Rockies vs. Giants Game Highlights (9/27/25) | MLB Highlights
We’ve got Saturday afternoon baseball at Oracle Park. It is indeed the final week of the season. The matchup on the mound is a beautiful one. Freeland at Furlander. It’s the Rockies. It’s the Giants. Come on back to San Francisco with us. On the hill today for the Giants will be the veteran right-hander Justin Verlander. Verlander 6’5, 240 lbs. He’s 42 years of age. He’s in his 20th year at the big league level. This is what he has done this year. 146 innings in 28 starts, 130 strikeouts against 51 watts with a 388 RA. Ezekiel Tovar is leading off. Now the pitch and a curveball struck him out swinging. Beauty broke right off the outside corner. Sharp. Goodman’s the big dog in this lineup. 30 home runs and that ball is hit well to left field. Got a chance to fly and it’s gone. Hunter Goodman with his 31st of the year and the Rockies with an early lead against Verlander. The wind is blowing out to left. That helped, but that was a great swing as well by Hunter Goodman. Got behind the count, just hung in there. A breaking ball, curveball right over the middle plate that he hung a little bit and Hunter Goodman took advantage. Coming on as Ramos, he makes the catch the left fielder to end the top of the first. The Goodman homer gives Colorado an early one- nothing lead. Fourth time this year that Freeland has faced the Giants and it’s his 31st start of the year. He wants to go out there on a good positive note. Um and in this season as saying, “Okay, I got through all of my starts.” Because I think that’s huge. One two pitch swing and a miss. Got him with a hive fast ball. Good start for Kyle Freeland. One- nothing Rockies. Second inning. Brenton Doyle leads off for the Rockies. Rockies center fielder. And that ball is smoked to deep left field. That one’s got a chance to get out and it will in a hurry. Brenton Doyle’s 15th of the year. And it’s the same pitch, a breaking ball. This one was in the middle of the plate. Doyle did not miss it. That was loud. Got to feel great for Brent. Doyle has been struggling. Another solo shot for the Rockies. Two nothing Colorado. He’ll take that memory with him into the off season. Great first inning for Kyle Freeland. A one, two, three and two fly outs to center, then a strike out of Adamus and he threw only eight pitches back in that first inning. So Chapman takes the walk. Lead off walk. Here’s Wilmer Flores. Line drive into right field. Base hit. One hop to Fernandez. Over to second goes Chapman. And it brings up Casey Schmidt. The Giants are in business now. Two men on. Nobody out. Trailing two nothing. center field hit well done back out of here and just like that the Giants take the lead. Home run for Schmidt is 12. One thing that Casey Schmidt can do, I mean he can beat the inside pitch and he’s got such a good bent elbow approach that digs out pitches that barrels them that really would jam other right-handed hitters. Casey Schmidt hit that 422 ft. It left his bat at 105 mph. That ball was struck. An infield hit for Goodman. That would have been an incredible play by Matt Chapman. And he was right along the line and in shallow left field when he threw that ball and it was there in time, but his low throw DeS just could not handle it. De still learning how to play that position. Couldn’t pick up the short hop throw. Here’s Blaine Crim. You got it. The inning is over. Fourth strikeout for Verlander and a shutdown inning for him. Two down, nobody on. Giants ahead three to two. Casey Schmid who homered over the center field wall with two men on. Three-run homer back in the second inning. Two two swing and a miss. Freeland got him with a curveball. Nine straight retired by Kyle Freeland. Slider away and Ritter’s out on strikes for the second time to Verlander. So, two down and here’s the leadoff man, Tovar. Tovar lifts it to left field. It’s got a little carry to it. Got a lot of carry to it and oh my goodness, a secuitous route by Ramos. And Tovar is going to end up in third. He gets his fourth triple of the year. And for Ramos, who is rated as one of the worst left fielders defensively in the game, he struggled with the wind and the sun on that one. And he throws a slider off the outside. Ball four. And of course, he he really did not want to let Goodman beat him. Now the question is when you go down that path, you got to make sure that the next guy does not beat you. Got him. Pitched exactly what he wanted to do. And that’ll end the inning. And that strategy pitching around Goodman indeed has paid off. Sixth inning is upon us with the Rockies down 3-2 here. And Justin Verlander back to work having thrown 78 pitches this point the game. 53 of those for strikes. Strikeout number seven again. Tilt. Perfect location. Fernandez one for two. Swing and a line drive to the second baseman Casey Schmidt. Three up, three down. And we’ll see if that’s going to be the end of the day for Verlander. He’s right around 90 pitches. No one feels their position better than Kyle Freeland among pitchers in baseball. Great athletic maneuver there by Kyle Freeland to come off the mound. He grabbed that ball almost on the foul line up the third base side and makes the play. Ramos heads to second. Number two down. Here comes Matt Chapman and a ground ball hit weakly toward third. Carol has that. flips it over to first base just in time to get the out. Another terrific inning for Kyle Freeling. Two gone and that’ll bring up Divers. Divers is 0 for three. Divers into center field and D gets by the center field and goal. Here comes Ker. Divers has got a double and the Giants add on. That’s the risk you take. I mean, he sells out on a dive, but there’s risk and once it got by Doyle was an easy score for Kisner. I I get the point of, you know, trying to keep that ball in front, but with a guy like Brenton, aggressiveness with two outs, you don’t ever want to take that away. Brian Walker comes in 68th appearance on the year, 5-7, 39 RA with 60 strikeouts in 61 innings. Facing Jordan Beck. This ball’s well hit left center field. It’s got legs. It’s going to fly. Rockies within a run. Number 16 for Beck. That snapped an 0 for 17 for Jordan with 10 strikeouts. You can hear it off the bat, too. 432 ft. And just like that, your cushion, your two-run cushion has been cut in half. So, here is Doyle. He’s got power. He hit a home run earlier. This is to right. Gilbert on the move. Not going to be able to get there. It’s a fair ball. Kicks around for a moment. Doyle will stop at second. Tying run in scoring position. Nobody out. And we’ve been talking about this for the last two months. You leave these Rockies hanging around. They’re going to play 27 outs and give themselves a chance. Doyle does move to third. Tying run 90 ft closer. So, everybody’s squaring the ball up so far. against Walker. And here comes Kyle Carris. Ball four, first and third. Burnabel coming up. And this is Bo, Bob Melvin going out. And to have the tying run at third, the lead run at first. And trying to nail this one down is Spencer Bibbons. Got him. And he gets the strike out. Wow, that’s a sinker at 96. He reaches back and throws two seams right through him. And that’ll be left to Ryan Ritter. Oh, and the bases are loaded. There’s that hard two seamer that on the first pitch almost hit him even though he swung. Well, that really hurts. You had two strikes on a guy who had not made contact yet who was looking over matched and now he hits him with a two strike count and not only is the tying run over at third base, but the go-ahead run is now in scoring position as well. And the leadoff man who’s one of the Rocky’s best players and best hitters, Trovar coming up. Chapman. Chapman. He got it. And that’s the ball game. Yeah. Give me that pop up or ground ball to a goal glover any time to end the game. Final score, it’s the Giants four and the Rockies

Congratulations to the Giants for another close victory. Hopefully you can win the rest of your games. Love you guys.
What a great series win on Fan Appreciation Weekend!! Let’s hope we win tomorrow’s game 9/28 for the last game of the 2025 season & hope we can AT LEAST get a tied record if Logan Webb has it!! Can’t believe Walker almost blew it in the 9th but good thing we won! Get your last win tomorrow boys!
Let go giants🔥🔥
LIVE, LOVE GIANTS
Giants should resign Verlander for 1-3 years
Ramos is horrible at LF, worse Ive seen in years!!
YAY!!
Fire MELVIN!!!!
Let's go giants
I wish they could have shown this much fight in August and July
Los gigantes literalmente se quedaron a nada de ir a play off… esa derrota del martes paso muy caro..
Another great showing by Walker in the 9th. Enough is enough with this guy already.
Ramos…..how long have you been playing baseball?
Horrible
Por fin, lo probaré y diré mi resultado
Humm baby! Verlander!
I hope I never ever see Walker pitch for the Giants again
Finish out the season with a couple of wins. Go Giants!
That bullpen. Ugh.
Ryan Walker should lose his spot in the pen next year.
Damn, they did my boy Ramos dirty by calling him one of the worst fielding left fielders in the league.
Why does he continue to use Walker as a closer???
walker hasn't had it lately idk if he needs to just be a reliever or go to the minors for practice or what
Bummer I couldn’t get out to watch a game in the Bay. Watched them face off against DBacks here in AZ. Both my teams was a good series. Hopefully make it out next season and they go to the playoffs. Go giants forever 🧡
Melvin FINALLY yanked Walker before he blew his EIGHTH save!! Freaking FINALLY!
Poor Justin V. How many victories did Walker ROB him of before today? 3? 4?
What a disgrace!
Walker cost the Giants a playoff spot this year. 7 blown saves. And Melvin waits until the 161st game to yank him in the 9th when he again was getting smacked around.
I have been a Giants fan since 1964. This year has been very frustrating.
I like Melvin, BUT he takes TOO LONG to make the obvious moves. Walker should have been yanked out of the closer role MUCH SOONER when he kept messing up earlier in the year. Then he goes into a slump AGAIN, but Melvin AGAIN waited too long. TODAY he FINALLY does the PAINFULLY OBVIOUS.
Bochy’s contract with the Rangers runs out TOMORROW. If he still wants to manage, and if Buster is as good an executive as he was as a player, then he should get Bruce back for next year.
If that's Verlander's last game not a bad one.
We have a chance to end the season at .500. Hopefully Adames can get #30 tomorrow. Nxt year is promising. We have a great core.
되돌아보면, 가을 야구를 미리 포기하고, 마무리를 팔았던것이 큰 실수였다. 자이언츠는 그것이 큰 실수였다.
Not a fan of Walker.
Brutal season
I am SO sick of Ramos's shitty fielding.
Bullpen is🗑️
Verlander gets his 4th win of the season out of 29 starts. His worst season win total in his career. But… would love to have him back next season.
Good to know it's Verlander's likely VERY last game in the MLB.
Ese piche es la sal del equipo el serrador que bueno que lo sacaron
Why did Melvin put Walker back out there again after he pitched last night. Walker has blown at last 3 Verlander's games.
Walker gives me Moody vibes 👎🏽🤦🏽♂️
Walker is not it.
Good Lord, Ryan Walker is not a closer.
We let Verlander down this year. His 4 wins could have easily been 10 without all the blown saves. Still, he showed up like a true pro and never blamed anyone, which is why he is the best pitcher of the last 20 years. I hope we resign him, but I understand if he chooses not to return. Thank you Verlander.
2 days in a row. Walker cannot pitch tomorrow and screw things up again, right? Please?
Walker better not be a Giant next year – take away all the blown saves and Giants could easily have been in the post season
Finish strong, mop the floor with Colorado, get back to .500, look forward to 2026.
Sign Rutschmann? Maybe even Kwan? Ramos to DH?
WALKER OUT
Walker is atrocious and Bivens sucks as well. We need pitching in the worst way
The Giants bullpen have a bunch of Jake Moody
