🔴LIVE 🔴Cleveland Guardians VS Detroit Tigers/ September 25 /MLB THE SHOW 25
to us. MLB the show has action out of the AL Central. It’s the Detroit Tigers taking on the Cleveland Guardians. First pitch coming at you right after the break. Just about ready to roll here. And today’s starter, Gavin Williams. Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. A lot more guys striking out today, but when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where, yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and miss stuff in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. Parker Meadows leading things off and takes a strike. [Applause] popped up. Arius has a beat on it. Pulls it in and there’s one away. And now the Tigers line up for manager AJ Hinch. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus, Carrie Carpenter. Well, Boog, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position, are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Glabber Torres now in the box comes up empty with a swing there. Sway at a highf fly ball well struck way back there and it’s gone. Home run. He muscles that one out the opposite way. His 17th of the year. And just like that, they’re out front. It’s one- nothing. Two pitches, two swings. That one for a home run. Looking to be aggressive all the way. And it paid off for him in a big way. That’s just a great feeling as a hitter. You let the ball travel, tracked it pretty nicely. He’s almost beat there, but he gets the bat head in time and it’s true enough to stay fair. I mean, that’s a good feeling when you can hit an opposite field home run. And he did it right there. Carrie Carpenter stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. Williams, 25 years old, a former first round pick in 2021. And that’s downed away. Williams maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run. Chris, yeah, it seems that way. You know, guys, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitched. They’re not trusting their stuff. Late on that fast ball. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? Well, partner, every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show. Uh so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. One out, base is empty. He’s dealing with a great two strike hitter right here. The strikeout is not automatic. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That’s out number two. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch. When a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity and a base hit into right. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Batting fifth, left fielder Riley Green. Here’s Riley Green. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Next offering is fouled back. Torqulson off of first with two away. [Applause] misses. Two and two. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Two outs. Not close with that one. And it’s three and two. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. That ends the frame. Solo shot for Detroit this inning. It’s an early one- nothing lead. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here with my pal Singi and taking the ball for Detroit, Terrick Scooble. What should we keep an eye on here? Well, this guy’s just been filthy out there on the mound. Hitters batting under 200 against him and they’re just having a hard time squaring up anything, doing any type of damage. The only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surrenders a rare home run. But outside of that, it’s going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today. Stepping in, Steven Quan delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Ball one there. One ball, one break. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swings and misses. Pulled the string on the change up. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Next to hit, Anel Martinez Perez pulls that one down and there’s two down. Here’s the Guardians lineup now. They’re dealing with a top level arm on the mound. So, this figures to be a tough matchup for him. What’s the key to the offense today, Singy? Well, Boo, I think when you got a guy that’s this talented on the mound, you got to find ways to disrupt his rhythm, make him uncomfortable a little bit. The guys that can handle the bat and perhaps, you know, bunt bunt for a base hit, get him moving off the mound. If you’re in the box and he seems to be just in a flow, step out, mess up his timing, somehow try to get in his head a little bit. And then when he does come in the zone, you may only get one pitch, you better not miss it. Next offering misses down and away. And Singi, as a team, you need to make the most of the very few opportunities he’s going to give you, right? Absolutely. And and you know, if you don’t get to guys like this a lot of times early, once they really settle in, it’s going to be the later innings that they hand that ball over to a reliever, if they do at all. Man at first and next will be the cleanup hitter, David Fry. outside low and it’s one and0. All right. Hit hard to the ground and up the middle. Base hit. They stopped the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. Backto back base hits. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Gabrielle Arias. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. Two on, two outs. Next offering upstairs. Change up on the corner and that’s a strike. Man, that pitch was dotted. So much talent on display when this guy’s out there on the hill. Missed with a change up and the count is two and two. He’s gone off speed. And he needs to elevate here with two strikes out of the zone. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Went back to the change up and it was successful. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly he’s happy with those results. Second inning set to go now. Here’s the Detroit catcher Dylan Dingler. Turned on but foul wide of third. Late swing fouled all. Struck him out looking. Well, he went up there trying to be aggressive, that’s for sure. Hacking at those first two pitches, but clearly that last one fooled him. He could have been sitting on something else entirely, but you want to be able to adjust on 0 and two and at least get a swing off when it’s in the zone. Maybe choke up, maybe spread out your stance a little bit. You got to give the guy credit on the mound though. He went right after him. Now at the plate, Zack McKinstry. That’s a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Batting eight, right fielder Wel Perez. Wel Perez getting ready to hit right through there for a strike. Man at first, one away. Check on the runner. McKinstre dives back in safely. Next offering is fouled back. A healthy cut. Tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball. Here’s the O2. Swings through that and it’s a strikeout. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Trey Sweeney the next to hit. That misses. And that’s ball one. Two outs. And another ball. Next pitch off the play and that’s ball three. Let’s go Cleveland. So now two on and two outs. Not what he wanted to do right there. Boog. That keeps this inning alive. Puts a runner into scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead. Back to the top of the Detroit order and stepping in is the speedy Parker Meadows. He’s 0 for one. First pitch misses. One sight. Just missed. Tough spot right here. Couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. And a ground ball to first. Fair ball. Runner around third. One runs in. Sweeney rounds third. Headed for the plate. The relay safe. He beats it and they’re up by three. Well, he was a little off balance. He got the front foot down, but was so great at keeping the hands back and allowed him still to get good wood to this baseball. Big one there as he drives in a couple of runs. Here comes Glabber Torres. He’s already homerred in this game. Foul ball there. Rudder at second. Two down here in the top of the second. Lifted in the air out to left. Quan settles underneath it and that is that. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. It’s now 3 nothing. You’re dialed into the show. Back here in Cleveland. Here’s a big power threat. Kyle Mansardo. He’s sort of your typical power hitter. Wouldn’t necessarily call him a three true outcome guy, but he’s in there to hit home runs. Yeah, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Fans dig the long ball, bro. And there’s the strike. A three-0 lead is great, but you can’t get too comfortable. Got to stay aggressive, keep attacking hitters, try to cruise through this ball game. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. 99 mph to finish him off. Typically that high fast ball if it’s close to the top of the strike zone, a hitter, if he’s prepared for it, can get to it. But that one just had that little jump at the end, which indicates there’s a good spin rate on it and it didn’t decrease in velocity as that hitter’s internal clock would expect it to. And that’s why you see the swing and miss. John Kenzie Noel will hit next. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. One down. Base is empty. And a foul ball. The lefty ready. And a 1-1. And there’s a ball [Applause] and a popup right side. Foul territory. Come on now. Torqulson brings it in. Out number two. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Brian Rochio. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When he elevates, guys aren’t touched it. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. One ball, two strike. Next one misses and the count now even up. I thought he’d bite right there. bows it back with two strikes. Two outs. Base is empty. Got him swinging. Guardians fail to score. They trail in this one three nothing. onto the third inning. And the batter now, Carrie Carpenter. Williams back to work. There’s a swing and a drive and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. Safe at second with a leadoff double. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. As soon as that one shot off his barrel, he was thinking extra bases. Really nice job of getting the bat out front, but not hooking around it or rolling over it. Just kept the swing on plane and smoked that thing into the gap. manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the Guardians bullpen. Gavin Williams is done and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Now on the bump, Slade Sakone. And he’s had a struggle so far this year. As you can see, the inflated erra looking to bring that down a little bit right here. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Spencer Torqulson up now for the Tigers. One for one with a single so far. Swings through that one for strike one. Let’s go man at second. That one’s in there and the count is 0 and two. [Applause] Good eye in that spot. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Oh, that slider down and away. It’s just kind of a slow death of two strikes you’re looking to protect and halfway to the plate you know you’ve committed and you know you’re going to have no chance of touching it. Tell you what, sometimes you just have to tip your cap. Now it’s going to be Riley Green 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. swings and misses and it’s 0 and two. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Tanner by getting loose out there. Haron warming up as well. Carpenter leads off second with one gone in the inning. [Music] Stays alive. kicks and deals. Foul ball still 0 and two. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Runner at second here. One gone. Next offering popped in the air right field. Ramirez settles under it and makes the grab. And there’s two down. Now batting catcher Dylan Dingler. Dylan Dingler up now for the Tigers. Struck out looking in his first at bat. There’s a strike. [Applause] All right, Cleveland. One and one in the air. right field. Pretty well struck. That’s back there. Long gone. His 14th of the year. And they add a pair. It’s five zip. That’s a swing that’ll boost the win probability for sure. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. And now it’s going to be Zack McKinstry. And a curb misses outside. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. in this situation ahead 20. He’s put himself in a really good spot. Two down. Nobody on that one fouled off. Right side hard hit. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Detroit adds two on this homer and the lead is now 5 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show as we go to the last of the third. And now the veteran catcher Austin Hedges. This is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively, Chris. And when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. I was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense, especially at a premier position, and that’s what he does. And there’s one down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. So, the lineup flips over. So, in now for Cleveland, Steven Quan. Pitch misses. And that is ball one. The hitting’s going to come around. He’s going to figure it out. But right now, his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense. Pitch misses there and it’s two and0. [Applause] That clips a corner. Swinging a foul straight back. Out to short. Sweeney safe at first as they can’t make the play. That’s a play you expect your shorts stop to make pretty much every time. Pretty routine. Hard to tell if he didn’t get a great grip on it or the mechanics on him just broke down. But that gives this offense an extra out to work with. Digging in Anel Martinez. He’s 0 for one. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. His 12th of the season and they throw a pair on the board. It’s 52. They wasted no time in that at bat. Swinging at the first pitch and he punished it. [Applause] Oh, that one got in the jetream on a line drive. We saw the numbers on the backs of the jerseys of the outfielders, which is usually bad news. And all of a sudden, they’re back in this ball game. Here’s Jose Ramirez, and he’s already singled in this game. In the air, foul off first. [Applause] Torqulson makes the catch. And there are two down. It’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run. not allowing it to stay in the head, but going to work at the next hitter. And a tough one at that. Two outs, space is empty. Now the third baseman, David Fry, a single his first time. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. Two outs, swinging a miss as he was late. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just got to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. This homer brings the Guardians a bit closer. It’s 52. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Welcome back. And now on the mound to start the fourth, Tim Harrenon gets an opportunity to square off against his former team. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out a little extra jacked up right here. So digging in, Wel Perez. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Perez measures 5′ 10 in 25 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic. And another ball inside ball three. And there’s the automatic drilled in the air high and deep right field way back there. And that one is off the wall around second now as they still don’t have it. and he makes it into third with a leadoff triple. Well, that’s how you respond. Leadoff man comes up, gets into scoring position. Now, there are several ways that they can get this run across. And next up for the Tigers, Trey Sweeney. The walk and a run scored his first time. Just missed. If you’re the pitcher, you’ve got to go right at this guy. It’s the number nine hitter in the lineup. You can’t be afraid of contact in this situation. Tulo and it’s ball three. Perez, the lone runner, stands at third with no outs. That’s in there. Three balls, two strikes. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. hanging in there pretty good against the lefty and ball forward two aboard. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk. Very gritty. Parker Meadows. And now here’s a speed threat outfielder Parker Meadows. There you see how he’s doing down the stretch with his August and September splits. out there to center. Martinez makes his way towards it. Makes the grab on the run. Runner tags for home. The throw is offline and he’s in to score. It’s 62. Oh, that’s a quality at bat right there. You know the situation. You need something in the air and deep enough. And that’s exactly what he did. Good pass to the baseball. Glabber Torres up to hit. He’s already homered here in this one. And a breaking ball misses outside. One run across in the frame so far. Top half of inning number four. Runner on the go. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Martinez on his way over and there are two outs. So, a man aboard and next to hit for Detroit, Carrie Carpenter. One for two. breaking ball misses down and away. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. Two outs right through there for a strike. One and two here. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. A run, a hit, and a man left. We’re midway in the fourth. Tigers six and the Guardians two. Back now at Progressive Field, John Chabi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Gabrielle Arias. Ripped to short. Throw on to Torqulson. One out in the bottom of the fourth. Now batting the designated hitter, Kyle Manardo. Stepping up for the Guardians. Kyle Manzardo struck out swinging his first time. Oh, look at the stop and very nicely done for the out. Now batting first base John Kenzie Noel. John Kenzie Noel digs in for the Guardians. He’s got pop, which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field, but he can jump you if you make a mistake. And the first pitch misses for ball one. There’s a strike. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Started after the one-two pitch. Appeal to first. No swing. That’s off the inside corner and the count’s full. Good slider down and in. Can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. swings here and blasts one left field. That’s back there onto the home run porch in left. Gone and they inch closer. It’s 6-3. Things might get pretty interesting if they keep connecting on pitches like that. [Applause] He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the loft and gets the home run. So, two down. Ryan Rochio digs in for the Guardians. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. And that extends the inning. Well, no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it right on time. Good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. And maybe they’ve got something going here. Trying to get back into this one. Hedges the next to hit takes ball one. The 10 tap foul at the plate in the air to left center. Meadows sizing this one up. He’s got it. And that is that one scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now 63. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Tanner by well he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra. So this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. And now the first baseman, Spencer Torlson. Spencer Torlson. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Has room and he makes the catch. Really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Now batting leftielder Riley Green. Here’s the left fielder Riley Green. Bowl for two in this one. Two up, two down. Now batting catcher Dylan Dingler. Two down, base is empty. Now here’s the Detroit catcher Dylan Dingler inside. just missed. Two balls, no strikes to count. Two balls, no strikes. Just missed. And it’s ball four. He missed down low. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. pretty much gifted him first base with a quick free pass. Mckinry, runner at first with two away. And now the DH Zack McKinstry. Fast ball in the corner at the knees and it’s a strike. Boo, the runner at first, needs to be careful right here. He’s dealing with a pickoff artist on the mound in the dirt. The 1-1 is fouled off. Fights that one away. Still one and two. And that’s outside. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. And he grounds one to the right side. Rochio. That’s the third out. Tigers leave one, but they still lead it 6-3. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound, Raphael Montero. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Quan stands in now and watches strike one. Now one and one. Smoke to right, but he’s got it. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. Martinez in the box with one away as he takes ball one. Swing and a miss and a count even one and one. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. Explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. Next offering is fouled back. One down, base is empty. Off the mark there. Now two and two. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So a man aboard now with one away. There we go. Now that nice swing to drive that pitch up the middle. Could have easily bit out in front on the off speed and pulled off of it, but he was looking to use the big part of the field and he executed his plan perfectly. [Applause] [Applause] Ramirez lays off down low as he digs in for the third time and delivers outside. lined into left center and that should be extra bases. Martinez around third. He’ll score. Well, they call that an advantage count for a reason. You’re so much more likely to get something you can handle. Pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap. And I’m sure he’s going to be watching that one back on video because that’s the kind of swing you want to bottle. So many positives that led to that knock. Now, a huge at bat in this game coming up. And now David Fry [Applause] swinging a foul out of play. Tying run at the plate and that one fouled off. Ah, he doubled up on the off speed there. We talk about the power fastball, but he’s working a little differently here. Swings and misses. Struck him out. Slider got him for strike three. Well, clearly just anxious right there and understandably so. In an 02 count, you feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out. That’s just one of those pitches where it’s not over the plate, but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand, by the time you realized it wasn’t going to be in the zone, it’s too late to hold up your sway. Arius in the box now takes strike one. All in one and that is out of play. Montto fires. Ripped on the ground to second. Torres fires over to first. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. It’s a two-run lead now at 64. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top six. And now Wel Perez. By back to work. bounce to the right side throws to first in time and a quick out number one now batting short stop Trey Sweeney. So up next, Trey Sweeney. [Music] And that is cut on and missed. And that is strike one. Action in the pen down there. Parker Messik, the rookie left-hander, appears to be getting going. Sabrowski also getting ready. He swings and fouls one off. Next pitch is outside. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fast ball, but for whatever reasons he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. Look out. And it hit him. He had him one, two, and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. Parker. Parker Meadows up now for the Tigers. Singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. That pitch gets the corner. Strike one. And I would say that most great defensive outfielders, it’s kind of natural. There is some work that you can do to it uh to improve your game, but ultimately you either have it or you don’t. There’s one guy that I can think about, Boog, who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial gold glover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. But he’s a guy when you watch him play, you would imagine that that’s all he ever played in his life was the outfield. Had a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. But that kind of velocity, an elevated fast ball, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. Here is Glabber Torres. He had a big swing for these guys way back in the first inning. Yeah, Boo. He didn’t waste any time in this one. The solo shot really got his team going and he’s looking for more right here. Runner on the go. Pitch misses. And that’s a stolen base. Not even close. Yeah, I like being aggressive right there with two outs. It’s kind of a classic steel situation. You get thrown out, no big deal. That guy at the plate leads off the next inning. Now a single to the outfield can push a run across. Sweeney at second with two down. That’s a little bit high. And that’s ball three. Yeah, some guys just have instincts, right? I mean, that’s the way it goes. We talk about Larry Walker, the Hall of Famer, and his instinct on the bases, despite the fact that he didn’t play a ton of baseball as a kid. Swinging a foul straight back. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Tied him up on a fast ball inside. One left for Detroit. They still lead it though 6-4. We’re back. And on the mound is the closer Will Vest. Save opportunity for him right here. And he’s their guy. Time to lock this one down and get out of here with a W. Now it’s the DH Kyle Manzardo. Kyle, remember Mark Kat was a real good defensive outfielder. Good instincts, not great speed. And a big swing and a miss. Yeah. And I figured you would get Kat into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. You won. Now, Boo, this is a real tough place for visiting teams to come in and close out ball games for a win. Breaking ball misses down and away. [Applause] knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. 2-2 fouled off and they’ll do it again. That one ripped. That’s back there on its way. And it’s gone. That’s worth the price of admission. His 27th home run of the season. It’s 65. That’s exactly what this crowd wanted to see in this spot. He blasted that pitch. [Applause] Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside. Fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. And here’s the first baseman, John Kenzie Noel. First pitch misses. looking to get the tying run on base. That’s down and in. A slider missed. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Goes down looking. Oh, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. and it’s a hitter. It’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. Hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. And up next for Cleveland, Brian Rochio. That one finds the zone. at strike one. A one run lead there and the home team trying to pull it out. That missed by a lot and the count is one and one. just missed. Swing and a miss. That is strike two. When you throw a fast ball by a guy like that, I imagine it’s got to feel incredible. Look for him to throw it again at some point. Come on. Sets him down looking. Now only one out remaining. Well, big strike out right there. And maybe a little controversial with the call. I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound. No question about it. It’s not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that. And I’m sure there’s some chirping going on from the dugout making it clear that wasn’t his best call behind the play today. Last out for the Guardians in this one. Austin Hedges stands in. That’s in there. 0 and one. [Applause] vest is just one strike away. Battling here as he fouls it away. line drive and that’s a fair ball. Takes the turn. He’s digging for second as the tying run is forced to stop at second. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. A chance now to even the score and maybe extend this game. manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Will Vest departs and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So, the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. And we’ve got ourselves a pitching change, Chris Paddock. And I can’t imagine any save is an easy one. You’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can. So it’s always high stress. Let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out. So runner at second, two down. Here’s the Cleveland leadoff hitter Steven Quan. Swings and misses. Strike one. So the tying run at second fought off foul. Got him. And that’s the ball game. Well, a three pitch save. This guy might feel cheated a little bit. gets in the ball game, wants to show off his arsenal, and really didn’t get that opportunity, but I think he’ll take it. Whenever you can get that save and do it efficiently, he’ll be ready to pitch tomorrow. 65 the final here today for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
