Semyon Varlamov CONCERNING Update! Latest Islanders Injury News | New York Islanders News

The Seian Varlamov quote does not sound promising at all. The the line that Patrick Wah gave was Seian Varlamov is not expected to rejoin the team for practices anytime soon. I don’t know if he plays again. And that was kind of my feel last year when he missed pretty much the entire year after Thanksgiving, which was, you know, that’s pretty early on in the season. Yeah. And you know they brought in Riddic which big save Dave I think there was a reason behind that. We on free agency day was like huh that’s that’s interesting right because you know Varlam Varlamov’s still under contract but the that that health concern I think is real. Yeah. So, like at the beginning of this, maybe maybe I shouldn’t say it. Beginning of this off seasonason, that’s not the right way to say beginning of this preseason. There we go. That’s the right way of saying it. Metsu Dash talked about picking up David Riddic and he was like or Riddick, whatever. Anyways, um saying I picked him up because we’re not really sure exactly how banged up Varley is, if he can start the year. So, this is just kind of insurance. Maybe he was just kind of feeding us a lying because he doesn’t he doesn’t feel comfortable in talking about Varley’s injury without you know seeing what he can do before um the season begins or before seeing him for preseason. But it’s clear they got a sight of him at preseason were like we’re not you’re not able to play. He’s able to put put on skates, right? We saw him at the the skate in for um for like media day and stuff. So, you can put all the stuff on, but he’s not well enough to play. Uh, and not being able to join the team for practice anytime soon. Obviously, that that could could mean anything. But Patty’s not saying that if he’s like two weeks out, I don’t think. No, no, no, no, no. That to me anytime soon is like this is months away, if at all. Yeah. which that really stinks for a guy who still has a year left after this one that cannot be buried in any way. We can’t get rid of it in any way. That sucks. LTIR, baby. It’s coming. Yeah, that’s the only way we can do it. Like we’re we’re still how much? Yeah. $2.5 million worth of cab space is what we’ve got. So that would free up around $5 million worth of cab space. Not that we’re in in sort of dire straits to need it. Like I I don’t think we’re going to go to pick up anyone that in a $5 million price range because we’ve got a bunch of those. But yeah, maybe we can trade it to to a team who wants LTI space. I don’t I don’t Yeah, I I don’t see anyone wanting to pick that up. I don’t either. And I just honestly I just I don’t feel confident that he’s going to return. And especially at his age, too. Like this isn’t a guy who’s, you know, 28 years old and had a season ending injury last year. He’s 37 and hasn’t played in almost a year. It’s going to be a year in two months. Yeah, that’s it’s not No one’s going to want that. I understand Edmonton is desperate for goalies who can stop pucks, but like they can stash them on LTI. They’ve got at least according to cap wages, which isn’t entirely accurate, $225,000 worth of space. Maybe he comes back from that injury and at some point they’re like, “Hey, you can stop pucks. Let’s go.” I doubt it. That’s wild copium and wishful thinking on my behalf. And that that would be the only place I can see wanting Simeon Vlamov just because of that that space. Otherwise, he’s not going nowhere. No. Which, yeah, it’s just going to be LTI space for us for a little while still. Not what you want to hear from Seamian Varlamov. Um, and then there were a couple other injuries too. Anders Lee, upper body, one to two weeks. He’s going to skate on his own tomorrow. So, that makes me feel like it’s not anything too serious and they’re kind of just being uh precautious and Ciplov is dayto-day. Yeah. So, not really sure what happened with Ciplov, but this is the time to have day-to-day injuries. Whatever. Something happened. You You’re in preeason still. Nothing’s on the table. doesn’t matter. Just rehab that. You don’t want to see a big injury go down in preseason. No. Got Terrace’s ACL or something like that. That’s got um so yeah, both of these injuries seem on the low end in terms of impact. Um they should all be back um by the beginning of the season. So that that’s good to see because we’re going to need both of those guys. Um, yeah, Dylan Keffler also picks up an injury, which that guy cannot escape injuries, unfortunately. Um, not that he factors into the NHL roster. It just you like to see these guys start developing and picking up an injury for a guy who had one last year. You’re like, come on, man. Just can’t catch a break. It stinks. But the Islanders season opener is October 9th. I would imagine that both guys are back in the lineup and ready to go by that point. Yeah, exactly. And you you know what you’ve got at least in Anders Lee. You still kind of know what you have in Maxim Ciplov. You just hope to see better from what he did last year. So you want to see a little bit more preseason, but you don’t need to force Anders Lee through preseason games. Like we know what we’ve got in you, Lisy. We’re good here. Yeah. You almost don’t want to waste the bullets or the reps with him, right? Exactly. Let’s not put you in a position to pick up a hamm injury for no particular reason that on a game that means nothing, right? No. Exactly. So, no, no concern really there for either. But but thought, you know, that news came out. Figured we’d hit on it. Yeah, because that those both occupy big spots on the roster. We might uh poo poo on the fourth line sometimes, but fourth lines matter, man. If your fourth line is garbage, well, then you’re really only playing with nine forwards, and that’s a massive disadvantage. Absolutely.

  1. We all thought signing Varlomov to a 4 year deal when he was 35 years old was asinine and this cements it. Lamoriello, in so many ways, screwed this franchise for YEARS to come

  2. Further proof Yoda was already suffering from dementia when he extended Varly instead of trading him at the previous deadline. He would have gotten us a top prospect or 1st round pick from a 'win now' contender.
