I’m an Islanders fan. I’ll be blunt with you. Within the first 60 seconds of reading your article I tuned out. Why?
“Patrick Roy hasn’t earned respect as a head coach in the NHL yet” and then “aside from his Coach of the Year award” in the very next line.
That was silly. Skimming the rest it looked good, but you’re not going to get Isles fans to read your Isles summary when you start with treating a previous Coach of the Year like a rookie coach. You blow the credibility right there.
Listen, I consider myself an optimist, but calling this Islanders d core one of the best in the league is crazy. IMO it’s the weak point of the team. The forward core, while lacking superstar top level talent, has a lot of good players and good depth. Sorokin is Sorokin. Rittich is a capable backup, and if healthy Varly is starter caliber. The defense has a ton of injury concerns, you’re likely giving top pair minutes to Temu Erik Karlsson, and your 3rd pair LD is either an 18 year old, a 20 year old, or Adam Boqvist.
