So I know this wouldn’t work as a long term solution but why couldn’t the team play at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum even short term I know the amount of work and money to bring it up to modern standards would be way too much and that’s why it wouldn’t work long term but I feel like this would have been better then Tempe or even going back to Glendale to some extent idk if it’s my love for the coliseum or if it was a viable alternative plz inform why it could/couldn’t work

  1. It was considered, but the price tag to bring it to ADA standards and NHL required tech and locker rooms, was just way way way too high to pour into a building that is not of longterm use.

The idea with ASU was to establish the Tempe and ASU connection, as those leadership groups were impactful on a longterm Tempe arena success.

Ofcourse, that never panned out… but thats the idea behind it.

I think I can speak for a lot of Coyotes fans… We want the next move to be LONNNNNNNG TERM..

  3. As much history as the coliseum has, between Roadrunners and Mustangs Hockey and the Suns, it’s a shame that it is not more of a prime consideration for long-term success. But that plan would have to include a complete removal and replacement process in order to meet current NHL standards. The AZSTA would have to absorb the costs and process for the facility. Meruelo did look at it, and the costs weren’t outrageous, but revamping it was still a hefty chunk and still would have needed a new Arena planned somewhere else.
