I don’t wanna jinx anything but I’m feeling okay about this so far….
I think it’s easy as fans to just say “cut the checks and get out of the way”, but our most recent title was built on decisions made by Wyc. Ainge had a deal with the Nets, but Wyc told him to get more in the deal…and he did. He’s the one that hired Brad. We under performed in the playoffs and Wyc told Brad that he couldn’t bring the same team back. It was in that dismantling we created the title team.
In the end, good owners are part of making good basketball decisions. Mavs just traded Luka away for peanuts because the owner allowed the GM to make the decisions and just cut the checks.
You don’t want the micromanaging, like you get with someone like Ranadive in Sacramento, but it’s vital to have a pulse on what the team needs and ultimately setting the direction the team should take.
