Necas and the Avs are in discussions on an extension for the pending UFA, but it's possible Colorado and the player get into a similar impasse as happened with Rantanen. Colorado seems to have a ceiling on what they are willing to pay wingers with a massive extension for Makar looming in a couple of seasons.

Let's assume for a minute that Necas and the Avs can't agree on a contract and Colorado is faced with losing him for nothing next summer or trading him for some return mid-season.

If that's the case, the Kraken should be knocking down Colorado's door to try to make a trade happen on the condition that Necas is willing to sign a long-term extension in Seattle. He's just 26 years old and put up 83 points last season between the Canes and Avs.

A fair return package would likely have multiple pieces. The Avs are trying to compete now, so they would need current NHL players back at a minimum and could use more winger depth. I'd offer any of the Kraken's older veteran wingers with salary retention, including McCann, Schwartz, Tolvanen, etc. I would not want move Kakko since he just signed an extension.

The Avs would also probably want a prospect who is close to NHL-ready. I think any prospect not named Catton or O'Brien should be on the table. I'd hate to lose a guy like Nyman but I think a player of Necas' abilities and age would be worth it.

Would you want the Kraken to trade for Necas if he's available and willing to sign here? What would you be willing to trade?

  1. If he’s willing to sign, I’m all for it.

Anyone on the roster not named Wright or Nyman, I wouldn’t blink at. I agree, Catton and O’Brien I wouldn’t be thrilled about. I would also not trade our unprotected first this year. Tampa’s I’d be open to (as part of a package, I’m sure).

  2. He turns 27 this season. So he is not the age range we would ideally want to aim for, but not far out of it either. We should certainly talk to the Avs about him but not worth trading the farm for, though he would instantly be the best forward we have on the ice.

  3. I would be shocked if he wanted a long term deal with a team that is a long way from being a contender.

  4. Robertson, Necas, and Kyrou we’re all rumored to be available this offseason

They are all names to watch as the moves along and into this next off-season

Every one of them would fit what this team needs, and they are just in the beginning of their primes – which aligns closer with our timeline

The Kraken should absolutely be interested, and between our vets, multiple 1st and 2nd round picks, and prospects; we should have the ammo to get a trade done if one of them agrees to a deal
