavin Lux diving stopped by Flores at first. He made a great play. Snaring that liner from Lux. Spencer Horwitz pinch hitting here. Had a great day at the plate yesterday to right center field. Spencer Horowitz is on it these days. Another double. Professional at bat. Every time he comes to the plate, he gives you a professional at bat. Now Sinsky representing the tying run. First pitch to first. Steer with the backhand that advances Horwit. Sant covers. What a way. At least a productive out for Jack. Pinch hitting. Nick York is coming up. Swung on bounce to third. Reynolds will score. Hayes fields the high hopper and gets it on to first for the out. RBI for York. It’s two to one. Well, a productive couple of at bats for Sinsky and York following that leadoff double. Alio Pagan has never had 30 saves in a year. He bids for number 30 right now. Nick was 0 for three against Nick Looo. Flips a fly ball right field. There is Marte right tracks. One down. Pagan’s command was not clean last night. Fired to scoreless inning, but did so on 26 pitches. Ryan Reynolds has singled. He’s one for three. Strike out. Bounce to first. He swings highf fly right field. Marte all the way back. Leaps at the wall. He caught it. He takes away a game tying home run. The biggest play from Mart in the outfield. He saves the day. What a grab. No Elvie Marte. He was way up there. Wow. That made my heart skip a beat. I mean, there’s no doubt it was gone. Yeah, that was a home run. He went way over the wall to get it. Goodness. Almost snapped his shoulder out of socket. Two outs. Andrew McCutchen’s up. McCutchen to right. Marte Andrew again. He got it. The Reds close out their home slate of the regular year with a win. They top the Pirates two to one.

  1. Lost 2 out of 3 to Pirates should have never happened , so the Reds even a 1/2 game out unless they beat the Brewers will not get in
SO they seriously need to improve their hitting and fast !!!
