🔴LIVE🔴Colorado Rockies VS San Francisco Giants /September 28 / MLB The show 25

Oracle Park. An NL West matchup on the show. It’s the Colorado Rockies taking on the San Francisco Giants. John Shambi and Chris Singleton with you. Singy, this might be my favorite ballpark in the game. Just looking out over the bay, seeing the boats in the water. Beautiful ballpark, a great atmosphere. Don’t get it twisted. San Francisco Giants fans bring it. First pitch coming your way next. All right, first pitch coming up. Today’s starting pitcher, JT Brewbaker. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure. He’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason, he gets looser. the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. Giants, the one and the slider just misses. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So, it’s a good take by him. And that drops in for a strike. Nasty two slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. Out to short. Adamus tosses to first. One up, one down. Time to check out the Rockies lineup. Not the highest team batting average for this squad. They’re down towards the bottom of the league in total hits. And Singi because of that, they don’t score a ton. Yeah. and Boo, I’m looking for a little better performance out of them today. I mean, if they’re going to be dangerous, if they’re going to be able to create scoring opportunities, they’re going to have to start making some individual adjustments. A lot of players in this lineup probably aren’t happy with how they’ve hit the ball so far. So, today’s a chance to get something going. Hunter Goodman stands in now and watches strike one. And it’s even up. one whacked out to center field. That’s well struck. That’s back there and gone. His 31st home run of the season. And just like that, they’re out front. It’s one- nothing. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Blaine Crim digging in for the Rockies. And that’s in the dirt. the 10 on the ground to third. Schmidt slings to first. That’s an out. Batting fourth, left fielder Jordan Beck. Two down, base is empty. Next for Colorado, Jordan Beck outside low. One and0. And another ball. Two out. Space is empty. Colorado out in front with the swing. And that is strike one. And foul ball. Hit hard. Base hit now. And that extends the inning. He was all over that one. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. And now Ezekiel Tovar and ball one. Swang in a line drive. Ripped right center field. plays it out of bounds and it eats him off. Two consecutive base hits for this team. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. And now Brenton Doyle. That one ripped, but foul. Ripped to short. They take the force out. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. Rockies score first with this solo homer. It’s now one- nothing. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in San Francisco getting the nod in this one, Bradley Bllelock. Well, you know, this guy wants to be better than that. I mean, the ERA is bloated. He understands that he’s got to put his team in a better position to win ball games. And at this point, you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that W. And if you do that, you’ll look up and most likely that erra will have dropped over time. Bottom of the first, here’s Elliot Ramos singing. When the year’s over, he’ll have a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. Strike one. The wind of the pitch and that one fouled off. and a swing and a miss. One away. Oh, really expanded the zone right there with that fast ball off the outside corner of the plate. Got him to chase it. That’s a tough one to lay off of because it starts close to you and just continues to run away from you in that batter’s box. So, it’s a really nice pitch with two strikes. One out. Base is empty. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Swing and a ball popped in the air. Fair ball. Willie Adam stands in. Short stop. Willie Adam and that is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. at first one away. There’s the strike. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. Next offering upstairs. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone because that’s where you can get hurt. got him swinging for the strike out. Slider got him for strike three. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone. And then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early. And a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. Two outs. Sliced hard but fouled. Let’s go. That one pushed foul. One, two now. Battling here as he fouls it away. Giants hit in the air left field. Beck makes the catch and that is the third out of the inning. One left for San Francisco and it remains one- nothing. Back here at Oracle Park. New inning getting started now. Here is Kyle Keros. Brewbaker back to work. Keros 22 years old and he was a fifthround pick in 2023. Right through there for a strike. Joe McDonald, our umpire behind the dish. Yeah, Boo. Joey Mack. sometimes a little tough to figure out. We may see some hitters and pitchers asking him where a pitch was here or there, but most of the time he keeps it reasonable. Line to second. Snagged on the bounce. It’s there and that’s a great play. Batting eight, catcher number 37. Now the Rockies catcher Braxton Fulford. It’s interesting. He plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. Now one and one. What about him playing another position on defense? One that would require a little more range. Absolutely. And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game, it surprise a lot of people. You might even be able to put him in center field. Gets a piece and stays alive. Next pitch misses way outside. And that’s downstairs and outside. Right side. Hard hit. He’ll do it himself. He made the pitcher earn that out after a long bat. Yel Fernandez. Here’s Colorado’s DH. Hard ground ball. Base knock. So, the two out knock extends the inning and sends them back to the top of the order. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Next, a hit for the Rockies. Mickey Moniac Brewaker checks over to first and he’s back. And that’s a base hit. And out to a board. Now batting second base. Hunter Goodman. The next to hit. He’s already homerred here in this one. Giants. That pitch in for a strike. 4 and one. Just missed. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck back there into the bleachers and gone. Home run. Another homer. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game. It’s 4 nothing. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. A breaking ball on the inside part of the plate requires a hitter to stay really square with his mechanics. If you fly open with the front shoulder, there’s no way you keep that ball fair. An outstanding job mechanically. He deserves that home run. Base is empty with two away. So in now for Colorado, Blaine Crim and that’s downstairs. And that is ball one. Two down. Doon and he swings and lifts one to deep center field. Ranging back towards the wall and it hits the fence safely into second. He’s got a double. Four hits in a row and they’re really swinging it here. He hit the ball so well right there and I really thought it was going to carry out of here, but that’s definitely the big part of the yard and you just really have to get a hold of one to drive it out in that part of the ballpark. But you can’t be mad about driving one off the wall. Jordan Beck digging in for the Rockies. One for one with a single so far. Giants. There’s a strike. Man on second, two down. Swaging a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Owen Chu now. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. But the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. A threerun homer. It’s now a four nothing ball game. And we’re back now. The third baseman, Casey Schmidt. He’s got pop, which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field, but he can jump you if you make a mistake. And the first pitch misses for ball one. And another ball. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. That one misses and it’s three and0. And there’s the automatic. Back-to-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Highfly ball on that one. Curling foul down the right side. That one misses. So a leadoff walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Man at first, nobody out. Jung Hu Lee will hit next just off the outside edge. And that’s ball one. Let’s keep it going. You’re blowing it up. Yeah. Squirts away a little bit. And that one is downstairs. And it’s two and two. Schmidt on at first. Nobody out. And that one moves his feet. Swing and a ground ball. Base hit right field. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Christian. So digging in Christian CS. Come on, Christian. Liner snagged it first. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact. And that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. And up next for the Giants, Drew Gilbert. No. in the dirt. Check swing called. Strike. And that’s strike one. The one-1 is fouled off. Come on, Giants. And it falls coming home. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single. It’s 4-1. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. You can’t do much better than that on a pitch that far outside of the strike zone. Got him to chase on the two strike count, but he wasn’t fooled. He hit that ball really well. Two on, one out. Kizner digs in now. There’s a strike. Brothers at the corners. One away. Bottom half of inning number two. breaking ball in there for a strike. Just a really nice slider down and in there. He wants to get the hitter thinking fast ball. Speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Brings it in. Out number two. Good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. Ramos. So, the lineup flips over and now it’s going to be Elliot Ramos. Struck out swinging, leading off the bottom of the first. That just misses. Ball one. Next offering is fouled back. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And strike two. One ball, two strikes. That one is absolutely belted. One run is in. It bangs off the wall. Brown’s third headed for the plate. He’ll score. Two runs are in. It’s 43. Gets the job done as he brings home repair a pair. Off the bat, it was headed for the gap all the way. And as a hitter, you love seeing those as you take your first couple of steps out of the box. You know you got some real estate to run on. It’s such a good feeling. Nice liner into the gap right there. So, runner at second, two down. And it’s Raphael Des in the box. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Still in the second already at 44 pitches. So some concern there. This one high in the air to left center. Doyle on the move. And that is that. But three score in the inning. Two of them on this two-run double. It’s now a 43 ball game. And welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the start of the inning. And now the shorts stop Ezekiel Tovar. Fair ball. Now batting center. Tough game for him so far. Boo. Another hit and they’ve just been knocking him around through the first two plus. He’s got to get things back on track. Maybe junk a pitch that isn’t working or he might not last much longer. So up next, Brenton Doyle. He’s 0 for one. First offering and it just misses. All these Rockies doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game and the numbers back that up. And here’s a stat for you, Boo. They’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at. It’s pretty special stuff. Not so good if you’re out there on the mound. And that one finds its way through. Lead runner holds up. They’re at first and second with nobody out. Couple of singles back to back. Everyone’s trying to elevate the ball in today’s game, but if you can hit a ball that hard on the ground, it’s going to find some holes. First and second, no outs. Next for Colorado, Kyle Keros. He’s 0 for one. And there’s a foul ball. Yo, one ball. One there. He was looking to come up with the shutdown inning and off to a shaky start. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Trevor McDonald up and loosening in the pen. Bivons, a hardthrowing right-hander up as well. No outs. Runners at first and second. That’s ripped to right down the line. Hops over the wall and that’s an automatic double as a run scores. Well, everyone is thinking Ed, would the runner have scored from first if the ball stayed in the park? We’ll never know. But they do get a run across with a chance to do more damage in the inning. Here comes the manager out of the Giants dugout and he will make a move to the pad. JT Brewbaker out of the game and the opener strategy clearly didn’t work out this time. New arm coming on. We’ll be back after a short break. Trevor McDonald takes over on the mound. huge opportunity to add on to the lead for this offense right now, but we’ll see what he has to say about that. He’s going to have to make some great pitches to work out of this jam, though. Now, the catcher up to hit Braxton Fulford. Golden opportunity right here. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Rocky one. One can’t glove it cleanly. still finds a way to get off a throw and it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. Well, you’re definitely looking to do more with that opportunity at the plate. Two runners in scoring position, but at least he puts the ball in play. They bring across one run. Still one out there to pick up. swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field. Lee makes the catch. Runner tagging from third. He’s in on the sack fly and they lead by four. Sometimes all you got to do is your job and don’t over complicate things. Keep it simple. Runner at third, less than two outs. Put the ball in play and a nice job with the sack fly. Now a chance for Mickey Moniac, one for two. First pitch misses. This hitter loves attacking the first pitch, so not giving him something to hit is a good move. Two gone, base is empty, but three runs across. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. That one finds the zone and the count one and one. And there’s a ball and a two-1 hammered but foul and a foul ball. He stays alive. out towards right center field. Lee on his way over, makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. So they get three runs, three hits, no errors, and nobody left on. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Rockies seven and the Giants three. Back here in San Francisco, set for the bottom of the third. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Will Thomas and that is in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Well, he’s back out here for the third. And after the first couple of innings, pretty rough. I think the skipper is looking for him to give him a little bit of length. See if he can save the bullpen some. Right side. gets it to first. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. Now batting first base. Now Bryce Eldridge fly to left his first time. San Francisco. And that’s off the inside edge. And it’s one and0. pulls that one foul. Next offering in there for a strike. Now he’s in a one-two hole. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. Casey Schmidt. Here’s the third baseman, Casey Schmidt. He walked and came around to score his first time up. Casey. And a foul ball. Eldridge leads off first with one away. Swing and a foul pushed off to the right and that will get out of play. and the O2. And that’s outside. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Highfly ball lifted in the air right field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two away. Now batting center fielder Jung Hulu Lee. Here’s Jung Hu Lee. Now he was asked to rank his all-time favorite players last year. Oh yeah. Who made the list? Well, his dad, of course. That makes sense. He also said Ken Griffy Jr., Ichiro, Hasson Kim, and himself. I’d say that’s a pretty good list. And the one fly ball pretty well struck right field. Ranging back makes the catch on the edge of the track. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Three innings complete. It’s the Rockies seven and the Giants three. Back here at Oracle Park, John Shambi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Hunter Goodman. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. There it was. Oh, here it is. Hit it. He gets a take. Gets ahead in a count. Inside and the count is one and one. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. ripped on the ground to second. Handles, throws to first. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. Now batting the first base, Bla Crim. Blaine Crim getting ready to hit. Drove it off the wall last time. Just missed out on a home run. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four and a good eye there. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. And a curb misses outside. Hard hit right side. The throw to first. Two up, two down. Now batting left fielder Jordan Beck. And next will be the cleanup hitter Jordan Beck. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. Yeah, that’s fouled off. That’s off the mark. One ball, one strike. And a swing and a miss. One ball, two strikes hit weekly on the ground. Adamus, come on. It’s a one, two, three inning for the Rockies. Nothing doing it for the Rockies, but they lead it by four. It’s 73. Bottom of the fourth. Now at the plate, Christian CS Christians. And that is in there for a strike. I believe that’s the split. And that is cut on and missed. And it’s 0 and two. Cut on and miss. struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. That’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean, that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. If he keeps it down, it’s just so tough to put wood on. Gilbert in the box now. No balls in a strike. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on playing with. You’re better off taking that pitch. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Yeah, that’s right. Now, batting. Here’s Andrew Ker. First time up was a pop out. And that’s in for a strike. Gilbert the base runner at first with one out. Swinging a foul out of play. Now the Rockies have some action in the pen. Number 51 getting loose out there. Gordon also getting ready. The one two and down on strikes he goes. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Oh, that curve ball had some pretty good break to it. As you can see, the hitter just locked up a little bit. thought it was a great pitch to hit, but sometimes you’re looking for something else and you can’t pull the trigger. And first off is fouled off. Two outs. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. He picks up his fifth strikeout on the hill. So the Giants leave one. Deficit remains at four. It’s 73. Ready now for the fifth inning. Now it’s the shorts stop. Ezekiel Tovar. McDonald back to work. That’s rifted. Base hit. So a runner aboard to start the inning. up next for Colorado. So digging in, Brenton Doyle and first offering is fouled off. All these Rockies doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. Double digit hits and they’ve done a great job of avoiding the strikeout. Only one of them so far, which tells you a lot. Here we go. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. Let’s go. Double play ball to second to first. One away here in the fifth. Now batting number 12. Now the third baseman Kyle Keros. Giants. And that’s outside. doubled up on the slider away. Two seamer here. Just watch and see. One out and a runner at second. Swing and a ball lifted left field. Ramos sizing this one up and puts the squeeze on that one. And there are two down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. So, two down now and here is Braxton Fulford. Giants outside runner at second. Two down and we’re in the top of the fifth. Giants come. And now two and nothing now. And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. The 2-1. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still fires to first and that is the inning. So, one left for Colorado, but they still lead it 7-3. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Raphael de up to hit. hitter Raphael DeS. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. And the leadoff man aboard. Now batting the short stop. And now Will Thomas both for two in this one. Fast ball on the inside corner for a strike. Adamus goes 6’1, 220 lbs. He joined the team as a free agent. No, keeping alive. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. That one to first. Crim over to second. Back to first. Double play. For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play. And then from there, completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. Two out, space is empty. And digging in for San Francisco, Bryce Eldridge. And there’s the strike. That one missed. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. High chopper to third. And that is the inning. Giants go down quietly. They’re down four. Seven to three. And welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the top of the sixth. Here’s Colorado’s DH number 35. That’s down and in. Action in the pen down there. Tristan Beck up and throwing. Tang getting cranked up as well. That’s a strike. And the count one at one. And there’s a ball. line drive caught. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove, but you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. So, the Rockies lineup turns over. Next, a hit for the Rockies. Mickey Monia, one for three. And first offering is fouled off. There’s the strike. Base is empty. One away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And that one misses up and in. And count one and two. cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out. Blew the express right by his bat for strike three. I’m not sure that was the exact location the pitcher wanted, but it worked. He got the swing and miss and I’m sure a bit of sigh of relief after seeing that one go through the zone. Stepping in the long ball threat. Hunter Goodman and the way he’s going in this one. We’ve been waiting for his spot to come around again. All right, listen everyone. Stop what you’re doing right now. This guy’s got two home runs already. Now he’s going for number three. Outside low and that’s ball one. 10 swing and a miss as he was late that time. Man, he was really tardy on that fast ball. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball. Add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. Falling behind two and one. Comes up empty. at strike two. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Had a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Nothing doing here this half. We go to the bottom half of inning number six. And the 567 slots do up. It’s the Rockies seven and the Giants three. Number 51 gets handed the rock out of the pen and he’s got a nice lead to work with. So he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. at the plate. Casey Schmidt base and that one fouled off right through there for a strike. Stirring in the Colorado bullpen. Jimmy Herget getting ready to come on for Bud Black. Molina warming up as well. Comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. Fulford down to first with it in time to get him. One away on the strikeout. That’s that classic wipeout slider below the zone right there. Just nasty. Looks like a fast ball thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it’s just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly. And now the center fielder Jung Hulu Lee and first offering is fouled off. Hit in the air right field. Moniac on the move to the gap. Squeezes it and a couple of quick outs. Now betting second base. Two down, base is empty. Christian CS the next Giant to hit. Come on. Giants. Just missed. Just off the inside edge. Ground ball right side. It squirts through. Zoe gets on base and keeps it going. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Runner at first with two away. Drew Gilbert the next Giant to hit. Pitch misses inside. One and0. CS the runner at first with two gone. Slashes this one and it could be trouble. And that’s going to get into the corner. Coming home. He will score. Well done. Narrows the deficit with the RBI there. That was a thing of beauty. He may have been a little behind the pitch, but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in his swing, he was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left. Andrew Kizner, the next Giant to hit. and he swings and misses at the initial offering. Two outs and a runner, a third here in the bottom of the six. Fought off foul. Two outs. Good eye in that spot. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Got him swinging. One run, a pair of hits, no errors, and one left off. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Rockies seven and the Giants four. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Tristan Beck. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Blaine Crim now at the plate. First baseman, Blaine Crim. And ball one. No strike. Come on, Giants. And now it’s even up. No need to offer it that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. headed towards the corner and it stays fair. Now he’ll turn for second and he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Oh, that’s how you respond. Leadoff man comes up, gets into scoring position. Now there are several ways that they can get this run across. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Jordan Beck will hit next. Ball one there. Francisco. And another ball. No strike to the left side, but it is well foul and a foul ball. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here in the top half of inning number seven. Right through there. Got him. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strikeout. And there’s one away. Clearly looking out over the plate on that outer third. And that pitch finished right down the middle. Just a little bit in and he couldn’t pull the trigger. Tovar stands in here. Leaves that one off the inside. Giants runner at second here. One gone in the air right field. Gilbert on the move. And there are two outs. Up next for Colorado, center fielder Brenton Doyle. Brenton Doyle digging in for the Rockies. It’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. First pitch and he just misses. That’s a little bit low. last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Man at second. Right through there for a strike. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball three. not really attacking on the mound in this at bat. All breaking balls. So that makes me think they’re not really wanting to challenge him here. Fouls one away and now three and two. Man on second. Two down and a popup right side. Foul territory. Eldridge snags it and that’ll do it. The Rockies strand one. They hold a 74 lead. Now pitching. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Zack Agnos on for the 30th time this year. Now it’s the Giants leadoff hitter Elliot Ramos. The Giants in striking distance but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. And that’s downed away. Fast ball for a strike. Big at bat right here. He did the team thing. Took until he got a strike. Now he’s got to go to work. Shorten up that swing a little bit. Do whatever it takes to get on base. San Francisco. Swinging a highfly ball out there towards left field. Beck hauls it in and there’s one away. Now batting hitter de now de the babyfaced assassin and that is out of play. Here we go, Giants. Foul ball there. One down, base is empty. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. San Francisco. And Devers hits that one. Doyle puts it away for the out and there’s two down. Now batting the short stop. So up next, Willie Adamus 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. Now this is in the air down the line and that’s a fair ball around first heading for two to second but way too late. Safe there. First pitch swing in went up there with a plan to be aggressive. Really important at bat coming up now. Bryce Eldridge the next to hit. He swings and misses at the first pitch. 0 and one the other way and that’s just fouled. Runner at second. Two down here in the bottom of the seventh. to the right side. Tosses to the pitcher covering the bag. That’s the third out. Inning over. One left for San Francisco. And they’re on the wrong end of a 74 score. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Logan Webb coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Kyle Carol digs in now. Third base number 12. That one fouled off. And now the 01 and that one upstairs. Ball one. Line drive. Fair ball. Takes the turn. He’s digging for second to second. Pulls him off the bag. Two hits for him in this one. both for extra bases. Got to feel good about that. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Now the Rockies catcher Braxton Fulford. First pitch. Not close. just missed. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Number 63, the hard throwing righty is up and loosening. Tang also throwing runner at second. Nobody out. That’s outside. Three balls, no strikes. Well, I would expect in this three-0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you and ball four to a just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. First and second, no outs. And next is the designated hitter. It immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Next offering is down low. Great take right there. Showed some really good discipline. Breaking ball coming in. You see it well, but don’t trust that it’s going to hang on for a strike. Nice job. And that one is lifted in the air. Gilbert in position. Nabs it. Runner tags at second. He makes it to third. Good base running to move up with only one out. Now we’ll see if moving up to third there pays off for him. He didn’t have to tag and go, but now he can score a lot of different ways. Doesn’t have to be a base hit. We’ll see what happens on the ground right side and foul ball. The 01 and the pitch is outside. Ball one. off the plate now. Two balls in a strike. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. And he can’t come up with it. Runner from third comes across and they’re up by four. And no shot to get him at first. ers two aboard. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Now here is Hunter Goodman. Almost got him. lace down the line. This looks like extra bases. Fulford around third. One run across coming home. He’ll score. Two runs are in. It’s 104. Picks himself up a couple of ribbies. A well-deserved double on a great swing. Got everything going on time. He stayed balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask. Here comes the manager out of the Giants dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Logan Webb won’t go any further and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching Kaiwe Ting on a pitch out of the pen here. And with the big deficit on the scoreboard, he almost has to just put that out of his mind. Every outing matters for relievers in their numbers. But I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game. So in now for Colorado, Blaine Crim and first offering is fouled off. hard on the ground to first and he handles it himself for the out. Now batting leftielder Jordan. Here’s the left fielder, Jordan Beck. Let’s go, Giants. Here’s a rip to short, but he’s there for the third out. Three runs on three hits, no errors, and a runner left. Last half of the eighth coming up, it’s the Rockies 10 and the Giants four. back here in a blowout which gives us a chance to talk about just about anything. Bro, don’t get me fired. All right, Singi in Ballpark Entertainment. You got a favorite mascot race? Yeah, I love what they do in DC with the former presidents. Somebody always gets tackled. They always get hurt. I know. And it’s just crazy. Imagine running around in those big bulky suits and somebody’s always going to go down. Almost a loud start to the inning on that first pitch. Man, he’s going to want that one back. No doubt. Here’s the center fielder, Jung Hu Lee. Come on, Giants. Do you remember when Tim Kirkin ran in the sausage race in Milwaukee? No, I didn’t see that one. Yeah. Yeah, they used one of the kidsiz ones. You know, this isn’t exactly a mascot race, but I love what they do in Atlanta with the freeze. Come on, Giant. In the air, left field, down the line, and that’s a foul ball. I wanted to race the freeze with one point. I don’t think my hamstrings could hold up for it now. I feel like 5 years ago you could have handled the freeze. It would have been fun. And I would bait you into it and try and get you to train to race the freeze and it just never materialized. Yeah, I would I appreciate that that you had enough confidence in me that I could beat a guy who looks like he was going to the Olympic trials at some point or another, but yeah, it’s always a great thing to watch there at Truist Park. Would you have worn one of those bobsled outfits like the Freeze wears? No, that would have been too a little too revealing for me at this age. I feel you. Doyle tracks it down for the out. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Swing and a ground ball out to short. Tosses across the first and that ends the inning. This one pretty well decided at this point. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Rockies 10 and the Giants four. We go to the ninth and the batter will be the shortstop Ezekiel Tovar. 10 back to work. Signs of movement in the Giants bullpen. Number 63 getting ready to go. swinging a highf fly ball down the right field line and there’s one down now batting the centerielder and now the center fielder Brenton Doyle I think when you contemplate him as a player the first thing you think about his defense and you think about that great arm. I also think about the speed. If he can get on, that’s going to give one more thing for that pitcher to think about. That one out to right. Gilbert makes the play. That’s out number two. Now that number 12. Two outs. Base is empty. Kyle Keros digging in for the Rockies. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. That one missed. Two down, nobody on here in the top of the ninth. And there’s a foul ball. Well, two outs and a chance to put up a zero on the scoreboard here. And that’s not something that’s come easy for this staff in this one. Off the mark there. Two balls, two strikes and delivers outside up the middle. Whips it to first on the run. They get the out and that’ll do it. Nothing doing for the offense that time. 891 do up in the bottom of inning number nine. It’s the Rockies 10 and the Giants four. They hand the ball over to a new arm, Jimmy Herget. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. And digging in for San Francisco, Drew Gilbert. Three for three. He’s got a pair of singles and a triple. Gilbert. That pitch gets the corner. 0 and one. And that one missing low. outside low and it’s two and one. I can’t play around with him here. It’s a six-run lead at this point. Got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot. Next one in the dirt. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and one out. Now he had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this. Known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Andrew Kizner, the next Giant to hit. 0 for three in this one. And that’s in there for strike one. And that one is inside. One ball, one strike. And now two balls in a strike. Next offering is fouled back. One down. Base is empty. Still two and two after the foul ball. Fouls it back with two strikes. Base is empty. One away here. the last half of inning number nine. Next offering way off the plate. Still just the second batter of the inning and on the mound he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. Line drive and that’s a base hit out into center field. So that will bring up the top of the order with one away. Now batting left fieldielder Elliot. And up next for San Francisco, Elliot Ramos in the dirt. Blocked. Kizner the runner at first with one gone in the inning in the dirt. The one-1 is fouled off. Come on, Giants. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and they’re down to their last out. Now back. And here is Deitter Raps check swing and he went. That’s strike one. and misses inside. Swaying and a miss. There’s that change up. Well, he went inside a couple of times and now outside. Hitter’s not exactly sure where to look for this next pitch. The Giants with a lot of ground to make up. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. That misses the zone. Two balls, two strikes. That turns out to be a really good take right there, but you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder. Herget is just one strike away. Smash to the left side and that’ll do it. Sometimes road trips can be tough. You’re away from your family, but when you can win, silence that opposing crowd, it makes things just a little bit better. Makes the road trip just a little bit shorter. 104 is how it ends. Roger Dodger, ground beef control for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
