John Harbaugh on Falling to the Lions | Baltimore Ravens

we’re going to be disappointed in when we watch that tape. Things we got to get better at. Our focus right now has got to be toward toward Kansas City. Uh and that’s what we’re going to do. Get ready for that game and uh get ready to go play it. What questions do you have? John, I know you have a much more detailed answer when you watch the film, but just out there watching the run defense, what do you think was the biggest problem? Well, I mean, yeah, I don’t I’m not going to be able to give you the biggest problem. I just The biggest problem was we didn’t play good run defense. I mean, we didn’t as a as a defense complete. We didn’t do it. And uh that that’s not going to be good enough. There’s nobody in that locker room that thinks that’s good enough. That’s disappointing. That’s bad run defense. And that’s not who we are. It cannot be who we are. It’s just it’s not going to be good enough. It’s not going to be acceptable. And uh it’s got to be better. John, specifically, how how you feel like the absences of Nomi and Kyle? I I don’t really have those measurements right now. You know, it’s hard to measure that at this point. Uh, but you play with the guys that are out there and the guys that are out there are good enough to do it. We as coaches got to figure it out and we got to get it uh get it done. Do you have any update on Nambdi’s health? I do not. John, what do you think they were doing on Lamar? Was it a spy situation that was giving you guys some problems offensively or uh, you know, I don’t think you could just put it in one category. I mean, we we threw the ball pretty good and we we Lamar made some extended plays. He made some ontime throws and, you know, trying to move around in the pocket and make some plays. They got us on some sacks when you’re trying to throw the ball like that at the end of the game, too. So, I’m not sure what your question is really, but uh they play good defense, you know, and we were competing on offense. You know, we didn’t run the ball as well as we wanted to either. That that had a lot to do with it. I think uh I’d like to see us run the ball better. John, last week um you know, you guys were pretty physical. It seemed like this week lines were pretty physical with both on both lines, defensive and offensive. Um, did you did you feel like they were just more physical up front there? Yeah, I’m not really putting words and terms on it. Um, I just think we can play better than we did for sure. John, and we need to play better than we did. Sorry, Derek Henry’s been able to take care of the ball throughout his career to this point this year. Fumbling has been an issue. I mean, what do you even say to him considering this hasn’t been the norm for him? Yeah. Um, it hasn’t been. And, uh, I don’t I don’t think it’ll be going forward, but we got to get it fixed. I mean, that was that was kind of a a blind shot there. I thought he had the ball in good position. You know, I thought the defender got a good look at it, though, because it was kind of a retrace cut back play. So, um, a little bit the perfect storm, but still, I mean, we just want to protect the football, you know, all our guys do, and we got to we got to do it. We got to be good at it. John didn’t golf tonight. I can’t hear you. Didn’t sack golf tonight. the pass rush especially felling in critical third downs didn’t really seem to alter his pocket just how much did you wish that you maybe did you try to send more pass rush more blitzers and and Matt DK’s absence yeah we’ll go back and look at the the number you know the calls and we sent some number of fiveman rushes we had a couple sixman rushes um we got to get better pass rush I mean there’s no doubt about it I mean to your point you know that’s that’s not going to be good enough ever so Um, we got to figure it out. We got to have an answer for that. John, when you think back over the years, can there be a value in a loss like this that sort of forces you to confront a lot of things about what you’re doing? Yeah, I mean, that’s always life. We we’ve had that conversation here. But right now, I think we just got to get we got to go to work on the things we need to get better at and get ready to play Kansas City. You know, we got Kansas City, then we got a tough team, then we got a tough team, then we got a tough team coming up. So, the next tough team is Kansas City. We just played a tough team. That’s a good football team we just played. Okay. So, um, we go to work on the next tough team we’re going to play and try to find a way to get that win. And that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to keep it simple, lock in on that, and go to work. How concerned, how concerned are you with some of the goal to go situations? I mean, third drive that in the first half you guys are at the one yard line on third down and I mean, is it play calling? I mean, just what did what did you Well, I’m going to see the tape and if it what it was, I don’t know, you know, until I see the tape. Um, try to put the ball in the end zone, you know, as we’re trying to do that for sure. We didn’t get it done in that one particular drive. I appreciate the fact that our, you know, our defense got got the stop, got the ball back, and scored on the next drive. So, that was good. Um, but you want to score when you’re at the one yard line, that’s for sure. John, when you punted with about four and a half minutes left, was was there any consideration for going forward or was there a yardage threshold? Yeah, it was fourth and what? It was fourth and I don’t know, five or six. Oh, was it that much? Yeah, it’s pretty far. Yeah. John, given how well they were uh running the ball on the on their fourth and two there, do you think they caught you by surprise on that? I don’t think it caused by surprise, but I, you know, we we uh we can certainly play that, but you’re trying to It’s a great It’s a good play call. It’s not a surprising call at all. Uh we were talking about it in the huddle. I think they executed well on it. We can certainly play it better, and that’s kind of what you That’s kind of what we got to do. I mean, we got to learn from those things and get better at them and and and carry it forward. Two more. Joe, are you concerned how much they were getting with four at times. Uh I I I am, but I also understand kind of how we play and I just think Lamar’s doing, you know, he makes so many plays, makes so many things happen. So, you know, I like that part of it, too. Um I don’t want to be in desperate situations at the end of the game. You know, that’s not what we’re trying to do. But when we’re in those situations, we can go score. You saw it. We can go score. We can make plays because of our quarterback, you know, and and uh so we’re gonna we’re going to do that. But do I want to do everything better? Absolutely. That’s one of the things. All the things you guys are talking about are all things that we’re going to look at and uh we got to play better in those areas next week. All right. Thanks,

  1. Isn't it great how the the Ravens defense stand around waiting for the ball to be caught before reacting. Did anyone else notice this? John H should have reined in Lemar since his keeping the ball wasn't going anywhere and read the defensive Coordinator the riot act for not changing anything at Halftime. Absolutely NO EXCUSE for not adjusting. It almost looked like the Ravens just gave the game away! AND what happened to taking timeouts in the last 2 minutes? John GAVE UP.

  2. All 3 phases ,made leverages NOT 2 play RaveMS ball, ,, energy DiversioNS per random bad faith quake 4,3 west and random shot baseball little league,,El Enil, and executives Tru TTOXX amplificatioNS draw leverage against D win , cannot underestimate ,Good Faith Continuous ,

  3. How about credit and respect to a team (Detroit Lions)players and coaching staff that had a great game plan, executed better and smashed it down your throat… Go Lions….

  4. I’ve been saying this for the last 5 seasons, fire coach Harbaugh please! He doesn’t say a word on the sideline, any other normal coach that wants to win would be screaming at the defense on the sideline! Or using his leadership to some degree to reel the guys back in! He is literally letting every player on the field coach themselves! 2012-2013 is OVER! He is not a Super Bowl coach anymore. Yes he won one! But we’ve been too d@mn close to winning it all too many times! There has to be a change and it starts with coaching down!

  5. Harbs has to go, I was always a big fan of his but since the AFC championship game at home he has been a failure to this organization and is going to completely waste these guys talents
Loses AFC championship game at home
Starts O-2 last year, drops a game to Cleveland and then doesn’t have team ready for divisional round
Same story this year, starts 1-2 can’t beat the playoff teams, gets out coached, doesn’t have clock awareness. They ‘may’ get the division but feeling an early round playoff exit again.
And EDC won’t change a thing

  6. Y'all not coaching it right take accountability the schems not workiing I don't blame Henry ever one in the league no his weaknesses got to have fucking line to keep them out his face start fuckin Cleveland

  7. The stakes are so high for this team and fundamentally they have have some serious issuses. Game plan hasn’t helped and betting on your guys to always be great all the time is a recipe for the worst defense. Can’t get pressure, wish they signed Clowney

  8. Coach has to go he said they got to figure it out ..obviously he can't figure it out …but we the fans figured it out Harbaugh has to go we need a better coach ..it's ti.e for change can't they see the players are frustrated and losing their drive ..common new coach we need change

  9. Fix the offensive line man and stop the games. Come on, high ball, you better than that. Ain't get serious about a pass rush that can create what's sack and turnovers they need to stop worrying about everything. Downfield, they're dropping the bombs know when to do it and when not to.Yes office, but they need to fix the o line and defense need a makeover

  10. Extra hours running to build the stamina in speed to do interceptions, it was a lot of open opportunities for interceptions, none take. You play the guy who got his team ready. Under the military standard discipline was they King, and they grind it out against our defense Al offense. That's opposite

  11. To be good at Derek, Henry's running, you gotta open up those holes. You're not getting them holes open wide. Enough for him to get through to the second level, anybody could see that john

  12. You gotta get them stronger, faster and able to endure cause they had no stamina. Look like they needed Eating dawns testing don't know weekend. A practice, more practice longer hours. They were worn out by the end of the second quarter.

  13. So Let Me Get Dis Right Zack Orr Don’t Take Part In None Of Dis 🤦🏾‍♂️ It’s Our Defense For Da Most Part We Putting Up Points Ladies & Gentleman 🤷🏾‍♂️ I’m Just Saying 👿👿

  14. I mean he is right. The sacks didn't come until later. Lamar cant hold on to the ball that long against that kind of defense. He's better off protecting himself and throwing it out of bounds

  15. The Ravens have no competitive awareness. Zero. You don’t let the Bills hang around. They bounced you out the playoffs and you took your foot off the gas. You embarrassed the Lions last year and they came out with all the venom and fire to embarrass you because their coach pounded it in their heads this was a “get back” game. The Ravens are disgraceful in matching the intensity and expectations of the matchup. It’s not just that the defense is bad, but the entire team has no fire or anger to defend their mystique or aura. They go as the timid coaching staff goes. They are the direct reflection of Harbaugh. They have no killer instinct to overcome shortcomings in staff with pride and fire. Very disappointed in this continual slide in competitiveness.
