I don’t know if we got a goal first of the fight. So, we’ll have to figure this out, but Smith is going right now with Ben Harper. A couple of heavyweights here. Smith getting a left now trying to come over the top of the right. Harper and Smith. Now, they’ll go along the boards. There’s the taked down by Javanni Smith. And we will get this all sorted out because I don’t know if there was a whistle because Terasoft didn’t make much of a play on the shot. Javanni Smith two games with Carolina this preseason and his second fighting major as he heads to the box to a rockus applause here on community night. Never saw that before ever. I saw something I had never seen before last night. Hi everyone, it’s the Adam Gold Show. Uh, love the open. Well done, Rusty. Victoria is back. Yes. How was uh Chip Patterson Wednesday? Chip Addison Wednesday was always is always good. Uh, I’m going to ask you about your uh your Wednesday in a second. Um, but uh yeah, last night was wild. We’re going to talk about that bizarre bizarre finish. Um, but a reminder, we’re available on YouTube. I think we fixed your camera. I know. I think potentially it’ll probably kick in if it’s still working here in just a second. I just have to keep talking. It eventually does, but if if if it kicks in. There we go. There we go. There’s Victoria. All right. Good. We’re She’s here. Yes. Uh we we’re adjusting the camera, too. What are we doing? Are you you are moving? Oh, look at that. Oh, it does. Yeah. The It follows you like Speaking of Gremlins, the camera actually moves around like Yeah. Mhm. Very interesting. It’s a thing. Uh, all right. We’re on YouTube, so you can see Victoria is there. And right now, I’m not, but that’s fine. Uh, we’re on YouTube. Go to YouTube and search Adam Gold Show or 999 the fan. You can find us. I thank you very much. You can subscribe, like, share, whatever. Rate, review, doesn’t matter. But, uh, let’s just join us every day here at noon. Weekdays, we’re not here on Saturdays or Sundays. Uh, but, uh, every day at noon. Join us and, uh, have some fun. get into the chat, make comments, throw questions in there for our one-time segment, which I have been told we do in the first hour. Yes. You just never know when I’m going to forget the format of this program. Uh so, let me ask, how was your latest concert? You went you went and saw it was great. Uh my best friend’s wedding. What is it? What was the name of that group? Uh this one was the Bring Me the Horizon. They were the headliners. They were the headlines and we had Motionless and White and The Plot in You and then Some Band I’ve never heard of before that. The Plot in You. Yeah, that was the first time seeing them. They were good. Those last three I didn’t catch the first one. The last three were really good. All right. Where where was this? Lenovo Center. Okay. So, that was Tuesday night. Yes. All right. So, yeah, there were all sorts of cones. We had um Yeah, I made my son drive home from uh soccer training. Uh and we’re like, “Dad, what what do I do here?” I’m like, just stay in the middle of it, right? Just miss it. Yeah. Don’t hit the cones. So, it’s like, yeah, it’s very confusing for for somebody who has his permit. I know. Well, and it’s funny because I was talking with our promotions director about weekday, midweek day concerts. They’re brutal. But like Tuesdays, you know, you could kind of skate by if a concert’s on a Wednesday or Thursday. Thursday especially because you got one more day. But Tuesday, that’s difficult. Yeah, it rocks the whole week. I get it. I totally get it. And I thank the Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers for playing at 6:00 yesterday. So, I was home before 11:30. Wow. Yes, that’s early. And actually, I I kind of hung out a little bit longer than I normally would. I had uh I had phone conversations that I was having. I’m not going to get into it. It’s not important. Uh well, it’s important, but it’s not important for us. Um so, I was probably delayed by I could have been home before 11. Oh wow. Yeah, that would be awesome. Is that the earliest What’s the earliest you’ve been able to get home? Well, for a 7 o’clock game, if I’m home before midnight, it’s a miracle. Yeah. Uh usually by 12:30, that’s not bad. It’s not bad. I mean, I do get up at 5 something. Uh then, but still, if I’m home before 12:30, it’s really good. But uh yesterday, like 11:20 into the driveway. Yes. Wow. More games at 6. I don’t know. same day. Hurricanes don’t, Right. Hurricanes don’t want to hear that. More games at 6. So, here’s what we’re doing today. We got Adam Smith from Inside Carolina. He’s going to join us. You might have heard the RDER Cup starts tomorrow. Yes, I know. Are you prepared? Are you mentally prepared? Um, I’m excited. Yeah, I’m very excited for it. I I have yet to fully plan out how I’m going to deal with tomorrow because I really don’t want to miss any of it, right? And like what we do here is kind of in the middle of it. So, uh I I do know that today and we we do have uh we’re gonna have some stuff about it tomorrow. Today, Sebastian Aaho is coming on. Yeah. And we’re probably not going to talk hockey. Okay. He’s into the RDER Cup. Oh, yeah. So, I’ll ask him about last night. We’ll talk a little bit about it, but um no, we’re we’re here. He’s going to tell us why Europe’s going to win. Okay. That’s what I was told. Um and Jason Soil from SiriusXM uh Bed MGM. He’s a golf guy. We’re going to talk Rder Cup with him in the second hour. Anyway, we got a lot of stuff to do. So, let’s talk about last night. Let’s get it started. Okay. So, if you were at the game and you decided, yeah, I know it started at 6, but it’s like 8:30 8:20 or whatever it is, and you know what? We could leave, go home, you know, and be in bed by 10:00. Mhm. If you if you if that was you, and that would have been fine, especially when they started the wave. Come on. Oh, did they start the wave? Um, then you missed an inexplicable end to what really was a dominant Hurricanes performance. Somehow Florida won the game 4 to2. AO said after the game, “It’s a good thing it doesn’t count.” No, no, I’m sorry. Rod said that. AO said, “We learned how not to play hockey. It was remarkable that the Hurricanes lost a game that they probably should have scored five goals. They scored twice. Should have scored five. The best players were great. AO um Eers and Jarvis were great. AO was distributing the puck like crazy. Jarvis and Eers had incredible amount of uh opportunities to score. They just didn’t. It is preeason. It’s the first crack at it. Nobody is up to speed doing anything. Uh so they didn’t get anything out of those situations. Had a great threeminute power play in the first period which included almost a minute of five on three time. Did everything right but score. Legitimately it was a good power play. It was a good three-minute stretch. They just didn’t score. Um Denil Terasoft for uh Florida, their goalie, he was great. I thought in the first period he was allowing billions of rebounds that the Hurricanes just didn’t get to. Uh but he was really I thought he fought the puck early, but he also made a bunch of really good saves and Carolina left it two nothing entering the third. They pulled Frederick Anderson for uh Air My Signee and you know I don’t know if he’s the fourth goalie or not. Gosh, I hope not. Based on what I saw yesterday, because other than the empty net goal, the other three really had no business going in. The first one was a really just a a easy wrist shot from distance. I’m sure he was screened to an extent, but it didn’t change direction. Uh, and a shot like that really can’t go in. Uh, but it did. And then it was still 2-1 with about a little bit more than 4 minutes to go. And my is somewhere wandering behind the net looking for the puck with like three other players there for both teams. Like why are you there? Go back into your net. He couldn’t get back to his net. Florida tied the game. And then uh I think Shane Gstas Bear would rather not talk about the third period. Uh Gostas Bear allowed somebody to get around him who ju and that guy I think it was uh Michael Benning just threw it at the front of the net and it goes off the stick in front of Niftikov. It goes off his stick, pops up in the air and goes over into the goal. Mike Riley almost kept it out but didn’t and suddenly out of nowhere the Hurricanes are losing 3-2. They lose 4 to2 on the empty net goal. I considered giving Mystikov one of my three stars simply because he allowed us to not have overtime. Preseason hockey, right? I don’t want overtime. We don’t need that. No, I don’t I don’t want anybody to get hurt. I don’t want to be there any longer than I have to. Uh when that third goal went in, I thought I could give him the third star. Yeah, that would be funny. That’d be funny. Um, anyway, with all that said, the outcome of the game doesn’t matter. It is inconsequential because there were some really good things about last night’s game. I talked about it with Trip uh in the pregame show. I talked about it with Mike Matiscalo here yesterday. And in my opinion, if I am Yes. Barry Katkin. Not only do I see Logan Stanovven moving over to center I have that I know Aaho and Stall aren’t going anywhere. It really limits where I’m going to be in the lineup. On top of that, keep this in the back of your mind. It is a very likely that in what is today’s date? the 25th. In about a week, the Hurricanes are going to announce that they have signed Michael Mloud. They have agreed to a contract with Michael Mloud. That’s come. That should be coming October 1st. As long as everything stays the way it looks like it’s going. And Michael McCloud is a really good defensive center. Is he going to be Carolina’s fourth center? More than likely. Could he play further up in the lineup? That remains to be seen. But right now, I think the expectation is that he would be the fourth center. Maybe that moves Logan Stanovven out of center and it it opens the spot for Yes. Barry Cookami again. However, if I could channel my inner uh Stephen A. Smith. Kokam is going to have to earn that spot. And last night was a good start for him. He was really good. I didn’t like the first maybe five or so minutes. He He looked like he was in some ways going through the motions, but playing with Andre Fetchnikov and Bradley Nadau, who definitely were not going through the motions, I thought dragged Kokane Emmy into it. And from that point, I liked everything I saw from Yesperry. It was an important game for him. So, he scored the second goal. I thought he played very well. Won won enough. He didn’t dominate the faceoff circle. He was uh 10 out of 19 um or nine out of seven. Was 10 out of 19 or nine out of 17. Doesn’t matter. Uh I thought he played very well. So, it was a good start for him. I think he’s got to play a little bit better than that, but he because I think he’s got to have a dominant preseason to remind the head coach that he’s still good enough to be considered with that. Andre was excellent last night. We all know what we need from Andre. And based on what I saw Monday from Bradley Nadau, it was really cool to watch Bradley Nadau be Carolina’s best player. No joke, Nadau was excellent last night. And when he wasn’t very good on Monday, the head coach gave him a mulligan. He played him with Spetchikoff and Coke and Emmy and Nadau was legitimately good. That doesn’t mean he’s going to make the team, but he needed to show what he could do playing with NHL players. And I thought that was a very very important step forward for him. Um I thought um Ryan Suzuki played well. I thought my favorite player of the night, not wasn’t the best player, but it was cool to see Mike Riley play well on defense. Riley is going to be the seventh defenseman. He’s not going to play he’s not going to start over anybody given an injury. Yeah, he’ll start some games and I’ll bet you he’ll start oh, I don’t know, 25 games uh over the course of a season, maybe 30, you know, with, you know, guys, you know, nicked up here and there. Uh if there’s a major injury and somebody’s going to miss significant time, I’m going to go out on a limb and say they’ll probably uh look to the minor leagues to bring somebody up, a young guy who is ready to make, you know, you know, be in the NHL. It could be uh it could be Charles Alexis LGO who I don’t think was at his best Monday or last night, but I know how the organization thinks about him and they think he is ready for the NHL. There’s just not necessarily any room right now. Uh we had no Slavven, we haven’t had Slavven yet. We haven’t had Chapfield. We haven’t had Keandre Miller. And my guess is we’re not going to have them anytime soon. Maybe Monday, the I’m sorry, Sunday for the last home preseason game, but again, probably not. So, I don’t think we’re going to see any of them until the 9th, two weeks from tonight against the New Jersey Devils because that’s when uh when it all starts. So, enough good last night. Frederick Anderson didn’t face anything that remotely looked like a difficult save and they got him out after 40 minutes and let my miff no bueno. Uh all right, really quick. Rder Cup does start tomorrow. Question came up in one-timers yesterday. I’m going to be very quick here uh because I I do want to play a uh a little bit of a sound bite from uh European captain Luke Donald. Um it’s the best event in golf. And if you’ve been paying attention to that event, whether it’s 2 years ago in Rome or really at any point in the last 10 or so years, there have been enough rumblings that US players want to get paid. Look, these I I can I can argue it both ways if I needed to. The PGA of America makes a lot of money on the RDER Cup. The players are the story. These are professional golfers who get paid to play golf. Both sides, not just one. Traditionally, members of the Rder Cup teams on both sides do not earn money by playing in the RDER Cup team. They don’t. There’s no prize money. There is no purse, if you will. But the US team has been getting it’s either 200,000 or 300,000 because they do this at the President’s Cup. They have been getting um money to donate to charity. That’s the they that money is earmarked for a charitable donation and that that has been happening for some time. By the way, this debate goes all the way back to the late uh 90s when people like Marco Meer argued that we should be paid for this. Again, not going to get into the debate because they’re professional golfers. I get it. They play to earn money. The RDER Cup again obviously has been different. And when the PGA of America announced that they would be paying players this year, it comes in direct response to a lot of the stuff that happened in Rome two years ago, which as I mentioned the other day, they can pretend it didn’t happen, but it did. Patrick Kentlay wouldn’t wear the hat because he was mad that the RDER Cup wasn’t paying players. Xander Schoffley’s dad said uh that he thought he considered not going because they don’t get paid. Like they’re not making this stuff up with all of that. Luke Donald, the European captain at the opening ceremonies yesterday kind of slid this in. We didn’t come here just to be a part of the show. We came here to earn our place in Rder Cup folklore. We’re not just playing to win. We’re playing for each other. And for every young golfer back home who dreams about one day representing team Europe. We know it won’t be easy. Winning away never is. Only four European teams have done it before. But that’s the beauty of sport. The toughest roads lead to the greatest rewards. We are fueled by something money cannot buy. Oh boy. purpose, brotherhood, and a responsibility to honor those who came before us while inspiring those whose time is yet to come. We are fueled by something money can’t buy. That was not his only reference to we’re not here for the cash. I said at the time when that decision was announced that this would come back and bother I don’t I don’t it might not bother anybody to be honest but this would become a story when we got here. It is a story and we will see how really both sides handle it. It might have zero impact but it is a story. All right, we got a football game coming up in New England, right? I know. Very, very cool. You’ve got Bryce Young, who has been in the league one year longer than Drake May, but this is the team that Drake May grew up rooting for cuz he’s a Charlotte kid. So, he was asked about uh the matchup and taking on his boyhood team. Yeah, I think it’s different playing up here. You’re going back to Charlotte be would have been um different. U but you know going against a team that I grew up watching, you grew up cheering for and um a lot of great memories in that stadium uh back in Bank of America. So uh yeah, it’s a little different but at the same time it’s still you know just is another week another week in the NFL and um you none of the same players that I grew up you know playing for besides the long snapper still there. So JJ Jansen is still there. He is nobody else but JJ Jansen is still there. That was great. still doing it. Good for uh good for Drake May. All right, Bryce Young, how about the fact that has it been seven quarters since the last time the Panthers have turned it over, right? Yeah, of course. I’m taking care of the ball is obviously just super important this league. Um you know, someone who touched the ball every single play, uh take pride in that. Um you know, it’s a week- toeek league. Want to make sure that uh you know, I’m continue to take care of the ball. We all continue to take care of the ball. Um and then, you know, they’re they’re also obviously emphasized taking away uh taking it away. um defense done a great job of that uh last week of course and you know we talk about a lot in the building so we want to make sure we we take care of it and take it away. Yeah, getting turnovers uh big and I think uh there we could have a lot of turnovers in this game. By the way, Christian Gonzalez, the Patriots top cornerback is back for this game. So Tedaro McMillan versus Christian M Christian Gonzalez could be a fun matchup to watch. And we know that Tedaroa is playing cuz I know there was like kind of rumors of him being slightly banged up. What I heard yesterday was that he is going to play. That would that would be ideal. Yes. We don’t know about some of the other walking wounded, but uh my understanding was that Tedo and Mc McMillan would be playing. All right. A lot of people might know that the Giants made a quarterback change, right? So the Giants have gone to Jackson Dart. If you watch the game Sunday night when the Giants played the Chiefs, uh Chris Collinssworth could not stop talking about how much the Giants really loved Jackson Dart. Never mind the fact that every time Jackson Dart came in the game, they did not throw it. Last I checked, your quarterback should probably throw, but and he he’s played in two games, has yet to throw this year. Doesn’t mean he can’t. I watched him at Old Miss. He threw at Miss, but he is really more of a dual threat player. Uh, and the packages they had for him through weeks two and three were in run situations. Uh, they were whether whether he kept it in a zone read or they did some misdirection, they were runs. And that’s fine. He will have to throw it. But this does of desperation. And it does wreak of Brian Dable uh cuz he announced not only would Jackson Dart start, he announced Jackson Dart as QB1 for the rest of the season. Yeah, it’s week four. Yikes. Wow. Curt Warner, who has been the on the other side of this coin because he was the quarterback for the Giants when they drafted Eli Manning. And the plan was Warner would play until Manning was ready, but the Giants got off to a bad start. And that was like week six or week seven, and they just went, “All right, it’s Eli time. Here’s Curt Warner on this dynamic.” Sometimes you start to feel that the coach is starting to feel that the seat is getting a little bit hotter and that you know you have to make some kind of move to try to spark something inside the locker room because what’s going on on the football field just hasn’t been good enough. And I I just hope that’s not the case here that you’re throwing Jackson Dart out there with a tough schedule and with all the issues you have offensively and he’s not quite ready and even if he’s ready and you’re not ready as a team to allow him to have success early and you’re just making the move because you have to do something. I don’t like when moves are made that way. They don’t normally work out really well. But maybe there is just something that we don’t get to see that they’re seeing in practice that says, “Hey, we get an upgrade or we get the ability to open up our offense in a different way with Jackson Dart that we didn’t have with Russell Wilson.” And that’s what I’ll be paying attention to as they move forward is is there something that looks different that he brings to the table that we didn’t get a chance to see from the practice tape. Again, Curt Warner lived it with the Giants. Eli Manning took over. I’m not going to argue one way the other. I remember thinking that at the time it was kind of silly, but long run Giants were right. Eli ended up uh not being terrible and they won two Super Bowls with Eli Manning at quarterback. Uh is Jackson Dart as good as Eli Manning? I don’t know. Probably not, but we’ll see. Uh meanwhile, Russell Wilson, we have no idea what Russell’s going to do, but that’s fine. Uh Russell’s had a great career. He’s a borderline Hall of Famer. Um and it’s clear that he’s not the same player that he used to be. I mean, that’s obvious to anybody who’s watched, unless you’re playing the Cowboys, in which case we all go back into the flux capacitor. Yes. Every time. So, all right. When we come back, Adam Smith inside Carolina on UNC football. We’re going to take stock of things through four weeks. got a by-week this week, then another byee after Clemson, but also Roy Williams. No, just stop. Stop engaging with people. The Adam Gold Show see Adam Gold show. I am Adam Gold. I’m not sure what this is in reference to. Was it in reference to the hockey game last night or is it in reference to the uh the current cover of US Weekly? Yeah. Well, today is National One Hit Wonder Day. Oh, is it? And so I’m I have a bunch of one hit wonders, which people are welcome to throw out any like ones that they like personally, but yeah, it’s one hit wonder day. So all one hit wonders for bump songs. And this just felt appropriate with UNCC. Yeah. Yeah, they are. It It has been bizarre. And I I said this yesterday and we’re not going to talk about it. I don’t care that US Weekly is doing a story on who the real Jordan Hudson is. I There’s no possible way I could care less about that. None. Yeah. Because I am at zero cares. Right. You can only go negative. But it is driving some people crazy. They are using it as another reason. Well, it has nothing to do with anything. So, let’s talk about the football and then beyond the football. Adam Smith inside Carolina. I’m probably gonna guess right here that you’re thrilled to not address the cover of US Weekly. So, let’s get into the football. Um, it is against I need to read that, by the way. I should read that. I have not read it. I have not. It’s probably at wherever you shop for groceries, Adam. I’m sure it’s right there. Uh, right below in style or uh like the do we do we still have the star? Is the National Enquirer still a thing? Uh, weekly world news. It’s probably in there somewhere. Um, yeah. I I’m See, I’m not going to read it. I don’t really want to know. I don’t I don’t care. Um, the football how did Oh, yeah. How did how how did UNCC at Central Florida or Central, how did that look to you? Um, not good. Yeah. you know, I mean, actually, if I’m going to uh toot my own little horn here, um I wrote, well, there’s a bunch of stuff that I wrote, and one of them was it was kind of like an anvil over the head in terms of a reality check. Um, and that was all based on uh the the tunnel that you walk through if you’re the visiting team. The tunnel that you walk through to get into the bounce house at UCF, there’s a bunch of cartoon drawings of the mascots in the Big 12, right? And it’s kind of cute. It’s that kind of cute actually. But um you know I think Carolina fans have been looking at that game ag like you know if if you were dealing in reality um you know beyond the hype and the pump and the circumstance and the buzz of of the opener against TCU on Labor Day. I think what you were looking at was you you figured Carolina would lose to TCU a a competent team with a very good quarterback. um that they would beat UNC Charlotte and Richmond as they did and then the season would sort of start in some ways with the UCF game which this is a a schedule with a bunch of toss up games and that looked like maybe a tossup game that you could win. I mean that I think UCF’s picked next to last in the Big 12. They’re they’re you know they’re they go Gus Maine got the heck out of Dodge down there to go be FSU’s offensive coordinator. you know, they’ve obviously brought back Scott Frost, but you know, you looked at that game as um you know, like a 50-50 game maybe, and it was not a 50-50 game. I mean, they got beat down. Yeah, it was it was 27 to three in the second half when Gio Lopez got hurt. If if you add it all up, if you take their two they played two games against teams from power conferences, they’ve been outscored 82 to 23 in those two games. Um, you know, it was it wasn’t good. And I will tell you, maybe, you know, this is an entertainment show. I was think when you said, “How was how was UCF?” It was kind of fun the way that that that we went into the stadium from from where we’re staying, you go by all these these fraternity and sorority houses, right? Um, and the banners, the two road games that UNCC have play has played, the chance and the banners have not been kind to the Bellich, right, George Hudson relationship. Um, you know, they’ve there was some signs about keep Bill away from the student section. Um, there are other signs that not fit for uh FCC approval probably. Um, you know, at UNC Charlotte, they had a chant. Uh, Bill likes freshman. Clap clap clap clap. feel like freshman. Um, so, uh, these teams that have been beating them have been enjoy enjoying beating them. Obviously, Adam Smith Inside Carolina is joining us here on the Adam Gold Show at Adam_ith_IC. And that is the Yes, it this is an entertainment show. I’ve I’ve I’ve had I’ve spoken to college classes and asked that question at the front. What is my job? My job first and foremost is to entertain. if we accidentally inform people along the way, it’s just an added bonus. Uh, and I’m all about the jokey jokes about it. Um, but I also don’t I think that too many people are taking those elements of this too seriously. Uh, because I really don’t think they impact the football. Now, North Carolina went into this season with 70 new players from a year ago. Central Florida had 67 new players from a year ago. So there is something in the evaluation process that has been, you know, maybe different for other schools than it has been for North Carolina. We were talking to uh my friend Chip Patterson yesterday and Chip said that Carolina had like the ninth rated I think it was the ninth rated uh transfer portal class uh based on you know all the players that went to whatever schools uh during the portal. Uh now maybe that’s in numbers so and maybe the individual talent. My my read on it going into this game, and I actually forecasted about 3 weeks ago, was we’re not going to learn anything from Charlotte. We’re not going to learn anything from Richmond. If we did, it was bad. Um, and I gave him a pass for Charlotte, which frankly wasn’t good. Um, I said we we were going to learn based on what we saw from Central Florida. That’s when we were going to learn. And if if I was right then, I think what we learned is that there just aren’t enough good players to beat even ACC caliber teams. And that should I think that should that’s that’s eye opening. Should be eye opening for the coaching staff. No, I I certainly think they need more talent. I mean, after watching them for four games, I certainly think they’re they’re they could use more talent. obvious. I mean, who couldn’t, right? But I I certainly think you you you see that when you watch Carolina play. And I I think that if if you’re a UNC football fan right now on the by-week, um you know, you’re pretty dang frustrated about the quarterback play. Um now, I do think that um you know, I I do think that the that the there’s been sort of a lack of creativity in my opinion in play calling on offense. you know, you see the running back slamming into a line where there’s not much there. I don’t know if that’s on the old line, the running back, whatever it is, but um you know, I I you know, you look at how many teams look at like a Virginia and how much better they have been when they upgraded at quarterback with the Chandler Morris kid, um Chad Morris’s son, you know, he like they they are a completely different team. I don’t know if they’re gonna beat FSU on Friday night, but they are, you know, they look great. Virginia does. Um Syracuse looked great. And I know the Notre Dame transfer got hurt um at Clemson, but Syracuse has looked great. Um you know, Duke was good last year, and I think people would agree they significantly upgraded at quarterback the way they won games last year. Um, so I think, you know, I think Gio Le Lopez, who I like, I’ve enjoyed getting to know him. You know, he’s he’s kind of been a bust so far through four games. You know, that right, Carolina’s offense, AG, is just not in a good place. I was crunching the numbers the other day. They are on pace. If they keep this current pace, it’s going to be their fewest uh total yards per game, their worst total offense since like 1989, since since the Mac M 1.0. know. Um, you know, they haven’t they haven’t forget throwing for 300 yards. They haven’t even thrown for 175 yards yet. Um, and and that’s another thing, you know, there’s a there’s a laundry list you can go down. Like there’s no there’s no there’s really no vertical passing game. You know, I think it’s 40 over 40% of Lopez’s completions have been behind the line of scrimmage. Yeah. Um, so yeah, I mean it’s it’s sure they need some more talent. I had a I you know, not to pick on them and and and rub it in their face, but we were sitting right beside of uh two NFL scouts from the Texans and the Dolphins the other day at UCSF and I just was talking to them because I can can be kind of a personable guy and they said that they were there to see UNCC because you know that this was their area and they they wanted to see UNCC. They wanted to see guys on both sides. They wouldn’t tell me who, but they wanted to see guys on both sides of the ball. Um, and they were gone before the first half was up. They got up and left. Um, so, wow. I mean, it’s it’s kind of funny like they haven’t played an ACC game yet, but you could be looking at a at a pretty pretty bad ACC record here. And and they miss who is it they miss? They don’t play Miami, right? They don’t play Florida State. They don’t play Georgia Tech. They don’t play Louisville. And they don’t play SMU in the in in league play. They do play Clemson, but Clemson obviously has been a disaster so far, right? Yeah. But but we we know Well, we don’t know anything about Clemson, I guess. But Cal’s suddenly good. Virginia’s dangerous. Syracuse is good. We’ll see what happens with a new quarterback. Suddenly, the schedule doesn’t look nearly as easy again relative to Carolina as it did at the beginning of the season. Uh let let let’s drop football. No, not literally drop football because they’ve invested a lot in the program, so I’m not suggesting that. Uh but I wanted to get to before we left something you wrote the other day that I found fascinating. Uh and I know part of this is about Roy Williams, but part of it is also Tyler Hanssbro’s teaching a class at UNC. I’m I I could not be more interested. I I wish I could go back to school. I would love to take I guess I could I would love to take a class taught by Tyler Hanssbro. Uh I know Roy Williams spoke to the class. Talk to me about that class and uh what Roy was doing. Well, I I appreciate you bringing it up. It’s It’s funny you talk about going back to school. I have gone back to school this semester. Uh just sort of following Hsro around. I’ve been over there twice now. Um and I have to I have to give major props to the profess. It’s it’s a it’s a sports communication class over at UNCC and um the professor uh Liv Freeman, Livis Freeman is just a great dude who has been good to us at Inside Carolina for a long time and he uh the the Tyler’s first class, Tyler’s debut in class. He he invited us over there and you know I went over there and so Roy um Roy showed up the other day. It was last week I think or the week before. Um, and Roy was like a guest lecturer. And I will tell you that Roy Williams still has the fast ball. I mean, of course, uh, it was there was so many stories that that that you have that we all have heard before. So many of those Roy stories, but honestly, it was pretty fascinating. I hadn’t anticipated it. You know, when you get to be our age, um, right? you know, you sort of feel like you you know what’s coming no matter what, even if you’re covering a game. But this I had not anticipated how an audience of 20 year old kids, you juniors and seniors at Carolina would receive, you know, this person who is a living legend to them. Um, you know, that that that they grew up with their their dads and their moms and their older siblings. Like I I was sitting since I’ve been there a couple times now. I always sit in the back and I don’t don’t take up a an actual desk. There’s some places you can sit in the back and and a young woman came in, sat down right beside me like, “Can I sit here?” And I was like, “Sure.” She wasn’t even in the class, but had heard that Roy was going to be there and she grew up in the Greensboro area and she wanted to come see Roy talk. Um, so you know, like it it’s what I’m trying to say is that it’s it was fascinating to see an audience that age react to these stories that we’ve all heard before. And I put it in there. Um, if anyone has a chance to go read it, he had them crying at one point. He was crying. They were crying. I mean, he had them laughing, too. But like um he was playing the hits and you know it was sort of like one of these speeches that it wasn’t a speech. It was just sort of I believe I called it a fireside chat. A uh you know it was one of these it was one of these things that only Roy could give you. Um you know he talked about going to UNCC and feeling like he was in New York City is the way he called it. You know I was the littlest fish you ever did see. He said um but it was great. You know, he had Michael Jordan stories. He had a couple Jordan stories I hadn’t heard before. Bill Ford stories, had everything. Dean Smith, you know, he he had them he had them, you know, at attention, you know, talking about meeting his wife Wanda in the in ninth grade algebra back in Asheville. Uh, you know, it was fascinating. It was fascinating. I was glad that I went. I It was It was a little tough uh because we were Belch was going to be talking that day, too. But I decided to go see what Roy was up to. and and Roy did not disappoint. It was it was fascinating. The story is on Inside Carolina if anybody wants to try to find it. It is uh it is great. You did a great job with that. Uh and I look forward to uh to a followup. But but professor, he’s not a professor. Associate professor, lecturer, maybe. Well, no, I was thinking about Tyler. Uh he is a he’s an adjunct professor. He’s a visiting professor. Wow, that is amazing if you can believe it. That is amazing. Adam Smith inside Carolina at Adam_Smith_IC. Uh, enjoy I don’t know if it’s a week off or not, but enjoy no football for you on Saturday. Thank you, man. Yeah, man. Thank you. Thanks for having me on. You got it. Adam Smith, always fun. Uh, I Who wouldn’t want to take a class from Tyler Hanssbro? Yeah, I know. I wonder is Tyler a tough grader? It’s a good question. So, I would like to ask him that. Uh, all right. Maybe we’ll talk to him about basketball coming up soon because everybody’s starting. All right. When we come back, one timers, you can go to the chat at YouTube. But it is Billy Joel, and I know you like Billy Joel, so I made the exception. I know. I thought the same thing as soon as I saw the recommendation. I’m like, this is not a one hit wonder. So 101 hit wonder. I know. I have a bit of news. Oh, it’s not good news. Well, I mean, I I don’t know how people are going to take it. I don’t take it as good news. Panther center Alexander Barkov helped off the ice after suffering an injury in training camp today. And there are I mean I’m just reading on the Athletic. They they’ll know more tomorrow. Uh but there appears to be some bit of worry there. Remember they’re already without Matthew Kachchuck until at least December. So, look, Barkoff is one of the best players in the entire league. Yes. And I mean, I’ve already I’ve talked at length about my how I view Alexander Barkov. I hope he’s okay. I really do. Um, Florida’s played a lot of hockey in the last three years. A lot of hockey. Takes its toll. Hopefully, he’ll be okay. But since I saw that story, I thought I would just pass that along. Now, questions and answers. Okay, so looking at our YouTube stream, we do have a few and one is starting off with the Canes. So, do you think uh Gavanni Smith will play with the Wolves? Uh I mean, look, I don’t know how the organization views Javanni Smith. Uh he certainly had an impact last night. I didn’t like his game on Monday, to be honest. I thought he looked slow. Um uh but he has fought Javanni fight Smith. He’s fought in both games. I don’t know if that matters. Um so it all dep I’ I don’t know how to uh really address it. He’s here in a PTO I think just to fill out the roster, but he’s certainly been noticeable. But I don’t believe he is a candidate in any way, shape, or form for the NHL roster. So, I’m not sure he’ll go to Chicago. Next up, uh why not Ryan Suzuki? Ryan Suzuki is uh probably a very good American Hockey League player. He’s not good enough. I talked about this last night. I thought he played well last night. I don’t think he’s good enough to make Carolina’s team, but I do think that there are some teams that he might be good enough to play in a fourthline role there. He’s a good, you know, good two-way player, smart player, but I don’t think he’s a he’s not a hurricane. He’s not going to make Carolina’s roster. Okay. And let’s see if we can get this one in quickly. If someone were to crack the roster, who is the current forward who would be made the odd man out? Oh my, there’s they have a lot a lot of forwards who would be the odd man out. That’s the thing. They have a lot of NHL players. It’s going to be very difficult. Um, I don’t know who that would be to be honest. It would probably necessitate a trade. Talking sports, dropping truth, the Adam Gold show on the North Carolina Sports Network. Yeah, that was uh that was a gutsy call. Wasn’t that far uh earlier. I think that’s proper sentence structure. where Barcade dropped the pass that hit him right in the hands. So gutsy on two fronts. One that was fourth down to do that go deep cuz too many things can happen that aren’t good. And you go back Mark’s a wonderful player, but to go back to the guy who just dropped one was a little bit of a uh risk. No. But it was just a that that whole sequence was gutsy on the part of Duke. And I know State fans are not happy and they’re mad at Dave Dorne, blah blah blah. That was a fun football game. State made the mistakes that Duke made against Illinois that if you make the mistakes, nobody’s I shouldn’t say nobody. State’s not good enough certainly not good enough defensively to overcome offensive mistakes. Duke learned that against Illinois. Not good enough to overcome offensive mistakes. And Duke made mistakes at two lane, too. Bill Bich ain’t wrong. More games are lost than one. It made some Panthers fans upset when I basically uh didn’t agree that 30 to nothing was a dominant effort. It wasn’t. But sometimes you don’t have to be. You just have to be smart enough to let the other team beat themselves. Atlanta did a great job beating Atlanta. And Carolina was smart enough to get out of their way. You guys want to lose, go right ahead. We’re We are more than happy to take the win. All right, we got a lot to do. Jason Soil is going to join us from Beth Page in about uh 15 or so minutes. Right now, let’s run it back. And we always like this is our second look at the news of the day, but this is actually an item we haven’t talked about yet. And we are going to discuss a little bit here uh North Carolina, but the college football playoff committee or whatever the uh group is that will decide on the new format, whatever that may be, met yesterday at Big 10 headquarters and they came up with nothing. Made no progress on anything. December 1 is the date by which they need to inform ESPN, who is the rights holder for the College Football Playoff, whether or not there would be changes to the format. December 1. I mean, it’s not right around the corner, but it’s not that far away either. It’ll get here before you know it, right? So, we’re not far from October one. So my mad says two more months after that you got to let ESPN know and they right now cannot agree on what to do. I have a couple of very quick issues. one. It still makes me angry is not the right word, but it’s still patently ridiculous that the SEC and the Big 10 are basically going to make this decision with while they’ll get input from the ACC and the Big TW uh and the Big 12 and Notre Dame, it’s really what the SEC and the Big 10 want. And this is in some ways letting the Yankees and Dodgers make the decisions for Major League Baseball. Nobody would be on board with that. Nobody. Yet, this is what’s happening in college football. Flat out. The Cowboys and the Patriots will make all of the decisions for the National Football League. Everybody else just has to suck it up and get on board. This is college football. It is ridiculous that this is the place we are in because it isn’t about anything other than control power. Greg Sanki, Tony Patiti, the two men who lead those two leagues have zero interest in what’s good for the sport in its entirety. None. It’s not their job. I I’m not saying that as a criticism. It is not their job to give a rat’s ass about ECU football or UNC football. It’s their their only job is to make sure that their member institutions are taken care of. That’s it. Now those two univer those two leagues are at an impass for what they see as the future of the playoff which I mean I think all of it is posturing. The Big 10 wants guarantees across the board. The SEC wants the opposite of that. And I don’t know how much of it is their own power play um you know individually but if we were doing this with any eye on this is what would be good for the sport we would have you can I have no problem with honoring conference champions that’s fine but there would be no guarantees after that it. What’s wrong with that? What’s wrong with earning a playoff bid? All right. We also don’t know how many teams are going to be in the playoff. You can make the argument that 12 is where we should stay. That’s fine. Um I actually think that four would have been better. 12 is not as good as 16. the the buys are bad. Uh small sample size, smallest possible sample size, but last year all four teams that had the buy lost their first playoff game. All four. We had four teams with buys, they all lost their first playoff game. It’s not good. It’s no good. So I mean football, if you take the week, it’s not just a week off in football. It’s many weeks off in football. Yes, because they’re done like in the uh you know, maybe you play the first week in December and then you don’t play again until New Year’s Day. What are we doing? So, everybody’s better off if we don’t have buys. 16 would be a better number. Again, I would argue four was fine, but that’s just me. But they can’t determine how many, who, where. This is way too much for them apparently because it really isn’t about anything other than who wants to have the most power. It’s not about the sport. Not about the sport at all. Um, all right. The ACC. I have an idea for the ACC. Well, uh, and then I want to mention UNCC very quickly and then we’ll break. Um, the ACC is has already said we’re going to nine conference games and that we want everybody to play one game against the power four opponent outside of the league. Uh, of course, with an odd number of teams in the league, somebody’s just going to play eight conference games. Clemson would volunteer to be that team every year. No joke. Uh, they play South Carolina at the end of the year. They want to open the season with an SEC opponent. They’re starting this uh you know not every year series but most years series with Notre Dame in a couple of years. So uh Clemson values their non-conference schedule ability. I don’t know if the others do or not, but we know Clemson has stated it. I thought about this and I thought about recreating the ACC scheduling model in groups of four because I keep saying this, you should schedule for your fans. you should schedule for television. So, there’s really no good reason why Duke, UNCC, uh, NC State, and Wake Forest aren’t grouped together and they play each other every year. No reason other than, well, we want to be fair. Can’t be fair. 17 teams in the league. We can’t be fair that fair left a long time ago. So, put the Big Four in its own little pod, right? Take the former Big East schools, Pit, Syracuse, Boston College, Virginia Tech. Put them in their own little pod. Let them play each other. Clemson, Georgia Tech, FSU, Louisville. Why? Why not Miami? H. Wait, I’ll get to it. Miami, SMU, Cal, Stanford. Create those four pods. By the way, Virginia goes with the four North Carolina schools for historical purposes. And we need we have to have f a group of five at some point because we have 17 teams in a league. We didn’t think about that, huh? Um and then you play in your pod and then you play against one of the other pods and then one or two in some cases other games uh to fulfill the nineame conference schedule. And again, somebody’s going to have to play eight. And I I would imagine Clemson would raise their hand. The reason I group Clemson, Georgia Tech, FSU, and Louisville together is that they all have annual season ending games against teams outside the league. This would make sense to me. And then I would go make the schedule as I saw fit as the commissioner. That’s it. That’s what I would do. I could run this league. You should. I could run the league. I could run the league. All right, real quick about uh about UNCC football. Uh I mentioned this to Adam Smith when he joined us last hour. Um it’s no good. They don’t have enough talent. Gio Lopez is not an ACC quarterback. I’m not sure Max Johnson’s an ACC quarterback either. I do worry about putting Bryce Baker in um based on the fact that Carolina doesn’t look like they can do anything really well and I don’t want to get him hurt or ruin his confidence or anything like that, but at some point Bryce Baker might have to be an option. Um, people are taking this US Weekly um, magazine cover, the real Jordan Hudson, and they are assigning football meaning to it. And I think that is gratuitous. I think it is unfair. And I think it is just I don’t think I have never thought this would work. Therefore, everything that is even tangentially connected to UNC football is going to be a sign that UNC football is a train wreck. And I just could not disagree with that line more. Who know what the I’m not I’m just not going to say anything. The Adam Gold Show. Jason Soil works for everybody. SiriusXM, I was listening to you uh earlier this week previewing the RDER Cup and I appreciate you carving out a few minutes today to talk to me about it and I know you with uh Ben MGM so I thought we should get into some RDER Cup wagers and then we’ll talk about pairings and whatnot and just have a little fun because uh I cannot I cannot get enough of it. I am so geeked. I think Beth Paige, while it might not be the greatest matchplay venue ever, I think the center of Long Island though this close to New York City, is just going to make this event absolutely pop. Um, even yesterday, it seemed like it was a great atmosphere for the opening ceremonies that were bumped up a little bit. Yeah, Adam, thanks for having me on. I’ve been pumped about this one since September 17th, 2013 when the PGA of America announced that we’d be coming to Beth Page. I grew up about 20 minutes away, staying in my childhood home this week. And uh you know, these are my people. The New Yorkers are not going to be a quiet bunch this week. I think it’s going to be uh not only uh the most fun Ryder Cup, but probably the loudest Rder Cup, maybe the loudest sporting event that we’ve seen in a very long time. This is going to be so much fun this week. Yeah. And good. And New York fans don’t have to worry about like their team winning because nobody in New York wins. Uh you know, as a you know, we’re Mets fans, right? Uh and you know, it’s probably we’re not we’re not even going to make the playoffs, Jason. All right, let’s uh let’s get to uh first of all, at the top, USA right now minus 145 and and the lines vary a little bit. Uh, I got Europe at plus 170 and a tie is plus a thousand. Uh, home home course, home nation really does matter here. What do you like there? Yeah, I’m playing the trend with a caveat. The trend is that the home team has held serve in 12 of the last 14 editions of the RDER Cup. two exceptions being 2004 uh when Bernard Langanger’s squad uh beat Howal Sutton seems to put Tiger and Phil together and that never worked right from the beginning and then 2012 at Madina where the US team was in control the entire time. They were actually up 104 at one point on Saturday and wound up losing on Sunday when the European team beat him in singles. But really other than that, the home team has not only won but won fairly handily. the margin uh the differential in points over the last five RDER Cups been 6.6 average uh which means the home team is not just winning but they’re winning going away. So I like the US this week but that caveat that I mentioned is I don’t like that minus 145 minus 150 number which is hanging out there right now. This is a competition where we see es and flows. We see momentum shifts. I do think the US will get off to a good start, but at some point, whether it’s Friday morning, whether it’s Saturday afternoon, at some point that momentum is going to start going in Europe’s favor. That number is going to get longer. I know that sounds weird to say longer, not shorter. When it goes from 150 to like minus 110, – 105. When it gets in that neighborhood, that’s when I’ll jump on it. What if you because you’re right, the margins have been glaring. You know, you go back to what happened in Rome, Europe with a big win. You go back to Whistling Straits. It was an absolute massacre for the in favor of the United States. What about like putting a spread like USA minus three? Yeah, I like that. I’ve seen USA minus one and a half. Uh we’re right in the middle of football season. We all understand spreads right now. Uh USA minus one and a half is trading at right around that close to even money number, maybe a a little bit uh shorter than even money. And so I don’t mind playing it that way. If you like to jump on and jump on now, you say, “Look, I I I like live betting, but I’m working. I’m doing stuff. I got family things all weekend. Like, just give me give me a pick to make so I so I don’t have to like sit here and with my finger hovering over the button on my phone the entire weekend.” And then yes, I I would think that USA minus three might be pushing it, but I don’t mind that. Minus one and a half I think sounds really good. Well, I mean, if it’s what was it 19 to nine? Yeah, you could you could go really crazy. Look, the overall both of these teams are very strong and I know uh so much has been made of the fact that Europe basically brings back the the same team except we exchanged Hoygards. Uh so it is it’s the same team. Um and there’s a there’s four rookies for the US. But you know, and while they are rookies, I think they’re all pretty accomplished players. Ben Griffin’s had a great year. JJ Spawn not only won the US Open uh but you know came very close to winning the players as well lost major events in playoffs. So he has put himself in contention in uh in the in the toughest environments. Um, I I did see a stat from our friend Justin Ray uh who said that pointed out that teams that have had one or no rookies have not lost since this has been uh Europe versus the United States. Does that matter at all? I don’t think it matters as much as we tend to believe. I I think that we hear that term rookie. We’re so used to watching other sports. I just talked about football point spreads. We’re used to watching football this time of year. We see, okay, the Giants are going to start Jackson Dart this weekend against the Chargers. Jackson Dart’s a rookie. He’s never played. Okay, that’s going to be tough for him against good defense. And you look at things in terms of rookie. Ben Griffin, JJ Spawn, JJ Spawn won the US Open this year, right? Uh these guys, Russell Henley’s been around forever, 36 years old. you hear rookie and you say, “Okay, like in in terms of other sports, like you hear quarterbacks saying, you know, everything’s moving a little too fast for them and they’re trying to slow things down and get their bearings.” I don’t know that that’s necessarily the case in golf. It’s still just golf. They’re still just going out there and playing the golf course and trying to make birdies. And I don’t think it’s as as big a deal as we tend to make about it because quite frankly, Adam, and you know this, uh, with an extra day to analyze and overanalyze with this thing starting on Friday, we we get into everything when it comes to the RDER Cup. It’s we’re like, rookies were, you know what, my favorite one is, by the way, what the camaraderie issue. Every two years, we’re like, ah, Europe, you know, they’re they’re better friends. They have more camaraderie. Think about it. When we play the Super Bowl, we over analyze everything. going into the Super Bowl. Did anyone ever say the Eagles are better friends than the Chiefs? Do I think they’re going to win? No. Who cares about camaraderie? Come on. Jason Soville is joining us here on the Adam Gold Show. SiriusXM, CBS Sports HQ, Bet MGM, uh the Athletic, it’s everywhere. Uh at Jason Soilgolf on Twitter. All right. Top scorer. It’s easy to say Scotty Sheffller. uh who’s got the shortest odds I guess at plus470 which is frankly pretty good value anyway. So if and he’s probably the most likely to play five matches for the US. Um but who who are you looking at as top scorer for the US? So first of all you look at this based on how many matches you’re going to play. Give me volume. Uh, if a guy one guy’s playing three matches, you think, and another guy’s playing five matches, well, I’ll take the guy playing five matches who just gives himself more of a chance to win in this category. And yes, Adam, this is what I call the AAMS razor play, which means that sometimes the the simplest explanation is also the most correct explanation. It’s Scotty Sheffler. Why Why are we betting against Scotty Sheffler? And quite frankly, it’s a really good number on Scotty Sheffller. you can get him at right around plus 300 3 to1 not to be the overall point score just to be the top point scorer on the US team to beat 11 other players in his own team room just two weeks ago he was plus 225 he was a shorter number to win the procore championship against 143 other players including nine of his teammates who are here this week to me that makes no sense that comparison of course oh by the way he won the procore championship I love it it’s my favorite player on the board this week. Scotty Schler to have the most points for the US team. And I also like a little sprinkle on most points overall. And then to go 5-0, he’s 16- one. And I I think there’s one thing, one other point to be made here, Adam, is that we don’t often look at correlative wagering in golf. That’s something you do in football, whether you know it or not, you’re doing it. Whether you know the terminology, right? Think of the other day, okay, the Lions are playing at the Ravens. If you like the over for the game total, then you probably aren’t betting under props for Lamar Jackson and Jir Gibbs and uh all the Aman R St. Brown. You’re probably playing over props if you think there’s going to be a lot of points scored. Well, we have correlative wagering at the Ryder Cup. If you think the US is going to win, you’re betting US overall. You’re probably not betting unders on Scotty Sheffler. You’re probably not betting the under on Bryce Dambo. You probably think that those guys are going to play pretty well. So, uh, unless you’re into hedging, unless you’re like, “All right, well, I’m going to take the US here, but I’m going to take Europe there, and you’re just going to basically, you know, push your money back and forth, I think you can look at things and and try to get a big picture of what’s going to take place this week.” And, okay, I like US, which means I like Scotty Sheffller, which means that I don’t like Rory Mroy as much. And I think you can play it that way. Is there another American you think might play five matches? I could see it from Okay, so I was just actually putting on Twitter a few minutes ago that uh we’re gonna get the Forsomes pairings later today. Should be about four o’clock, correct? This afternoon, don’t expect it to be the eight best players, right? Um because what happens is if you put out the eight best players, well, in the afternoon for four balls, when you go out to guys who are birdie makers, well, either you’re leaving guys on the bench or you’re putting guys who are more suited for the alternate shot format. My that’s my subtle way of saying Colin Morawa and Harris English might play on Friday morning and we might not see a Cameron Young who’s been playing really really well and we’re going to save him. That said, I think Scotty plays five matches unless it’s just an absolute disaster somehow if he’s 0 and3 maybe sits out Saturday afternoon. But I really don’t see it. I think that this team uh will ride on the back of Scotty Schiffler, win or lose. Bryson Dashambo I think does get a forsome start in yes on on Friday morning if he wins and I think he plays with Justin Thomas I could be wrong about all of this but if he wins he goes back on Saturday morning and if he doesn’t they just hold him for uh best ball and then Xander Schoffley and Patrick Kentley are basically going to be together and if they lose some momentum if they lose a few matches if they’re not playing well they’ll sit and if they continue to play well I think Keegan Bradley rides the hot hands. Yeah, I like uh Bryson to be the top uh top score. Like a plus a thousand is a good one. I think Rory and Rahm will both play five matches for Europe. Rory did two years ago. Rahm did not. The only player for the European side to play all five matches in each of the last two RDER Cups, it’s Victor Havland. And I know that there’s there’s murmurss out there that Victor Havlin’s swing is not right now where he wants it to be. Victor Hofflin won a tournament earlier this year hating his golf swing. So I I’m not sure if that’s necessarily a a bad thing for team Europe that Victor Hoffland isn’t hitting it the way he wants to right now. Uh but that’s a guy that I like in that market, especially top European point scorer where Rory’s around plus 300. Uh Rahm and Fleetwood are plus 600 and Havland is plus 900. If I can get Holland at three times the price of Rory and one and a half times the price of the other two, that feels like a pretty good good deal to me considering he’s played every match over the last two Ryder Cups. Here’s what I don’t understand. When has Victor Hoffland, the man who loves UFOs, when has he ever been really happy with his golf swing? He’s changing it all the time. And I agree with you. I had told a friend of mine that Victor Havland uh was a a sneaky guy to watch. You said something a second ago that I believe will happen. I believe that Justin Thomas and Bryson Dashambo will go out first. Uh I was was watching Golf Channel last night and they were talking about the odd number holes being bad ones for Dashambo to drive on. So it’s that would eliminate him hitting the first T-OT if that’s the way Keegan Bradley goes. But I love the pairing of Thomas and Dashambo who I think will emotionally be in sync as much as anything. I was told by somebody on the scene yesterday and they played in the same group every day so far. It’s been Dambo, Justin Thomas, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, which seems like a Paul Azinger old style kind of mini pod right there that those guys will all be together. But I was told by somebody who was there that uh Bryson swung out of his shoes on the first TE. Cameron Young had a nice little pause at the top, swung nice and easy, and Cameron Young actually got closer to driving the green than Bryson did, which I think is very, very telling, very interesting. That said, uh, yeah, look, I’ve got it at a I’m still working on the European teams as we speak right now, but I’ve got it at Bryson JT maybe in the first match, followed by Scotty and Russell Henley, Morawa and English, and then Schoffley and Kantlay uh, in the anchor match. I mean, the ordering could be uh completely different on that, but I I think you want to go out with kind of the guys that are are going to be pumping their fist and getting some momentum going, getting the crowd going. So, I I wouldn’t be surprised if they lead things off tomorrow morning. Very much Bubba Watson stirring the crowd up uh what about about a decade ago. Jason Soil is joining us here uh on the Adam Gold show. I agree with you about Scotty and uh and Henley. My only fear about Colin Morawa in um in alternate shot in forsomes is I just he has not been anywhere close to like forget about the top of his game. I’m not sure he’s been close to the middle of his game uh the last uh two or three months. Putting has been bad. Uh and I mean he’s going to hit be hitting a lot of five irons uh into greens at Beth Page. So that’s my only fear about him in forsomes is that he’s just not playing well and I’m not sure he’s suited for that course. I I don’t disagree with you, but I I’d rather have him in the forsomes format than throwing him out in four balls. So I know there’s some people listening right now that say, “Well, why is he playing at all? Why does he playing, you know, for two days if he’s not playing well?” And I I get that notion. The last time a captain decided to sit some players for uh the first two days was back in 99. And that kind of backfired on Mark James, the European captain who threw out uh was it Vanderelt, Coltart, and one other on Sunday without having touched the club, right? Uh for a meaningful shot all week. So uh we we start looking at, you know, where where can you put a guy like Bora Caval? Well, he’s more suited to uh the alternate shot where you’re you’re probably not going to make nine birdies in a match. You’re probably going to make four or five birdies. You might throw in a bogey or two, but basically hit it in the fairway. give your partner a chance. And I think he can do that. I I think a lot has been made about how poorly he’s played, especially uh considering his standard uh that he’s shown over the last handful of years. But I think Colin Morau is going to step up. He’s he’s heard the cat calls. He’s heard all the whispers about where his game is right now. And I think he wants to prove something this week that he’s not as bad as everyone seems to think he is. Well, 99 they did. They sat all they sat three players. Coltart, uh, Yarmmo Sandalin, who right, uh, and Jean Vandervelt, they didn’t play until Sunday, and that definitely was not good because all three players lost their singles match. I don’t think Keegan Bradley does that. Uh, he’s certainly not going to do it to one of his captain’s picks because if you do that, then you should have played yourself, right? And as opposed to one of your captain’s picks. Uh, it is going to be a blast. You have a predicted final score. I will give you. And by the way, I will also predict that all 24 players will play on Friday. I I don’t think anyone gets left on the bench on Friday for either session. So, um I I think they’ll all be out there. I will give you US 15 to 12 and a half. Hopefully, it’s really close. Hopefully, it comes down to the end. Again, we haven’t had a close one since Madina in 2012. I mean, these have been blowouts for the home team every single time since then. and uh we’re due a really good one. Look, golf has been in a bad place the last handful of years with the division at the top level, PGA Tour and Liv and people getting turned off. This year has been a comeback year. Look, the ratings are up, the interest is up. Scotty Sheffler and Rory Mroy, the two best players, two biggest stars in the game, accounted for three of the four major championships, and of course, Rory won the players as well. It’s been a big year for golf, and I think that continues this weekend. I agree. I think we’re going to be uh coming down the stretch on Sunday night and I believe 1414 will still be in play when we get to the end. I think that will be in play when we get to uh to the end. So, I think this is going to go right down. I I would love to see who the last couple of players are in singles because those are going to be some incredible matches. Jason Soil, I am jealous of your place in the world right now. Beth Paige is one of my favorite experiences ever uh playing golf. It is it is the hardest, fairest golf course I have ever set foot on and I cannot wait to watch it. So, thank you very much for your time, sir. Thanks, buddy. I appreciate you having me on. It’s going to be fun. And oh, by the way, if it is 1414 at the end of it, I don’t like our chances in penalty kicks. Beth, very good. It probably won’t come down to it, but you’re I It’s in their blood. It’s not in ours. Right. Right. Thanks, man. Well done on me catching the joke. Um I’m I’m excited. Sebastian Aaho, I have heard also into it. We talk to him next hour. We’ll see how much hockey we talk about. He might just want to talk about golf. Yeah. Well, I like it. I like it. It’s fun when some of the hockey players come on and talk about other sports. Like Tony D’Angelo would talk about baseball. My gosh. Yes. I’m I’m like I’ve been meaning to reach out. Yeah. But I don’t want to get my phone blown up from the Phillies fan right now. Cuz he’d do it. Schwarber is going off. And yeah, as a Cubbies fan, I’m like, “Yeah, you’re not happy about it.” I love Kyle Schwarber, but I just wish he was in blue. Yeah, he should have been. I know. Probably should have been. All right. Uh we we do this on Thursdays, right? We got to get people ready for their Survivor pick. It is time for the hope selection of the week. If you’re not familiar, you know what a Survivor pool is, right? So, you got to pick just a winner each week in the NFL. A winner. And we still haven’t gotten to byweeks yet. So, we’re still we still got the full array of the NFL. So, I have a system that will help you win your Survivor pool. And here it is. Home teams only. It’s the H. Home teams only. Just to reiterate, worst teams in the league. They’ll win three, four games a year and they’ll pretty much all be at home. Don’t Don’t go into that lion’s den. Out of division games. You saw what happened last week. Falcons and the Panthers. You saw what happened. It’s just weird. Don’t mess with it. Don’t mess with division games. Out of division games only. Betting lines guide you. Find the biggest point spreads and stay there. They don’t keep building hotels in Vegas for no reason. Avoid saving teams. Invariably, you always get to this point. Well, you know, I don’t want to take them now. I really rather save them. And you know what happens? You lose. And then saving doesn’t matter cuz you’re out. It’s a survival pool. You just want to make it to the next week. Good teams only. This is something that will be unavoidable at times. You will have to take a team where you have to go, “Yeah, I don’t think they’re very good, but this is the best selection of the week.” So, home teams only, out of division games, betting lines guide you, avoid saving teams, good teams only. Hobag. Denver we took in week one. Off the board. Arizona we took in week two. Off the board. Seattle we took in week three. Off the board. Who are the best selections this week? New Orleans is at Buffalo. The Bills are 15 12 point favorites. Cleveland is at Detroit. The Lions are 9 and 12 point favorites. Carolina is at New England. Patriots are five-point favorites. They’re not good. Neither team. But remember what I said, good teams only. We’re not in a position where we have to take a bad team, right? Going to scratch that game out right now. Tennessee is at Houston. 7 and 12 point favorites are the Texans. Right now, they ain’t good either. We’re going to scratch that one out. Not to mention, it’s a division game. Yes. Uh Jacksonville is at San Francisco. Only a three and a half point favorite. How much do you really trust M. Jones? I don’t I’m going to scratch that one out. It really comes down to there are two choices this week. You’re going to take either Cleveland at Detroit. You take the Lions home against Detroit, nine and a half point pick. Or you’re going to take Buffalo at home against New Orleans. Cleveland’s defense is just good enough to make you worry. Mhm. So, we’re not going to worry. There’s nothing about New Orleans that’s good enough. Yeah. Buffalo. I We’re not saving teams. You don’t save anybody. No. Hobag says Bills, right? Buffalo at home. Okay. To the New Orleans Saints. Why is that funny to you? I just I keep thinking just don’t trust the Rattler. Not a week for him. No, buddy. So, Buffalo at home against New Orleans. Uh, Bills are minus 15 and a half points. Oh, crazy. All right, that’s your uh your hobo bag selection for week four. All right, when we come back I remember this time. So good. All right, we’re going to take a break. We’ll come back. We will stretch. We’ll place bets. I am ready. I’m drooling. Bye. Talking sports so you don’t have to pretend to no stop. The Adam Gold Show on the North Carolina Sports Network. We had to exit the home pretty quickly because of how quickly the water came in. It was just really vital to me whenever all the public service announcements were going out, you know, that we needed to get our water tested. We need to, you know, get in the field and start helping people disinfect their water supplies. It’s really critical to their health to be able to um have that safe drinking water. They were reaching out to me to make sure that I knew that there were resources available. NC Public Health everywhere, every day, everyone. This is Adam Gold. So, Mike Vrabel, the coach of the New England Patriots, they asked him about birthday cake and he said there was only one cake qualified for his birthday cake. Oh, yes. Okay. Do you want to guess what that is? Is it vanilla? No. Oh, Karen. I love him even more. The Adam Gold Show. It’s the Adam Gold show. I am Adam Gold. Bobby McFaren didn’t have any other hit songs. Apparently not. He was on one of the lists that I Okay, that’s fair. So, I can’t think. This might be the only hit. I actually have the album that this was on. It’s pretty good. Yeah. It’s a sneaky good album. Yeah, makes sense. Yeah. I uh I mean that’s how they get you cuz you know back in the day you had to actually buy the whole cassette, CD, whatever. And so that forced you to listen to all of the music. They didn’t force you. But I loved it. You have an option. You could always just listen to the one song. True. But I was not that person. Yeah. I would wear them out. I actually think the album was pretty good. Nice. So pleasant surprise. Exactly. Um yeah. One hit wonder day. Yeah. Yeah. You have a favorite one hit wonder? We haven’t played it. You have Have you played it yet? Uh favorite one hit wonder? I So I’m looking at this list. I won’t say which one, but I mean I do. Yeah, I I do have I do have I’ll just tell you I do like Chumba Womba. That’s a good one. Hit tub thumping. That’s a good one. Very nice. That’s a good one. I get knocked down. I get up again. Right. Yeah. I will say this list is wrong though because they have Hoopa Stank on here. The reason is a one-hit wonder. Let me tell you that is not a one. They are not a one-hit wonder. Okay. So that is rude to Hoopa Stank. Yes. You don’t want to be rude to Hoopa Snake. No. So yeah, but yeah, that’s probably my fave. Time to stretch. Okay. So, not only do I love one hit wonders, but I also love life hacks. And I don’t know if I guess some of these are life hacks, but there was this article they put out where it’s just a lot of different things that people said, “Don’t knock it till you try it life hack.” Basically, one of those kind of things. And so, these were really interesting, the one that I read. So, first off, we’ve got frozen towels. Now, this is for your face where they say to put a damp towel in like the freezer for a few minutes and then you can use it to like quickly cool down. That’s always a good little hack. I don’t know. much. Feel like that’s kind of obvious. But then this is another one. Heating towels, but the other way for your food in the microwave. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried this, but it actually works, especially with rice. If you take a paper towel, damp it, and then put it in the microwave with your food. Yeah, it helps. So, that’s a little uh that’s a little that’s a little hack if you have to nuke something really fast. Now, this I laughed when I read this because I just thought everyone did this. Folding laundry while watching. They said trash TV, but I’ll do it while I’m watching sports. Yeah, that’s When When do people fold laundry otherwise? I know. Do you just do it in silence? What kind of maniac does that? Yeah. You’re terrorist? No, I fold laundry on the back of a uh like a rocking chair. Yeah. Uh while I’m watching whatever’s on TV, game, whatever. Exactly. It’s I mean duh lasso. What are we doing? And now this it’s going to be sweater weather soon. Not today. That’s actually later on in the week or I think on the weekend it’s supposed to be chilly and next week I think it does happen. Yeah. Nice. Well, with sweater weather, you also get soup/chili. Oh man. Right. I’m so ready for it. And I’ve never thought to do this, but do you like Cheezits? Yeah, they’re fine. I don’t I don’t I don’t crave them. They said I love some Cheezits. They said you could put that in your chili instead of like crackers. You could crack I don’t do either. Well, that would be a good little mixture because they make all kinds of flavor. So, they know people who like magic cheeses. Exactly. I got to use my magic cheeses for hockey, not my chili. So, so I got to save it for that. But, uh you can do that. Now, this I’ve been telling myself to try this and I have not yet. taking a peanut butter and jelly and grilling it like a grilled cheese where you like melt the peanut butter a little bit toasted. I take care of that by putting it in the toaster. Lightly toasting the bread before you make the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Right. Exactly. I’m curious though if you were to do it like a grilled cheese if that would change it. Like I don’t know if that would mesh things better. Who knows? But now I try this. I wouldn’t do that. But it sounds messy. If you lightly toast the bread, you don’t really have to toast it. You just warm it. Like honestly, 45 seconds in the toaster is more than enough. Enough. Yep. Yeah. That And uh also, here’s another uh little life hack. Uh slice banana. Mhm. And put that before you put the jelly on, put that on, too. I love peanut butter banana sandwiches. Yeah. But a little jelly as well. I haven’t tried it with that, but I do I do get down with that. I’m thinking about opening up a restaurant where we only serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I Okay. I used to live in Greensboro, right? They actually had a little shop downtown. I don’t know if it’s still there, but they served like gourmet peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Only peanut butter and jelly. Yes, exactly. With different stuff in it. No, it was it was good. This next one, I will say frozen grapes. Now, they’re saying this is good instead of using ice cubes for like wine or whatever, which it’s good. Well, it’s, you know, some people just like frozen grapes in general. I will say when I lifeguarded for a bajillion years, I would take apples and put them in the freezer as well. You got to be careful cuz if you leave them in there too long, you’re going to break a tooth. So, just a little bit goes a long way. And then last but not least, because people like me who get eaten alive by mosquitoes, I have never tried this, but I need to. Putting toothpaste on your mosquito bite. I’ve heard of putting it on pimple, but they say if you put it on um your mosquito bite, then it helps the itch disappear. Also, if you take a warm spoon, apparently that nixes the protein that makes you itchy. So, who knows? I needed to know that because I already have like five mosquito bites. I’m like, can you just die, please? Can we can you things just die? It’s not cold enough yet, but I would love for that to happen. All right, then. So, yeah. Hopefully somebody learned something and hopefully we place some good bets. Place your bets. Place your bets. Here we are. I bet you slice into the woods a 100 bucks. Gambling is illegal at Bushwood, sir. And I never slice. Okay, you can owe me. I owe you one. All right, let’s get her done. Okay. Well, I don’t I didn’t win anything yesterday. Oh, no. Well, what did I win? No, no, I won Cleveland. Oh, there you go. It’s easy. God. There you go. Uh, let’s see. I think the Reds today, they don’t have Paul Skiings pitching, so I think the Reds are going to come through because they kind of need to if they want to stay relevant. And, uh, give me the over 7 and a half. That’s plus 195. So, the, uh, the truth of the matter is that the, uh, the Reds lost the day before also without Paul Ske pitching against them. I think the Reds might just be feeling it a little bit. M. So, we’ll go with the Pirates to sweep that series in Cincinnati. Uh, and I agree. Over seven and a half. Yeah. Next up, wishful thinking. I know. As a Mets fan. Uh, I, as we were talking about earlier, I love this guy. Wish he was still on my team. Kyle Schwarber, anytime home run hitter, plus 185. All right. Mets are going to beat the Cubs today. No, they’re not. Forget it. forget I said it cuz it’s not going to happen. Um, I’ve already given given you my RDER Cup pick. Europe plus 170. Uh, I also like I think a tie. I think it’s going to be very close if you wanted to go that route. That’s a that’s plus a,000. I’m going to give you the two leading scores for the United States and for Europe. Leading scoreer for the US is going to be Patrick Kentlay at plus 800 right now. And we talked about it with Jason Soil. Victor Havland plus a thousand gonna be awesome. From the heels touchdown Carolina to the Kes. He covers it all. It was that was a fun game. I’m sorry. Didn’t work out the way state fans wanted. Now they’re in their fields. But I get it. Uh you have a ve I think you have a good You have a good offense anyway. The defense is a work in progress, but I think it’ll get better. And you got wonderful players on the offensive side of the ball. And there are some good players on defense, too. So, um, apparently we’re supposed to get a bunch of rain on Saturday for Virginia Tech, the Virginia Tech game. State just get back to take care taking care of business. When they don’t turn it over, they’re really good offensively. I mean, that that was the difference between State and Duke. it it was a tight game late and the difference was turnovers. I mean, we can’t get around that and they shouldn’t have snapped the ball at uh right at the end of the first half and he ended up throwing the pick six. So, uh again, I thought I I actually think both Duke and State are good football teams. Are they great football teams? No, they’re not playoff caliber football teams, but they’re good football. Both of them, I think, are good football teams. Um, Duke uh has got their hands full with Syracuse this week. Uh, Carolina’s off. State gets the Hokes who are in turmoil. That is a program that needs help. I know they’re throwing a bunch of money into it, and that’s good. Good for them. You do what you want. If I were them, I would say, uh, we need to find an elite coach, somebody who might not be coaching right now that might be working for ESPN that we we could throw $20 million at. Would Nick Sabin take that job? Very unlikely. But, I mean, I’m not really kidding. Yeah. If you’re you want to throw money at a at a program, Yeah. do that. Doesn’t hurt to try do that again. Do I think he’d take it? Probably not. But I don’t know. For 20 million, he might consider it. He might. And 20 million, by the way, would be underpaying Nick Sam. All right. Uh, let’s stretch. Not stretch. The wall of sound is a function of this studio. There’s no doubt about it. If I wrote it down, I would probably stretching. I would probably get it right. Well, at my age, you can never stretch too much. I know. Exact. Oh, and you just agreed to You just agreed. No, I need to stretch more. So, she agreed. Victoria just agreed. Yeah, you are an old beep. No, never. But I do have a poll on our YouTube. I keep for I keep forgetting what is the poll to uh to mention it. It’s gold old. It’s who’s winning tonight’s football game, Seahawks or Cardinals? And as of right now, Seahawks are winning by 67%. So twothirds of the people think Seahawks. All right. Well, they are hosting the Cardinals, correct? No. Are they in Arizona? Yeah. Yeah, I know. Well, we’ll see. All right. Let’s we’ll talk football here because the Patriots are uh hosting the the uh the the Panthers on Sunday. Bryce Young and company have been clean for the most part in the last two games. Yeah, of course. I’m taking care of the ball is obviously just super important in this league. Um, you know, someone who touch the ball every single play, uh, take pride in that. Um, you know, it’s a week toe league. Want to make sure that, uh, you know, I’m continue to take care of the ball. We all continue to take care of ball. Um, and then, you know, they’re they’re also obviously emphasized taking away uh, taking it away. Um defense done a great job of that uh last week of course and you know we talk about a lot in the building so we want to make sure we we take care of it and take it away. Perfect formula worked for Duke. It worked against them against Illinois. It’s the turnover battle is almost always that’s the path. Uh all right let’s uh Bryce Young who is in year three. Drake May is in year two. What does Bryce think about Drake? Been around him maybe once or twice, but um you know, just from watching the film, I have a ton of respect for him and his game. I think he’s a great player. Has has a super bright future ahead. Um um yeah, does does a lot of really good things and you know, him being from around this area, I’ve met and and know people who have known him and they’ve all said he’s he’s a great dude. Um so yeah, I have a ton of respect for him. And he loves Pop-Tarts. We learned that at ACC kickoff a couple years ago. Drake May, who doesn’t love Pop-Tarts? I know. Well, some people don’t. Some people don’t like You have a favorite Pop-Tart? Uh, probably just strawberry frosted. I know you don’t like frosted. Strawberry frosted. Well, I mean, I don’t mind frosted. Mhm. Except that if you’re going to put the Pop-Tart in the toaster. Oh, that’s where you’re like, “And you use frosted, you need a uh fire extinguisher.” Yeah. You’re going to burn your face. There’s It’s inevitable. Mhm. So, I But I generally don’t toast the Pop-Tart. Yeah. It’s always between that or the brown sugar maple, whatever it is. It’s just standard. I know. Perfect. I know. You know, don’t overthink it, right? Don’t overthink it. The the brown sugar cinnamon is just Yes. Yes. I’ll never say no to that. Come on. And that’s frosted. I would never put it in the toaster. Yeah. No. And then you start peeling the skin off the roof of your mouth. Why do you want that? Uh here’s Drake May on taking on his favorite team from growing up. Yeah, I think it’s different playing up here going back to Charlotte would be would have been um different u but you know going against the team that I grew up watching you grew up cheering for and um a lot of great memories in that stadium uh back in Bank of America. So uh yeah it’s a little different but at the same time it’s still you know just is another week another week in the NFL and um you none of the same players that I grew up you know playing for besides the long snapper still there. So JJ Jansen has been there forever. He has been. It’s like the furniture. Yeah. He’s just there. He’s got his own golf cart. Doesn’t he do that like golf cart series where he rides around? JJ Jansen is just like if you’re good at it. Yeah. Imagine that’s your job. Awesome. It’s so awesome. Right. Real quick, we you were in um uh in our seventh inning stretch earlier, you were talking about things in the microwave. Yes. Right. Do you put like if you have leftover pizza Mhm. Mhm. Does that go in the microwave? Only in desperate situations. If you have a toaster of an option, right, use that. Yeah. Mhm. If you put anything bread Yeah. in the microwave. Yeah. You are asking for sadness. Fight. Yeah. After about a minute and a half. I know. Fight. Yeah. Are you making croutons? What do we But yeah, you just can’t you can’t bite all the way through the pizza. No. So, what what I use cuz we don’t have a like one of those toaster ovens. Uhhuh. Yep. We uh I just put it in the broiler on low. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And then the that pizza will be perfect. Yeah. 3 minutes, right? Can we wait 3 minutes for delicious pizza? Yeah. Pro Most people can’t. Well, yeah, most people can’t. All right, back to quarterbacks. Curt Warner, uh, who, cuz we’ve referenced this, Jackson Dart will be the starter for the Giants. Now, Brian Dable has declared him QB1 for the rest of the season in week four, which is silly, but Curt Warner’s been there with the Giants. He was the quarterback, the veteran quarterback who seemingly, as it turns out, he wasn’t seemingly at the end of his career when the Giants drafted Eli Manning and they I don’t know, it was like week seven when they decided to go to Manning. Curt Warner hopes it’s for the right reasons this time. Sometimes you start to feel that the coach is starting to feel that the seat is getting a little bit hotter and that, you know, you have to make some kind of move to try to spark something inside the locker room because what’s going on on the football field just hasn’t been good enough. It’s very likely that the improvement in the Giants will be the improvement throughout the team based on the energy provided by Jackson Dart. I I’m not trying to be flippant. I think that is the greatest opportunity for improvement. Not that Jackson Dart is going to be even better at all than Russell Wilson. If you think Dart is going to be better than Wilson, that’s fine. you’re you’re more than, you know, welcome to do that. I think by and large the improvement in the Giants will come from the energy that he provides everybody else so they can do their jobs better. One more thing before we break and Sebastian Ao joins us on the other side. Luke Donald, Rder Cup captain for Europe. I I mentioned this earlier. There has been USA controversy might not be the right word because it’s over. Uh there was a lot of talk about the US wanting to be paid for their participation in the RDER Cup. Earlier this week, they announced that uh they would take all of that money and it would be donated to charitable causes, which is great, but it was still an issue in 2023 in Rome. It’s been an issue before, and Luke Donald might have addressed it yesterday during the opening ceremonies. It is not about prize money or world ranking points. It’s about pride. All right, that’s good. We don’t need anymore. That’s what Luke wanted to you you to hear. Stick the knife in and just twist it a little bit. You go, Luke. Uh, all right, Sebastian. The Adam Gold Show see Adam Gold show. It’s a great one hit wonder. Great music video, too. Phenomenal. Mhm. the um Aha. Actually, I didn’t realize because we’re going to talk to Sebastian AO here in a couple minutes. Uh Aha. Ao. I don’t know. Uh anyway, um yeah, that was a uh phenomenal phenomenal song. Victoria told us it was national one hit wonder day. We’ve only got one more of those one hit wonders. Uh bumps coming out, right? just uh bottom of the hour break is the last one we’ve got. Um you know I’ve been geeking out about the RDER Cup which starts tomorrow. By this time tomorrow we will be into the afternoon sessions at Beth Paige Black. It is a it like I’ve heard it called a perfect event golf event because it is so quick. Friday Friday Friday morning Friday afternoon Saturday morning Saturday afternoon Sunday done. It’s not four days, it’s three day. It is just different. Uh, and I know I’m not the only one who is fired up for it because I asked specifically when I got to the game last night who would be cool with talking about the RDER Cup and I was told that the first answer was Sebastian Aaho and he joins us on the Adam Gold show. Uh, sir, how you doing? I’m doing great. How are you? I’m doing well. I appreciate your time. I saw you working on your uh your sticks yesterday. I want to ask you I really don’t want to talk about last night cuz exhibition hockey uh is exhibition hockey. But I do I am curious about this two two very quick things about the game last night. One cool playing with uh Nick Eers and uh and your your buddy Seth Jarvis. Uh I thought you guys had some pretty good chemistry last night. Everything but the goals, right? Yeah. Yeah, I’d say so. We had some uh we definitely created a lot and obviously we had uh uh yeah, a lot of chances, but uh but obviously but having said that the game obviously uh exhibition game and obviously them not bringing you know their their lineup is the game was it was what it was and right um but yeah, we definitely can be better at at uh many details in a game and that’s a good thing about the preseason. you get the and even the exhibition games you know the new guy like uh uh Eer he comes in and and uh you know it’s it’s tough to uh there’s you know coaches throw a thousand details to to him and he kind of has to figure out what uh what to do with them but obviously when you play a game you uh you get to talk you get to see on the on the video what what you know we should have done or what we did good so that that that part uh about the preseason season is good. I don’t want to minimize Sebastian is joining us. I don’t want to minimize. I don’t want to disrespect the game or anything, but the way it ended, does it bother you the way it ended? Uh, do you forget about it? I mean, I know you said last night that uh it’s a good thing the game we we learned how not to play. Um, how much does that sit with you? because I I found it almost I mean again I don’t want to disrespect it. Uh I found it almost hysterical the way everything happened. Uh because you guys were so good last night that I don’t want to like forget how good you guys were uh really for 40 some odd minutes. Yeah. I mean definitely uh I mean you know we all come competitive you you every game you dress up you want you try to win but obviously it doesn’t you know I mean it’s it’s flust I mean it doesn’t really matter obviously there’s no you know points or right you know you don’t you don’t do anything with that game right it’s just more um yeah you definitely you don’t think about it that stuff today you go over a video session in the morning and you take the positive, you take the negatives, you you know, you go over and then you flush it. I mean, that’s just how it goes. And um yeah, obviously when the the real stuff starts, it’s a little different. You um you know, that would definitely bother more than it does now. Sebastian is joining us here. All right. I promised we were going to talk RDER Cup, so let’s do it. First of all, um what what is you’re a relatively new golfer, right? When did you start playing? Well, yeah, I started playing when I got first got here. So, I don’t know, 10 years now. So, God, you’ve been here that long. Making me feel old, Sebastian. You’re still young, but you just made me feel old. Yeah. Yeah. I’d like to think think so that I I am a young guy still, but there’s Yeah, there’s guys uh you know, well, you can’t younger than me now, so it’s funny. You can’t be the youngest forever. I mean that’s just going that’s just natural. Uh but it it is amazing. So So you basically you’ve been playing about 10 years. When you started playing, did you then automatically catch the bug to watch the pros? And I’m sure you’ve played with plenty of pros here. Um how did how did you get really interested in the pro game? Uh yeah, I mean obviously you cuz you can obviously you can relate to you watch it on TV and you know how hard some of the shots are and you know under the pressure or some of the putts or what whatsoever. So you kind of you get to feel that in in golf. That’s pretty rare in any sports. You you know you it’s you know kind of easier to relate on those guys because you kind of it’s still this the ball doesn’t move and it’s still the same shot. you know, you you know, and technically you’re supposed to be able to hit it every time, same times, but that’s it’s not so easy. So, yeah. I don’t know. I think I uh I I do enjoy watching it and definitely playing it. Yeah. I’m glad you said the ball doesn’t move. It just kind of lays there and taunts you. It just says, “Come on, just you just did it once. You should be able to do it again.” Uh and those guys play a completely different game than I mean, I know you’re good. Justin Williams is a legitimately good golfer and he knows that it’s a completely different game that he plays than the pros play. No. Yeah, definitely. No. Yeah, it’s it’s just it’s the levels when when you get to the pro level, it’s not even close. I mean, I I don’t care how uh how good you are at at your local, you know, club and uh stuff like that. It’s just another level. I think that’s uh I mean obviously you know top guys they they put so much time and effort for that. So I I it’s it’s you know naturally they’re better but uh yeah I think it’s uh you know also mentally they’re they’re really good at uh controlling the you know thoughts and how how they approach the game and obviously it’s it’s a lot different than hockey and uh but yeah I think it’s uh you know you I I find it interesting to to see how you know the best of the best how they’re mentally very strong. Yeah, you have to be. And uh the the tension like I I not to bring up hockey again, but sometimes you’re trying so hard to do something and your muscles kind of tense up. Man, if that happens in golf, you’re you’re absolutely toast. Sebastian is joining us here. So, talk to me. What What are you looking forward to tomorrow? I’m assuming you’re not going to Tampa tomorrow to play. I’m just going to get make that uh assumption here. Uh what are you looking for tomorrow? Will you be uh I know there’s going to be, you know, practice, but when practice is over, will you be going back to uh your house and watching the RDER Cup? Yeah, I’m definitely going to tune in. Um yeah, one of the better, if not that, well, yeah, one of the better uh golf tournaments to watch and obviously uh you know, it’s going to be a tight match and uh going to enjoy it. Are you rooting for Europe or the United States? What do you think? Of course Europe. I mean, I, you know, I I appreciate the Americans uh golf game and all that, but I mean, that’s just uh you can’t uh of course you’re going to root for Europe. It’s great answer. It was probably a dumb question, but I don’t know. I mean, you you half the year you live here, right? There’s no Fins. There’s no Fins playing. That’s That’s right. Yeah, that’s right. No, I mean Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that’s uh and I do like a lot of uh you know, Americans golf. They’re they’re uh they’re great, but obviously you can’t uh I think it’s just uh naturally you got to got to root for Europe. Do you have a uh do you have a favorite player that you will be following? Uh well, I mean, everyone loves watching Scotty Sheffler right now. Obviously, obviously he’s American. He’s uh we tried to beat him, but still enjoying watching him play. He’s uh he’s by far the best player right now. Um but I don’t know, team Europe uh we get some power, you know, we yeah, we got some some legit great players there. And uh I mentioned few who would I look actually uh interesting to see how uh Obury will do to do do this this tournament. He he was last Ryder Cup. He was good. And obviously I think uh he has a lot of potential to be uh even one of the best players in the world. So uh yeah kind of probably uh he’s one to watch. Same part of the world as Victor Havland is from not obviously not the same country. He’s uh he’s Norwegian. You’ve got a Swede. U is there any of that pull? Although I know that there are thin Swede rivalries uh certainly in hockey. Uh but there is there pull to somebody who is from that part of the world? Yeah, I think it’s cool. Obviously this season is different and I don’t I don’t know if uh well definitely not in Finland it’s it hasn’t been always uh big sport. Obviously it’s growing and I I assume it’s kind of similar with uh in Norway and Sweden. Um, so yeah, I think school there’s no rivalry in golf obviously between between the countries, but uh uh yeah, I think it’s uh just fun to fun to see that even even from countries like uh Norway and Sweden and hopefully one day from Finland as well there’s guys who competed in at the highest level. Yeah, I think uh who’s the best Finnish player right now? Is it like Miko Ilonin or uh Valamaki is a good player? Yeah. Yeah, Volaki probably takes the cake right now and hopefully hopefully he has some uh good years left and he can solidify BGA uh tour card and all that, but and also we had another guy who uh who did really good at the the British Open, but uh yeah, it obviously we’re hopefully uh that one of those guys will uh will become a star and it’s uh it’ll be make it even more fun to watch. What’s your handicap? Mine? Yeah. Oh, well, uh, it’s four, but I don’t know if, uh, it’s too accurate right now. I obviously haven’t played too too much, right? Uh, this past summer, but uh, yeah, I Yeah, it’s on the on the app it says four. So, let’s go with that. We’re going to have to go with four. Uh, obviously that’s that’s not too bad. Sebastian is joining us here. All right. Uh, what what is your favorite golf course to play? Oh, okay. I don’t know what uh what could be the saber. I mean, uh I do enjoy I did enjoy playing Pers number two. It’s It’s challenging. It’s definitely uh up there. Uh Riviera in LA. That That was cool. That was that was really cool, actually. Yeah, that’s probably uh that was a fun day, too. So, I don’t know. Probably uh one of those two. That’s uh that’s a very good one. Uh now, you do you play at all during the course of the reg of the hockey season or are the clubs somewhere in are they still in Finland? Are they in the are they in your garage? Uh when will the next time you play? Uh yeah, I mean definitely. Uh well this time of year you still should still play every every once in a while and uh I think we’re going to have like a team outing at some point here before the season starts but um uh yeah I mean it kind of depends of the guy. I don’t really usually play too much during the year whenever there’s like a little bit of a bigger gap between the games. So that’s basically not too many of those those uh during the throughout the year. So, but yeah, some guys like to play more, but I think it’s just uh preference and obviously if you go out there and sometimes I go play uh you know quick nine holes and and kind of get out of there during the year. It’s not uh it’s more of a definitely offseason sport for me and or offseason hobby I would say. But yeah, every once in a while I still like to uh go swim swinging. All right. Uh real uh real quick before I say goodbye. Uh, Sunday’s game is at home. It’s also the the uh the singles day at the RDER Cup. Um, do you have a plan because I’m going to guess that you’re might be in the lineup on Sunday because it’s the last home game. Uh, or maybe not, but do you have a plan for Sunday? Would did you try to get that game moved to like nine o’clock in the morning? Yeah, I mean I there’s not much I can do about that, but yeah, we’ll see. what uh what Rody will how the lineups will shape. But if there’s if there’s chance to watch, I’ll I’ll definitely tune in and if it’s time to play hockey, then it’s time to play hockey. So, but yeah, all the sacrifices that you have to make, Sebastian. I appreciate your time. Uh thanks for goofing off with me. Uh I’ll see you very soon. Uh be well and I’ll talk to you later. Awesome. Thanks for having me. You got it. Sebastian Auo here on the Adam Gold Show. I just like kidding around with him. Like, did was it was it that crazy a question that you’re rooting for? I guess it was. I guess it was. I love the answer. What are you talking about? What’s wrong with you? I know. That was perfect. All right. Well, you never know. That’s why you got to ask. That’s why. I know. It’s why. Okay. Very, very quick story. People know I’ve long time ago worked uh uh with Larry King when he was on the radio and I kid you not, Kenny G was actually a guest on the radio show. Kenny Kenny G for people who don’t know who Kenny G uh like what like clarinetist. It was Yeah, I think it was he played the clarinet. First question to Kenny G, kid you not. Why the clarinet? It’s a pretty simple question, right? I don’t know. Um, I just thought I’d ask. Yeah, it’s actually a saxophone, but Kenny G. Yeah, but it looks like a clarinet. Never mind. It’s It’s shaped weird like a clarinet. I’m telling you that that was Larry’s first question, though. And maybe I don’t remember the answer. I guess maybe Kenny was like, I don’t play. Maybe that set the tone. You dope. Um, I also have a story about the word dope and Larry King, but I’ll tell that uh off air. Um, the when I asked Sebastian player he likes watching, he went straight to Scotty Sheffller. Oh, see, I don’t know. I mean, he’s an American. May maybe it wasn’t such a dumb question after all. All right, we’ll break. When we come back, we’ll talk a little bit about UNC football. We have an uh an open week, which is probably good for everyone. Victoria producing the program. It was her idea to play one hit wonders today. Mhm. Yeah, it’s one hit wonder day. Na is national or international one hit wonder day. It’s probably international, but for us it it is what it is. We we don’t have enough bump songs for me to play all the good one wonders. There’s thousands. There’s so many. Like there really are so many. Uh, somebody sent a uh a tweet to me earlier. Uh, Come on, Eileene. Yes, that was one of them. That uh Dexis Midnight Runners, right? Uh, also uh My Chirona, the Knack. Yeah, I had that on a 45. Yes. Yes. It’s a good one. Too late to turn back now. That’s probably Is that the the entire name of the song or is it a smaller? might just be called Tuli. I don’t know. Uh I don’t don’t remember who that was. And Brandy looking glass. Oh man, that’s such a good one. Yeah, but it’s like at this point it’s like a cliche at this point. No, I’m with you. It’s Yes. It’s a one of the classic one hit wonders. I mean, right said Fred is on here. I’m too sexy. Uh men without hats, the safety dance. Oh yeah, that’s the video. I know in our YouTube stream we had Eggy Breaky Heart. Billy Billy Ray Cyrus didn’t have any other hits. I know. That’s what I was thinking. I thought he had one more, but maybe not. I’m sure he had other hits. Yeah, maybe. That’s all I can Nothing to that extent. I’m sure. Yeah. Godier, the Scooby-Doo song. I don’t know why they call it that, but Somebody I used to know. That’s another good one. There’s just so many. I I actually I should just play them tomorrow, too. Spillover. I know. It’s fun. There’s nothing wrong with that. Again, I’m I’m I’m trying to convince you. Put out your playlist. Yes, I have been keeping track. Okay. And then you’d have to explain why. Uh what Billy Joel song did you play? Moving out. I know. Uh yes, moving out. Yes. That was just cuz I’m here for the people, too. And it was a request, so I was trying I was trying to not ignore the request. But yeah, today’s one hit wonder day. Except for that one. Except for that part. Fantastic. Uh, all right. Um, just a very couple of very quick news items and just because I have we’ve been talking about it, we’re about an hour and a half away, a little bit less than an hour and a half away from um, Keegan Bradley and Luke Donald releasing who they’re uh, their who’s going to play in the morning tomorrow. The pairs, it’s uh, alternate shot. They call it forsomes during the RDER Cup. It’s a alternate shot tomorrow morning and then uh four balls in the afternoon where everybody plays their own ball and you out you go out with a with a partner. Um and they don’t know who the other team is throwing out. So Keegan Bradley will have uh we’ll guess here. Bryson Dashambo and Justin Thomas. They’ll be the first group out first pair out. He’ll have his four pairs and he’ll just they’ll unveil them one by one I’m sure. But anyway, he will not know who Luke Donald is putting out in his four sessions, his four uh matches. So, it’s sort it’s a blind draw. It’s kind of cool. I could argue that the way the President’s Cup does it is better for drama, for fun, where Keegan Bradley would throw a team out and then Luke Donald would go, you know what, I want these guys to play those guy. That’s to me, that’s the one thing the President’s Cup does a little bit better than the Ryder Cup. Either way, um the we’ll know them probably by 4:00 is roughly when I think they’re supposed to do it. Um hockey fans, Florida Panthers captain center Alexander Barkoff left practice hurt today. He had to be helped off the ice. They don’t know the extent of the injury. Uh as as a Hurricanes fan, I do not play the game of I want the other team to be compromised. Alexander Barkoff is one of my favorite players in the sport. I’ve had conversations with hockey people where look, I am not suggesting in any way that Barkoff is as good as Conor McDavid, Leon Dryidle, Nathan McKinnon. But if I had the first pick of every player in the league, I would take Alexander Barkoff. The combination of offense and defense for me is unmatched in the sport. Selfishly, I just like to watch that. It bothers me that we can’t handle it at times, but get in line. He’s that good. I hope he’s okay. I hope he’s okay. Um, but we won’t know. I think Paul Maurice after practice today, uh, Panthers coach Paul Maurice said we’ll know more tomorrow. Hopefully, he’ll be okay. But they’ve already got Matthew Kachchuck out until at least December. And I know we’ve talked about this, the salary cap issues that they will have when everybody’s healthy. We’ve sort of joked it’ll, you know, when Kachchuck comes back, they’re going to have to get rid of somebody unless somebody else is hurt. We don’t know what’s going to happen with Alexander Barkov. I hope he’s okay. Uh, but that would be a huge blow to Florida. And just keep in mind, I know it doesn’t seem like a lot more, but each series that you advance takes more out of you. Not obviously five, six, seven games more, but I think each game is worth more of a physical toll as you advance. So, three years in a row, the Florida Panthers have played just about the maximum aotment of games. Yeah. That means less time to recover. Yep. less time to recover, more wear and tear on your body, and you don’t know how it wears on you, how it adds up over time. So, again, I hope he’s uh okay. All right, let’s rewind. [Music] Adam Smith from Inside Carolina joined us to talk about the Tarheelss. And I wanted to start with what we saw on Saturday in Orlando at Central Florida. So, very simple question. How did they look to you? Um, not good. Um, you know, I mean, actually, if I’m going to uh toot my own little horn here, um, I wrote, well, there’s a bunch of stuff that I wrote, and one of them was it was kind of like an anvil over the head in terms of a reality check. I think what you were looking at was you you figured Carolina would lose to TCU, a a competent team with a very good quarterback. um that they would beat UNC Charlotte and Richmond as they did and then the season would sort of start in some ways with the UCF game which this is a a schedule with a bunch of toss up games and that looked like maybe a tossup game that you could win. I mean that I think UCF’s picked next to last in the Big 12. They’re they’re you know they’re they Gus Maine got the heck out of Dodge down there to go be FSU’s offensive coordinator. you know, they’ve obviously brought back Scott Frost, but you know, you looked at that game as um you know, like a 50/50 game maybe, and it was not a 50-50 game. I mean, they got beat down. Yeah, it was it was 27-3 in the second half when Gio Lopez got hurt. If if you add it all up, if you take their two they played two games against teams from power conferences, they’ve been outscored 82 to 23 in those two games. Um, you know, it was it wasn’t good. And I will tell you, maybe, you know, this is an entertainment show. I was think when you said, “How was how was UCF?” It was kind of fun the way that that that we went into the stadium from from where we’re staying. You go by all these these fraternity and sorority houses, right? Um, and the banners, the two road games that UNCC have play has played, the chance and the banners have not been kind to the Bellich, right, George Hudson relationship. Um, you know, they there was some signs about keep Bill away from the student section. Um, there are other signs that not fit for uh FCC approval probably. Um, you know, at UNC Charlotte, they had a chance. Uh, Bill likes freshman. Clap clap clap clap. still likes freshman. Um so, uh these teams that have been beating them have been enjoy enjoying beating them obviously. All right. Um all that stuff is expected and harmless. Just as a quick aside, there are those who are using some of the sideshow aspects of what we are dealing with the US Weekly cover, which is who is the real Jordan Hudson, which has nothing to do with football and I’m sure does not impact Bill at all. I’m sure he doesn’t spend two seconds thinking about it. It doesn’t delay him getting to the facilities for practice or anything, but because it is indirectly related to UNCC football, it is being used as another example as to why this will not work. And I fail to see that logic. I’m sorry. I just do. I am I am here to joke around as much as anybody. It’s what we do. But I I don’t think anything that Jordan Hudson does impacts anything that happens on the football field. If I think it does at some point, I will say it. But I don’t think it does. And it’s okay to think that this won’t work. And I’ve said from the beginning, you’re probably right. It does look bad. But US Weekly doing a feature on Jordan Hudson isn’t more proof. It just isn’t. All right. One more thing about it, and I want to go back to Adam Smith here. You may remember after the TCU game, we uh the Tar Hills are going to play go play Charlotte. I said then we will learn nothing from this game unless we do and it would be bad. He can make an argument we learned but we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and we learned nothing from their win over Richmond. Nothing. I thought all along the learning experience would be this past weekend. And here’s what I think we learned, and I will uh I’ll make this statement, then we’ll let Adam Smith pick it up. I think we learned that North Carolina doesn’t have very many good players. What say you? I I certainly think they need more talent. I mean, I after watching them for four games, I certainly think they’re they’re they could use more talent, obvious. I mean, who could, right? I don’t know if they’re going to beat FSU on Friday night, but they are, you know, they look great. Virginia does. Um Syracuse look great. Yeah, I know the Notre Dame transfer got hurt um at Clemson, but Syracuse has looked great. Um you know, Duke was good last year and I think people would agree they significantly upgraded at quarterback the way they won games last year. Um so I think you know I think Gio Le Lopez who I like I’ve enjoyed getting to know him. You know he’s he’s kind of been a bust so far through four games. you know that the right Carolina’s offense ag is just not in a good place. I was crunching the numbers the other day. They are on pace. If they keep this current pace, it’s going to be their fewest uh total yards per game, their worst total offense since like 1989 since since the Mac M 1.0. Um you know, they haven’t they haven’t forget throwing for 300 yards, they haven’t even thrown for 175 yards yet. Um, and and that’s another thing, you know, there’s a there’s a laundry list you can go down. Like there’s no there’s no there’s really no vertical passing game, you know. I think it’s 40 over 40% of Lopez’s completions have been behind the line of scrimmage. Yeah. Um, so yeah, I mean it’s it’s sure they need some more talent. I had I I you know, not to pick on them and and and rub it in their face, but we were sitting right beside of uh two NFL scouts from the Texans and the Dolphins the other day at UCF and I just was talking to them because I can be kind of a personable guy and they said that they were there to see UNCC because you know that this was their area and they they wanted to see UNCC. They do play Clemson, but Clemson obviously has been a disaster so far. Yeah, they have. Uh we’ll see if Clemson gets well next week. All right. Uh a couple of Hurricanes updates before we jump out of here. Canes are back on the ice tomorrow on the road at Tampa. Uh should be a very lightly used NHL roster. Uh mostly, you know, like the PTO guys will play, uh which will be the third time in a row for some of these guys. Uh I don’t think we’ll see too many NHLers. Anyway, uh Jacob Slavven was back at practice today. That’s great. Kandre Miller was back at practice today. Look at that. Yes. Still no Jaylen Chatfield. Pota Kachetkoff also was not at the practice session this morning. He’s he tweaked something according to the head coach, but it’s good to see Slavven who was in a non-cont yellow sweater as was Miller as was remaining um Mark Janowski. Uh slight change to one of the forward lines as Taylor Hall went on the right side of Logan Stanovven and Andre Spetchnikov and Jackson Blake dropped down to play with Yperry Cook and Amy and Eric Robinson. I’ve been saying this all along. That fourth line is really a third scoring line and it should score. I don’t care who’s there. Whether Taylor Hall is there or whether Jackson Blake is there, that line should score. And we will see uh what happens with center as we get further along into training camp. But Canes are in Tampa tomorrow. By the way, Slavin and Walker, Nikesha and Gostas Bear, Miller and Oliver Schillington, Mike Riley and Gavin Bay Ruther played together. Victoria, thank you very much. We’ll see everybody tomorrow on the Adam Gold Show. Rder Cup Day. Talking sports so you don’t have to pretend to no stop.
