Paul George On The Philadelphia 76ers 2025 Expectations & More! | Mid-Days On The Fanatic
Paul, we’ll let you get set up there. Is you take in all this media day. First off, how are you feeling? How’s the knee doing? How’s everything uh progressing right now for you? Uh yeah, feeling better and better. Progressing uh nicely. Um uh right where I want to be. Um as far as uh healthwise, getting stronger and stronger. Um yeah, the work that I’ve been putting in is paying off. Yeah, man. And you didn’t hide it this off seasonason when you talked about last year for this team and the expectations and where the team ended up. So, how much of what happened last year motivates you going into your second season here in the city? A ton. A ton. I know I haven’t won a championship, but I’ve never been on this side of losing. Um, having a rough year. Um, you know, that doesn’t sit well with me. That didn’t sit well with me. Um, and I think everybody here in this organization, um, is motivation for all of us. Again, talked about the guys that been here working 2, 3 weeks before we even start the season. Just the the level of, uh, what it means to kind of come in with a different mindset. Um, and, uh, you know, attacking the challenge that we had last year. So, um, you know, again, I think we we came in probably with a too big of an expectation. Um, obviously we looked good on paper, but to think about, you know, sports period, man, if you’re not healthy, you know, it’s just not going to work out. Um, so, you know, health is very important for us this year. We know that. We understand that. We’ve been through that. Um, so again, I think that was a one-off. All we can focus on is just competing um as we would any other year. And you mentioned just getting everyone here and getting together. What have the conversations looked like between you, Joelle, Tyrese about where you guys expect to go this year and what you guys are looking to bring this year as opposed to what happened last season? Yeah, you know, last year it was just there wasn’t really much room for us to go because we were never healthy for the whole year together. Um, so I think again it’s more so about what we still expect out of one another, what we expect to bring out of, you know, ourselves, what we’re bringing this year individually. Um, and then collectively we’ll put it all together. Um, we’ve just haven’t had much time to see it. Uh, with all of us being healthy. Now, there’s a cool balance with this team this year with some of the young guys that you have along with yourself and Joelle and Kyle Lowry, Eric Gordon, the vets. But adding VJ Edgecom, seeing Tyrese Maxi continue to grow, seeing what some of the players that got opportunities last year, we just talked to Justin Edwards and what he got to do last year. How does that balance feel to you as far as a positive force on this team, the amount of vets and then the next generation that Sixers players? Yeah. Well, you know, to speak on the future, the future is in great hands. um with Tyrese, with uh Quinton hopefully being locked in uh for many more years after this this season. Um uh VJ, uh Jared, Justin, um the future is is definitely bright. Um you know, first and foremost, but um and again, to piggy back off of that, VJ looks amazing. I think he’ll be a rookie that really stands out. Maybe a chance to be rookie of the year with uh how impressed I’ve been. Um just watching him play like you know obviously he flashed high potential the reason he was picked third um but to see him up close to watch him in here every day he’s getting better and better and I think he’ll be a player that we you know will rely on and count on to to give us a big boost but um I think the mix of the youth mix of veteran um we’ve we’ve you know we’re here to still be ourselves you know I plan on coming in 100% when I it is my time to be called on and be available and be ready. Um, I will be myself, be back to to to form. Everyone will. Tyrese looks great. He’s been working hard. Big fella looks great. Um, so I think we got a great blend once again of of uh experience, leadership with youth and and and fresh legs. You mentioned Quinton there and obviously there is the outside of what’s going to happen, what’s going on with the contract. Have you had conversations with him and do you anticipate him being around sooner rather than later? Uh, you know, you let guys deal with their, you know, obviously we want him here. Um, he has such a a great year um to finish this year out really challenged and I think people don’t understand he was a number one option um and was being uh defended and challenged as a number one option with all of our injuries last year. Um, so he really uh really shouldered a lot. Um, and so he did a great job with it. you know, I I I would love for him to, you know, be a Sixers for a long time. We would we definitely want him back here. Um, but, you know, you also let guys He’s got a decision to make at the end of the day. And he’s I I love the position that he’s in of of kind of, you know, he has a chance to kind of, you know, pioneer what what he wants to do and where he wants to go with his career. So, you you you allow guys that opportunity. But, um, for sure definitely want them here. Well, Paul, we appreciate the time, man. We can’t say you guys don’t have the pieces. We can’t say you don’t have the motivation. We’re rooting for you guys this year and uh best of luck with everything, man. Appreciate you guys. Thanks for watching our interview with Paul George.
