A whole lot was touched upon today in his introduction press conference as the new majority owner of the Celtics franchise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krH4tDvgAGw

Between a new WNBA team, power structure in decision making, future spending, and more, there was a lot covered. How well do you all think it went and what are your takeaways? How do you feel about him….confident and assured, wait-and-see…any concerns?

  1. I don’t trust them and no one really should until we get into the thick of it tbh

Between that weirdly structured sale, tons of PE influence, and Wyc going out like Cuban I just don’t like the vibes at all.

In a way the Tatum injury really let some pressure off of them and allowed them to move tons of salary while punting this season for a logical reason. Next years off season is gonna be big.

I hope I’m wrong but I’m worried we’re going from an ownership group that we didn’t ever really have to worry about meddling to one that is funded and controlled by private equity. We’ve heard all the shit about Chisholm being a ‘north shore guy’ and a C’s fan but the dude grew up in Georgetown and came from money lol this isn’t like you or I stepping in.

I hope I’m wrong. But you should never trust billionaires lol

  2. He’s a private equity guy. The bottom line is always money, no matter how much of a fan he is, where he grew up, it doesn’t matter.

My concern is outside of him, the pressure from his partners to cut costs is going to be strong.

I worry they end up a middle of the road team unwilling to take by salary swings

  3. Anyone else find it odd that he referred to TD Garden as “Boston Garden” several times?

I mean I like the old name better, but teams tend to be pretty ruthless about enforcing these naming deals with media and partners, let alone from their own mouths. It’s a very specific choice for a guy who has been that in the weeds with the organization’s business side.

  4. I don’t think there’s any point in catastrophizing about worst case scenarios or whatever TF people here are anxious about w this guy when it’s ultimately completely out of our control.

Chisholm has yet to say anything that scares me or makes me think he’s gonna make significant changes to how the Celtics operate. as long as Stevens and Zarren are leading the front office I have confidence that we will remain a well-run franchise going forward

  5. You dont become a billionaire without both being a huge piece of shit and insanely lucky.

I dont trust anyone who owns a sports franchise

  6. “When I look back those I.T. teams were some of my favorites”.

OHHHHHHH BOY, WE GOT A CHEAP FUCKING OWNER.

  7. Listened to the press conference with an open mind, really wanted to like Bill Chisholm… I don’t know much about him but I hate the way he talks. He seemed really nervous, everything out of his mouth was wishy-washy and indirect. It doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence.

  8. team is already gutted and set up to lose so I dont know what anyone could really be worried about

  9. As long as he lets the basketball people do their jobs I’m not concerned. A team one year removed from a championship does not need a new owner coming in overhauling things.

  10. The sad thing is that it makes the most sense for his venture capital group (in the short term and only the short term) to cut payroll, move the team out to the suburbs, and punt on competing for a championship until Brad Stevens has been long gone. We all think we would do better as a Celtics owner and do the right things but this guy is most likely to adhere to the bottom line and shortsightedly diminish the Celtics’ value.

  11. It’s too soon to tell. I know losing Jrue and KP was tough, but it was going to happen even if ownership didn’t change. No ownership group would even consider paying that much in luxury tax (and having a bunch of 2nd apron restrictions) unless the team was heavily favored to win the championship and that wasn’t going to happen with the JT injury plus how much parity there is right now. Of course Chisholm hasn’t done anything that shows he is a good owner either, we just have to wait to see. But the fact that Wyc and Brad are staying is a good sign. I don’t think they would stick around if Chisholm started acting like Vivek, Ishbia, the Adelsons, etc.
