[Passan] “With Juan Soto’s record deal, the Mets are the new kings of New York. This is as much about the Mets as it is Soto — about a franchise that for its 63-year existence has lived in the shadow of its pedigreed neighbor. Not anymore.”

  1. I’m sure the mods will delete this, but I just wanted to pick everybody up on a disappointing day

  2. Soto asked himself “why would I want to work an extra month every year for free, I’m signing with the Mets so I don’t have to”

  3. Holy shit I either forgot that Passan said this or I didn’t know, he seems way too smart to actually say this and be serious about it.

  4. Too bad about those box seats. Guess Soto is gonna have to pay for his entourage to watch New York Postseason baseball after all.

  5. Mets were probably better off signing a couple of good pitchers and a decent hitter. Soto is great but he can’t do it all by himself.

  6. We all should chip in and buy Soto a fruit basket. If he signed with the Yankees we are looking forward to 2026 right now.

  7. Their mistake was thinking one player could do it all. Baseball isn’t basketball. One player can be transformative, but Soto couldn’t fix relying on guys like Frankie friggin Montas. It was their pitching that ruined them. The Yankees are well aware that Fried and Rodon and Cole’s contracts are risky and probably won’t age well. They do it anyway because they experienced the 2000s. Without starting pitching, you’re screwed.

  8. His whole vibe this year was off. He was in the perfect spot. Not the best player on the team or the league but Judge let him feel he was worthy. What a mistake he has to live with until the end of the 2029 season when he opts out.

  9. We really ended up on the good end of the deal. Not bc Soto wasn’t worth the money but bc we all know Hal would’ve shut down spending after signing him.

Signing Fried + Bellinger + Goldy was a better use of dollars at least in the short term, and in the long term we’ll have the flexibility to make moves that we otherwise wouldn’t have.

  10. I know I know “we’re in the playoffs we don’t care about little brother.”

Idc, I will always enjoy watching the Mets Met

  11. Damn, I thought it would be 3 to 5 years before I could laugh at the Mets for how stupid they are to be giving Juan Soto that much money. Man oh man am I gonna have a fun time with my Mets-loving friends.

  12. Gary Cohen’s live reaction on SNY was that it immediately made the Mets the favorites to win the East.

  13. Hey Soto what happened to all that talk about wanting to play for a team that can win and build a dynasty enjoy watching us in the playoffs in your private suite in Citi Field next month
