Rob Pelinka announces that the Lakers have extended JJ Redick's contract coming into the season. A big vote of confidence from the organization to the second-year coach.

  1. Lakers new owner DENIES LeBron opportunity to be player coach in recent BLOW to the superstar’s EGO

  2. They reportedly gave him a 4-year deal last year after Hurley turned down their 6-year offer.

    I guess they’re giving him the full Hurley now.

  3. The world of NBA coaching contracts makes no sense to me lol he JUST signed a 4 year deal last summer. Why would he need an extension one year later with 3 whole years still left on the contract??

  4. Good. I like JJ if, for nothing else, his crazy outbursts. It shows he cares deeply and gets frustrated when he can’t figure it out. That’s the kind of person who will eventually figure it out: he has the energy, passion, and intelligence to get there.

  5. I mean, with everything that happened with the Lakers last season, he still managed to win 50 games. He earned it.

  6. If Lakers fall short again this year, I’ll laugh and laugh again when fans demand his head on a silver plate

  7. Im convinced jj is our guy. Like he’ll be here for 10 plus years if he wants to keep coaching. Special guy. Still an extension 1 year in is a little strange. We had him for 3 more years.

  8. Well deserved. Painful R1 loss aside, getting to 50 wins in a season during which:

    1. The biggest trade ever happened to his team;
    2. The squad was severely unbalanced for half the season without a starting-caliber 5;
    3. The team went through an extreme gauntlet of a mid/late season schedule, which resulted in a lot of injuries to key players, many different lineups cobbled together, and a good number of games being punted, and;
    4. He had to learn on the fly as a rookie coach dealing with three superstars in Bron, AD, then Luka, along with other personalities like Dlo, Knecht, etc.

    Is a real accomplishment. If we zoom out, he outperformed basically every expectation as the rookie coach of the most scrutinized team in the world. He’s passionate and clearly knows ball. Something I was super impressed by is how he made our fringe two-way players, like Goodwin and Jemison, useful.

    Does he have room for improvement? Obviously. I think the playoffs, especially the game when he played the starting five for an entire half, showed quite a bit of inexperience, but at the same time we were stuck with a pretty sad rotation for a playoff series. I’m excited to see how he improves this season with a better, more balanced team and healthier players.

  9. JJ is one of those guys that will succeed at anything he does. He may be an asshole, but sometimes assholes will win and win good. I’m happy for JJ and I rather have him than 50% of the current NBA head coaches. LOL

  10. I hope they get JJ some veteran coaching assistances. I really respect his drive, but passion can’t beat out experience in the short term. And the Lakers’ offense last season rarely felt as efficient as it should be given the talent. They were spamming iso far too often through the playoffs.

  11. This sub was salivating at the thought of JJ failing. The comments when he was announced as coach were hilarious

  12. Hes a good coach. Still things to learn especially from the playoffs last year but some of that boils down to roster as well. But a solid guy and the team likes him

  13. lol really? just like that? A bit premature imo, I thought he did a good job in the regular season, but the playoffs were pretty daunting.

  14. Hilarious how the tune has changed. Everyone went from saying the LeBron is running the Lakers to now JJ is a good HC and not crediting LeBron.

    Imagine if they would’ve been respectful to the other guy LeBron hand delivered to them (T Lue) in 2019.
