GAME: LA Kings vs Anaheim Ducks in Bakersfield, CA | NHL Preseason

For the Kings, they were 48-25 and 9, second place in the Pacific Division last year under then firstear head coach Jim Hiller. Today, a very different lineup from what we saw the other night in Anaheim. But Warren Fogle, Philip Deno, and Trevor Moore will lead the line for the Kings tonight as they did Tuesday in Las Vegas against the Knights. Second line, Liam Greenree is back in the Kings first round pick from a season ago. He finished third overall in the Ontario Hockey League in points last year. He’s with Alex Leferier who plays at the center position tonight rather than wing and newcomer Yoel Arma on the right wing on that second line. Third line has got some size and some speed. Andre Lee, Samuel Helenius, and then the incoming rookie in the AHL, Jared Wright, and a 2024 national champion at Denver. And then the fourth line, Akquil Thomas is with Franchesco Penelli and Taylor Ward. Talk about more speed on the fourth line as well. For the Kings on the Blue Line, Joe Hicks will make his preseason debut. The Ontario Rain captain will be paired with Cody Cece. Second pair, Jacob Moar is with Brandt Clark. They’ve spent time together in the NHL and AHL. And then the third pair, Jacob D’vorak back in with Kyle Burroughs, who will play in his fourth game out of four in the preseason so far. Tonight’s goalenders, Eric Portillo led the team out of the tunnel. He was 1-0 last year, beating Anaheim in his NHL debut and 155 and three in the American League. Phoenix CPPley also here for the Kings tonight. He was 2417-1 last year for the Ontario rain. So, it’s the Kings and the Anaheim Ducks today at Dignity Health Arena in downtown Bakersfield. Welcome to Health Arena in this afternoon’s NHL. from Dignity Health Arena in downtown Bakersfield. It’s another preeason showdown for the Los Angeles Kings as they made the drive north to Kern County to battle the Anaheim Ducks. Hi again everybody with former Kings winger Daryl Evans. I’m Josh Schaefer. Thanks so much for spending your Saturday afternoon with us here in Bakersfield where Daryl the Kings and the Ducks they will meet for the third time in four preseason games. They’ve still got one more after this, but at this point we’re starting to get a good feel for these two teams. Yeah, and considering that they had the game at the rookie faceoff also down in uh Anaheim as well. Uh a lot of the young kids who were in the lineup this afternoon, we’ve seen them on a number of occasions. So yeah, we are getting familiar with them and what it does, it gives you a little bit more to be able to talk about through the course of the game watching these young players, the way their game maybe has evolved over the last week after having a chance to play with NHL guys for the last couple of games. I think I should have corrected myself. Uh former Kings winger and Anaheim Ducks prospect expert Daryl Evans. After you’ve seen him so much as of late in the rookie tournament, all these preseason games, I would assume that we would see fewer prospects the next time these two teams meet. But for the Kings, it’s a decent mix of some NHL talent and some more prospects today. For Anaheim, however, there’s a lot of the young guys and AHL guys are going to get the opportunity here in Bakersfield. And you know, one thing that that could play a factor, I suppose, in some of this is that both teams have a scattering of players in the lineup that have played in this building before in the American League. Does is it the same kind of thing when you play in an AHL building in the NHL preseason where you kind of have that that nostalgia of going back to where you might have come from? Yeah, I think sometimes that’s, you know, a little bit of a cool thing to be able to come back to. Uh it’s also an arena where players are comfortable playing and sometimes when you step out into a building where you’ve never played before, you might be kind of in awe a little bit, but this is going to be a pretty good stage here. We’re starting to see the crowd fill in. But young guys that are on the ice today, I think as the week has gone on, they’ve seen they’ve played against a number of different NHL players and those that have played against the Kings now being the third game, they’ve seen other players. So, uh, you know, they get a chance to play against different guys and see how they match up and see where they go from there. But I expect the pace to be pretty good. One thing that we have seen through the course of the preseason is not a lot of garbage out on the ice. It’s been pretty good hockey up and down north and south type of hockey. Not a lot of after the whistle type of stuff. So everybody’s in the mindset right now it’s business and they’re trying to make put themselves in the best stage that they can. You know sometimes I feel like it’s worth looking back at the most recent game between these two sides which of course was just a few days ago on Wednesday at the Honda Center. Kings won three nothing. But it’s the preseason. The lineups are different. So instead of looking back at the game, let’s look back at some of the players that we’ve seen in this preseason so far. Samuel Helenius and Kyle Burroughs are both in the lineup today. After today, they will have played in all four preseason games for the Kings. But the top forward line tonight, Fogle, Deno, and more, they kind of controlled the pace of play the other night in Vegas when the Kings played another NHL heavy lineup against the Golden Knights on the road and won 3 to one. Yeah, in talking to those guys the last couple of days at at practice, you know, they’re they’re feeling pretty good. Uh, you know, they feel that where they’re at at this stage of training camp maybe a little ahead of where they’ve been in the past. And I know a number of the guys that were skating before training camp even got started. So, they’ve been itching to get into a game. and they thought their timing was pretty good in that game against Vegas. And as you said, Josh, the Vegas team was a pretty competitive team out there. A lot of NHL guys, their top two lines, the guys like the no played against through the course of the night. They were a very competitive lineup. So, uh, you know, this will be a little bit different here today, but those guys again, they’re looking for their touches and just to build a little chemistry out there. You know, playing off of each other, they’d like to create a little bit more offense. Fogle last year had an outstanding year offensively, but both uh Moore and Deno, they’d like to see their goal output increase this year. Well, it’s the Kings and the Anaheim Ducks today here at Dignity Health Arena in downtown Bakersfield. We will take a break. When we come back, it’s the opening faceoff between the Kings and the Ducks on the ESPN Kings Radio Network. Almost ready to go here in Bakersfield. Kings and the Ducks for the third meeting in the preseason. Fourth game overall for both sides. And we’ll take a look at tonight’s starting lineups presented by Vivid Seats. is the official partner of your Los Angeles Kings. Matthew Phillips, Ryan Paling, Beckett Senica, the forwards up top for Anaheim. The defenseman are Olen Zelwagger and Noah Warren, while Peter Morazzic starts a net for the Ducks 1221 and two last year for Morazzic split between the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks. For the LA Kings, it’s Warren Fogle, Philip Deno, and Trevor Moore, the forward line, the starting defensive pairing. Joe Hicks making his preseason debut. the Ontario rain captain the Kings organization the American League and newcomer Cody Cece who split last year in the NHL between San Jose and Dallas. And starting in the net to our left for the Kings, Eric Portillo. He’s won some big games in this building before as a member of the Ontario reign, including some big playoff games in the 23-24 campaign in the Calder Cup playoffs. Last year here it was 155 and3 with the rain in the American League and 1 and0 in one NHL game. It came against these Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center in November. So it’s Eric Portillo for the Kings in the net to our left for Jim Hiller and company and Peter Morazzic for Joel Quenville and the Anaheim Ducks in the net to our right. And we are almost ready to go here in Bakersfield. Yeah, it just had a little ceremonial puck drop there between the respective centerman Philip Deno. He was out to take the draw against Paling and of course the home team, the Kings being that a clean faceoff win by Deno. So that sets the tone for the hockey game. He’s one and0. Pretty good start to the game for Phil Denell as the two sides prepare for faceoff. Kings in the home black jerseys from head to toe. White and silver striping. They’ll be moving from left to right. The Ducks of the Road Whites bright orange buckets and pants with the black and gold striping moving from right to left and the puck drops. It’s another clean faceoff win for Philip Deno and this game is underway but immediately comes to a halt 6 seconds in as the Kings put the puck out of play. See if he can get the natural hat-tick here. Go for three straight. We’ve only played 6 seconds and we’ve got faceoff number two coming in the game and it’ll be right back where we started the game as the puck went over the glass and Paling this time a little bit more aggressive to get in there and he’s been pushed out by the linesman and and Denell wins it again but it’s forced back into the king zone by the Ducks and Matthew Phillips scampers after it. Phillips has Oh, they’re going to draw a penalty just like that. Going to be a hook. Well, this has been one start to the game. We’ve had two faceoffs, three if uh you’re joking around. A puck over the glass and now a penalty and it’s going to go against the Ducks. So, Becket Senica will go to the box and the Kings go to the power play 15 seconds in. Yeah. And with that, the faceoff will come all the way back into Anaheim zone and Philip Deno directing traffic out there. He’s going to put it to the right of the goalender Morazzic. So, he’ll try to draw back. Brandt Clark, he’s out there quarterbacking the power play. He’s back out on the left point right now behind Deno. And the cleanest faceoff wins so far for Philip Deno. He’s got three faceoff wins in the actual game in the first 15 seconds of the first period. So the Kings on the power play here and this unit did get some work in Vegas the other night as the Ducks will chip it back down the ice and Alex Lefarier is back to get it for LA with the help from the goalender Eric Portillo. Yeah, the Kings had a chance to work on some power play uh yesterday at the training center in Elsagando and it was pretty effective at times. They’re moving a puck around quite crisply and of course the penalty killers know exactly what the power play unit is trying to do out there. So they maybe cheated a little bit but that forces the power play guys to have to be on top of their game. Puck out of play again in the Anaheim zone. Still less than a minute off the clock here in the first period. Faceoff will stay in front of Peter Morazzic to his right hand side and Philip Deno out for yet another faceoff. It’s a 50/50 puck and the Ducks will come away with it. Taken by Ian Moore behind the goal and swatted around the boards. Kings hold it in up to the blue line and Deno drops it back more along the wall. Couldn’t hang on to it. It escapes the Anaheim zone out to center ice where Clark and the Kings will fire it back in. Razic himself will collect and slot it all the way back to the LA zone as both teams will change special teams units. Yeah, last year Anaheim struggled on a penalty kill. One thing that they changed this year, a lot more aggressive. They’re going to push and force the opposition to have to make perfect plays. They’re not going to lay back and be passive like they were last year. They’re going to be a lot more aggressive in all three zones. Another clearance by the Ducks. And now Kyle Burroughs back to get it for the Kings. Burroughs has now played in all four preseason games for LA. Samuel Helenius, the big finish forward, has also played in all four. Not on the ice now as Burroughs holds it in right point. Kings on the power play for another 30 seconds. Puck behind the Anaheim net picked up by Tyson Hines along the near wall. Check there. Thomas had it for a moment and lost it. Ducks send it around the wall and it dribbles back into the neutral zone. Ward to get it. Swings it for Greenree up the right wing side. Hands it to Thomas. Hits the brakes along the wall. Tried to muscle it back up the boards. held in by Greenree. Thomas has the puck in his skates. Couldn’t find it. And the Ducks will clear it, but not even all the way back to the red line. So, the Kings turn forward. Power play comes to a close and the Kings will change personnel. Green Tree held it in for a moment. Now, the Ducks take over and look out of their own zone. One for one on the kill in this one. Back into the Anaheim zone. Noah Warren swats it over over the logo at center. Left wing Phillips hands it off and a shot from Paling is smothered by the goalender Portillo at the near post with 1725 to play in the period and officially that becomes the first shot on goal in the game. Kings had no shots on goal where they spent two minutes on the power play but Anaheim they come right back here. Paling throws the puck to the net. He was outside the faceoff dot. Good play there by Andre Lee. He was on the back check coming back. force him to the outside and that was a cue for the goalender Portillo to get up against that short side post and make the save. Face off to Portillo’s right. Helenius tossed out of the faceoff circle and then comes Andre Lee. Scrum for it. The Ducks try to take it away at the blue line. Zelwagger holds it in, shoots and a save by Portillo again. Not a ton on the shot from Olen Zelwagger and not a ton of traffic in front either. certainly stopped from the angle he let the shot go from and Portillo kind of just leaned and found it. Yeah. What you want to do there is the defender like Zelwiger did right there. You want to make sure that it get past the oncoming for checker. You don’t want to have it bounce off his pads into the neutral zone. You want to allow your forwards to stay on the attack in the offensive end. Puck behind the Kings net back underway. Sent around the wall to the right wing side. Andre Lee goes barreling into Noah Warren. And now the puck up the wall to the right point. Warren will hold it in for a moment but fanned on his chance. Kings take it away. Twoon one developing. Left wing Lee shoots. Saved by Morazzic. And the rebound picked up by Jared Wright. Feeds it to the blue line. Swung right side. Cece shoots and scores. Cody Cece with a rocket from the top of the right circle. 310 into the game and the Kings lead one- nothing. Well, it all starts off the rush. Andre Lee as he goes up the ice. He gets the chance. Kings recover the puck. They get it back up high. and Kings with a lot of traffic down around the net and Cece was able to move in right to the top of the faceoff circle. He just unloads. Morasic, the goalender, came out to challenge, but he couldn’t get in front of it. He ends up going by him on a stick side. Cece’s goal puts the Kings up one to nothing. Cody Cece, four goals and 24 points last season between San Jose and Dallas. went to the stars at the trade deadline, but Kings have added him for more size, some more defens or stronger defensive capabilities on the blue line for a team that was already so good defensively last year. And also that postseason experience, he’s played over 70 games in the Stanley Cup playoffs in the last four seasons alone. And here in the preseason, he gives the Kings a one- nothing lead. Yeah, that was a good shot right there. I mean, that was posted inside the pipe. Had a lot on it. But the key was he had his head up the entire time. He saw traffic from both teams coming across the top of the crease there. Nobody was coming out at him. They give him a little bit of a area to be able to shoot that puck and he did a great job at getting it through to the net. So 1632 to play here in the first period and the Kings have a one- nothing lead. Neutralized faceoff outside the LA zone. It’s taken by Anaheim and then poked up the near wall by Pavle Mityov. Kings taken away immediately and up the right wing side goes Penelli. Shoved away from the puck as he rolled it in. Mikov pushed him away then chases down the puck behind the goal. Far side. D’vorak held it in. Now the big defenseman D’vorak after it in the corner. Kings pick it up. Penelli saucer pass behind the net for Ward. He couldn’t handle it. Got turned around and now the Ducks back into the neutral zone. Right wing side past to Shave. Had a chance at it. Knocked away. And now with the Kings changing, Ducks pick it up and we’ll start back in left wing. But they are offside with 1556 to play in the period. A goal by Cece. His partner Mo Barara gets involved right involved in that one as well. Again, it was the puck retrieval by the Kings on the initial chance coming off Andre Lee off the rush. Kings quickly got the puck not allowing Anaheim to be able to set up defensively and they went right back on the attack when they got the puck up high to Cece. The Ducks take a neutralized face off. Fire it deep to the Kings. Zone him over Ari out to get it. Good breakout by the Kings. Not the cleanest, but a nifty little move along the right wing by Fogle. And now the Ducks step in right wing. Cedarov takes it to the front, shoots, and a save by Portillo at the far post and he pounces on the rebound. Yeah, good job there by Portillo. Again, not a lot of activity so far, but making sure you got your angles and what allows a goalender to move around so comfortably like that is knowing that guys are covered on the backside. The Kings as an organization, their commitment to defensive play has been outstanding the last decade or so. And the new guys that come in, they know one thing that’s expected of them, so they pay a lot of attention to it. Yeah, Portillo’s been sharp in this building before. Good road record for him against the Bakersfield Condors and including some postseason wins as well, which we mentioned earlier. In fact, he had a diving paddle save in this building that I was here for with Jared Chaffron. Uh, and that was a highlight that was used uh in Ontario Rain, you know, highlight reels for like the last two and a half seasons. Ducks right to left out of their own zone. 1515 to play in the period. Check thrown along the left wing wall by Clark, but he ended up kind of taking the worst of it from Noah Warren. And now the Kings back through the neutral zone. Centering pass was right into the chest of Philip Deno. Ducks will take over and then circle back into their own zone. Now Zelwagger left wing. Olan Zelwagger speeds forward up the left wing. Zelwagger shoots from a sharp angle. Saved by Portillo and then gathered along the left wing side by Anaheim. sent down into the corner. Movari had a swing and a miss trying to get the puck around the wall. Now a scrum for it. Ducks keep it moving beneath the goal line now and then dropped back. A shot from Phillips at the near circle. Stopped by Portillo and he’ll hang on with 1438 remaining. Now five shots on goal now for Anaheim to just two for the Kings. Kings leading this one one to nothing and a goal by Cece. But Anaheim a lot of times so far early on looks like they’re trying to put the goalender up against the short side post maybe setting up plays that later come across where they throw the puck laterally in front of him. But right now they’re making sure the goalender’s committed to coming all the way across for a shot. Left circle faceoff win by the Ducks. Phillips guides it up top and a shot from there goes wide right. Rebound up the near boards taken by Arma. The puck out of danger for a moment but Lefari couldn’t get it out. Throws a jab, gets the puck back and forces it up the near wall. The Kings will send it into the neutral zone, but going to get a penalty. Yeah, another penalty. It looks like it’s coming against Anaheim again. It’s going to be a holding the stick call this time and this time going to the penalty box for the Ducks is going to be Phillips. So, Phillips to the box. His team trailing one- nothing. Kings on their second power play. 0 for one. No shots on goal in their first man advantage. Phillips is crafty but couldn’t get away with one there. And the Kings will go back to the power play. Something to watch out for here, Daryl, is if the Kings don’t score on this power play. Phillips will be a guy that they’ll try to spring out of the penalty box, too. Terrific offensive player and very quick. Led the Colorado Eagles in scoring last year in the American League. Kings on the power play for the second time. Win the draw and they’ll try to set it up. Ducks a little bit more aggressive. And now center point. Clark turns and hands it off to Lefarier to his left. Back to Clark center point to Lefarier left wing shoots. Kick save Morazzic and the Ducks clear it to the blue line. Clark holds it in right wing. Moore beneath the right circle cross ice pass. Leferier couldn’t shoot cleanly and then slapped it toward the goal. Had his shot blocked and then Clark inadvertently put the puck into the Ducks bench. Yeah, we saw that time the second opportunity for Lefar when he got the puck at the faceoff circle. Just a little bit of a juggling act with the puck. Wasn’t able to handle it clean and Anaheim quickly collapsed on him. They came out. They had two guys coming towards him. He wasn’t able to push the puck down beyond them. That forced the puck up high. Brandon Clark, he was coming across to aid his partner up high there and the puck ends up going into Anaheim’s bench. Not a bad play there even if he did it intentionally just to make sure that Anaheim wasn’t able to get the puck and come back with numbers. He’s keep it in in front. A shot saved by Morazzic at the far post. Good little drop back pass through the far circle from Fogle to Deno, but he couldn’t solve the goalender. And a minute 25 to go in the Kings power play. Faceoff stays to the Anaheim men. Yeah, like right off that draw, Fogle does a nice job. They got the puck again up high, down low. Quick little pass. Trevor Moore was backing off on the opposite side to use kind of as a decoy maybe to get the goalender to pull a little bit, but Morasic stood tall on the short side tonight in a bit by Deno. Left circle faceoff now. Deno wins it against Mach. And then up top, long shot right into the chest of Morazzic through traffic and immediately gets a whistle and no rebound with 1341 left. I’m sure Josh after that first power play where the Kings had no shots on goal, the mindset was to come into this one and get some shots. And so far here in the opening 41 seconds, three shots on goal. They’re going to keep that top unit out as well, except it looks like they’re going to swap Arma. Arma came out for that last shift and then immediately went back to the bench. So now the Kings get out the same unit that they had to start. And here the puck deflects off of Fogle and in front for Morazzic to cover with a minute 14 to go on the Kings power play. And this is where you want to continue to excel in the faceoff circle. That gives you time and possession right off the bat. Look at Warren Fogle out there. A little bit of power play time. Last year 24 goals in the season. Only one of his 24 came on a man advantage. Clark left circle. A shot from Leferier. Sliding save by Morazzic in the glove. With a minute 06 to go on the Kings power play. Heads up play there by Brandt Clark. He drifted towards his right. He drew the Ducks penalty killers over a little bit and then threw a nice pass right in the wheelhouse of Lefarere. He one time the puck. Morassic coming left to right. Did a good job squareing up to deny the bid all these short really moments here on short stretches between these whistles. And then the Kings have kept this top unit out the whole time so far. shot that got blocked. Clark let it go from the blue line and now it’s cleared. And again, the Kings will keep the top unit out after Anaheim clears it down the ice. Yeah, we’ve had a lot of faceoffs here in the opening seven minutes and Deno’s probably had eight or nine himself. Here comes Deno. Flicks it left wing and comes Fogle. Back to Deno. Tried to tuck it in front. Got blocked around to the right corner. Moore back for Deno. Takes it up the wall. Got blocked there and then taken by Anaheim behind the net. Warren loses the puck to Leferier up top. Fogle back to Lefari. Left circle and deep for more. for it. Jumped off his backhand. He’ll slap it to Deno. Base of the right circle up top for Clark. 25 seconds to go on the King’s second power play. Deno winds, fires, save off the pad of Morazzic. Right back up top for Clark. He shoots. Save. Morazzic in the glove through traffic with 16 seconds to go on the Kings power play. Well, unofficially six shots on goal on this man. Advantage for the Kings. doing a better job than they did on that first one, getting shots through, but more of a mind uh shot uh shooting mentality and a retrieval mentality. Doing a good job. The guys down low wherever the puck goes off of the goalender, they’re quick to recover it, stretch the penalty killers back out, and this time they haven’t allowed Anaheim to be able to use that aggressive penalty kill in their favor. Kings have spent a lot of time in the offensive end. I think that’s, you know, at least in the context of this preseason game today, the penalty kill is certainly where Anaheim will probably feel short-handed the most, literally and figuratively, because they’ve got a lot of AHL guys and prospects in the lineup. And although the Kings don’t have their usual power play weapons like Biffield, Kusmano, Kopitar, Kempe, they’ve still got a full set of NHL players who can score at the NHL level against a lot of younger guys. So, I mean, that’s really when we felt the momentum shift in this game was with these power plays so far, especially this one along the wall. Kings pull it up top. Held in there. Phillips ready to spring out of the box. Hicks shoots it a save. Rebound. Thomas put it over the goal and wide. It stays in play. Cece hands it off to Greenree. He curls up top. He turns and shoots. It’s blocked away. And then Cece tried to backhand it in front. It was blocked and then gloved down by Mikov who loses it to Cody Cece. Turns and slapped it forward. Kings trying to come away with it. Battle for it along the near wall between the penalty box and the Ducks blue line. Now it rolls back to the LA zone and Joe Hicks has it for the Kings. Hicks who has captained the Ontario reign last season and then coming into this season as well. He has played NHL games all with Detroit between 2017 and 2020 and yet to break into an NHL lineup for the Kings, but has been a mainstay in Ontario’s lineup when healthy. He’s out with Cody Cece in this game. Those two go off for a change and the Ducks are offside with 1133 to play in the first period. We’ll take a break. Kings lead one- nothing on Cody Cece’s first goal of the preseason. 11:33 left. You’re watching Kings hockey on Samsung Silver and listening on the ESPN LA Kings Radio Network. A one- nothing lead for the Kings off of Cody Cece’s goal. 11:33 to play here in the first period at Dignity Health Arena in downtown Bakersfield, the home of the American Hockey League’s Bakersfield Condors. Those of you watching on the video broadcast stream, you see that Condors logo at center ice, AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. And right here in California, back underway and the Kings retreat to their own zone to collect the puck and Kyle Burroughs has it. Ends it off to Helenius who had it kickoff as skates. Ducks take over. Left wing Bailey to the middle. A one-timer that got blocked away into the right wing side. It’s picked up by Anaheim there. Miatavic circles up rather past the job with it. Turns and got checked as he let it go in deep for Justin Bailey. Tried to center it off of Helenius’s skate. Ducks take over. Bank pass up the left wing wall for Hines. Then wrapped around the wall under the right wing boards. The Kings deflected all the way down the ice. Speeding after it. Jared Wright up the right or up the left wing boards rather. Had it taken off his stick as he tried to get the puck to his backhand. Now battles for it into the trapezoid behind Morazzic in the Anaheim net. And now Helenius steps to the near corner. Drops it back as he got checked by Bailey along the near wall and then guided forward by Anaheim. Turned over. And now Thomas cross ice pass collected by Moari. Drops it back and Clark shoots. Had it blocked away right to Bailey. He’ll start right to left out of the duck zone and it just skittered along the ice and as the Kings were changing they had the door to the bench open and the puck just jumped right through the door. Hey, the puck’s just like a player wanted a line change. Been a long shift for him. Been out there since the last whistle. So 10:25 left in the period and the faceoff will be right in front of the Kings bench. Tim Washi to take the draw for Anaheim against Francesco Penelli for the Kings. Penelli entering his third year the American Hockey League is Ward and Cedarov battling a little bit before this faceoff. Thomas steps in, could win the draw. Washi pulled it back to the Ducks defense and now leftwing Zelwagger shoots it deep. Portillo out of his net to get it. He’ll fire it along the boards himself and the puck deflects to the middle. Kings couldn’t get it out on the first chance and now left wing. Here they come. Penelli guides it past one man. Shrugs out of a check. Tried to center it. It banks up top. Long shot from there is blocked by Zelwigger. He’ll speed forward and hand it off to Cedarov left wing who will lift the puck to the King zone. Overare first to it. checked into the wall by Nathan Goce. The Ducks forward banks it up the board. Zelwagger holds it in. Whoa, a Ducks player lost his stick way up in the air and it’s immediately whistled dead with 948 left to play and I think the Kings are going to get called for a penalty. Yeah, it’s going to be an interference call against Jacob Oar and he’s questioned call. He doesn’t think he done anything wrong but he’s going to the box two minutes for interference. So, we will take a break. Ducks will go to the power play for the first time. 948 left. Kings lead one nothing here in Bakersfield on Samsung Silver, the ESPN LA, Kings Radio Network. Jacob Oar off to the penalty box for LA. He’ll sit two minutes for interference and the Ducks will go to the power play for the first time in this game. Ducks haven’t had a lot of offensive zone time where they’ve had possession of the puck. They’ve had some shots, some of them off the rush. Five shots unofficially so far to this point. Not anything would you consider a great a opportunity. Portill’s tracked the puck well and the Kings have done a good job in keeping the puck to the outside. But now with an extra man on the ice we’ll get a look at the power play. Of course we’ll see Zel Wigger back in the blue line. He’ll quarterback for Anaheim. Ducks win that faceoff back to the blue line for Zelwagger. Threats a cross ice pass along the blue line. Ducks hold it in there and then send it back to the left wing. Jumped over an Anaheim stick but Senica will hold it in along the wall. tries to send it up top. Will he finds Zelwegger steps to the middle swung back around to the left wing and now Senakica fans on a pass to Zelwagger, but it finds its intended target. Back to Senica and his centering pass is intercepted. Good job there by Leferier coming over and collapsing being able to pick up on that puck. We’ve seen Senakica quite a bit over the last week or so with the rookie face off and then the exit of previous preseason games. And he’s a guy that loves to play on his off wing, especially on the man advantage. He shoots the puck well, but Kings took away his time and space so far in this one. Yeah, they were all over him along the near board. Stuck step back in and now in deep for Phillips, who had it taken away, swatted around the boards, but it skipped off the glass and out with a minute 10 to go on the penalty to Moari. Yeah, smart play there by Brent Clark. He really knew he had nothing that he could do with the puck, so he put it high around the glass. He knew the Kings had a winger along the boards there. So, all he’s trying to do is create a battle further away from the net out closer towards the blue line and ends up skipping on a play. So, a faceoff will come back deep in the Kings zone to the right of Portillo. And these preseason games for the Kings have allowed Brandt Clark to play uh and take more of a defensive role in these games as well. And the other night in Anaheim, after a couple of big shot blocks by Clark, Jim Hiller said that his defensive game has improved very, very quickly and it’s been really good to see. Yeah, a lot of attention to the defensive part of his game. You go back to when Drew Dowy started, he takes so much pride in playing defense. When you play good defense, the offense will take care of itself. Grant Clark in that game the other night, Anaheim, you talked about Josh, six block shots in the game. He was terrific for the Kings defensively the other night here on the power play. Kings will intercept and clear it all the way down the ice. Their penalty killers will change as there’s now only 30 seconds to go on the Anaheim power play. Left wing pailing nearly stripped to the puck by Jared Wright. Now the Duck center right wing fired around the wall by Sam Kangelo. Sends it up the boards. Mikov pressured there. Lost it. Fogle couldn’t backhand it out. Luno feeds it right wing. The Ducks with it in front. A shot. Glove save. Portillo. Loose puck. They score. Mitakov the defenseman joined the attack and he found the loose puck after the rebound chance was put back to the middle and he lifts it into the back of the net to tie this thing up 1-1. Yeah, in the initial bit there from the slot, the goalender Portillo did a really good job getting himself out to the edge of the blue paint. He got his eyes on the shot, made the glove save, it bounced out of his glove off a player to his left and then came right back in. Credit Mitukov, he was up high. He pounced on that loose puck and he jams it into the net. So with a power with a power play goal, Anaheim ties the game at one. Well, that’s the first goal that the Ducks have scored in the preseason against the Kings since within the first two minutes of the Empire Classic last Sunday in Ontario. They’ve played five full periods of hockey since then and then some change after that, almost six. And now the puck back into the King zone, picked up by Wright. He’ll lift it off the glass over the blue line and out to center where it’s knocked down by Tyson Hines. right got turned around and fell over. Hines will take the puck up the left wing and roll it deep to the King zone. D’vorak first to it. Pressed into the left wing corner boards. Hines comes in to hold it in and now bouncing around to the left circle. Hines long shot blocked by Burroughs and then picked up by Helenius. He’ll start left to right back into the neutral zone. Knocked down. He’ll send it deep to the duck zone and go off for a change. Minty Yukov gets the power play goal for Anaheim. Assisted by Ryan Paling and Sam Kangelo. That ties the game up 1-1. So back to five on five play here. And Anaheim with a little bit of jump shift after a goal. And shift after goals are scored are so important. Whether you score them or you’re scored against, you want to make sure that you get that momentum back in your favor. Walk back in the neutral zone. King sent it right wing. And now Ward steps to the middle. Hands it off for Thomas. He shoots and a save by Morazzic at the near post and gets a whistle with 639 to play. I think right there I think Aquille Thomas maybe handcuffed himself a little bit. He was coming down the right side but his first intent was to get a pass over to the left side. He was looking for Ward coming down that side. But when Ward wasn’t open, he forced drifted a little bit more to the towards the outside. And when he shot the puck, he didn’t have a lot on it. Worst case scenario though, he does put it on goal. Barasic makes a save and the Kings get an offensive zone faceoff with Lefari out to take the draw against Goj. So here is Lefarer. Hadn’t taken any faceoffs prior to last season. Then took a handful throughout the year and gets a chance to center a line today. The Ducks win this face off in their own zone and now right wing. Mhach lifts it up the wall back through the neutral zone. Kings chase it down in their own end and then Lefer tried to take it up the right wing. Got blocked and now picked up by Zelwicker. He steps in, shoots. Kick save by Portillo. Loose puck to the right wing wall and Warren’s shot to try to hold it in got deflected by Greenree. Back to the duck zone and now Warren bumped by Leferier evades the Kings forward. Backhands it up to the Kings line as Warren got hit by Arma behind the play and now Portillo out of his net to get the puck behind the Kings goal. Yeah, we see Lefari playing in the middle position today and you go back to last year, the Kings coaching staff felt that with his intelligence, his hockey hockey IQ that he could definitely play center. Very responsible player. The only thing he’s going to have to bear down on obviously and work on in the next little while is going to be the faceoffs. That’s a difficult task for him, but the rest of his game, he’s fully fit to be able to play that spot. Kings back in the duck zone. Thomas left wing chipped up the wall, knocked down by Anaheim. Thomas whacked at it and then it deflects back into the neutral zone. Kale Thomas gets it back, slots it in left wing, but couldn’t get it past the defenseman Ian Moore who sends a seam pass up the far wall. Held on to by the Ducks there. Try to take it up toward the blue line. Player got knocked over by Taylor Ward. Ducks hold it in. Luno shoots wide. Rebound left wing and darting around the goal to the right wing side. Ducks still with it to the blue line. Luno shoots. Blocked in front again by the Kings with 510 left and LA sends it back to the neutral zone and will change all five skaters. And that was Senica for Anaheim that we saw on both sides of the ice. He had it on the left wing boards and eventually he picked up the puck, took it all the way around over to the right wing side looking for somebody to be able to get open. Kings did a great job at sealing the middle of the ice. Deno for the Kings drops it back to Clark and now he and Moari will start up the ice. Overrari feeds Fogle. Nice pass left wing in comes Moore. He shoots. Save. Morazzic with the paddle at the far post as the Kings with a brilliant little setup found more streaking in up the left wing. Kings take it away again and now slotted up the wall by Fogle. He’ll evade Luno. Chases the puck down, but the Ducks get there first through Tyson Hines and then Luno up the wall. Fogle and Hines were all over each other behind the play and then Jon with each other as Fogle went back to the Kings bench. That last shot by the Kings. Trevor Moore building speed underneath the play. When he got the feed from Fogle, he was in full stride. Looked like he tried to open up Morazzic and go five hole and the veteran goalender turned it away at the last second. Physicality starting to increase a little bit here in the final minutes of the first period. Left wing Zelwagger shoots a rising shot that Portillo turns away at the near post. Zelwagger likes to join the rush. And now a penalty upcoming against Anaheim. Kings lifted around the wall and then played by the Kings again near side until finally Warren touches up. Ducks going to be short-handed for the third time in this period. We will take a break. Kings going to the power play, but the Ducks have tied it on a goal from Pavle Minikov. We’re back after this in a moment on the ESPNLA Kings Radio Network. We’re back at Crypto.com Arena for the upcoming season. Enjoy favorites like Star Wars night and Dodgers night and check out new additions like Hello Kitty night. Review the full promo calendar today at lkings.com/tick. 1-1 game. 348 to play in the opening period here in Bakersfield. And the Kings go to the power play. The Ducks third penalty of the first period. Collect off the draw. Send the puck left wing. Moore drops it back. Deno steps along the goal line in front. Drops it back. A shot saved by Morazzic. He didn’t know if he had the puck. Looked behind him, but he had it the whole time. A great feed there by Deno who off the face off. He ended up picking the puck up on the far side of the ice. took the puck down below the goal line when he got it. Came back out, dropped his left shoulder, made contact, and then on a nice delay coming in and was off wing was Lefar on the opposite side. He tried to sweep it underneath the goalender. Morasic with a big save. So left circle face off to no clean win back to the blue line. Clark settles it down. Steps to the middle. He turns and looks to Lefer. He steps in, shoots, tip, save, rebound. Moore whacking away at it. He had two maybe three chances. Loose puck in front. The Kings still trying to find it and now they will. The Ducks and Morazzic kept it out near Walmore. Curls it up the wall. Clark wasn’t there to hold it in. Now the initial shot up high was tipped. Morazzic with a real acrobatic type of save. He was off balance. Made a left pad save. Trevor Moore was right there. Looked like he missed on the first swipe. Sent the rebound in. But by that time, Morazzic was able to recover and deny the third shot on this power play. Left wing Fogle steps in. Cross ice pass. Moore shoots it. the save. Loose puck to the near circle again. Fogle looking for it. More there as well. It’s chopped up the wall. Scooped up by the Ducks. Room to skate for Phillips. Ducks in the rush. Short-handed right wing. Phillips drops it back. Back in front. A shot saved by Portillo. He came way out to deny Ryan Paling who was all alone in front of the goal for a short-handed chance. And now the Ducks will waste some time and send it down the ice again as both teams change personnel. Yeah, it hadn’t have been for that aggressive play there by Portillo. Paling may have been able to pull the puck around him, but he lunged that big 6’6 frame at him and rushed Paling to make a play. He wasn’t able to do so and finish off. Burrows for the Kings. 25 seconds to go on the penalty to Tim Washi. Third penalty of the period for Anaheim. Kings have yet to find the back of the net on the power play. Left wing side. Luno ties up a man there. Final 10 seconds of the LA power play. Puck rolls free. Arma looking for it. He’s pressured by Mitikov. Kings hold it in. Up top. Burrow skates to the middle. Cross ice pass. Green Tree wobbled on him. So he settles it down. Here comes Washi out of the box. Cross ice pass. They score. Greenree had the first look and couldn’t shoot. And then Taylor Ward rips it home from the left circle right as the power play expired. The Kings make it two to one. Yeah, it won’t be a power play goal, but the penalty kill or probably the player coming out penalty box never got a chance to recover and get in the play. A great feed there as patiently Ward does a really nice job trusting his teammate that he’s going to be able to get the pass and Greenree makes a beautiful pass right to the base of the opposite faceoff circle. Morasset came across, took away the low part of the net, but with a little hesitation, Ward elevates the puck. He puts it upstairs where the peanut butter goes and the Kings have the lead back. It’s two to one. Greenree. At first it looked like he would have been the prime candidate to let it rip. It just wobbled on him and he thread it back to Ward. Green’s now got three assists in the preeason and the Kings have the lead back once again. It’s two to one over the Ducks with a minute 20 to play here in the period. Unofficially now. Kings 19 shots on goal. 10 of the 19 have come with the man advantage. 19 to 10 the shots here with a minute left in the first period. Kind of telling though too, Darl, because they didn’t have any shots on the first power play. It’s only been on the last two. Ducks step in in a shot that’s ripped over the crossbar and back into the neutral zone. Ducks step back into their own end before swinging it the other direction. So the Kings goal right after the power play. Taylor Ward assisted by Liam Greenree and Kyle Burroughs. Yeah, Burroughs got a couple of assists in the preseason as well. Yeah, he’s been good. He’s played in all four games. And Greenree with three assists here. The first two were secondary assists. This one was a perfect pass through traffic to set up Taylor Ward at the far circle. Final minute of this first period. Ducks step in right wing side. Tried to center it. Nobody there. It’s intercepted by the Kings. And now turning back the other way is the goal scorer. Ward feeds Greenree and then back for Clark with 23 seconds left. Clark fires it counterclockwise around the wall in the duck zone. Kings one by one get new players off the ice and then on the ice. 15 seconds left and the Ducks right to left through the neutral zone. They’ll tip it deep to the Kings and Portillo out to get it. Big collision behind the goal and then a shot that got intercepted by the Kings. Cleared down the ice. Maybe one more chance. In comes Lefarer trying to deak out the goalender. Morazzic came way out and poked the puck away. That was a good decision there by Morazzic because he knew he was up against the clock and so did Lefarier. The fairer tried to get a hold of the puck, but he just ran out of real estate there as the goalender, I think, just came upon him a lot quicker than he thought. I wonder how much time was actually left. Was there enough time? Yeah, there was enough time to pull it around. Y the rebound was right there for Jared Wright, but he certainly did not have enough time. Well, 2-1 LA through 20 minutes here at Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield. We will take a break back after this in just a bit. Samsung Silver and the ESPN LA Kings Radio Network. uh the newest member of our Kings radio crew here in the first Oh, pizza, pizza, pizza. Pizza. I love them. You should see the big fluffy ones. You should see the difference. I think like there’s like it’s flat, crispy, not even close. Family time is the most important thing, you know, and in the season we have schedule. We have a season going on. So, we can’t always do what we want to do. In the summer, we have a, you know, time off and also not have a real schedule all the time. You know, you can enjoy my family. Let’s go fast. Hey, man. So, you can you can run around. Let’s go. For me, it’s just exciting uh to see everybody, our family, our friends, and do a lot of stuff. We’re very busy, but I enjoy because there’s a limited time, you know, and after it’s like 8 months away from everybody. So, I’m I was first in Malma and then the second year I went to HB71 where I met her in school. So, we know each other for like 11 years. Family, you know, it’s so nice. Uh very yeah very appreciate very thankful for for it and I think it’s a it’s a lot of lot different you know no spontaneous anymore but it’s a tough balance especially in the start when you don’t know what’s coming look at this amazing man we’re here for me it’s a better life it’s more crazy but more chill in a way you know like you have your routines you wake up earlier but you go to bed earlier it’s weird you have more energy somehow but you’re running around all the time you know but I think she gives me so much energy Amazing. So much joy, so much happiness that you have more energy even though you should have less. The last three years when I came to LA, it was much easier to get into the training camp with everything, with conditioning, everything because I’m already have kind of a camp here. You know, you can always get better at everything, but just continue what I finished last year. Just be a more difference maker again. You know, I’ve been been a big difference maker in my career in my opinion and was a attack mode always guy. So I have to get back to that even more. They were already in season mode. So the battle drills, five on five, battle corners, all this kind of stuff helped me a lot. You can always work on stuff, you know. For me, defensively, I can work on a lot. So, this helps me to um recognize stuff. Last week, I had a camp here. I was sitting here on the bench and I was and then they brought it up and I was like, “Oh my god, it’s like it’s actually pretty cool, you know. It’s a big big step. Very proud of making a big event like this. It’s a game, you know, and we have lots of fans coming.” Um, so yeah, it’s a lot of support, you know, for a great cause. So I’m very excited and very appreciate it for all of them involved. This was the first time in Switzerland ever that something like this charity event happened. It was like over a year we was planning this. It was a big process. Kevin asked me a few weeks ago if I would help come to the game and putting an event together like this in August. I mean, you almost packed the whole arena with 10,000 people. So, it’s a you can tell more and more Swiss people watch hockey. for a trash talk. Already in the warm up we decided together we would do with no helmets, you know. So that was already special moment. All the kids, they were like, “Oh my god, they’re coming out with no helmets, no helmets.” He gave so much joy and energy to the whole rink, you know, and to us players as well. And it was so much fun. So many people came, so many fans, over 10,000 people. And when we walked in, I was like, “Oh yeah, we’re in Switzerland.” It’s an honor for me to be here. We played with great players in a great cause as well. Uh so I was so pleased that I could I could come and feature again. He’s such a legend. He doesn’t have to do this. Like he’s playing hockey in England. I knew that and I’m like no way he’s coming. I I exchanged numbers. I text him and like a minute after he’s like I’m in. I’m like oh my god. It’s like it’s crazy. You know, he’s like I said, he’s such a big legend, one of the best goalenders ever to play in soccer. You know, I’m so pleased for him because it takes a huge amount of courage to organize an event like this. It’s lot of organization, lot of admin, you know, lot of uncertainty whether the players will make it, will not make it. And that’s a huge effort from everybody. And and congratulations to him and his team because it’s it’s amazing how they managed to do all that together. here and you could see the people were happy, the players were happy. We know when you want everything to happen well then it takes an effort ready was in front of me and he’s a total Swiss legend and I was like oh my god like it’s going to be a big difference with the screaming volume you know Number 22. It was not a big difference, you know. And then I was like reality check. Oh my god. Like I got goosebumps. That was like a really proud moment. Hey, they’re really good role models and example and then I’m really proud of uh especially of Kevin and all the guys that come here taking a long way to have this game. Cha cha. He brings the hokei family closer. He shows everybody that’s important to as a as a professional player to do something good that they get a lot from the sport and they want to give something back. Nice pass. That’s it. Boom. Boom. Huh. I think for me the amazing part was more the chemistry on the ice where obviously, you know, the guys are not playing that often together, but uh they really, you know, show the skills and and the hockey IQ on the ice and and it was a pleasure to watch. And of course, uh it made it easier for me as well because they helped a lot. Hey, you guys team power. very very happy with the outcome. I got great feedback from a lot of people, you know, and once again very appreciate um you know my family and my friends spent so much time to help me to do this event. Foreign speech. Foreign speech. Foreign speech. Ready? Okay. Go. Yeah, this is Aliosha, by the way. He’s the boss and the captain in this lake. I learned how to swim. So, my great aunts always brought me to this lake, like over the weekends mostly, cuz we lived about what 15 to 20 minutes away here. I have been pretty durable over the course of my career. And maybe it’s something in the water that uh you know, keeps me going. For me, in my mind, when when we come here, the time slows down and we just like get to relax, enjoy, and have quality family time. So, this is the island in the middle of the lake. Obviously, there’s a church on here. So, you know, for me, it was actually pretty special cuz uh me and Enas came here just before the 2012 season, rang the bell, made a wish, and the wish came true. So, it was uh you know, it’s pretty pretty special. Very scenic, obviously. Uhhuh. Hola. There you go. We had their baptism here. We should all do it together now. Ready? Okay. Go. You can’t say it. Yeah. But we made a wish though. Yes. Let’s hope it come. A wish comes true, right? Yeah. I mean, I’m pretty sure everybody knows what my wish was. So, we’ll see if it can happen again or not. There’s people that get married in town. The tradition is the groom has to carry the bride right from the bottom to the top of the stairs. And there’s actually 99 steps. Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield. Kings lead the Ducks two to one. The goalenders switch sides. Portillo to our right and Morazzic to our left as the Kings collect off the draw to begin period number two and send the puck to the Kings or to the duck zone off to our left. Josh Schaefer, Daryl Evans with you today. Thanks so much for spending your Saturday afternoon with us. Kings the offensive zone. A centering feed for Fogle. He whiffed on it and it goes all the way back down the ice. The Kings try to escape their own zone. Send it down the ice. Couldn’t find more. caramemed around the wall and now the Ducks have it with Phillips. They’ll start left to right out of their own zone. Stretch pass for Kangelo. Knock down. Kings take it away. More darts up the right or the left wing looking for Daylight. Leaves it back for Deno. He’ll skate into the corner. Turns back up the wall. Flicks it to the blue line. Movari held it in for a second but couldn’t maintain possession. It’s stripped away by Greenree. Good recovery by the Kings. 2024 first round selection. And now LA will take over in their own zone. Stretch pass up the near wall. Green tree took a bump but guides it in deep. Morazzic out to get it. Slots it back to the left wing. Kings let it go to the blue line. Long shot from Oarrari deflected away. And now the Ducks after it far wall. Kings take it away but can’t hold it in the offensive zone. They’ll take it back to the neutral zone before flipping it deep off the stick of Yoel Armia. Kings change personnel. Sent up the far wall back into the neutral zone. Kings will intercept again. Lefari tried to turn it back toward the center ice logo. Knocked down by the Ducks and they’ll take it away in their own end. Well, Kings have done a good job here early in the second period in the neutral zone as Anaheim has broke the puck out a couple of times. Kings on a couple of occasions have stopped them from the backside. Great backside pressure. And the reason that the backside pressure is so aggressive, the defense is standing up and they’re forcing Anaheim to make a play at the center red line. They haven’t been able to do that. Kings have retrieved the puck and gone back on the attack. So thus spending most of the time here in the minute 100 pardon me the opening 100 seconds of this period in the offensive end. Ducks called for an icing. So faceoff will stay in the Anaheim zone. And now big Sammy Helenius for the draw. Lefty forward. Couldn’t win it on the first chance. They were whacking for it. And then it ends up behind the Ducks net to the far wall and Anaheim guides it out to center from the red line. chipped in to the King’s own left wing and then tracked down by Jacob D’vorak who slots it around the wall. Room for Helenius to step in and that room diminished very quickly. Kings hold it in for a moment till the Ducks take over and now they’ll look left to right back to the neutral zone. Helenius deflects a pass. Kings try to take over again in front of the penalty boxes but Anaheim will drop it back. Shots were 20-10 in favor of LA through the first 20 minutes of this game and they led on the scoreboard two to one. Back around to the near wall. Right point Ducks couldn’t hold it in. It was past Luno. Helenius scampers after it but he’s at the end of a long shift so he couldn’t win the race to the puck and now Becket Senica for Anaheim. Third overall pick from the 2024 draft. Loses it as he approached the Kings blue line. And now the Ducks a trailer will step in. Noah Warren and slap it deep. Puck behind the Kings net. D’vorak turns away with a puck toward the near circle and banks it off the glass. Knocked down by Luno with a high stick and then they’ll say he played it with his hand as well. So a hand pass with 1709 to play in the period. And D’vorak at the end of a long shift put the puck high off the glass. Kings had a little bit of coverage coming back over the left side boards and end up being a hand pass. So the faceoff will come just outside the Kings blue line. But the Borak again, especially in the second period, we’ve got the long line change. You want to make sure you get that puck out across your blue line. He did that and was able to get to the bench and allow the Kings to make a change. Neutralized faceoff win by the Ducks. They’ll start in left wing. A shot from there from a sharp angle is stopped by Portillo. And then some extracurriculars in front. It’s a little bit of traffic in front of the goal. Kings didn’t like it with Jud Cfield right on top of Portillo. Now that shot on goal that came off the stick of Zelwigger. Zel Greger has been the most aggressive offensive player for Anaheim. And again, he’s a defender of the 11 shots. Unofficially, he’s been credited with five of those 11 shots. I’m curious how much of this game has been spent by Zelwagger or his offensive zone time has been spent below the faceoff circles. Yeah, very aggressive, not afraid to get involved because he trusts his skating ability to be able to get back and recover. Kings with three in the rush out of their own zone down the middle. Was looking for Thomas but had it skip over his or rather Hicks had it skip over his stick. Now Hicks has it again. Feeds CC and the Kings tiptoe in right wing. Fired around the wall counterclockwise by Ward. And now Panelli in the corner got bodied up there by the big forward Gocha. And now the Ducks out of their own zone. Rolled all the way down the ice. No icing, so the goalender Portillo’s out to get it. He’ll fire it the other way. And this will not be an icing against the Kings. The Ducks take over in their own zone. Send it up the right wing for Gocha. Now Caulfield steps free toward the right circle. Tried to center it and it got blocked away before it could get to Cedarov. Now the Kings intercept. Backhanded toward the Ducks line, but there wasn’t enough on the pass to Deno to create a breakaway chance. Kings keep it in the duck zone and behind the goal. for Warren Fogle through the trapezoid toward the left wing side. Steps away and drops it back toward the left wing. Moari hands it back to Moore. Cross ice pass and now Clark faked the shot then shoots. Saved by Morazzic with the glove with 1549 to play in the second. Yeah, good little hesitation play there by Brian Clark. Initially went to shoot the puck. The player coming out to cover him went by him. That opened up the lane. He was able to filter that puck through to the net. Morazzi came across to his left and out a little bit. He was able to find the shot, make the save. Offensive zone face off for the Kings to the left of the goalender Morazzi. So that group stays out for the Kings. Deno Moore and Fogle the forwards. Moare and Clark the defenseman. But we will do it again after the faceoff and they will ask Deno to vacate. So Trevor Moore steps in and the Ducks win the draw. Fogle nearly came away with it at the bottom of the right circle. Ducks left to right through the neutral zone now and roll it deep for Portillo out to get it. Swings it to the near wall. Knocked down by Luno. Hands it to his right. Nico Miatic steps in. Lefty forward. Puck on his backand then back to his forehand and he steps around the right wing corner boards. Feeds Kangelo and then back behind the net. Tried to leave it there for Mach. and then up the wall toward the left point. Swung right side. Luno’s shot blocked behind the goal. Ducks looking for it as it skipped off the back of the cage then tucked in front. Stopped by Portillo. Loose puck behind the cage again. Knocked away by Moari who lifts the puck way up in the air and he hit the scoreboard and then it came crashing back to the ice. Did that dislodge a panel on the big board? Uh, I don’t think so. I think everything stayed intact, but it may have uh given one of the lights a little bit of a shake. I think maybe uh one of the lights maybe went dim or something. Blocked off a little bit, but he got good elevation right there and had good hang time. The Kings would have definitely been able to get to the bench for a line change, but here he hits the clock. Faceoff comes all the way back into the King’s own. It looks like one of those panels is dimmer than it was a few moments ago. Back underway. Big check on Burroughs from Washi behind the Kings net, but LA takes over and Burroughs has it far wall. Flips it to the middle for Jacob D’vorak. And here come the Kings back into the neutral zone. It’s intercepted by Anaheim near wall. And then the Ducks are going to get whistled offside with 1448 to play in the frame. Now with D’vorak picked up that puck there, you’d like to see him Burls did a really nice job at changing the point of exit. He moved the puck from the right side over to the left. The Vorac like to see him get his legs in motion a little bit just before he gets the puck. That way he’ll draw a player to him and then he has an avenue to be able to move the puck. But when you’re standing still, you put you kind of handcuff yourself a little bit and you’re forced to just chip the puck off the glass and that one got knocked down at the blue line. Back underway second period. Armia shoots it deep to the duck zone then collects the puck, steps behind the net around toward the near circle. Yoel Arma after seven years with Montreal feeds D’vorak whose shot is blocked up in the air and then back to Arma left wing curls up the wall turns and shoots with a body in front. That was Greenree got deflected away off of Green Tree and then chipped behind the goal by Anaheim. Aria after it left wing side D’vorak couldn’t hold it in but LeFrier will. He’ll turn and loop the puck all the way to the far corner. Kings in the offensive zone. Greenree picks it out of skates with help from Arma. The Ducks will intercept along the far boards and try to settle it in their own zone on the tape of the defenseman Olen Zelwagger. Yeah, with the defenseman kind of going back and forth with it, both teams were able to get some changes. Forwards on both sides were able to get to the bench. We got fresh six sets of fresh legs out there. Bank the puck up the wall and then the Ducks trying to find it in the neutral zone. They’ll come away with it. Stepping down the middle, it rolled off a duck stick into the far wall. Was off of Senica and now back into the right wing corner. chipped up the boards. Ducks will let it go. Kings wanted the hand pass. Not going to get it and then scooped up by Burroughs. Maybe a miscommunication between him and Jared Wright on who was going to play the puck and instead with Burroughs sending it up the wall. It ends up being an icing against the Kings. Yeah, the Kings are towards the end of a shift as well. So, Anaheim will make a line change here. Gail get some fresh legs out, try to take advantage of the Kings being a little bit on the tired side of things. Big face off coming up. Anaheim’s going to change the position. is going to go to the other side of the ice. Goce out against Helenius for the draw to the left of Portillo. Two big bodied forwards, Helenius and Gochce. But gocha certainly doesn’t look too big when he’s standing next to Helenius, but most people don’t. Buck in the King zone and Helenius scoops it up in the corner. Tried to take it up the wall. Coughfield intercepts to the blue line. Left point to right point. Moore shoots. Tipped. score in front, it’s Gocha who looked to have the last touch. And with 1310 to play in the second, the Ducks do take advantage of the icing and tired skaters out. It’s 2-2. Yeah, it was a heads up play off a clean faceoff win. They get the puck up high. They move it back to the right point and with traffic establishing itself in front of the net. Just a nice tip there by Go. He got right in front of the goalender. Maybe a little bit of a double screen as the King defender was right alongside him right there. Portillo couldn’t find the puck and then the tip at the last second. It goes back between the legs of Portillo to not the game of two. So the Ducks two goals on 13 shots in this one. The Kings have two on 21. Only one shot in this period so far for the Kings of the first seven minutes. So gocha gets the goal from the defenseman Ian Moore and then Igor Cedarov with the second assist to make it 2-2 and now the Kings in possession starting back into the neutral zone. Hicks tried to find it between Penelli’s skates. Those two were tangled up and Hicks just shoots it deep. Penelli after it. Thomas there as well. Penelli in front. A quick shot from Ward. Stick save by Peter Morazzic. And now Anaheim left to right in the neutral zone. They will roll it deep to the King zone. Heads up play there by Ward. Instead of driving towards it and he drifted back into the slot, he found the sweet spot. Nobody in front of him. He got the shot right through to the net. Morazzic with a good read and made the save. Mhach behind the goal around for Thomas. He’ll lift it up the boards and takes a deflection back into the Anaheim zone. Not far enough for an icing so the Kings can change personnel. Duck’s going to do forward line out. Right wing check thrown on past job by Hicks. And now Moari after it in the near corner. Takes it back up the wall and past to Jop. Check by Fogle. Guides it in deep. Movari boxes out Warren. The big defenseman. Then a big check on Hicks. That’s going to be a penalty against the Ducks. Delayed penalty on Anaheim. And it’ll be touched up by the Ducks. The Kings will go to the power play for the fourth time in this game. We’ll take a break. Ducks have tied it at two. And with 1143 remaining in the second period, Kings will go to the power play. Back after this with more on Samsung Silver and the ESPN LA Kings Radio Network. Tim Washi back to the penalty box for Anaheim. He sits two for boarding and the Kings go to the power play for the fourth time, but they can’t win the draw on the offensive end. And the Ducks send it back the other direction. Anaheim has tied the game here in the second period. Kings with another opportunity to swing the momentum in their favor. Trying to send it into the offensive zone and well poked back into the corner. Taken toward the front. A loose puck rolls free and the Ducks will intercept and clear it down the ice. Nice job defensively by Anaheim. Looked like Trevor Moore was going to be able to jump to the front of the net within possession of the puck, but the forwards collapsed. The for the two defense converged on him so he had nohere to move the puck and he couldn’t handle it clean. King center right wing Trevor Moore cross ice pass on a backhander for Moore ends up with Fogle. He’ll curl up top then swings it right circle tip back to the front for Deno and a save by Morazzic. Good setup by the Kings up top. Clark cross ice pass for Moore. He’ll skate it wide to the wall and then around the circle up top. Shoot save. rebound swing and a miss from Lefer. It might have got deflected as he tried to take the shot. And now the Ducks clear it down the ice again. Yeah, about halfway through the power play. We’ll see those guys head to the bench. We get some fresh legs out here to see if the Kings can connect on the second half of this power play. And comes Lefari again. There’s still some holdouts from the top unit. His shot goes wide. Clark over to the right point. Holds the zone. Feeds it back down into the corner. Up top Clark. One-time pad save by Morazzic. Loose puck to the far corner. Ducks intercept and smack it down the ice again with 50 seconds to go on the or rather 30 seconds to go, excuse me, on the Anaheim penalty. Kings enter left wing. Ward cross ice pass. Kings hold it in right side. Skated in deep by Arma. Drops it to Burroughs at the blue line. Swings it to the left. Ward toward the middle and skates. Loose puck. Arma tried to find it. Wrapped in front. penalty against the Ducks as Arma was held on to and the Kings will have a five on three advantage for just 10 seconds and then another minute 50 to work with and it’s going to be a key face off here and of course with the face off in the offensive zone that gives the Kings an advantage. A little surprised I thought we might see the Deno line come out cuz Deno has been so good in the faceoff circle but they’re going to leave this unit out. They drew the penalty. So the unit with Greenree, Arma, and Akquil Thomas up front, Ward and Burroughs, they’ll complete the fiveman unit for the Kings. Big face off to the left of Morazz. Ducks have certainly taken a lot of penalties in this game, but the Kings don’t have anything to show for it, at least not officially. Ward did score just seconds after the Kings pen or power play expired in the first period, but still looking to get the momentum in their favor here in the second. Ducks have tied it. Knocked the face off. Burroughs collects right point. Hands it to the circles. Cross ice pass up top. Ward couldn’t shoot. Gives it back to Burroughs. Center point. Back to Ward. One man out of the box. Washi rejoins the penalty kill. Cross ice pass. Ward shoots. Fired it wide left of an empty net. He nearly had his second and probably should have. Greenree shoots, blocked, loose puck, dribbles between the circles. The Ducks intercept and clear it down the ice. Yeah, that was a good setup there. Ward on his off wing. He had a lot of room on the short side and tried to thread the needle a little bit too clean, but there was a lot of room there to the right of Morassic. And now icing against the Kings here as they tried to quickly flip the ice back the other way. 129 left on the Mintikov penalty. Yeah, because of the icing, they’re not able to change that line. So that line’s got to stay on the ice. I’m sure we’re going to see the Deno unit step out as quick as they can. 922 to play in the period. Shots are 2614 LA, but the game is tied 2-2 on Nathan Gochce’s second period goal. So Burrows out to center. He’ll turn and leave it for Aquil Thomas. Second unit stays out. Now Greenree left wing tried to give it to Ward but couldn’t. So he’ll chase it down and swing the puck behind the goal himself. Big collision behind the play. Thomas fell down to the ice and the Ducks will clear it again. One minute to go on the Anaheim penalty to Pavle Mikov as the Kings will keep this unit out. Burroughs turns and leaves it for Alex Lefarier. He steps up the right wing, side steps a check. Zelwagger intercepts behind the Gold Ducks knock it into the corner. Washi out, lifts it up the wall, held in by Clark left point. First unit starting to come out. Swung right side. Moore toward the circle. Hands it off and then up top. Held on by Greenree to the middle. A shot fired wide by Ward and it carams all the way down the ice. Now Ward’s had a couple of good looks. One on the opposite side of the ice and that one right there. Right in his wheelhouse. He let it go. Caught all of it just wide to the stick side of the goender Morazzic. A fairy air in the ozone left wing to the blue line. Clark shoots. It’s deflected wide left now. Fogle base of the left circle. 18 seconds to go on the LA power play. Leferier feeds it up top. Clark over to the right circle. Held on to there by Moore. Cross ice pass. A one-timer from Lefari. Sticked away by Morazzic. And now Deno in the corner. 5 seconds left on the LA power play. Moore. Curls toward the right circle. Man out of the box. Moore in front. Tried to center. Banks it off the goalender, but held on to by Morazzic at the back post. The Kings come up empty on another power play chance, but certainly had some opportunities. We’ll take a break. 748 to play in the second. Dzone faceoff one by the Ducks gets us back underway here in the second period at the home of the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, the affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, who both the Kings and Ducks affiliates, the rain and goals, respectively, play all the time in the American League season. Ducks step in and a shot from between the dots is blocked. Kings take it away. Andre Lee right to left through the neutral zone. Ladles it in right wing. Ducks after it. Ian Moore gets there first. Pulls it up the wall. Kings couldn’t hold it in. Foot race back to the LA line to get the puck and the Kings get there first. Tipped on by Helenius. Anaheim intercepts and Washi. Took a hard check from Hicks near wall. Joe Hicks the Ontario captain battling for it. And it comes free. It’s picked up by Samuel Helenius over the Condors logo at center. Tried to send it right wing. It got tipped up and into the Kings bench out of play with under seven minutes remaining. The Kings in the first period put up 20 shots on goal here with just under seven minutes left in the second period. Unofficially Kings seven shots on goal and they’ve had two power plays here including a five on three for 11 seconds just moments ago. So just like to see that shot mentality come back for the Kings a little bit. The flow of the game has kind of been disrupted a little bit here in this period. Hasn’t been as consistent it was in the first period. I think some of it has to do with the Kings and with the long line change here and the penalties that we’ve had. They haven’t been able to get their four lines in sync. Yeah, a lot of penalties in this game too. The Ducks have taken a majority of them. Four penalties for Anaheim, only one for the Kings. And a shot off the draw stopped by Morazzic. Ducks are one for one on the power play today. Rather, five penalties for Anaheim. The Kings are 0 for five on the advantage of a shot that ends up way out of play. In fact, it fluttered up over the netting behind the Anaheim net. Almost into a sweep and I think somebody caught in the puck, too. Kings fan. Yeah, little pop fly there into the seats. Anaheim will make a line change with that faceoff will stay to deep in the duck zone. Panelli out there along with Ward. Penelli’s been a little bit on the quiet side in this game. I thought the game previously that he played and he had the puck and a stick a little bit more of a shot mentality, but in this game here and I think again a lot of it has to do with not as much ice time because the all the penalties. Shot off the draw rang wide from Achille Thomas and now loose puck in front. Ward for Thomas. He shoots and a save by Morazzic and the Ducks will take it away and start back into the neutral zone. Darl, I don’t know if you heard that, but right after I said pop fly and where it went into the seats, uh deer rule, who is here today playing the organ, played take me out to the ball game. And now there’s some shoving behind the Kings net. Looks like we’re going to get a penalty on the Kings already. Thomas and Zelwagger are going at it. Those two have duled in the American League before. Ward and Warren are involved and they’re going to have to separate parties. Going to get at least one penalty out of this and I think it might go to Achille Thomas. I think when you get teams that uh play as many games as these guys have played against each other, you start to get underneath each other’s skin a little bit also long preeason through training camp into the preseason games guys get a little bit uh little bit honory out there and uh Kyle Burls is going to make his way to the box. He’s going to draw an interference call. to Anaheim who have one of their two goals on the power play. They’ll have a power play here in the second period with 627 left and it’ll be the faceoff will be in the offensive zone for Anaheim to the right of the goalender Portillo. We have not seen really any chippiness in the preseason at all so far. And yes, it’s the same teams playing against each other and over over and over again, but there’s a lot of different personnel uh coming in and out of the lineup. So, that might have an impact on that, too. But these last couple of minutes here in the second period, we’ve started to get some post- whistle altercations. And with the altercation there coming and the defenseman involved beneath the faceoff circles in the King zone, the face off to start the power play came back out to center ice and on this next zone entry. The Kings intercept and clear. Yeah, right in there on the fore. He’s got great legs real quick and he forced Morasic to hold on which also took time off the penley forcing Anaheim to come all the way deep into their own zone. fire it deep behind the goal played by Portillo around the wall and held in by Anaheim right point by Luno who then got pushed down to the ice near wall big check thrown along the glass on Kangelo left circle a shot toward the goal blocked by Cece and now cleared all the way down the ice by LA good penalty kill there by Cece you get in the shooting lane you block the puck you jump on the puck didn’t even phase him when he got hit with the puck he went right after it send it the distance allowing the Kings to reestablish their form formation in the neutral zone. Duck center left to right. Cross ice pass was behind the intended target. Kings can’t get it out. Kangelo holds it in left circle. Shoots. Saved by Portillo. Puck in the trapper with 521 to go in the period and 54 seconds left on Burrow’s minor penalty. Good read there by Portillo. Kangelo had a uh a little bit of an advantage with being a right-handed shot coming in on the left wing. So he’s got the puck in the middle of the ice and Portillo did a really good job getting out aggressively to the edge of the blue paint there. Squared out for the shot taking away anything for Gladel to be able to look at behind him. Left circle draw one by the Ducks up top. Phillips will hold it in the forward plan up at the blue line and now wrapped around the wall toward the near side. Fogle can’t get it out. Phillips holds it in for a moment. He got tied up and then slots it in deep behind the goal. Tim Washi slowly rolls it to a teammate along the boards and then taken up top. Luno back to the left wing. Pressured there and could not keep it in the zone. Great work there by Clark leading with his body tangled up with the opposing player and then positioned his skates. He turned his skates as the Ducks tried to slide the puck down the boards and he was able to push it out with his right skate. Mentioned it earlier, Jim Hiller was very complimentary of how well Brandt Clark has played here in the preseason, especially the other night against the Ducks. Puck back in the neutral zone. Final 10 seconds of the penalty to Burroughs. He rises to his feet in the Kings penalty box. And now the Ducks back down the ice the other direction. They’ll fire it deep. Loose puck rolls to the front. A chance for Cedarov and a save by Portillo as the net gets dislodged. Yeah, Cedar just came out of nowhere there be able to pounce on that puck off the backboard. Portillo, thank God for him, he was alert as to what was going on. Otherwise, Cedro may had a lot of net to look at. We’ll take a break. 423 left in the second here in Bakersfield. watching Samsung Silver and listening to the ESPN LA Kings radio network. 423 left in the second period at Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield. And a face off deep to the King zone to the right of goalender Eric Portillo and the Ducks will see Nathan Goce tossed from the circle. And in comes Jud Cfield who wins the faceoff back for Cedarov. He had the last chance in front of Portillo and puts one on goal from a sharp angle. Gets his own rebound, steps in front, shoots, and a save by Portillo. And now some more shoving in front. Go and Cfield both involved. Cedarov wants to play as well and they get separated. The Ducks defenseman stay behind the faceoff dots. Yeah, Ducks were able to get control from the faceoff. Cedarov came around the top, threw the puck at the net. Anaheim’s been a lot more deliberate at getting himself to the front of the net. More traffic around the net. King’s defense doing a good job at boxing out Penelli there. He got involved with Cfield for a second. Just moving guys around, keeping that front of the net area clean. 4:15 to play in the period. The Ducks have tied it this frame on a redirected shot by Gohea. And now off the draw, shot saved by Portillo. I don’t think that he was in the position he thought he was going to be when he made that save, but puck kind of fluttered away. And now a foot race down the ice. Ducks will win the race to the puck, but Greenree all over the Ducks defenseman more. And now they’ll battle for it in the near corner in the Anaheim zone. Under four to play in the period. Arma battling with Gocha. Ducks will take it away. step into the trapezoid and roll it around the wall, but it’s intercepted by Burroughs. Sends it right back where it came from in the trapezoid. Kings there with Arma fans on a pass up the wall. Battles for it. Got collided with along the glass and the Ducks slide it back into the neutral zone. Burrows over to get it. His pass intercepted. Ducks step in left wing cutting toward the circle. A wrist shot off the bar and it stayed out. Kings come back the other way. Fogle down the middle, side steps. One man, tried to go after the puck, but got ridden outside into the wall. And now Moore tiptoes behind the goal. Trevor Moore still with it. Pressured by Zelwagger. Steps behind the net and then feeds it up top. Clark right point. Steps to his left. Moari to the middle. Kings can’t shoot. Deno back to the right wing. Clark slaps it in deep. And now Moore tiptoes around the outside of the far circle. lost the puck to Cawfield who lifts it up in the air and all the way down the ice but not far enough for an icing. Kings back to get it there. Movari takes a man to the ice. Clark over to help out looking for the puck. It deflects high off the glass. Senica after it in the trapezoid and it rolls back around to the right wing corner. Kings after it again and the Ducks hold it in up top. A shot from Paling got blocked off of a King stick and out of the zone. Yeah. And blocking that shot was Brandt Clark. He came all the way up high to stay in that shooting lane. Kings take it away. Threeon-one. Here comes Lee in front. Was looking for a man back door, but the pass was behind him. 215 to play in the period. Ducks step back into the offensive zone and roll it deep. It’s cut off by Hicks and rimmed around the wall for Helenius. And now Lee had it taken off his stick by Miatavic. And back down the ice. The Ducks will start again. Stretch pass in front of the Anaheim bench. It was deflected by Cece and then it hit the curved glass at the end of the Ducks bench with 203 left and so we’ll get a whistle. That last shift there for Cedarov for Anaheim. Solid shift. Three shot attempts at the net. Two shots were on goal. Those were both turn aside by Portillo. And then the third bit as he was going down the left side to try to go against the grain. He threw it off the pike, but a good release alongside the skates of the defender. Portillo lost it for a split second. Off the faceoff duck step away into the offensive zone. Miadavic left wing. He’ll fire it around the Kings net. Kangelo right back around away from Miadavic. Cut off by Yoel Arma. Arma turns and guides it back into the neutral zone. Here come the Kings in a two-on-one rightwing. Lefer in front. Green Tree. It jumped over his stick. And now the puck tied up left wing wall. Kings have had a couple of those kind of looks today. Hickicket shoots. It’s blocked away. And now Leferier right wing curls the puck away from a Ducks forward and then swings it around the wall. Kings in the left wing corner with Arma Greenree hovering trying to find the puck as well. Two Ducks players are there held along the wall with a minute 15 to play in the period. Kings come away with it. A cross ice pass is blocked. Leferier steps through a check and then holds up left corner fanned on a pass up top. Gets it back. sends it to Hicks who fakes a shot, sidesteps one man, skates in and shoots. Tipped, loose puck toward the blue paint and put wide by the Kings. Final minute of play in the second period. Tired skaters out for both sides at the blue line. Kings hold it in left wing. Hickicket will fire it in deep off the back of the Ducks net. Kings looking for it behind the goal. Thomas steps out of a check and then got taken down but kept it moving to the blue line. Hicks over to the right wing. A shot from there blocked behind the net with 35 seconds left. Kings circling in the offensive end. Penelli centering feed is blocked. Keeps it moving. And now Ward right circle can’t shoot. He’ll step up top. Cross ice pass. Cece couldn’t find it. Now he will and send it deep. It’s cut off by the Ducks. Played up the wall. Penelli can’t hold it in. 20 seconds left. The Kings rolling it back into the neutral zone. Ducks trying to get new fresh skaters on. Cross ice pass. Ward couldn’t hold it in. 10 seconds left in the frame and the puck’s in the neutral zone. Maybe one more chance for LA, but Ward didn’t have the legs to keep the play going. He’ll roll it deep and that will bring period 2 to a close. The Ducks tie it on a redirect from Nathan Goce and it’s 2-2 through 40 minutes. I thought the Ducks in that period did a better job at getting toward the front of the net. A little bit more traffic around the goal and the goal was a result of a tip in the slot area with a little bit of a distraction for Portillo. I thought Portillo did a good job at fighting to get out to the edge of the blue paint. Offensively, not as many shots for the Kings. Power play. They had a couple of good looks. Ward had a couple of chances. They were looked upon as good chances, but he just his shot was just off the mark. So, hitting the net important. Kings have hit the net with consistency. They put up 30 shots, but through 40 minutes of play, the score is tied at two. Take a break. Second intermission report is next here in Bakersfield. Kings to Ducks to the ESPN LA Kings Radio Network. It’s time for the second game in as many nights as the preeason schedule rolls on for the LA Kings. Tonight, a brand new lineup takes the ice in Orange County for game three of the exhibition slate as the Kings visit the Anaheim Ducks. up top. Mikov shoots. Saved by Keer in the glove through traffic with 1843 remaining in the first period. He’s just the Swiss Army knife on the blue line, I guess, here in the preseason as the Duck center left wing. Sharp angle shot stopped by Keer at the far post. He will hand it to Biffield. He speeds up top around the perimeter. Long shot hit his own teammate Lefari in front and now Bfield picks it back up along the wall in front. Lefari shoots. Glove save by Dostall. Rebound jumped out of his trapper to the far wall. playing against the other team’s top players. Faceoffs are a big part and he’d like to improve in that area. Kings win the draw here. Right point shot, sliding glove save. Go stall at the far post. Kept on the ice, but the player had not gotten off on the change. So wisely they let it go between each other. Kusme to the right circle. A shot blocked in front. Kempe trying to let one go from the base of the right circle on this on this power play for the Kings. Kings bring it back. Kempe in front. A shot saved by Dostall on Kopitar at the back post and now Helenius in the right corner up top. Room for Anderson. High slot shoots. Saved Doall and the loose puck sprung into the near corner. His linemates are on the bench and now he’ll fire it deep to the duck zone and stays out. Intercepted in front. Thomas tried to wrap it around the goalender and couldn’t get it to go. Akquil Thomas just trying to step to the front of the net. Found the puck and then shoots a one-time from the inside of the right circle and has it smothered by Doaw. Couple of good looks for Heel Thomas. Both stopped by the big goalender Lucas Dostall. And now Malot sends it up the near wall out to center ice. Approaching the final 90 seconds of the frame. Kings come away with it. Malot down the middle. Feeds right wing. Wrist shot. Score. Martin Chromiac on the rush. Gets the quick feed from Malot and fires it past Luc. Don’t stall. And with a minute 34 to play in the first, it’s one- nothing LA. Well, nice execution there by the Kings off the rush. This one comes. Good play by Malot. Took a little step towards his left. Pulled the defender across. That was Trouba. That opened up the passing lane. And coming in, Croak in stride. Lets it go off his right leg. Puts it short side upstairs. Martin Chromia with a wrist shot past no stall. Scoring off the feed from Malot on the rush. And LA’s got the advantage through 20 minutes. And now Kopitar shuffles it along the wall. Kuzmano to the blue line. Kempe back for Kuzmano left wing. He skates up top. Beats Kempe. One-time saved. Dostall. No rebound. They weren’t much better on the PK either. Step in right wing. Turned it over. Swung down the ice. Here comes Bfield short-handed with a step by field. Stopped by Dost Stall as it glanced off the goalender I believe. And then over the net. Last part of the shift there for him. So he headed right to the bench. And fortunate enough the Kings were able to make sure they got the puck out allowing that uh guard to get to the bench. Here come the Kings. Kopitar shorthanded. Kopitar fired it wide. Got slashed a little bit late. Righty defenseman out of Boston College. Starts it up the right wing. In come the Ducks. Tiptoeing toward the middle. Dropped it back right side. Mint shoots. A save by Keer. Loose puck still free. Terry in front over to the right circle. Too much on the pass for Mintov and he bobbled it. Wing before it kind of came to a halt in front of off to Yamson. Loose puck dribbles up top. Kings hold it in left circle. Wrist shot. Glove saved. Do stall on Woolly. He let go of a deceptive wrist shot and a flash of the leather from Luage Dos Stall and all the way down to create a breakaway chance. Now the Kings with three in the rush the other way. Kusmano to the middle. Fiala back to the front. Loose puck. It’s put wide by the Kings. Backs can’t clear yet. Kusmano holds the line. Kuzmano tried to center it. Went off a body and wide. Couldn’t find Kopitar. Centering pass. Loose puck is put just wide by Biffield. as time expires on period two. Very much involved Sunday in Ontario. Scored the opening goal for the Ducks. Created what seemed to be a majority of the Ducks chances. Now in front, a shot saved by Keer and it came in from the base of the far circle. Harry’s got it. Loses it up top. Woolly swings it right side. Burrows turn shoots. Tip score. Jeff Milot goes in backto back games. A perfect redirect into the top right corner on the shot from Burroughs. Two goals in two games for Milant. And with 1218 to play in the third period, it’s two nothing LA. Oh, that’s classic execution right there. Nice pass back at the left point. Kings have possession of the puck. Woolly feeds it over to Burroughs. Burrows has got his head up and Malot instead of driving to the top of the blue paint, he comes back towards the shot. where he’s out in a high slot because Thomas was down distracting the defender. Gets a stick on it. Puts it over the left shoulder of the goalender. That’s just a great tip there as he beats Clang. And the Kings are up two nothing. Let’s pick it up. Start the other way. Short-handed. Got a man in front centering pass. Backhander. Sliding save by Keer at the near post. And he tried to keep the puck moving, but the referees blow the play dead. It’s in the offensive zone. Center point. Kempe turns and shoots. Loose puck in front. Kusmeo tried to play the puck between his own legs and shoot, but he couldn’t get the shot off. And the Ducks clear it to Clark to his right. Second unit out. Downey one-time save. Loose puck swung at by the Kings in the low slot and stopped by Clang with 25 seconds to play on the in the Kings power play. Trying to complete a full line change. Luno still out. Kings gave it away in front. Wrist got banned on. Loose puck behind the goal. Tried to put it in front. Blocked by the Kings. Keer was caught out of the net. Ducks have it with Luno whose shot is blocked by the Kings again. Take over the puck in their own zone after Adidena’s own faceoff win. Start the other way. Lefari into the right corner. Couldn’t center it. Then drops it in front and they score at the back post. Tucked in by FIA on a fantastic feed from Alex Leferier. And with 737 left, it’s 3 nothing LA. It’s just a great play on the entry by Lefarier. He takes the puck down the right side. A right-handed shot. He was trying to drive towards the net. There was no avenue. Mitukov kept him outside and as he drove, he got halfway around the net. FIA at the short side. He stopped up right at the post and a nice little With every new hockey season, there comes the opportunity to stand out from the pride, to be bold, to be royalty, to be the lion. A lion doesn’t lose sleep over the opinion of ducks. Embrace your inner lion and make choices on your own terms. Introducing tickets by LA Kings. My name is Enis Copitar. Uh, and today we’re going to surprise my husband Ana Kopitar with the Lady trophy. We’re in Slovenia uh at our uh home golf course, I guess, the Royal Blade, and we have a a so-called family match. You know, me, my dad, and Yakob are here just having some fun. It’s going to be very special just I think because the kids are are present. This is our first time doing it this way and I think he’s going to be super excited. Boom. Four four four five delete that please. They’re super excited. Especially yesterday when you guys came over and this morning I didn’t have to say anything twice. I was like get dressed. They were dressed. I’m like, what is going on? I was like, we could keep doing that. And then instead of like Andre Kopitar this, I’m going to write um nice nicest dad in the NHL. That’s what I’m going to write. He’s going to be finishing the first nine. We’re going to wait and see when he reaches the green. Yo, we have a surprise for you. What do you got? fell. Oh, knock up. Thank you. Here you go. Oh, knock up. Is that what I think it is? Okay. You won the award for the nicest NHL player. Oh, thank you. Thank you. Thank you, baby. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All right. Thank you. Here you go. I think it was happiness. Uh, and he was like surprised and he just loved it. How does it feel? Feels great. Nicest player. Two two penalty minutes I think this year, right? Two. But well earned though. Well earned. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I thought it was just going to be a friendly 10 holes of golf with I guess family golf and then a little bit of lunch. So this was a very obviously very pleasant surprise when I guess the kids brought it out on on the ninth green. I mean to me it means it’s just being I guess so-called a gentleman. You know hockey is a physical sport but within those parameters I think there’s obviously room I guess a gentleman a good guy you know I guess having respect towards your peers towards the officials just carry yourself in a way to where kids look at you young kids look at you what what you do on the ice. I guess this exemplifies that it’s doable and I’m honored to to have won it three times now and it means a great deal to me. 20 minutes on the board. Kings and the Ducks tied at two as we head to the third period at Dignity Health Arena in downtown Bakersfield. Josh Schaefer, Daryl Evans with you tonight along with our outside producer engineer Jake Warner, network producer Jeff Kbat back in in our downtown LA studio and Andy Dickerson, Caleb Tessator on site, our Black Dog Hockey production crew. Turnover in front. A shot score, Trevor Moore. 10 seconds into the period, the Ducks blub the puck in their own zone and the Kings take advantage. They lead 3-2. Now you go back to center ice. Kings win the draw again to know they get the puck in deep. Anaheim in possession with it and then two players collided. Trevor Moore picked up the puck. He had Deno to his right for an option, a twoon one, but he elected to snap the puck, not let Barasic get set. An unassisted goal for the Kings and Trevor Moore and the Kings lead it three-2. It wasn’t quite like the goal in Utah that we saw last year, Daryl, where they just gave it right to him as they step back in and Moore drops it to the blue line. A shot that deflects out of play. That was something where the Kings had just failed to get chances all game and then out of nowhere, the Kings tied the game and took the lead in a matter of seconds in Utah. Yeah, that was quite the goal. Quite a memorable one, that’s for sure. So Trevor Moore has the Kings back on top. Just 10 seconds into the period. Maybe they say 14 seconds. I think Yeah, I think the clock maybe on the board wasn’t running. I don’t I’m not sure when the play had stopped. When I looked up it said 950 on the or 1950 on the big board. So 14 seconds in the Kings are back in front and now they’ve got the puck in the offensive zone as well. Rolled toward the right circle picked up by Coughfield. He’ll lift it back into the neutral zone off of King’s glove and gocha had a look. He had the Ducks go in the second period. And now Anaheim back in their own zone. Well, the Ducks with a couple of new faces on the coaching staff. Joel Quenville, longtime Blackhawks head coach, is here to lead this Anaheim group this year. And one of the first things he did was add Jay Woodraftoft, former Oilers coach, former Bakersfield Condors head coach to the staff. Now Joel Arma steps in in front. Save by Morazzic. Kicked it out once and twice with the right pad. And now back the other direction comes Anaheim. Good job there by Arma sticking with that play. He attacked the defender. He was stopped and then the puck kind of slid through, but he continued to keep his legs going. That allowed him to fight the check. Got a stick on it. Reconnected in behind the defender, sweeping the puck at Morass. Save by Bortillo. Less than two minutes off the clock and the faceoff will stay in the King zone to his right in the left circle. Ducks win the draw. Pulled back to Zelwagger at the blue line. Spins it to his right. Shot from there. Saved by Portillo. No rebound with just a few more seconds off the clock. And is that Brent Clark going spinning down to the ice in the far corner? I think it was kind of a little collision and lost his balance. Yeah, he definitely had a few rotations on that spin, but a point shot this time. It was born with the shot. Two shot last two shots for Anaheim. first two shots of the period have both been from back in the blue line. They’re trying to establish a little bit of traffic in front and Portillo on both shots here on this ship did a good job getting his eyes on it early. That way when he’s able to make the save, there’s no rebound. Kings win this faceoff to get playback underway. And Overrari rolls the puck counterclockwise around to the near side and then look back into the neutral zone. Collected by Warren. Had it poked away. Lee tries to poke it deeper into the zone. collected by right along the near wall. Turns and spins it deep, but Lee couldn’t find it. Around the board’s left wing and Senica gets there in front of Helenius. Kings knock it down. Ducks player lost a stick. It’s wristed in deep by the Kings again. And Jared Wright immediately scampering after it in the offensive zone. Good use of this reach there by Lee. He kept that play alive because of that long reach. Just kept pushing the puck ahead and then allowed the Kings to be able to reconnect in the offensive end. Anaheim offside at the Kings line. 20 off the clock. Third period. Trevor Moore has gotten the Kings back into it. And now we get some more extracurriculars in the neutral zone. Lee and Mityukov and Tim Washi involved. And Lee is trailing him and wants words with Tim Washi. Alanius involved as well. This all happened well away from where the play ended when the teams were going back to their benches. Yeah, definitely of the three games that these two teams have played uh during this week, this is the one that’s had the most conversation at the end of the whistles, the most little scrums and things like that. For sure. I guess you know, some guys have played each other all three times. I guess. Yeah, despite most of the lineups changing in the three meetings between these two teams so far, you don’t want to assume anything, but I think you’d expect more NHL ready lineups when these teams meet again on Saturday, next Saturday at Crypto.com Arena. I think that’s a pretty good bet, Josh. Yeah, final preseason game for both sides before opening night. Kings start the season at home on the 7th against Colorado. Immediately fly to Vegas after the game to meet the Knights the next day. And the puck ends up deflecting out of play in the King’s End. Yeah, D’Vorick with that puck. He was on his back end. So again, utilizing that glass to be able to make that play. Just like to see him again trust his own game. He skates well enough. He should be able to take that puck in behind the net, maybe stretch out Anaheim and move into the the Kings forwards cleanly. But again, that comes with maturity, confidence, and things like that. One thing I’ve noticed in talking to him throughout training camp is a grasp of the English language a lotier. commun uh a lot better than it was in the past. Communicating a lot better and understanding a lot better. I think that’s going to help him grow on the ice as well. Yeah, absolutely. We’ve seen that a couple times with similar players in in years past. Back underway and the Kings try to stretch the puck up the ice for Moore who has the go-ahad right now just 14 seconds into the period. Ducks will take it away and send it deep. Kings intercepting their own end. CeCe’s clearance attempt hit a teammate and that allows the Ducks to wrist it toward the goal. Portillo tried to clear himself, turned it over, ducks in left circle. A shot saved by Portillo. No rebound. And now Hicks involved with Luno in front of the goal. Yeah, that’s a save by Portillo. That comes on his own Miscu there. He tried to stretch the ducks out and send the puck up the ice. It was picked off. Miatovic came right in and you could tell with Portillo, he wasn’t quite as square as he normally is on every shot. As he made the save, he kind of looked behind him to make sure that it didn’t leak through, but he did make the save and I’m sure you’ll see him keep the puck to the outside as opposed to trying to go up the middle of the ice the next time. Face off to Portillo’s right. Certainly at this point expecting the two goalenders to go the distance. Yeah, that’s what it looks like. Can expect to see Phoenix Copley. One of these next two games against the Utah Mammoth either in Boise, Idaho or Salt Lake City, Utah. One game at Idaho Central Arena in Boise. The next will be at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, home of the Mammoth. It’s now back underway. Kings shoot it deep to the duck zone. Arma gets to the puck left wing. Tried to center the puck but fanned on it. He comes together with the defenseman Warren and the Ducks will skate it right to left back through the neutral zone over the Kings line. Senica off balance a little bit then checked by Lefarier and the Ducks turn it over the neutral zone. Green tree fed Lefarier who swatted it deep and now the Ducks after it with Ian Moore. I noticed with Senica in the games that we’ve seen him play this game here the Kings players have done a lot better job of taking away his time and space when he’s got a little extra room with his shot. He gets himself in a pretty good position but the Kings have denied him that opportunity here tonight. Anaheim with a puck in their own zone. Moore, the Harvard product, gave it away behind the net. Kings trying to maintain possession but lose it. Behind the goal, Moore’s got it again. Stretch pass up the far wall. Knocked down by D’vorak, but the loose puck is poked in deep by Anaheim. Burroughs is back to get it. Rattles it around the wall all the way down the ice, but it kind of came to a halt before Wright could collect in stride. Now Helenius steps in, hands it off uh back in front. Lee tried to center it for Helenius and the loose puck guided free by Anaheim. Kangelo down the ice. He’ll roll it deep to the Kings end. He and D’vorak after it and Kangelo will muscle it up top but nobody there. It rolls all the way back to the Ducks goalender. Yeah, with that all Kings will make their way to the bench there. Get some fresh legs out. One player pressuring the puck up ice, but Anaheim wisely gets back in quickly. Skate the puck out of their own zone taking advantage of the extra real estate. Left wing Hines tried to center it. Ends up behind the net with Caulfield. Pressured by Joe Hicks and then Cece there as well. Penelli will pick it up. The lefty forward tried to center for Thomas. It rolled past him and the Ducks defense all the way down the ice. And now Kangelo turns and drops it back. Hines slides it up the near wall and out into the neutral zone. Coughfield rolls it into the Kings. Good to see Ward come back filling in the backside of the defense with the defense standing up and Anaheim dumping the puck in. He’s the first one of the puck. Gets his feet turned up ice. Takes a look. Kings able to exit the zone clean in the neutral zone. Cece from the red line turns and leaves it back for Brent Clark who will lift it up the ice. Collected by Warren in the duck zone. Back the other way. In they come. Clean chance. Backhander saved by Portillo. He lost his stick but denies Senica of a game tying goal here in the third period. And that’s a player that Anaheim would like to see with the puck on a stick right there. tried to go backhand and elevate it, but Portillo with a great extension of his right leg denies the bit. Here they come again in the offensive zone. They couldn’t do much with the first rush chance. Now the Kings take it away and we’ll look left to right out of their own end. Right wing Warren Fogle hits the brakes as he enters the zone. Threads across ice pass for Trevor Moore. Couldn’t collect it as he battles with Mach in the far corner. And now Miatic over the blue line and out to center. Loses the puck. Kings squat it near side and Burroughs chips it to himself up the wall but too far ahead of him. So Zelwagger will collect and the Kings will back off. Olan Zelwagger second rounder from a couple of seasons ago started to come into his own in the American League and has played with the Ducks in the NHL as well. Now Leferier lost it. Ducks the other way. Lefari recovers nicely and recollects the puck. Kings in the neutral zone lead down the middle. Greenree nearly had it knifed away then fights to get it back. Lefer swings it in front. Burrows wide, fires wide right. Now he was looking to score right there, Josh. He came in, he knew he was all alone. Looking for a potential tip, but when nobody was there, he penetrated in, got in deeper, tried to go short side upstairs. His shot was just off the mark. Ducks take it away. Centering passes deflected by the goalender Portillo into his chest and he’ll freeze it for a whistle. 1258 to play in the game. Trevor Moore’s got the Kings back on top. Yeah, right now the Kings want to get back to that DNA that they have within their systems. Get pucks in deep, move up and down the ice in units of five and make good decisions, especially in the defensive zone. Anaheim’s going to be a little bit more aggressive now, trailing by a goal. And again, time becomes of an essence as the clock winds down. So, Kings would like to spend as much time in the offensive zone as they’d like. Here they are. Wright and Lee battling for it. Helenius is the big centerman hovering as Lee poked it down the ice and Wright was scampering after it. He just hasn’t quite had the space to get on the end of one of those pucks in this game so far, but he is certainly fun to watch when he gets a little bit of space. One of the quicker guys on the ice at all times and send the puck back into the neutral zone. Ducks hold it in within the red line with Zelwagger right off the bench. And now he steps out, gives it away. The Ducks will try to change. Here come the Kings the other way. Penelli after it along with Thomas. Noah Warren gets there first and around the wall. Senica turned and dropped it toward the middle. Picked up by Anaheim with Zelwagger up the wall and the Ducks force it in left wing deep to the King zone. Movari slots it around the boards and now picked up by LA once again. Back for Moari. He’s out there paired with Clark. Centering pass tipped away. Kings will intercept and start back out to center. Angled up the left wing by Penelli. Tried to sidestep one man. Couldn’t. And the Ducks will take it away and bank the puck off a stansion into the neutral zone. Thomas bumped away from the puck. Ducks will take over. And now in they come down the middle. A player got knocked over. It’s scooped up by the Kings. Here they come back into the neutral zone with Clark. He’ll gain the red line and fire the puck deep to the duck zone as the Kings change. Good play one-on-one there by Moar with Senakica. Senaka tried to beat him to the outside. Movar did a great job keeping his body in front of Senaka’s body, not allowing him to be able to turn the corner and reconnect with the puck. Deno at the King’s line. chips the puck away from trouble but couldn’t find Fogle. And now Tim Washi tried to step down the middle. Holds on possession of the puck and from the left wing wall. He’ll roll it in deep for a man behind the goal. It’s angled up top. Slapped over to the left wing. Miatic shot deflected up in the air and over the goal to the far wing and to know after it. Couple of Ducks players there as well. The Kings will take it away. More stretch pass down the ice. Finds Fogle. He’s got a step. Fogle in front. Shoots. Saved by Morazzic. No rebound to deny Fogle on the partial break chance down the ice. What a pass there by Trevor Moore. That’s a chemistry that those guys have built going back to last year and then training camp this year. Trevor Moore with possession of the puck. Waited timing of the release was perfect as he got right on the tape of Fogle. Fogle was in behind the defense and tried to beat Morasic. As Morasic came out, he tried to put it through him. Maybe try to go five hole, but Morassic stood tall, denied the chance. Kings with three shots here in the period. The goal by Moore on a turnover and a couple of really good chances in tight including that one there by Fogle. Ducks with numbers the other way as we get back into things and rolled toward the net by Cedarov deflected away by the Ontario rain captain Joe Hicks aired with Cody Cece tonight. CeCe’s had the opening goal for the Kings. Now Arma takes it and rolls it forward. Lefer drops it down the middle and then up the right wing in comes Greenree. He’s got a step, but the puck rolled off his stick. Kings after it again. Green Tree comes away with it. Green Tree tried to drop it back to Hicks in the high slot, but it was deflected by the Ducks all the way back toward the red line. Yeah, the intent was right there by Green Tree as you saw the defender coming in. Hicks was moving in, but Cedarov did a really good job at defending extending a stick out in that passing lane. Shots are unofficially 3625 Kings in the game, but we get a whistle. Six ducks on the ice. All kinds of all kinds of ducks. And even still at the stoppage of play that six player still on the ice. Yes it is. So 947 to play in the game. Kings going to go to the power play. When we come back they lead the Ducks 3-2. Samsung Silver on the ESPN Kings radio network. The LA Kings Festival VIP package is the only way to attend the event as a non-member. Through this package, you’ll skip the line, meet the Kings roster, and enjoy premium hospitality during the preseason game on October 4th. Check out lings.com/festival for more. And the Kings on the power play for what the sixth time in this game and the Ducks clear it down the ice. So Kings will come back the other way. So a too many men penalty this time around. Kings lose it on the zone entry. Try to get it back, but the Ducks play it back to the neutral zone. Now the Kings first five power plays unofficially 15 shots on goal with the man advantage. So they’ve had their looks and you remember the first one they had no shots on goal. So 15 shots in the last four. They turn it over again as they skate into the zone. And now the Ducks coming back the other direction. Right wing cross ice pass to Mityov. Left circle shoots. Saved by Portillo. He was positioned well at the left post and maybe one late whack from Mityukov. That drew the attention of one of the Kings players out there. But Portillo was with the shot the whole way. Yeah, Mityov he’s been aggressive. He scored a goal as he jumped in earlier in the game. And here he comes up on the rush. Anaheim trying to create a threeon two. The Kings forwards came back and filled the lanes, but Mukov came down that left side. Not a great angle, so Portillo was able to get himself up against that short side post and deny his chance. Minute 15 to go on the Kings power play. Not much to show for it so far. And now they’ll start out of their own zone. Rightwing Taylor Ward tried to center it. His pass was blocked. taken away by the Ducks, but the Kings prevent the clearance at least for the moment. Right wing side Ward Thomas holds it in. Burrows with a shot that got blocked right back to him. They keep it in toward the middle. Thomas shoots. Blocked by Warren and knocked away. Kings hold it in. Left point, Burrows across for Greenree. He shanked a one-time and then picked up by the Ducks and they can’t clear. Gloved down by the leaping Kyle Burroughs. And now Burroughs center point to Greenree right wing. Spins it in deep. Arma wanted to center but couldn’t. Had it poked away, gets it back and out top. Burrow shoots. Punched out by the goalender. Morazzic. Burroughs on the power play. Swings it in deep off the glass. Kings collect with Ara. Back for Ward. Fires it up top. Burrows to Greenry. Shoots. Blocked again by the Ducks. This time by Tyson Hines. And now in front. Thomas drops it back. Burrows shoots. Glove save. Morazzic with 14 seconds to go on the LA power play. Well, Kyle Burrow’s got himself some power play time here in this game and keeping it simple up top. He’s top of the umbrella right up the middle of the ice and gets a couple of shots through that were turned aside by Morazzic. So, nice job by him out there and little bit of a reward for one of the guys who’s in the trenches all the time for his teammates sticking up for those guys whenever he gets a chance. Doesn’t get into a lot of games, but he’s a great team player. And now a new unit will come out. Hickson CC up top. Only 14 seconds left. So, the Kings will throw a full defensive pairing out there. Helenius for the faceoff against Tim Washi. And Helenius will be asked to leave the faceoff circle. In comes Franchesco Penelli. Panelli, another lefty center, wins the draw to the blue line. Hicks shoots, tipped, saved. Morazzic. Loose puck collected by Helenius. Far wall to the blue line. Waning seconds of the Kings power play toward the middle. Cece gives it back to his left. Helenius winds, fires. It’s tipped wide. Kings collect again. Ducks are back to full strength and the goalender kicked the net off. Are they calling a penalty? I think he’s getting a warning. Yeah, getting a warning for sure. Yeah, definitely getting a warning. Morassic trying to act like a little bit surprised with that one. Referee’s not tolerating his comments, whatever he’s saying. 743 to play in regulation. Kings lead the Ducks 3-2. Well, four more shots on a man advantage this time. So, in my count, have got them up to 19 shots on the man advantage. So, shooting mentality has not been uh case there. Maybe a couple of rebounds they didn’t get. Morassic did a good job at tracking the one from up high that was redirected, but he stood square and got in front of it. Ducks win the draw and flip the puck back into the neutral zone. They’re now six for six on the kill in this game. And now the Kings the other way. Hicks gains the red line and fires it deep around the wall to the near side. Lee’s after it, but Zelwagger gets there first. Tried to send it up the wall. Hit a teammate, but that’ll allow Moore to settle it down himself. And now left wing. The Ducks through the neutral zone with Sam Kangelo. Roll it deep. Kings get there first in their own end. Approaching the final seven minutes of the game. Hicks battling left corner. Joe Hicks in his preseason debut for the Kings this year. Senica there for the Ducks. Helenius for LA as well. And finally Senakica comes away with it. Swings it up to the near point. Zelwagger back to the left. It’s knocked away by the Kings out of the zone. Tired skaters out for LA. So Penelli will gain the red line and roll it deep while LA changes all five. Yeah, good touch there by Penelli. soft hands just easing it into Anaheim zone. Not risking icing it. The Ducks shoot it deep to the far corner. Check there thrown along the glass beneath the hash marks. Kings in their own end. Six and a half to play. Try to take it up the wall. Moore swatting at it. Couldn’t get it out yet. Ducks hold it in. Deno with a poke check and up to the blue line. Anaheim holds it in. Then Phillips shoots. It’s blocked. Kings pick it up. Still can’t clear. Held in by Luno. Turns and feeds it. Right circle and turning and a shot save. Rebound. They score. Hammered in. The rebound at the left post by Tyson Hines. Another defenseman with a goal for the Ducks. And this game is tied 3-3. Yeah, they got the puck up high. Cedarov let the initial shot go. There was some traffic in front of the net. A couple of Duck players looked like it went off. The goalender came across and that’s where we see Hines jumping in, pouncing on that loose puck. very similar to Mitukov did earlier in the game. We’re not at three with 610 left here in the third period. So Hines, the defenseman who played all of last season with the goals in the American Hockey League, scores to tie the game 3-3 with just over six minutes left. And the Kings will try to step in right wing. Kings are already up to 40 shots in this game. Only three goals to show for it and have not cashed in on the power play. Kings take over at their own line. Clark feeds toward the blue line. Deno tried to sidestep one man but lost the puck as he got past the defenseman. And now Ian Moore down the middle. And here come the Ducks the other direction. Looped toward the King’s net. Shuffled away by Portillo. And now wrapped back around the wall to the right wing side. More after it. Got a tip on it up to the blue line. Long shot tipped blocked in front by the Kings. Kings player went down on top of it. That was Moare. And now the Kings will backhand it way up in the air down the ice as both teams look to change personnel. So the goal for Tyson Hines assisted by Cedarov. He gets his second assist of the game. And Tristan Luno gets one as well. Puck out of play. We’ll take a break. 514 left in the third. The Kings and the Ducks are tied at three here in Bakersfield. This is Samsung Silver and the ESPN Kings Radio Network. has tied it on a goal from Tyson Hines. And this game is tied 33 with 514 left in the third period. We’ll have a center ice face off to get play back underway. Eric Portillo manning the Kings net to our left and Peter Morazzic and the Ducks net to our right. 514 left and the Ducks win the draw. Back to their own end and Zelwagger back to get it. Turns it over to Yoel Arma for the Kings. Arma to the left circle. Shoot save. Rebound is chipped over the goal. Lefer had a look to it. The Ducks still backed into their own zone. Arma pressuring in the corner on Noah Warren. And now Leferier battling as well. It’s rolled free behind the Ducks net. Anaheim with it. Rolled forward and now Cedarov. He’s got two assists tonight. He flips it up the left wing and deep to the King zone. Cut off by Hicks. He and Burroughs are out there together. And now lifted up the wall. Kings flip it back into the neutral zone. Knocked down by Anaheim but toward Lefari. Kings try to guide it in but could not maintain possession. And now it’s back out to center. Barose fake to dump in. In comes Lefar. Shoots. Tipped toward the goal and over the net by Wright. And now all the way back through the neutral zone. Yeah, tough tip for right. He got in there, had to play it on his backand, but a nice pass into an area, an area pass. And it just puts it up over the top of the cage. Back into the King zone and we get a whistle. 409 left to play and face off going to come all the way back to the duck zone. Yeah, Barasic, who’s been the busier of the two goalenders so far in the hockey game, got his mask off, talking to the referee, and probably still going back to dislodging the net in that last conversation they had a couple of whistles ago. So, Kings will get themselves set here. Movari Cece lined up in behind Helenius for a face off in the offensive end. Scrum for it in the faceoff circle. Ducks come away with it. Luno lifted back through the neutral zone. Movare first to get to it. Pressured there. The Ducks are on top of it and a shot that’s fired wide by the trailing forward. And now the Ducks right wing held in instead of the circle. Try to center it. Deflected away. And now Hines, he’s got the Ducks tied in this game. 3-3 with that third period goal just moments ago. And now Moari going to take a penalty. Ducks are going to go to the power play for the third time in the game with 339 remaining in regulation. Yeah, they really can’t question that one. It’s going to be Moari making his second trip to the penalty box and he’ll go over there shaking his head a little bit but there big penalty kill coming up for the Kings here. Time winding down just 339 left in the game. So Anaheim one for two on the power play so far and they’ve got an opportunity here to take the lead for the first time today. Left circle faceoff and the Ducks win it to the blue line Zelwagger but play is halted and will do it again. Yeah, Deno out for the faceoff for the Kings and he’s been really good in that regard. We don’t have the official count on how many he’s taken in the game, but in the first period he had taken quite a few the midway part and he’s been out for every power play. So, a lot of draws for Deno. Zelwagger collected at the blue line could not hold it in and the Kings intercept and clear. So, Moari sits two minutes for tripping and now back underway. Kings intercept up the right wing. Here comes Deno short-handed. Deno dropped it back. Moore shoots wide left. A really good setup between Deno and Trevor Moore, but more missed the net. Yeah, nice setup there by Deno. He took the puck towards the defenders and then turned his back on them that way. He had a good look as to the where the pressure was coming on the backside. He gave it to Moore at the perfect time. A quick release. His shot just off the mark. Here come the Ducks again. Looped into the right corner. Cut off by Clark and then jarred free by the Kings. Back into the neutral zone. It’s skated out by Arma. He projects to be an important penalty killer for the Kings this season. He’s got it left wing. Steps to the middle. Will opt to weave his way through a couple of duck sticks and all the way back to the Kings End to kill some time. Then gets a return feed and deflects it into the Anaheim zone. Now he will go off for a change. Down to 50 seconds to go on the Anaheim power play with Mo Ferrari in the penalty box. Puck around the wall in the King zone, base of the left circle, touched at by Fogle, back to a teammate and then cleared down the ice by LA. Down to the final 30 seconds of the Moare penalty. Anaheim scored on their first opportunity, came up empty on the second, and so far not much on this third chance. Final two minutes of the game and 20 seconds of the Ducks power play. Kings tie it up in the corner. Anaheim comes away with it. Dropped into the corner. Nobody there in white and orange. Cece tried to get it out but had it deflected. Kings trying to knock it free at the right circle. Hicks with a chance. Then Cece has it again. The Kings will smack it down the ice. Final seconds of the Anaheim power play. Moari ready to spring out of the penalty box. And here he comes. So the Kings are back to full strength. They kill off the minor and now 3-3 game with 90 seconds left in the third. The puck tied up along the wall in the left wing corner. Portillo peaks around the cage to his right. Kings try to send it up the wall and then lift the puck out of play. That’s going to be a penalty against Samuel Helenius. He lifted it right up and over the glass and knew it immediately. So, the Ducks will have another power play chance with a minute 16 remaining. And with that, Anaheim’s going to take a timeout right now with 116 left. So, they’re going to rest up their top players that they want to get back out, probably guys that were just out on the power play to try to take advantage of this. And I think what we’ll see, we’re going to see a lot of Deno in the faceoff circle, especially in the defensive zone to try to win those draws and get pucks out. Helenius is a guy that we’d see on the on the penalty kill. I’m sure Fogle, Trevor Moore, and Arma will be the forwards that’ll be most used by Jim Hiller here in this nine 76 seconds here in the third period. Shots are 109 Kings in the period. 4128 LA in the game. The Kings are 0 for six on the power play in this one. And again, I think at the end of the day, Daryl, you want to get guys opportunities on the power play. You want to see them start creating some chemistry with each other, give guys new chances. But when it when you look at this game for what it is of just three periods of hockey, 0 for six on the power play with a ton of shots and not much else to show for it won’t necessarily win you a hockey game. No, it won’t. No doubt about it. I know they’ve had some opportunities they they you know, you look at Ward. Ward had a couple of chances he put just off the mark and he’s a guy that you want to see get those chances. So aside from already 19 unofficial shots on goal and a man advantage, the Kings have had a number of looks. Good play by Fogle to clear the puck off the draw. One minute to play in the game, 33 Ducks on the power play now that will last until the end of regulation if they don’t score first. Puck around the wall right wing and the blue line held in by Zelwagger. Steps toward the right wing and around deep beneath the circle. Takes it to the front centering pass. They score. Phillips at the back post. Not sure if Zelwagger meant to get it to him, but it took kind of a knock. And then Phillips slots it in. Another power play goal for Anaheim. And with 44 seconds remaining, they take their first lead of the game. Yeah, Zelwiger, a good skater, took the puck in behind the net. He had a little bit of room when he got that puck. Phillips timed it perfectly. He’s a right-handed shot coming in on that opposite side and he was just able to jam that puck into the short side beating Portillo. So now the Kings have the clock up against them. 44.8 seconds left. We’re at center ice here. Goender Portillo already made communication with the bench. So if Kings get possession, he’ll be heading for the extra attacker. Situation that the Kings have not been in in the preseason. And the Ducks win the faceoff. They will fire it deep to the King zone. And now Clark back to get it. He’ll scoop it up with 35 seconds left. Let’s see what the Kings got here as they look to pull Eric Portillo out of the Kings net. Sent up the left wing and then swatted at by the Ducks. The Kings hold it in. Loose puck toward the middle. Kings try to hold it in. It’s lifted out of the zone. Foot race toward the red line. The puck kind of died right there for the Ducks. And then Myatic slowly rolls it into the empty net. And with 16.2 seconds left, that should just about do it. 53 Anaheim as Nico Mayadavic pots one into the open cage. Yeah, the Kings were never able to get the puck set up in the offensive zone with the extra attacker on the ice. And Rand Clark did all he could in an outnumber situation. He took it to the outside. Mi instead of rushing the play, he wisely continued to keep going wider, stretching Clark out and then released the puck to the net, finding the back of the net, giving the Ducks a little breathing room. They’re up by two. Well, the Ducks have scored three times in this third period and the what you’d assumed to be the eventual game-winning goal for Phillips coming here in the final minute of the game on the power play. And the final five seconds will tick off the clock here in Bakersfield. And that’s going to do it. Final score here at Dignity Health Arena. It’s the Ducks five and the Kings three. Yeah, not the way the Kings wanted to finish the game. You know, after taking the lead in the opening seconds of the third period, they end up losing the game in the dying seconds of the third period. A lot of it had to do with the back-to-back penalties late in the period that allowed Anaheim to go on the attack. Five on five. I think the Kings were doing a good job at taking care of business. They weren’t giving up a lot of great a chances, but the extra time with the man advantage led to the favor of Anaheim. They win the special teams battle in this game and they come out with a win in the game. Three goals in the final six minutes for Anaheim. The game tying goal for Tyson Hines, the winner from Matthew Phillips, and an empty net goal for Nico Mayovic. And the Ducks win this one here in Bakersfield by a final score of 5 to3. We will take a break, wrap things up when we come back here in downtown Bakersfield on Samsung Silver and the ESPN LA Kings Radio Network. Well, Trevor Moore scored 14 seconds into the third period, but that was not enough for LA. Goals from Tyson Hines, Matthew Phillips, and Nico Miatavic all in the final seven minutes of the game. Complete the Ducks come back and then some. from the Kings fall here in game four of the preseason in Bakersfield to the Ducks by a final score of 5-3. Daryl, at the end of the day, uh there were not two points on the line for the Kings, but uh this is certainly one where not a full NHL lineup for either side obviously, but maybe something you want to try to get out of your system early on, of course, and uh you know, you’re not happy with it. I think the Kings have set a standard as to the way they want to play and this is not Kings hockey. You know, usually in the third period with the style of hockey, they play strong defense. They going to be able to lock these type of games down. But I think one thing that really played uh in Anaheim’s favor is the Kings taking those two penalties late and that allowed Anaheim to be able to put their foot on the gas and took the attack away from the Kings. Kings were now defending. They were on their heels. So, uh, clean up those little areas again. Couple of little miscues out there. But these is this is a time when you learn. Get educated right now. Next week you apply and that’s when you get points. goals from Moore, uh, Trevor, excuse me, Trevor Moore, Taylor Ward, and Cody Cece for the Kings. They outshot the Ducks 41-30 in the game. But Matthew Phillips of the gamewinner in the final minute, Nico Miatavic, empty net goal was enough for not two points, but a win for the Ducks here in the fourth game of the preeason. The ending could have been better… πŸ˜‚
Although, the attendance was not nearly as good as I expected. Still great to see the season kicking off!
