W Out West | Estévez Secures MLB Saves Lead in Penultimate Game
Here in West Sacramento. It is the second three between the Royals and the Athletics Royals need two wins to finish over 500. Meanwhile, the A’s fourth best record in baseball since July 24th and they have gone 4 to 0 against the Royals this season. The young man on the mound, Jenny luis Morales ninth start of the season. It will be his final start of a 2025 campaign that saw him work through multiple levels in the minor league system. Arriving in the big leagues, we saw an electric arm reveal itself off the end of the bat and Soderstrom won’t get there kicks away and rolls to the line and Yastrzemski is at second base. Soderstrom got a good break on this ball that gives Yassky a leadoff double, Bobby Wade Jr at the plate that will move the runner and that will be a base hit and Bobby speed even before wilson got near that ball, you knew that was going to be a base hit. So give him 182 hits and the Royals have runners at 1st and 3rd and there goes Bobby, he got a good jump and he’s going to be in there and the ball rolls into center field and Bobby will advance to third as Jassy comes down from third and the Royals lead 1 to 0 and they have a runner at third base with nobody out a little surprise that Langle made this throw. It was an off speed pitch outside. He caught it a little bit awkward. He didn’t get a good read. Bobby obviously got a great jump and third base so surprising now the Royals looking to capitalize off that spiked it. Jacob Wilson tries to make a tough pick one away. Retired 12, strike 399. You can’t put this in a better spot. You see the little tail at the very end, just a little life on that fastball back to the arm side, swung on and missed gets him with a fastball. 99. All things considered not bad as the Royals had two on and nobody out. They get one, they leave one and here’s Michael Wacha coincidence or not Jeremy, he’s not bounced back. Well, after missing a start with the concussion one pitch, Kurtz is out that will bring up langeliers. That’s a shot in the left for a base. This is getting, he is 11 for 15 in his last four games and that will bring up Soderstrom. That’s a strike two down like Soderstrom wanted to complain, but knowing the two pitches previous was a strike to see Baba over the outer called strike three Rooker down looking that ends the bottom of the first Carter Jensen leads it off for the Royals. We go to the second bacon calling a lot of strikes. A lot of straight threes. Luis is living right 93 up top with a little life coming back to it and Frazier is out a lift in right center play butler back about two steps. Now coming in a couple of steps and he makes the catch. The Royals go down 123 back to the top of the order. And Mike Yass, who had a bloop double to start the ball game that goes Lawrence Butler. Mike. What a catch robbing Yastrzemski out in center field. Go get him law dog. Sorry about it. Lawrence Butler has done a fantastic job in center field trying to fill the shoes of Denzel Clark, a tough act to follow, but the law dog has done just fine on center stage himself want to bounce back to Morales in the one out. Looks at the baseball fires to first and you can run the fire at 85 to 13 on the put out. That’s nine in a row retired by Morales. Here’s Max Schuman. The number nine hitter was a couple based on some earlier calls, strike 31 thing been consistent and that is strikes called the top of the zone for me. This is where it becomes fun watching a young stud like Kurtz battle against a cagey like Michael walker. He swings and it’s a high in the air to right under. It did not get all of it is. There makes the catch and it’s a 123 inning for his first of the night. There is one away bring up Michael garcia and he gets him on the sweeper. It’s absolutely disgusting. Just straight filth 1st and 2nd 2 down for Frazier. He’s got 44 RBIs total on the year. Swung on and lifted to left pretty well. Going back for so near the track and makes the catch on the warning track. No runs. Michael Massey leans off against right hander, luis Morales grounded up the middle and to right center field. Massey gets a fastball ahead in the count. So if that’s what you do, you work ahead of the count. If you’re a hitter, you lay off the close ones and you’re likely to get something straight over the plate to miss morales. Good self talk tonight. Five strikeouts for him. There’s a solid base hit to center field and the Royals have two on one out for Bobby Wood Jr and Bobby by the way, is one for two and the 2 to 2 pitch and that swung on popped up. Playable short left center, a trio of a is it soder to the left fielder there? And he makes the catch that’s a big out any time you can get wit and you can retire him with two runners on base. That’s big past Contino the pass squatch the lead from first and second and he got it in on Vinny just enough. Wilson goes out tough play with the wind and it’s gonna drop and now it rolls deep and the Royals are going to get two at it. When you talk about the wind blowing out. Usually we’re talking about the wind pushing it two or over the wall that time it pushed it beyond Wilson’s range. If you can see the flags at Suter Health Park, you knew that ball was going to carry. Jacob wilson got a good jump on it. Soderstrom was coming in hard but he was too deep. Perfect placement right there and he cashes in two big runs for the Royals for morales. They are at the corners with two Brent Brooker, the Royal cutter away, six innings pitched just two hits allowed five strikeouts and he was as good as he has been all season long. Grat Michael w on a fine 2025 season Carlos Cortez a chance here in the seventh inning. This is the first to get the Carlos Cortez coming through with an RB A double. Cortez gets a fastball that’s elevated, scorches, a double up the gap and with two alters off to the races, he would score with no throw job well done. So there are real saves and Then there are actual saves call this perhaps the real save if zerpa gets the job done in the bottom of the eighth inning and there’s a line drive to the opposite field for Kurtz and the A’s immediately will have the leadoff man on. And what I mean by that, he will be facing the tougher hitters here in the eighth and he is one for three with a walk tonight and that will bring up will bring off to second. He goes and it’s an RB I double for langeliers to make it 3 to 2. Stay hot. Shay Langoliers. Nobody better at the dish in a spot like this 97 away from Langoliers and he spanks it and end up in that right field corner and now 13 for his last 18 and now the a bring the infield in with a runner on third and one out. Bobby Witt Junior at the plate but doesn’t slip away here. That is a base hit for junior and an RB I and the Royals lead by two in the ninth inning. A great job by junior. Staying in the at bat and smiles for him with that insurance run. Carlos Estévez with a save tonight will clinch leading the major leagues in saves this year. He has a one save advantage and down goes Hernes two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Jacob Wilson gets a head start at first base. Carlos Cortez at the plate is the potential tying run left field and the win pushes it and Frazier makes the play, ha ha ha. And carlos Estévez with that save leads the major leagues in 2025 with number 42. Congratulations, carlos.
Michael Wacha tossed 6.0 scoreless innings to help the Royals even the series vs. the Athletics in the penultimate game of the season! Carlos Estévez closed things out, earning his 42nd save of the season and securing the MLB saves lead for 2025.

We had a solid season. Let’s bounce back next year
Go Royals!!
The Royals are such a sad-sack team. They have some of the best pitching in the league but somehow can't find an outfielder who can hit better than his grandma.
If they could manage to get a corner outfielder with an impact bat next year they might just win the whole f**king thing.
Women should not be announcers on major sports broadcasts. They can call WNBA games if they want because nobody watches those.
Royals need a new hitting coach. They need to learn how to swing down on the ball instead of up. They're the king of pop flys. They're chasing home runs instead of getting hits.
Congrats to Carlos. Nice to see that KC has a quality every game closer now. Let's get a real OF and a couple of quality middle relief pitchers and try again next year.
We just need 2 big bats and another soild arm
fire hitting coaches and get some solid outfielders
Good for Carlos, he definitely deserves it. This ump also doesnt seem to know where the strikezone is. He was calling crap for each team.
If we had two decent outfielders and if one of them was a decent leadoff batter, we'd still be playing in October. We need to be taking more walks. We don't have a good understanding of the strike zone. Even Perez, who's probably seen 2 million pitches by now, can't figure out what a strike looks like most of the time. I blame the hitting coach for not getting through.
A's female announcer is definitely a DEI hire because her nasally voice is the equivalent of chalk scratching blackboard. 😣
