D-backs vs. Padres Game Highlights (9/26/25) | MLB Highlights

Game 160 in the 2025 regular season as the Padres’s welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks to town. Playoff stuff on the line for both teams as the Padres’s look to finish strong prior to their wildcard series against the Chicago Cubs. On the about Hugh Darish somewhat of an audition who’s going to be game two starter. Stay tuned to that. A lot of baseball Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. 15 start for you. Got to turn it around. Dallas hit in six straight games. He’s got four doubles and a home run over that stretch. He’s been a hot bat in this lineup last couple this season. Marte gets this one deep to right and this is going to go. Kel Marte gets it started in San Diego. Not wasting any time whatsoever. Ambush. Vargas tries to throw that sinker inside. It tailed right back over the inner third of the plate right where Catel likes it. A no doubter to right field. That was just under 107 off the bat. It went 410 ft. the 27th for Catel and the Diamondback strike first. Right-hander Zack Gallon making his 33rd start this season and possibly his final appearance as a Diamondback. And for Zach personally, you know, he would like to win this ball game tonight. Get the winning decision and finish the season at 14 and 14. One down for Luis Arise. 288 to start the night for Arise to right and Carol can’t get there to the track and the walls. the rise heads for second base. Got himself a one out double and now a 14game hitting streak. He turns on it as well. He’ll get the hands in. Get that barrel to the baseball. Get it out there. So it’s second with one away. And here is Matty Machado. And he drive this deep to center. Alec Thomas backing up and he’s got it. The rise was 3/4 of the way to third base and has to hustle back to second. Alec Thomas deep in center able to run that one down. Two down here in the first and here’s Jackson Merrill 32 swinging a miss. He is down on strikes. Gallon strikes out two and a scoreless first and we go to the second. Diamondbacks one and a Padres’s nothing. A leadoff walk is James McCann the catcher swings at the O2 and strikes out instead. That’ll work. Slider that time from Darish’s first K of the night. That was a perfect example of lower arm angle. Kind of a bigger break on that breaking ball for the swing and miss. It’s a dandy. One on, one out for Alec Thomas. Car goes and the throw going to be caught. Stay. Got him. Freddie for me. The firminator says no. Fires a seed down there to second base. Oh, that was beautiful. Beautiful all the way around. Base is empty. Two outs. Two and two to Thomas. Taken right down the middle. Strike three called and backto backs for Darnish in a scoreless second inning. Nick McCarthy in left field tonight. Jake Bats Knight. tried to avoid the deep counts. Uh particularly the full counts tonight for you Darvish. It’s another one right here. The leg kick at the top and McCarthy hammers one way back and gone. Wow. You wanted Jake McCarthy going. There it goes. That’s the fourth for Jake and it’s two nothing Diamondbacks. They’ve homerred twice against Darage. Boy, he crushed that thing. He sure did. That was a no doubter. That hit above the eyeway out there in right field. 423 ft. It left the bat at 109. Yikes. Deep into the San Diego Knight. One away, a run in. And second time through this Diamondbacks order. Ronaldo Permo fly out to left field in the first. 0 for one. Lind to right. Buck goes Fernando. And that’s going to be off the bottom of the wall. Ricochet is nasty and by him. So Purdomo taking three. Throw is headed in that direction. He will be out at third. tried to leg out a triple and is gunned down at third base. Great job by Jackson Merrill to get there and we’re going to hang a star as he throws Purdomo out trying to turn a double into a triple. That is what happens when you’re where you’re supposed to be. So one away for Gallon. He’s worked his way through this lineup one time and here is the leadoff hitter Fernando Tantis Jr. Tatis lifts this toward the right field foul pole. Corbin Carols on the run and he got it in foul ground. Corbin disappears into the corner and comes out holding the baseball. A sliding grab in foul territory by Corbin Carroll. And backto-back one out singles by Sheets Bogarts had put a couple of guys on board with one out here in the bottom of the fourth inning. Hearn riding a sixgame hitting streak at 500. Roll for 24. He’s been hot on the ground right side in the right field. The base hit being lured around. The throw will be cut off and the Padres’s are on the board. It’s two to one. Tying run now just 90 ft away. Three straight hits to right field for San Diego and a run. Second walk handed out by Gallon. Loads the bases for the Padres’s here in the fourth inning. You miss three games, there’s some rhythm that you lose a little bit. Crowdy working through that right now. Tatis will be the seventh guy to bat this inning for the Padres’s. So far, they’ve got only the one run. And now it’s really time to party with two outs, a full count, bases loaded, and everybody on the move. High deep grand slam. Fernando Tatis Jr. One swing in the bat. 52 San Diego. Fernando plays in Slam Diego. Capacity crowd at Petco Park on their feet and the Padres’s lead it 5-2 here in the fourth. Allen got away with about three mistakes prior to that one. He did not get away with the fourth. Moments ago, Fernando heading back out to his spot right field. They salute him and he salutes him right back. His grand slam has given the Padres’s a 5-2 lead. To the fifth we go. Vargas leading it off here for Arizona to right field. Back goes Fernando. He leaps in the air. Can’t get it. Gets it on a hop as Vargas heads to second. Throw will be late and a double. Begin thinks here in the fifth inning for the Dbacks. Paul is under review. I’m not sure what’s under review about it. We’ll take a look as he does the popup slide. Oh, out. And it’s tagged out. I got out. Donnie, what do you got? I got out. There you go. All right. Nice job all the way around. Fernando getting that ball in. Xander keeping the tag on the runner. Jimmy McHugh down in the review room down there with the Padres’s. It’s all good. Great call. Mike Schil is happy. No base runners for the Dun Backs. Two down. Purdomo at second. It was Catel Marte. Homerred back in the first inning. We have seen Darbish come out somewhere around the 80 pitch mark on a pretty regular basis. This will be pitch 79 of his outing. And it’s to left. Sheets will move back a step and makes the catch. It’ll end the inning. So Darish gets through five. It’s 52 San Diego. Here comes Tory Lavell. And this might be the end of Zack Gallon’s Diamondback career. Well, let’s give Zack Gallon a tremendous amount of credit. He has been brilliant these last two months. He didn’t give up on himself. He turned his season around. And if this is his last moment as a Diamondback, we want to say thank you. A new pitcher into the game, Philip Abner. With the bases loaded again, bases loaded, two down for Jake Cronorth. And out to the warning track and left in the second. Struck out looking in the fourth inning. very high to walk in a run. From third base comes Machado. Padres will take a 6-2 lead. Conor the pick up an RBI. The base is loaded. W. You’ve got Marte at third. Lays at first. Two down and Del Castillo will bat for McCann. And that’s ball four. Here comes Tim Tawa. And with two outs, the Diamondbacks in the eighth inning have the tying run at the plate. Third walk in the inning from Padre Pitchers. And Tawa has a chance here. I mean, there was nothing anywhere near the zone. You see Morgan frustrated as he walks in a run. That was almost like a pitcher right there. That’s why I asked it. I know it doesn’t make any sense, but boy did he I mean, none of those pitches were close. Four walks in the inning. And now here comes Vargas. The tying runs are aboard. And the Boobirds are out at Petco. It’s three and one on Vargas. Both four. Morgan has walked three consecutive batters. He’s walked in two runs and suddenly a base hit can tie the ball game and the bases are still full. Five walks in the inning from Padre pitchers and Mike Schil is going to go to the big boy Mason Miller. Base is reloaded here for the Diamondbacks. They’ve got two so far here in the eighth. Five walks in the inning for Padres’s pitching. And Mason Miller into the game. He struck him out. Go to the fast ball to get it done. Two runs, no hits, five walks. That’s first and second with two down. Diamondbacks trying to do their best to keep this a two-run deficit. Jackson Merrill 0 for four. Line to right and a base hit. A rise coming around from second. Carol’s throw. Playward will be late. Padres’s out of run. Take a 74 lead. All this with two outs and Jackson Merrill drives in an insurance run for the faithful stand as one at Petco Park in San Diego with two down in the ninth. Popped up first base. A rise moving to the outfield line. will make the catch and the Padres’s one. And the Diamondbacks have been eliminated from the postseason in 2025. [Applause]

  1. They were near the bottom but made a comeback, but not quite enough of a comeback. Nice try Diamond Backs. Look forward to seeing you play next year. If you can, win at least one more game in 2025. ❀ πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
