New York Mets have been ELIMINATED from Postseason Contention
Goal here of course is if you can get Lindor and Sodto on you can get Alonzo to the plate as the tying run. Third baseman Paulie playing it on the grass against Lindor. Don’t know why. And he pulls one on the ground. A chance for two to second one. Back to first. And the Mets agonizing 3 and 1/2 month slow motion collapse is complete. [Applause] It is unfathomable that this collection of talent winds up outside of an expanded playoff system after having the best record in baseball for the first 2 and 1/2 months of the season. Everything goes wrong over the last three and 1/2 months and the Mets find themselves on the outside looking in. [Music] players are about as stunned as the fans. I think a lot of the players felt as though this day would never come that they’d be able to turn it on at some point and not have to endure this, but they weren’t able to do that. Well, you got a you got a Marlins team. Sorry, Ron. I didn’t uh that in 2007 2008, we don’t have to remind Met fans that have done this. They took two out of three here. The Mets took the series. They’re in. They didn’t do it. So, the Marlins once again do the Mets in. And this has got to be just so heartbreaking and disappointing uh for the players, but they didn’t get it done. 2007, 2008, 2025. The Mets get brilliant pitching in game number 161 to put themselves in position but are unable to seal the deal in the final day of the season and fall to the Marlins who knocked them out of the postseason yet again. You were talking about the 21 games over 500. The Mets started where the first two months of the season, their starting pitching was the best in baseball, but through injuries and inconsistencies, they ended up being a starting pitching uh staff that could not get to the fifth inning, which led to an exhausted bullpen. Their defense went in the tank in the second half, and you ended up with none of that working and a topheavy lineup, and that’s all you had left. You know, Gary, they’re they’re going to they’re going to say the Met pitching, but you know what it is? It was a team effort here. Remember the first half of the year, the Mets did not hit in the clutch the whole first half of the season. All the wins and losses, they add up, you know, when you have the winning season, you put it all together, both offensively and defensively. Uh the the Mets pitching carried them in that first half and then the Met offense kind of turned it on in the second half. But, you know, you got to look at their record from from June on, well under 500. I’m I’m watching the Marlins. They just took a team picture in front of their dugout like they’re going to the postseason. Well, this was their World Series. They took two out of three, knocked the Mets out of the postseason. We saw the Reds celebrating in Milwaukee. It seems almost impossible that the Mets could get the seasons they did from Sodto and Alonzo and Lindor and NMO and still fall short of this 12 team playoff system. Many of the numbers historical for this franchise and for their own careers. Um yeah, it’s it’s just hard to believe that this day has come. You know, we’ve always taught it with a topheavy lineup, Gary. And I found myself for the first time in the booth covering the Mets saying, “We got to turn the we got to flip the lineup to get to that big four.” And that big four has to come through. You know, they have to do it and get done. You got to a game 162 with a team like this and you didn’t even know who you wanted to pitch, who was going to pitch. That’s what that’s what you ended up with a game 162 that you had to have. You didn’t even know who you needed to pitch. First time in Edwin Diaz’s career that he threw the most innings for his team that day. He did his job six up and six down, but you know, there was no offense, so it it didn’t really matter. This was our 20th year. Yes. And um somehow we have kept the team together and we still like each other and and and you know, it it’s a pretty amazing thing. I don’t know about that. But it’s been fun. It’s been a great run and uh it is uh been nothing but fun. Stay in the games. It’s a It’s a joy and honor to work with you two gentlemen. Thank you. And thank you to Greg Picker, our producer, John Deargo, our director, and the other two guys in the truck, Eddie Warman and Tom Rocklin, who travel with us all year long, all around the country. We appreciate them more than we can say. And you guys, you guys and Steve, you are my brothers. I want to add one more thing. All the cameramen back at City Field that do the games that are so professional, that make it easy for us, that are spot-on, they’ve been with us for a long time, too. And they do a A1 job, and we recognize that. One of the most disappointing years that the Mets have ever suffered through their 64 year history. Expectations could not have been higher. The start could not have been better coming off a magical year last year. And it ends in ashes. 83 and 79, far below what anybody would have anticipated as the Marlins win the finale 4 nothing to knock the Mets out of the postseason and put the Cincinnati Reds in in theirstead. Death.

So last year they didn't pay $765 million and got to the post season fine and was quite competitive and lost to the eventual champion, this year they paid the $765 mil and couldn't even sniff at the playoff. This is the worst deal in sports history.
The Mets really weren't that good of a roster tbh. Aside from Lindor Soto Alonso Nimmo they have a pretty bad lineup.
You absolutely love to see it
Itβs beautiful
From a Reds fan. Thank you Marlins! I feel for the Mets fans tho. If i were a fan my god id be sooooo heartbroken and so confused as to how they didnt make it. For what its worth better luck next year! Hope you all recover and do well next year and get in!
HA! HA!
The 2025 Mets have repeated the same fate from 2007 where they collapsed and missed the playoffs. You see that, Gary Cohen?!
The Mets just pulled no, RIPPED a page from the 2023 Philadelphia Eagles book. STRONG Start only to COLLAPSE!!
How tf do the Marlins do this to the Mets again? lmao
