Minnesota Vikings Team Press Conferences | Week 1 vs. Chicago Bears | Wednesday, September 3

first Monday night game, man. I don’t see how you don’t get excited for it. So, um I’m just excited to be a division opponent, too. Obviously, going in a hostile environment. Um just ready to go put on the show. Their head coach was, of course, offensive coordinator in Detroit. You study a lot of that stuff. How do you go about that when you’re in your position? Yeah, a little both. Um go back to obviously he was in Detroit. Um and they’re obviously going to try to marry some things that he did in the past uh in Chicago before so that way they can try to not over confuse the guys, but I think they’re still going to be trying to run the football. Um, obviously just set the tone on that aspect and build off of that. You got some new guys in the defensive line. How does that affect what you do? One more time. Sorry. So, you got a lot of new guys in the defensive line that’ll be starting to play a lot of minutes. How does that affect what you do? Uh, nothing. Yeah. I just do my job. Um, they’re going to make my job easier, but they’re going to come in and do their part um like they’ve been doing in the past. Um, but my mindset doesn’t change no matter who is in there. Um, they going to have to match what we got going. Body feels healthy, ready to go. Uh, now it’s just all preparation and excitement up until Monday. I was going to ask training camp’s done. You know, it’s week one. It just What is the feeling around here? Does it feel kind of like the first day of school in a way? A little bit. Uh, you know, I feel like the older you get as a player, the sooner you’re you’re ready for the season in some way. But, um, yeah, guys feel confident, prepared, ready to go, and just really excited uh for the season ahead. Monday night is waiting till the end of the week. I I know you guys don’t have control over the schedule, but does it do you wish it was sooner than than Monday night? Well, I will say um whenever you can play prime time, I think it’s it’s a privilege. Uh and you know, it’s something very exciting, especially for you know, our rookies, younger players. Um but, you know, after the season we had last year, you know, you you want a lot of prime time games. Um you got to you got to earn those, you know. So, um, you know, I I think with the excitement, you you want to get out there as soon as possible just because with training camp preseason, it can get long, but, um, you know, we’re never going to complain with a little extra time to prepare, especially against a divisional opponent. What do you think about when you think of the Bears? Just Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams. I mean, it’s kind of a little bit of an element of unknown, but they could be kind of a a whole new team in a way. Like, what do you think when you think about the Bears? Yeah, a lot of respect. I think that’s going to be a good marriage between Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams. I think he’s a a terrific talent. Uh he’s going to be a special player in this league. And Ben Johnson’s a mastermind. Uh he’s found ways to uh hurt us. And so we have to do everything we can um to be ready to go um not just mentally, but physically because uh he’s going to test us in all areas of the field. Feeling good, man. Um just just trusting everything, having confidence in myself. Uh it’s really just just taking it a day at a time. Um my confidence is growing each and every day just being on the field. Training camp went amazing. Um and everything’s been progressing really well. What do you think about Monday night? Is there a chance you could be out there? I’m just worried about today. Sure. Um but there there is a day that that when that needs to be answered and when that day comes, it will get answered and and we’ll move on from there. Whether you’re out there or not, the Bears, what do you think about them? I mean, Ben Johnson, Caleb Willie, I mean, they just seem like a a new team, a new vibe in No doubt. Uh we respect all of our opponents and uh Chicago, we we know uh the challenges that they present and um Ben Johnson, he’s a great coach. Uh we seen what he did in Detroit, not to live on the past, but I know he’s going to bring that coach over there, but uh KO is going to have us doubt and ready. Um him, West, and uh Blo, they’re going to have us flying around and we’ll be ready to go. I wanted to ask, what was the reaction when Micah Parsons got traded to Green Bay just for you guys on the offensive line? Yeah, man. Uh we had Dallas on the schedule this year, so uh we knew we was going to have to face him at some point. Um, but it’s it’s always a it’s a challenge week to week with these pass rushers and and and it’s just a great opportunity. Uh, and that’s how we view it. Um, it was definitely shocking uh to see a guy like that get traded at at the level he’s been playing at. I mean, he’s he’s a great player. Uh, so we’ll be ready to go once we once we cross that path, but uh this week we’re worried about the Bears. Christian, do you guys do you guys like having an NFC North team right out the gate just as a team? Whoever whoever they schedule us to play, um, we’ll be ready to go. Uh so um yeah, kind of getting that division that division rivalry. Uh we we like whoever they schedule us to play. Does McCarthy seem poised, man? I felt like he was poised last year before before the injury, man. And he hasn’t missed a beat since he came back. His leadership um just just the way he goes about his business day in and day out, man. You see it and uh he’s definitely very confident and as long as we do our job up front, just to give him that time and and give him that peace of mind, uh we know that place is going to be rocking. So, whatever we got to do to make his job easier, we need to do, but he’ll be ready to go. Uh, so tell me what you got going here against Chicago. He’s study, you know, the Barrels from last year. You know, they got a new head coach as an offensive coordinator. See, know quite a bit about him. I guess it’s just trying to figure out where where those two come together, huh? Definitely great coach over there. Obviously, we know where he comes from and obviously they have a great offense over there. They got weapons. Uh, we know Caleb’s a good quarterback as well. So, just excited for Monday night. Uh, I know we’re prepared. We’re ready. So, I’m just excited for us to go out there and obviously show the world what we do. Can you tell if you’ve had a good training camp or not? Can you tell going in when you know they rest guys so much and you It’s hard for the the fans and the people from the outside looking in. Can you tell if it’s a good camp and you’ve accomplished everything you wanted to? I would definitely say we had a good camp. Um obviously, you know, we got to go out there and show it, but I think we obviously improved in a lot of things. We started out with obviously guys, you know, just, you know, figuring out the defense, newer guys coming in, obviously, you know, taking that big step already, captains and all that type of stuff. So, I just feel like we had a great camp and it’s ready to go show Monday. So, I think we’re going to have a great Monday. Which Go ahead. Which matchup are you most excited for on Monday night? Uh, obviously DJ Moore. Um, I feel like, you know, last year made a couple plays on us as well. Obviously, he’s a great receiver in this league. Uh, but I definitely just ready, excited to go out there and obviously guard one of the best receivers in the game. Byron, I know you’re going to be up for whatever team they put you against week one, but do you guys like having a division opponent right out of the gate? Uh, definitely whatever. You know, obviously any Sunday we’re excited to have whoever it is, but obviously division game means a little bit more. Uh, this a game we got to go win. Obviously, it’s on the road, but we got to go out there, you know, do our job. Like I said, this game just means more cuz obviously it’s a division game. So, we’re going we’re really excited about this game. Why did you win so many close games last year, do you think? Um, you said why we’re in As you look back, why did you win so many? Was there something that you saw in the fourth quarter, you know, some some that you after you had a chance to look at it and said, “This is why we got to 14.” You know, other than guys just making plays. I just feel like, you know, guys were just locked in um all four quarters and that’s what it comes down to this game. You know, it’s all in, you know, game of inches. So obviously I feel like guys were just locked in, you know, to that last whistle. And obviously you got to make plays until the game’s over. And the game’s never over in this league. You never know what happened. So we just I feel like everybody was just locked in on the same, you know, same page. So we just got it done. You know, it’s definitely a lot of uh good energy going, you know, that week one, you know, coming off fall camp, you know, grind mode, you know, banging with the same, you know, the same guys and stuff like that. You know, it’s time to go, you know, impose on on another team. So you know, week one, you know, it’s a lot of energy going into that game and, uh, you know, we’re preparing the right way this week. You know, going in with positive thoughts. They got a coach that you’re familiar with when he was with a different team before. Yes, sir. How does that, you know, when when you look at teams obviously their coordinator, that’s kind of him, right? Yeah. You know, Ben, uh, you know, he’s Ben Johnson is a very good head coach, you know, offensive minded coach. Uh, you know, we’ve seen him in Detroit, but we’re familiar with his game and, uh, you know, game planning the right way, you know, uh, preparing what to expect on Monday, you know, and just, uh, you know, collecting good days and, uh, stacking days in practice. How are you different, you know, as opposed to the first time you go through this? uh you know just kind of know what to expect. Um you know having a lot more time you know to break down stuff and understand you know uh you know just the offensive game you know at this level and uh you know just seeing different offenses you know just being in that film book I mean film on the iPad and stuff like that you know really just uh the stacking days honestly you know just fixing all stuff you know that uh that needed to be fixed on last year and uh just being consistent you know putting in work every day. Training camp’s done man today was you know it’s the regular season. What what’s it been like? Just is it slowing down at all? Yeah, I know. Um, you go through training camp and you go through the ups and downs of being a rookie, but near the end of it, you come out like it’s just football. And, you know, I feel like I train against some of the best guys who, um, coach me up and make sure I get better every day. And I have a great coaching staff around me. So, I’ve had a lot of fun just, uh, experiencing the, you know, the highest level of football and, uh, living out a dream. What do you think running out of the tunnel Monday night in Chicago? What do you think that’s going to feel like for you? I mean, uh, I feel like I’ve gotten all the, uh, emotions out during the preseason running out at US Bank Stadium. Now, it’s just time to play football, man. You know, that’s the fun part. That’s the exciting part. So, I’m looking forward to go looking forward to go out there with my team and just uh, execute. I know it’s week one, but what do you see your role as uh, as the season, the regular season gets going here? Uh, my role coming to the regular season is just doing my job, man. What whether that whatever that may be, I’m going to do my job to the best of my ability. That’s what I was brought in to do. And that’s what I’m going to do to the best of my ability.

  1. you should include the player name and their position at the start of each individual press conference clip. it would help newer fans who are trying to get to know the team better.

  2. See the tone change when Darrisaw was asked about JJ. Joking and smiling about the division rivalry question. Then asked about JJ, and all serious and immediate respect – " Man, I felt like he was poised last year before the injury…"
