Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals MLB game highlights (September 26, 2025)

Hey, welcome to Cubs baseball here on Marquee Sports Network. Coming up this afternoon, final Friday of the year in Wrigley, the Cards and the Cubs. The first of a three-game set. Yeah, it was not in the cards for St. Louis to get into the postseason, but was for the Cubs. And right now, the magic number is two for the Cubs to clinch home games in the wildard series. We know that Kyle Tucker, he is back in the lineup at DH, hitting fourth today. So, the corresponding move with him coming off the IIL, Carlos Santana, he has accepted an option to the Arizona complex. With the minor league season being over, he goes to the complex and so he will not be with the team this weekend. He will be on the taxi squad for the wild card series. During that option period, he will not be eligible to be recalled unless there is an injury or they advance to the next round of the playoffs. Now, as for that guy, Kyle Tucker, Craig Council said he asked him, “You don’t have to go 100% today.” Let the game dictate dictate that when it pushes you, you are good to go. They would not put him out there if he couldn’t go 100%. They just don’t want him to force it. They hope that this outing, he’ll gain confidence and just be good to go, guys. And today, that St. Louis lineup brought to you by Ford. It’ll go Nukear, Herrera, and Berles. Arenano is in the fourth spot. Gorman behind him to JC at short. Pahz, Walker, and Scott round out the lineup. Colin Ray this year, uh, second on the Cubs in both starts and innings pitch. Nobody saw that coming. 67.9% first pitch strikes. You see the major league average is a little better than 62%. And he has provided 52 free drinks at the corner tap room back in his hometown of Cascade, Iowa, because they give a free drink for every two strikeouts he records. Five and a third innings as N. Bar swings at the first pitch. Hat fighting the sun and makes the catch 22 swang and a miss struck him out. Ray gets the punch out with the four seamer at 95. Matt Shaw chipped in with a nice play as well. Colin Ray springs off the mound and throws out Burles. One, two, three go the Cardinals. Bottom of the first, here come the Cubs. Let’s check out the Cubs lineup brought to you by Finny’s Beverage Depot. Well, if you can’t find it at Benny’s, it’s probably not worth drinking. Bush her at hat. Tucker back in the lineup. First appearance since September 2nd. And he will DH Suzuki, PCA, Swanson, Maguire, and Shaw. Rounding out the lineup against Miles Michaels, an All-Star twice, 2018, and then again in 2022. And his 726.2 innings pitched since the start of 22, fifth best in MLB. So, he’s gone to the post. Line drive right field and charging in to make the catch is Jordan Walker. Claim a batting title. That’s drilled out towards left center field. That one back on its way. Gone Meer number seven. He goes off right there and it gives the Cubs a one- nothing lead. This run he has been on has been just one line drive after another. This time he elevates and goes deep for the seventh time. And if you’re Miles Michael, how do you not have that thought of uh-oh, here we go again. He gave up seven homer, excuse me, six home runs in his start here back on July 4th. Works. I see what you did. Yeah. Fourth of July. Mhm. Occasionally they’ll have fireworks. Home run replay is brought to you by Toyota, the official vehicle of the Chicago Cubs. A little sinker trying to run one in on him. Two two. That one rolled up along first. picked up by Berles and Tucker. And that one is cut on and foul. Tipped into the middle of Maguire back goes flying and it’s a strike out as Nick always hustling retrieves, hands it over. Everybody sprinting a slider here from Colin Ray. to JC. He doesn’t wear any batting gloves. I don’t believe Michael is ready and he got him swinging. Now, if nothing else, and you know, we can debate the merits of confidence, but if nothing else, you would think when you put those numbers up against a guy, you go into the batteries box feeling pretty good about yourself. Two of two. Ray swing and a miss and Walker down on strikes. A lot of run on that fast ball for Colin. Swang and a miss and a strike out for Colin Ray. And they’re drinking in the corner tap room. Strike out number four. This time it comes on the curve ball. So he’s doing it a variety of different ways. Bush backs up. Ray gets over. Colin taps the base and 1, two, three go the Cardinals. We’re midway in the third and it’s one- nothing. Cubs has thrown maybe too many strikes. Little tapper out to shorts to JC Fields. fires and they get Maguire. Corner down on strikes and the Cubs retired in the third. Caps went off here now. Doubling up upstairs. Struck him out and that’s five for Colin Ray. My goodness, you talk about a pitcher hitting his stride here late in the year. solid back of the rotation, all those things. Lately, he’s been a stud, no doubt. The third and Bush able to hang on to it in time. Shaw handles it and one, two, three go to Cardinals. Michael the 2-1 back to the mound. and half retired. Sold 25 of 28 this year. Line drive into center field. And that’s a base hit. Welcome back. Tuck. A little roll over ground ball. First time up. This time he stays through it. This is hammered right field. Way back. That one is gone. He Armstrong. He got him again. on the 4th of July. Took him deep twice and PCA goes yard off Michael for the fifth time in his career. Wow. Five home runs, nine at bats now for PCA against Miles. Michael is behind the mound screaming into his glove. Meanwhile, PCA will go through the gauntlet of love down there in the Cubs dugout. And welcome to the 3030 Club Armstrong. Really cool stuff. So PCA 3030. Swanson drives this one to center. Scott backing up against the wall. He makes the catch. He Armstrong a 3030 man. This home run replay brought to you by Hefty Hefty. Hefty ultra strong ultra low price ultra power for Pete Crow Armstrong. His 30th of the year. Petro Armstrong getting a really nice ovation as he made his way back out onto the field. The folks in the bleachers loving him and Pete saying thank you 3030 and he joins Sammy Sosa as the only two players to have 3030 seasons in Cub history. Sosa did it twice 93 and 95. Swanging a miss and Ray gets him along with Pete check. Swang did he go? Yes, you did. Struck him out. Congratulations are still in order for the newest member of the 3030 club. Just the second player in franchise history for the Cubs. You can see Matt Jaw, Sea Suzuki, BP Caba, Danny Mueller, I saw John Mey, Ian Hap on off camera. And so just when you accomplish a feat like that, your teammates recognize and you could see just the joy and almost relief from PCA that he did do it. Swing and a miss. Shaw is gone. Two away. Padres’s losses that adds up to that will do. High drive center field. Scott is back at the wall. Number 32. Rub your belly. And Michael Bush will touch them all. Leads the team in home runs. And a towering blast to center. It’s 4 nothing. That’s his third home run off Michael this year. He got two back on the 4th of July in his free home run game. This is just a really good plate appearance, man. He laid off some tough pitches. Wouldn’t chase. Got a fast ball to his liking up and go straight away center field back up the middle and there’s Nico and they are able to get Walker. Ben made a second base umpire called it out on the catch on the line drive. Nico just to be sure went ahead and threw the ball to first in all facets of baseball be introduced that took him to 47 and 38. High drive knocked down by Swanson. Everybody will be safe. Herrera with a base hit. That was off the edge and now they’re loaded. Base is loaded. Two down. Got it. Dealbar strikes him out and the Cardinals leave him loaded. The guy that caught it or that ended up getting it line drive base hit into right field. Suzuki will take that out of the corner. Gorman into second and right-hander has done very good work. Try drive into center field. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That was a good slider. Ground ball base hit left field. Walker an RBI single. The Cardinals on the board as Gorman comes in and it’s 4-1. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Scott is gone and there’s two away. Second strike out for Kitridge. They both come with that slider. One, two. Got him. Swinging. Kitridge able to strike out Duke. The Cardinals get on the board. 3-2. And that’s ball four. Grappo wanted it. Bill Miller wouldn’t give it to him. Brother takes off. Throw to second. Tag. Too late. Gansby with a stolen base and that is number 19. He’s swiped 19 of 22. Shaw laces that one towards the corner. Fair ball and that’s going to score. Dansby is to second. He’s racing for third. Here’s the throw. That’s a triple. 51 talking speed earlier with the Scott PCA and don’t sell Matt Shaw short. He can really fly. Insurance runs are brought to you by Gallagher helping you face your future with confidence. Got a breaking ball down, leans on it, whacks it into the corner. 355, the deepest corners in MLB here at Wrigley Field. Normally you wouldn’t see a triple to left field like that line drive right field bear ball into the corner push around first and Michael will drop anchor at second. It’s an RBI double. It’s 61. The Cubs offense has found its legs the last few games. Yeah, nice response after the Cardinals get on the board. about get two and they’re looking for more. This double is brought to you by Elgen Hyundai over the 20 year and 200,000 mi warranty on every new car. Home run double last two trips for Michael Bush stays back nicely on that curve ball. So Gordon Proppo giving up backto- back extra base hits up the middle and that one is smothered by Saji and he saved the run. Base hit go her and BCH stops at third back in his Dodger days. Breaks his back and that’s the other way and it’ll score run. out of play. Half the RBI single and it comes on top 71 as Bush crosses Nico to second. Oh my. Not a whole lot left in his hands, but he gets an RBI knock out of it. Three and two. And that one missing way inside. All loaded up. Sea awaits. Roy Croft. Highf fly ball left field way back out of here. Sea Suzuki’s gotten hot. Two homers last night. A grand slam here today. And it is all Cubs. Number 30 for Seya. Run number four today for the Cubs. Come with the bases loaded. A grand slam for Suzuki. We’re looking for some positive signs as we head to the postseason the last two games for him. 30 homer season, a grand slam here today. A pretty good shot. Look out back up the middle. Spun his cat and Mo Bowler with a base hit. I think he’s got a pretty good shot to make the postseason roster. Yeah, because he can do that. Yeah. Come off the bench and hit you a line drive. Line drive. That’s a base hit out into right center. A Contra knocks home by Asteros. Two of the Baby Bears coming through. And it’s 12-1. Baby Bears. hasn’t had many opportunities since his recall, but does a nice job here. Congratulations to Pete. Popped up and this will do it. Swanson Dansby has it. ball game comes with and the magic number to clinch home field for the wild card series down to one. Sing the song. Heat. Heat. Yeah. Heat. Heat up here.
