🔴LIVE 🔴Detroit tigers VS Boston Red Sox /September 16/ Baseball Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

ML show with a good one coming at you. It’s the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox. Joined by my partner Chris Singleton. I’m John Shami. Well, Singy, when you consider the top hitters ballparks in the sport, this has got to be one of them. I’ll say this, pitchers have to stay with their game. They can’t look over their shoulder and think, I have to be fine and perfect on every pitch. Continue to pitch to your strengths and you’ll come out of here with a good outing. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. So, just about set now. Getting the nod on the mound. Brian Beo, what do we need to know here? Well, that whip is just below the league average, and that’s a good thing in this case. Not allowing too many base runners. So, on most days, he’s going to go out there and compete and put his team in a position to win. And I expect to see that from him in this one today. Here’s Jamai Jones. Not close with that one. And we’re underway here this afternoon. Next pitch is downstairs. the other way and foul ball. Back to the mound. He’s got it. Gets it to first. One up, one down. Let’s take a check of the Tigers lineup. Bad exec. A really important guy for them. Glbert Torres. Well, he’s an important part of this lineup for sure. I mean, there’s no doubt about it, Boo. It’s somebody that they try to feed off of. He does a lot of things, you know, very well up there at the plate. He’s got a presence about him, and, you know, he’s a guy that you really kind of like to watch swing the bat. Boston. Glabber Torres in the box with one away as he takes ball one. Swing and a miss. Strike one on the ground to the left. Gets to it with a slide over to first. It’s there and that’s a great play. Just so impressed with the movement on that play. Footwork was excellent. The arm strength was there and of course the most important part was getting the out. Wel Perez getting ready to hit and first offering is fouled off. Perez in his second season hitting third in the lineup and he was born in the Dominican Republic. Ground ball right side. Oh yeah. Takes it himself and the Tigers retired. One, two, three. Tigers fail to make any noise. And now the Red Sox get their turn. No score. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back now at Venway and towing the slab, Brandt Herder. What’s the word on him? Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. At the plate, Jiren Durant. First pitch misses. [Applause] it on the ground to short Bayz. Now the throw to first on the run and very nicely done for the out. Time now to check out the lineup for the Boston Red Sox. One thing these players do very well is stay out of the double play. They’ve hit into the fewest of any team in the league, Chris. Well, Boo, we don’t see situational hitting as that art as much as we used to because hitters are slugging the ball. They’re hitting it over the fence. But when you see a team that has the ability to shorten up, hit behind runners and go first to third or first to home. Man, that just adds to the element of what you’re able to do in other ways with the bat. So, posing pitcher better not walk anybody or give them free base runners because these hitters know what to do when runners are on. And a couple of quick outs. One of my favorite stats all time. 1997 the Hall of Famer Craig Bio played in all 162 games for the Astros on Astro Turf and he never hit into a double play. Alex Bregman stands in with two away as he takes a ball. That’s down and in. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Well, don’t expect too many more high fast balls. This is a good sinker ball pitcher and sometimes they can make mistakes trying to pitch up in the zone. Look for him to stay down around the knees to be effective. And the 2- two fouled off and they’ll do it again. Two out. Base is empty. And they’ll do it again. Pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss. Third foul ball in a row. Up the middle. Torres. Three up, three down. Inning over. Red Sox go down quietly. Scoreless after one. All set for the start of the inning. And here’s the first baseman, Spencer Torqulson. Beo back to work. Check swing and he went 0 and one. Clyde Washington doing the umpiring behind the dish in this one. Sometimes considered a bit of a pitcher umpire thingy. He likes the low ball, which traditionally favors pitching, but you know, hitters today are pretty good at dropping their barrel down, so we’ll see how it goes in this one. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. And he hits a ground ball right side, but it kicks foul. cut on and miss. Struck him out and there’s one away. Here’s Riley Green. It’s been a tough stretch for him at the plate. Barely hitting over the Mendoza line this month. And that misses one and0. One down, base is empty. That just misses and the count is 2 and 0. Second inning here. No score. Well struck right field. That one hops against the fence and he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Everything came together for him. A well-deserved double on a great swing. Got everything going on time. He stayed balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position and next up for the Tigers Andy Abanz outside low and that’s ball one. One out and a runner at second. Inside now two and 0. Well, this is a little tough for the hitter in the back of the mind. You’re wondering with first base open, am I going to get a pitch to hit? Got to stay back. Let your hands work. Stay in the middle of the field. That to right. Ref. Snider gets there. He’s under it. Makes the grab. Runner tags at second and he’s up to third safely with two gone. Now a chance for Dylan Dingler. This at bat might not seem like a huge deal right now, but baseball is a game of moments and what happens here could change everything. Swing and a miss as he was out front. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it and just misses with that one. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. That one misses. Two and two. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. And now it’s filled up. Strike him out. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. Bottom of the second, Joe stepping in for Boston. Masataka Yoshida. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. What you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate. Try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. Check swing went around. Strike one. Thinking about Yoshida, he’s never going to be the biggest player when he’s on the field, but that doesn’t mean he can’t hit. He gets on base and doesn’t strike out very often. That combo makes you a valuable asset to your club. Fought off foul. Next offering way off the plate in the air left field down the line and a foul ball. The lefty fires swing and a miss. struck him out and there’s one away. Romy Gonzalez up next for the Red Sox. Gonzalez. There’s a swing and a drive and that one hops the wall safely into second. He’s got a double. He was all over that one. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. [Applause] One out, runner at second. Son Raphaela up next for the Red Sox. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. just missed. As a pitcher, you know, the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run, so you really have to execute on the mound. Yeah, that’s fouled off. ball outside. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. Nathaniel Low in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] ripped on a line to center. Two away now. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. Here’s Nathaniel Low singing. When the year’s over, he’ll have a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. Misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. [Applause] top of the zone for a called strike. Runner at second. Two down. Bottom half of inning number two. You got this. On the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. A double in the inning, but they leave him stranded. We head on down to the top of the third. No score. New inning getting started. Here’s the center fielder, Parker Meadows. Meadows. [Music] Go and one. Tap foul at the plate. hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance, get him out of there, and deal with the next guy. And now it’s Bayz and a foul ball. If they did a poll of top tattoos in Major League Baseball, Jav Bayz, I think, would have to be in the top five. Right on the back of his neck is the Major League Baseball logo. So, it’s effectively right under the MLB logo that’s on his cap. And a foul ball. And there’s a ball. One out. Base is empty. That misses the zone. The countdown two and two. Good job to fight that one off in the air. right field [Applause] makes the catch and there’s two away. Up next for the Tigers, the designated hitter, Jamai Jones. Jamai Jones the next to hit. Grounded out back to the pitcher his first time. That’s in there and it’s 0 and one. That’s a little bit low. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Tigers are shut down there and we’re still knotted at zero. And we’re back here in Fenway Park as we go to the last of the third. And stepping in for Boston, Rob Ref Snider. And that one upstairs, ball one. Next offering upstairs, swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. He won’t get there. That should be extra bases into second easily with a leadoff double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. A lot of times in today’s game, right fielders are able to get to a ball that stays in like that, but he hit that one pretty well. And if he hits it just a little bit different on the barrel, it’s out of here easily. But there’s nothing wrong with the extra bases right there. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Here’s the speedy catcher, Connor Wong. Swinging a foul out of play. Ref. Snider leads off second with nobody out. [Applause] That misses the zone. And now it’s even one and one. [Applause] That one way inside man at second. That clips a corner. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone. Still tied at zero. Last of the third. Worm Burner into the outfield for a knock heading for the plate. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single and it’s one- nothing. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Now batting Jiren Durant out his first time. That one misses ball one and downstairs. Next offering is down low. [Applause] And ball four, two aboard. Base knock and now a free pass. This has the makings of a big inning if they can get a couple more quality at bats. First and second, no outs. your story now. He’s 0 for one. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond, and this guy is at the top of the list. That one misses. That’s five straight. Yeah, we go beyond just the, you know, fielding percentage and, you know, what it looks like, but the ability to have range and, you know, close holes that, you know, are normally there against an average defender. But this guy is special and you can see it in his first step quickness. [Applause] Booen, the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hittingwise, you can struggle. You can lose your mechanics, but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Dingler makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting third baseman Alex Bregman. Now it’s Alex Bregman. Rolled out to second in his first at bat [Applause] at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play. Boo. Next offering is downstairs. Way to lay off that pitch down and that one is lifted in the air. He’s got it. Runner tags at second and he moves up a base. So two away with runners at the corners. Masataka Yoshida digs in now. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. And that one fouled off. [Applause] Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third and that one fouled off. Go and chew now and delivers outside. Two on, two outs. [Applause] That’s off the inside corner and the count’s even at two. ground ball to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back inside Fenway Park. John Shambi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Glabber Torres. And he grounds one to the right side. Throws to first in time. One up, one down. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. Wel Perez now at the plate. Grounded out his first time up. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. The Red Sox with some bullpen action. Zack Kelly getting loose out there. Murphy warming up as well. Red. [Music] One down. Base is empty. Foul ball. Still 0 and two. Now a check swing, but he held up. fights that one away. Still one and two. Holding on to a one-run lead. Top half of inning number four. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Now batting the first base. Dominant performance for him today. Boo. Just two hits allowed so far. No runs across either. And he’s had an answer for just about every hitter he’s faced. So I don’t think this hit is going to knock him off his stride too much. One gone runner at first. Spencer Torqulson up now for the Tigers. That misses the zone. And that is ball one. And that is out of play. Just missed. If he’s able to connect on that, look out. [Applause] Falling behind. Two and one. And that one upstairs. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. Perez over at first with one away. Check swing and he went three and two now. Got him. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. It’s a good breaking ball there just off the corner where you can’t really do much damage, but it’s close enough to where you got to protect and he just couldn’t find a way to fight it off. Riley Green up now for the Tigers. Doubled in his first AB and ball one. Right now they’re looking for something. Hit hard into the gaps. Give them an opportunity with two outs to score that run from first. That one is blasted left field towards the monster and it bangs off the monster. Rounds third headed for the plate. The relay and he’s safe. Tie ball game. Oh, that’s a lonely feeling for an outfielder. The read wasn’t great and it really hurts when it cost your team a run. Go ahead run on base. And up next for Detroit, Andy Abanz flyed to right his first time. Ball one, no strikes. line drive. That’s a base hit. Runner around third on his way to the plate. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single and a 21 ball game now. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch runscoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Now, here’s the Detroit catcher Dylan Dingler. Struck out swinging his first time. On the ground to third. Bregman to first. And that is that. They get two runs on three hits, no errors, and one left. We’re midway in the fourth. It’s the Tigers two and the Red Sox one. Welcome back. And they turn to a new arm as we kick off the bottom of the fourth. Tommy Canley. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Here’s the second baseman. Romy Gonzalez doubled his first time up. Romy Gonzalez, you know, this guy’s great speed is in the back of that pitcher’s mind. If he can get on, it’s going to give him one more thing he’s got to think about. Activity in the bullpen for Detroit. Tyler Holton, the young lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Swing and a miss. And it’s 0 and two. Big time jam right there. I hate it as a hitter, but standing in center field, you can’t help but chuckle a little bit. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Fights that one away. And the count remains 0 and2. [Applause] fights it off. He’ll see another outside and the count is one and two. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. On the ground to third. Throw on to Torqulson. One out in the bottom of the fourth. Now batting center fielder Son Raphaela. Now the batter now Son Raphaela 0 for one so far. Bunch attempt, but that goes foul. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. [Music] fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Trying to hold a one-run lead. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. [Applause] That misses the zone. Two and two. [Applause] and misses inside. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mound, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. [Applause] Foul ball and it remains a full count. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And the tying run is on base. A great back and forth in that at bat. He had to lay off some really close pitches and somehow Boogie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. Low up to bat next. Lays off for a ball. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Next pitch inside and that’s ball two. Chris, with that distraction and the speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. And that’s a strike with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. He’s gone off speed. He needs to elevate here with two strikes out of the zone. [Applause] And it remains two and two. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. [Applause] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Runner on the go. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Two away. [Music] Now batting right fielder Rob Snider. And here comes the Tigers manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Tommy Canley will depart and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Here’s a new pitcher from the pen, Tyler Holton. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So, this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Rob Reed up next for the Red Sox. Ref Snider really thriving with the bat this season here at home. All right, Red Sox. Let’s go. That’s a big run over there at first base. He’s got some speed. Let’s see if they send him. You got this. Two outs. That one inside. Two and 0. Bottom of the zone and a cold strike. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. [Applause] That’s outside. Three balls in a strike. Connor Wong in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Applause] and fouled off. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. grounds one to short. Bayz that ends the frame. So, it’s no runs on no hits, no errors, and a runner left. Onto the top of the fifth we go. It’s the Tigers two and the Red Sox one. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Zack Kelly, left-handed batter at the plate and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So this seems like a calculated move and now the center fielder Parker Meadows and he takes a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Fly ball down the line. Ref. Snider giving chase. High bounce takes it over the fence for an automatic double. Well, this tends to happen more often in this park than others. And that short fence is just so inviting for hitters. You see a lot of balls bounce over for an automatic double when no one can run it down. Runner in scoring position, no outs. The batter now, Javier Bayz. The shorts stop takes a ball. Let’s go now. That’s a ball. Two balls. No strike. Come on, Boston. That one’s in there now. Two balls in a strike. [Applause] That’s down and in. Let’s go. Come on. You can do it. Hit in the air. Center field. Raphaela has a beat on it. He’s there. He’s got it. Runner tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out. Now betting designated hitter Jamai Jones. And now the DH Jamai Jones bowl for two in this one. Here’s a sackfly situation and he’s got to make sure he gets the ball out over the plate and get those arms extended. They’re trying to crowd him with the infield in. This be a big pickup if he can push a run across. And he can’t come up with it. In to score is the runner from third and they take a two-run lead. Still able to fire over. Not going to get him. He’s in there. Comes through with the RBI. Got the top of the ball a little bit, but not much. That was hit pretty hard through the infield. So, I think he’ll be happy with that swing. Definitely generated some good bat speed. One out, runner at second. Now the number two hitter, Glabber Torres. Fast ball in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Jones over at second. One down. Check on the runner and he’s back in safely. Man at second in the air on the infield. Low under it. Carous it. That’s out number two. Up next for the Tigers, right fielder Wel Perez. Wel Perez will hit next. One for two and first offering is fouled off. Rudder at second. Two down. Next offering is in for a strike. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again in the dirt. fouls it off. Still one and two and that one got a piece of him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. So first and second with two outs. Spencer Torqulson up now for the Tigers who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Next offering is fouled back. And one and two. First and second, two down. Strike him out. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. Inning over and it could have been worse. Two men left stranded, but they do push across one. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Tigers three and the Red Sox one. Back here in Boston, we head to the bottom of the fifth. And here’s the catcher, Connor Wong. Wong. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. You know, these Red Sox looking to string together better at bats when they have runners on, but it just hasn’t happened for them yet. They only have one hit with runners in scoring position, so a lot of squandered opportunities. It’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back. That one misses and that’s ball three. 3-1 and he couldn’t come up with it. And that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Now batting Jiren Durant up next for the Red Sox. Now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Now snap throw to first and he’s back safely. He was late there. Strike one. One strike. And a count. One and two. Rudder at first with no outs here. That misses. It’s two and two. They tried to get him to go. Chase the pitch down and away, but he wouldn’t bite. Highf fly ball out to left field. Green settles under it and there’s one down. Now batting shortstop Trevor. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Tyler Holton departs. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now a right-handed arm out of the bullpen. Chris Paddock. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Trevor Story comes up to the plate. So clutch, you could argue that he’s been this team’s MVP this year. in there for strike one. Man at first, one away. Swinging a foul out of play. Tying run at the plate. That one missed. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. [Music] balls and two strikes. Hit in the air out to center field. Meadows has this one sized up. Pulls it down and he makes the catch and there are two down. Oh, such a confidence boost for a reliever to come into the ball game and get the first hitter he faces. Just makes everything slow down a little bit and then from there can really settle in. And now it’s Alex Bregman. He’s been a great free agent side. Pitch is in there. Strike one. Not sure if he was expecting for the pitcher to come right at him, but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire way. Wong leads off first with two down of the inning. And there’s a foul ball on the ground to third and it stays fair. Wong around third. There’s the tag. They get him and that’s the inning. One left for the Red Sox and they still trail it here three to one. Now pitching. We’re back and they make a change to start the six. The new pitcher Garrett Whitlock. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. And now Riley Green drove it off the wall last time. Just missed out on a home run. That’s to third in plenty of time to first. Leadoff man retired in the six. Really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Andy Ivanz. Andy up now for the Tigers. And that’s in there for strike one. One down. Base is empty. And that skips in the dirt. movement in the bullpen. Greg Weisser appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Sllayton getting loose as well. Come on. Pitch misses. Two and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. And that’s him for a strike. And it’s three and two. Got him swinging. Now batting Dylan Dingler up now for the Tigers. Dingler having a lot more success on the road this season. That clips a corner. At bat can be a little bit of a dance. Strike one here, but few more pitches. We’ll see how it turns out. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball one. [Applause] Two down. Nobody on that one in the dirt and a count. Two on and one. That one fouled off. Two outs up the middle. Safe at first and an infield single keeps the inning going. Definitely a tough play right there and he had a little trouble on the transfer. Didn’t seem to be able to get the grip and get rid of it and that made all the difference. Two outs, runner at first. Here’s the center fielder, Parker Meadows. And first off is fouled off. They call this batter a gamer because he always seems to perform better when it matters most. Who doesn’t want a guy like that on your team? misses off the plate and it’s one and one. Back door breaking ball just missed right there. And boy, umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again, hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it. Out of line out towards center and that is that. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up. It’s the Tigers three and the Red Sox one. Back now and on the mound the closer Will Vest and he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Now the left fielder Masataka Yoshida. left fielder Makataka Yoshida. Pitch misses there and it’s one and0. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Singy. That’s a start. Yeah. As soon as that ball got through, I could see down in the dugout guys pumping their fists. They know that they got a chance in this ball game. And next for the Red Sox, Romy Gonzalez. [Applause] And that’s down and away. One ball. [Applause] Strike one. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. [Applause] Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Boom. That’s cheddar, baby. You got it. That’s the third. Lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. No throw. And they can’t get the out. Two consecutive base hits for these guys here now. A huge at bat in this game coming up. Raphael. Son Raphaela getting ready to hit. [Applause] And that one off the outside edge. [Applause] And the one swings through that one for strike one. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. Next pitch misses. Two and one. Tough spot right here. Couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. And that’s off the outside edge. And now three and one. Nathaniel Low in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Yoshida on second. Gonzalez on first with nobody out. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. [Applause] Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. on the ground. Two ball throws to second for one. Back to first and that is a double play. For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there completing it back to first. really good job all the way around. So they’re down to their final out. Nathaniel Low digs in now. Fought off foul with the tying run at the plate there. The home team trying to pull it out. You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball in and he spits on that one. And a count one and two. Really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. One strike away. [Music] [Applause] Tying run at the plate. Stays alive. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. And that is the ball game. Sometimes road trips can be tough. You’re away from your family. But when you can win, silence that opposing crowd, it makes things just a little bit better. Makes the road trip just a little bit shorter. And your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
