Kraken ownership probably saw the writing on the wall for Root Sports when they desided to create the Kraken Hockey Network and partner with Amazon Prime to broadcast games last year. If they had stuck with Root Sports they might have been left scrambling this summer.
Here's the post from last year talking about the move off Root Sports.

Yeah, when I saw this earlier I heaved a big sigh of relief that KHN exists and that it’s doing incredibly well.
Trailblazers dipped a few months after too, Root’s been running on fumes.
Good. F**k the RSN system and every greedy corporate shill that thought it was a great idea to try and monopolize regional sports team television coverage.
My internet is too shit to sail the high seas. I’m a fan of the Kraken, Seahawks and Mariners. Been paying for fubo full time. Is there a better way for me to watch all three?
Also I should be in the market, I’d think. I grew up in Seattle, but I live on the peninsula now
I’m sure this made business sense for the M’s but I’m glad they gave up on this model one way or the other. I’m old enough to remember when they took their games of free local TV and it really sucked for fans. Same when the Sonics did it too. I was really happy when the Kraken jumped ship last season.
Finally!!! I’m so tired of being blacked out because I live state away
Good riddance.
Good. Putting games on OTA TV is way better for growing your fanbase than gouging cable subscribers for every last dime through a shitty RSN.
