Minnesota Vikings News Dump (8.26.2025) | 53 Man Deadline Today, Blackmon Traded, Jakobi Meyers?

[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? It’s birds are chirping and stuff. Tuesday. There you go. Uh it’s kind of tough doing the uh news dumps about this time of year, you know, these couple of days because it’s such a fluid situation. Things happen. Uh news gets outdated. Rumors and conjecture don’t come through or they or they go through. They’re blockbuster trades and all that stuff. But it’s okay. It’s okay. uh and a three well yeah we’ll get to Rosha Cut downs but uh the the news dour of the Vikings yesterday they traded of Mai Blackman to the Colts for a 2026 six round pick and I was like Mai Blackman third round pick 2023 out of USC you balled out as a rookie and then tore his ACL first day of practice last year you know pencled in as a starter just didn’t quite work out right and the Vikings quarterback room right now may make sense that the Vikings would be working out a deal for a corner you got Murf Rogers and Akuda at this point in time and Blackman if he’s healthy and good to go would have been solid depth. Uh but you still have Nudy um who’s definitely making an impression here too. Zomay Vaughn the UDFA Tavier Thomas Ambry Ambry Thomas as well uh Khalil Hassie can play some quarterback as well. So I mean the Vikings will probably make an addition in the quarterback room. All right. And one of the additions could be Mike Hilton who just got released by the Dolphins. Uh played his entire career with the Bengals. some of the best blitzing quarterbacks in the league is 31 but for one year could certainly add some depth as well as Alex Johnson preseason superstar for the Colts. uh he you know grayed out very well uh of PFF on PFF the pride of UCLA uh could be an addition as well. And now remember you know lots of players are going to be released and going through waiverss and all that stuff right now but if a waiver claim comes in on a player and these the the waivers process tomorrow they have to be on the 53. You can’t waiver claim a player onto your practice squad. Can’t do that. So players that you would think would be claimed might not be and then the team is able to get them onto their practice squad. Uh and as of right now, Quy has basically ba basically uh you know, doubled up their day three uh draft picks in 2026, 2027. But moving on from Howal, Blackman, Harrison Phillips, and all three of those guys, well, how questionable Blackman, maybe Phillips, eh, uh, they they might not have made the Vikings 53 or they clear out ways that the Vikings clear up cap space as well as some congestion in the defensive line room. So, lots of things right now. So, Quy Quy’s cooking. Quy’s doing a lot of things right now. The Vikings have a first, a second, two/3s with projected comps, a fourth, three- fifths, a sixth. We got the sixth rounder back as well as two sevenths and about 32 million in cap space. So, lots of things going down. Uh whether it’s a thean trade, whether it’s a signing, whether it’s whatever, I don’t know. But today, uh, the Vikings at 3 p.m. Central time, the only times on the matter is Vikings have to be down to the 53man rooster and then waiverss process and then you can start assembling your practice squad about 3:00 on Wednesday. Uh, but uh, and route to trying to get to 53. Tom Pelisero go the Vikings plan to wave offensive tackle Leroy Watson. Per source call shut in. Watson has appeared in 11 NFL games, four starts. If Minnesota can’t trade him by Tuesday’s cut down deadline, he’ll hit waivers. So, one one of those, hey, we’re waving him, but we’ll trade him. And Leroy, uh, you know, Watson fared out pretty well uh, in preseason, and he’s those games they started with the Tennessee Titans, and I don’t know, just turns into a numbers game at at a certain point uh, along the Vikings offensive line, but Watson could be a practice squad candidate uh, if he does clear waiverss or there’s not a taker for a trade with him. And then also the punting competition. All right. Uh, Ben guessing, the Vikings waved Oscar Chapman and Watson. If Chapman clears waiverss, the Vikings can use the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program exemption to claim him with an extra practice squad spot. So, there you go. Now, this doesn’t immediately mean that Ryan Wright won the punting job because I mean, there could be a new punter as well. Uh because it’s similar to was it Jeff Lockach toward the end of his career where it looked like he had won the punting competition but then the Vikings picked up Ryan Quigley who who had gotten let go by the Steelers I believe. Yeah, Quigley down under. I I think that he was a too. So again, lots of moving parts and these next couple of days that there’s going to be so many so many things and so many microtransactions going on. It’s a lot. Another transaction is the Saints released running back Cam Acres. And again, the running joke, you know, the Vikings trade him from from the Rams in 2023. The Vikings trade for him from the Texans in 2024. End up being RB2 uh with the Vikings by the end of the year. And then he signed with the Saints and we’re going to trade. He has to sign somewhere else so we can trade for him or we just get him as a free agent onto the practice squad. Yeah. Uh but Saints released him. You crowded Ryback room in New Orleans. Sort of makes sense. Acres tweet out NFL a crazy place. It really is. So, welcome on in. Come to the practice squad. Come come here. I would rather have Acres than Ty Chandler. And it’s clear that the Vikings do as well because they traded for Acres last year when Ty Chandler could have been running back, too. But then Acres became running back, too. All right. Uh, and Acres, I mean, he’s still young. He’s still only 25. Uh, decent three-phase running back. Uh, very, very experienced with the Kevin Oonnell offense. So, there you go. Uh, also, Steema is available. Uh Jordan Schultz sources the Broncos are waving running back Audrey Eststee and I really liked him in the draft process in 2024. Just a bowling ball. Well, not even bowling ball, just a power running back. Uh the pride of Notre Dame and I mean I I wouldn’t mind him on the practice squad. And remember, just because he was on the Broncos 90man doesn’t mean that he has to sign with the Broncos practice squad. He can go anywhere else. Like he is a true free agent if he does clear waiverss. So gonna be interesting. Also interesting, if the Vikings can’t secure Adam, Jerome, Ezekiel, Theon, there could be other options out there. Now, we we we laid out the Jacobe Meyers plan for a one-year rental. you know, Quasi is assembling all of these day three picks. And I I I don’t think that uh I do not think that Jacobe Myers is going to warrant anything more than a early day three selection or somewhere in in that neighborhood of value because he wants out wants a new contract. Just not going to be a lot of takers at this point. Uh but rap sheet Raiders wide receiver Jacob Myers recently met with team brass requested to be traded permanero team citing his value blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. So we we we laid we laid it out. Trade for him, freshen up his deal a little bit and then trade him next off seasonason. Tag and trade or he leaves in free agency compensatory pick. So what you give up for him in a trade essentially is a wash that that you will get back. Uh that’s what it comes down to. And I I kind of like the idea of Jacobe Myers with Jefferson the first three games. Then once Addison gets back, woo, three deep. It’ll be good. or if anything it will put some pressure on the Panthers to make a decision on Adam’s room, Ezekiel Thelen because that window it’s close to that’s the Vikings leveraged walking away finding another taker and because the Panthers right now are trying to twist the screws to the Vikings because I mean they they think that they’re all in on the Vikings pay through the nose. Ain’t going to happen. Yeah. So the world turns so much drama also around the league. Uh Mike follow Lions are releasing quarterback Henden Hooker. Sources say Dan Campbell suggests the other day the 2023 third round pick could use a change of scenery and he’ll have the chance to do so now. I I I never like Henden Hooker in the draft. I just didn’t. And you know despite him having an ACL uh you know torn ACL in the 2023 draft process just the Josh Hyple Tennessee offense you know reading half the field as opposed to you have to read the full field as in the NFL. it just didn’t sync up, you know, and these, you know, gadgety offenses are are perfectly fine in college, but a lot of players aren’t NFL ready or it’s a big jump. It’s a big learning curve when they come into the league. And, you know, there’s a reason why the the Lions signed Teddy each of the last two years to be Jared Goof’s backup and they trusted him over a third round pick who had been in the offense, right? Also, Hooker’s out of work, recession indicator. It’s rough, man. It’s rough. Also, so Trey Hendrickson got his contract freshening him. And of course, in true cheap ass Bengals fashion, like it’s not even a long-term extension. It’s just a one-year band-aid deal, right? Uh but, you know, they gave him a raise up to 30 million bucks. Cool. But it it’s so noteworthy because the Vikings play the Bengals week three. Uh as well as he does not end up on the Bears or the Packers. And for that, we thank you. That’s it. Also, clo closing out wide receiver options. Scary Terry. I mean, it’s a pipe dream. Absolute pipe dream for Scary Terry at this point. I I’ll take Jacobe Myers for a lot less value, but that’s fine. Uh but Scary Terry inks it up, runs it back with Jaden Daniels. He didn’t seem too concerned about the contract and done. But you know, the commies, they’re back to the Daniel Snider days. Like, hey, let’s give insane money to someone north of 30. Let’s do that. All right. But uh you know, Washington could be competitors in the NFC. So, we’ll see. Scary Terry back in the building. And as we said, there is a lot that there’s a lot of things going on right now. Um 53 band cuts today, practice squad uh being assembled tomorrow. I’m sure there’ll be a cut, a trade, a signing all over the place for Quy. Like he’s he’s assembling cap space and assembling draft picks for a reason. I think the Vikings are going to do something with him. So stay tuned today. Anyways, that’s it. That’s at Vikings news dump for this beautiful glorious Tuesday. You guys are the best. You know what to do. Skull production value.

  1. I wish Blackmon all the best. Ideally, his knee will continue to heal & get stronger. 🙏 As I mentioned a day or two ago, I have wondered if Kwesi A-M has been asked to trade for/pick up a really solid CB, in case there are injuries among the top 3 on the roster. Perhaps the cap space Kwesi A-M has created isn't for Thielen…🤔

  2. The Vikings should have been more patience with Blackmon's recovery from knee injury. A 3rd round pick who has shown great potential, and now we are getting a sixth in return?!? .Great! SKOL!

  3. It’s not a knock on black men if he was gonna get cut, he may need an extra year to get that knee right but it was smart for the Vikings to trade him to at least get something for him because if they released him, he would’ve never passed waivers

  4. Kwesi cooking. My hope – Trent Sherfield. Perfect candidate for wr3. Cap friendly, compensation friendly, knows the offense, does the dirty work, underratedly reliable. Send a 6th and get Trent and a 7th back.
SKOL Trent Sherfield! Let’s make it happen and not burnout our carry over cap on a $10m plus wr 3 that probably takes a 4th round pick to get done.

  5. So I don't understand what the plan is we are built to win now so if this is just for draft stock for 26 I get it but we already need a receiver now we need a cb

  6. Lately the Vikings cornerback room annually seems like musical chairs. Who’s even left from last year? It’s becoming a rarity when a corner lasts three years with the Vikings.
