Vikings PROBLEMS EXPOSED In Ugly Loss vs. Steelers

Yo, what’s going on everybody? Welcome to the Vikings now by chat sports. My name is Patrick Seatman and coming up on today’s show wanted to recap the Vikings 24 to21 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers as we are getting more news in right now. Brian O’Neal is set to get an MRI on his knee later tonight. So, that’s obviously not good news for us Vikings fans. So, coming up, just want to recap the loss, give you guys my more uh give you guys more thoughts on the offense struggling, just the offensive line not playing too well. And then, you know, it’s top to bottom just them not being good enough today. And even though you had a chance late in that game, you really did not deserve a chance to win that. I thought the Steelers just kind of handed you an opportunity late in that one. But overall, just a very, very bad day. Um, injuries, the performance, just everything awful uh for us Vikings fans. But let me ask you guys this here first. I’m going to give you guys my thoughts. Vikings are two and two. You know, it feels like we’re 0 and4. It feels awful right now. But let me ask you guys this. Can the Vikings make the playoffs? Give me a Y for yes. Give me an N for no. You guys let me know how you’re feeling. Two and two. Got a really brutal schedule after the buy. If you’re going to want to make the playoffs, you’re going to have to beat a lot of good football teams. And obviously, we’re not feeling too good right now. But as it stands right now, two and two, Browns next week. Will the Vikings make the playoffs? Give me a Y for yes. Give me an N for no. So, I think the biggest story line of the game today was the offensive line and the quarterback play was not good whatsoever. And I don’t care about the injuries. The one thing that bothers me so much with this offensive line, they have to be the worst unit in the NFL when it comes to picking up stunts and picking up twist concepts. I don’t care if it is a third string defensive lineman running a twist or a stunt, whatever it is. The Vikings just can’t pick it up. And it wasn’t just today against the Steelers. This has been a theme throughout the entire season when these defenses when they run creative, you know, pressure looks where they’re twisting, stunting on the defensive line, the Vikings offensive line just can’t pick it up. It doesn’t matter if it’s Donovan Jackson, Christian Darasol, Justin School, Michael Jurgens. It doesn’t matter who’s in there. The Vikings have yet to be able to, you know, at least be a good team and a good offensive line when it comes to picking up those concepts. And also, I’m pretty sure the Vikings out of their last six games have been sacked three plus times. I don’t know if that’s just a Kevin Okano stat. I don’t know if that’s an offensive line stat or a quarterback stat. My best guess would be it’d be a combination of the three. But clearly the offensive line’s not good enough. And what’s so scary is you got your ass handed to you by a Pittsburgh Steelers defensive line, which is good. Like I’m not saying this was like, you know, the Panthers or the Saints Dines coming into, you know, Dublin, Ireland, and just kicked your ass up front. Like this is a good Steelers defensive line. But what was so frustrating with the offensive line in that game, and you know there’s really no way to control this, like Brian O’Neal getting hurt, nothing you can do, but the Vikings every single true passing down, they had to put a tight end or a running back on TJ Watt’s side every single time. Now TJ Watt never ended up getting home, but a big reason for that because the Vikings were just chipping and helping on his side over and over again. And when you do that, that just kind of puts the offense behind the eightball because then that guy who is set to chip uh TJ Watt or you know set to just, you know, give an extra blocker to him. They can’t go out there in the passing game. It’s tough to run, you know, more quick concepts when one of your guys is has to be in line helping out TJ Watt. So, you know, it it was so funny. You know, I felt confident about Brian O’Neal going against TJ Watt. And then right away once Justin School was out there, I’m like, “All right, this is over.” Like I’m like that is just a matchup nightmare for the Vikings and it was just in school going against TJ Watt. So you have to chip them. You have to put somebody over there. But overall the offensive line was just flat out horrendous today. Um listen I thought Wentz wasn’t that good either. Um obviously I mean I know this raw numbers probably looked decent. 350 yards, two touchdowns, but the guy was just holding on to the ball way too long. Uh couldn’t get set in the pocket. But again, like I don’t know if that’s also WZ looking so, you know, fidgety in the pocket. Is that just like a result of one bad offensive line play, but also two Kevin Oonnell just having these long developing plays over and over again? Like look at what the Steelers did today. Aaron Rogers, I’m pretty sure was 18 to 22, just over or maybe 200 yards on the dot, had a touchdown. But if you take away that one DK Metaf 80 yard slant he took to the house. Rogers was like 17 of 21 120 yards just kind of dinking and dunking his way up the field playing a little ball control. Now obviously that’s a lot easier doing that with a guy like Rogers but the Steelers showed you it. They show you how to run a quick game and I just wonder with these quarterbacks for the Vikings where they get it just seems like everybody kind of gets nervous in the pocket like obviously a bad offensive line play but it’s also with these long developing routes like I’m sure Wentz is thinking in his head like all right I got to wait 3 seconds for these deep inbreing routes but also I know pressure is coming in two and a half seconds and then these guys just start almost playing mental gymnastics with themselves and that’s why today offensively like it was flatout horrible like you take away a couple of plays like take away, you know, that Jordan Addison, which also, by the way, that Jordan Addison uh should have been touchdown to make it 24-21. Uh Carson Wentz, that was one of the worst throws of the day. Addison was wide open. And it wasn’t like something where Addison came open late. No, you saw from the quarterback’s lens, Addison was going to be wide open right away. This dude just throws a duck in the air. Addison has to kind of retreat back to it. Then he had to get himself going again. He kind of slipped a little, but there was no excuse for that not to be a walk-in touchdown. And that maybe that changes the game. Like then Addison walks in with 240 remaining. Vikings are, you know, still have a timeout in their back pocket. Maybe they’re able to, I don’t know, just have more time on that last game-winning drive, but that was a bad miss. And just overall, like it just wasn’t good enough. I I will give one some credit though. Like he did stick in the pocket tough. He made a couple of big- time throws, but he was just careless with the football and just that that was the Carson Wentz experience. That’s why he’s a backup quarterback. And I’ll give you guys my thoughts on the whole JJ Carson Wentz thing. And then we’ll uh talk about the defense here in a little bit. But I do quickly uh want to say thank you to uh everybody who has hit that subscribe button. Uh crossed over 62,000 subs today during a watch party. So seriously, thank you guys so much. I have a blast. I love my job. I love covering the Vikings even during the, you know, dark times that we are in right now. Um, but I love what I do and you guys make it so much more enjoyable and I understand we ask you guys to subscribe a lot to the channel as you guys hear a dog chewing a chew toy in the background. Um, but we ask you guys to hit that subscribe button a lot. So, I just appreciate everybody who does take a time out of their day to one watch us and then when we ask you guys to subscribe, we appreciate you guys, you know, doing just that. So, seriously, thank you guys so much. feel like I formed a relationship with a lot of you guys that watch this show every single day and you know it doesn’t go unnoticed like all of you guys commenting I try to get back to most of you but just the support on the channel has been absolutely fantastic so just want to take a quick second here thank you guys I know it’s probably annoying to you know hear us ask for subscribers all the time but it really does help us out here like we’re a company at chat sports we’re trying to grow we’re trying to get better year-over-year so you guys just doing the little things like liking the video commenting your thoughts and subscribing it really does help. I know it’s a little corny. I know it’s a little cheesy, but it really does uh go a long way here. So, again, thank you guys so much. 62K and if you aren’t subscribed, change that. Subscribe today. But I think the JJ McCarthy Carson Wentz debate flat out throw it out the window. That it is over. Um now, obviously with Wentz losing today, I think that put the nail in the coffin. But even if the Vikings somehow came back and won that game, I thought it was pretty obvious this is JJ McCarthy’s job because I would have needed to see a seismic difference between Carson Wentz and JJ McCarthy. Like Wentz honestly would have probably had to go 303 today, play a perfect game, do the same thing against, you know, the Cleveland Browns next week, but he didn’t. He played bad. That’s who Carson Wentz is. careless with the football, kind of has this reckless gunslinger mentality, and he’s just a backup quarterback. Like, you expect your backup quarterback to go 500 if you’re a good football team, and that’s what Wes has done so far. Now, hopefully he can beat the Browns next week. I will say little early preview to that Browns game. If that offensive line is beat up, and they probably will be, like realistically, um you’re going to be without Brian O’Neal and Ryan Kelly until week seven. If if not past that, I could see us getting really bad news on Brian O’Neal eventually um at some point, but you know, you’re going to be with three backup offensive linemen. Browns, even though they’re a terrible football team, they got an elite front four. Uh their defensive line, Miles Garrett, Mason Graham, um they just got dudes up there and that could be a very tough matchup for the Vikings offensive line. So, not really feeling too confident about that game. But I think it’s also guaranteed that week seven that we see JJ McCarthy back out there because you know let’s just say for some reason we lose next week to the Browns. You’re probably not making the playoffs. You fall to two and three with the Eagles, Chargers, Lions, Ravens, Commanders, Packers, Bears, like just no no more gimmies for the year. So the goal of the year should be to develop JJ and develop that connection with Jefferson. And honestly, if we’re thinking big picture, like clearly this team is banged up. Like I don’t even it’s so tough to evaluate like the 2025 Vikings because like we don’t know what this team is like all the injuries and I hate pulling the injury card but it’s just so true in football especially when you lose like you’re without Van Geno and Cashman today. That’s your second and third best player defensively. Like you’re without three starting offensive lineman. You’re on your backup quarterback. You don’t even have Aaron Jones there. You don’t even have CJ Ham there. like you’re missing probably eight of your top 25 most important players. Like it’s tough to win games. So I guess if I want to take a positive view here and we can close it out with some positivity. One, the Vikings are banged up. Two, you had a backup quarterback playing. Carson Wentz was terrible. You’re two and two. Just go handle business against the Browns. You move to three and two and then hopefully after the buy, you got CJ Ham back, you got Aaron Jones, you hopefully we’ll see about Brian O’Neal, but you probably have Donovan Jackson back, Ryan Kelly. Let’s just pray for the best and hope for the best that his, you know, concussion situation isn’t too serious. But then you’ll have Van Ginkle for sure back. You’ll have Cashman back and then you got JJ McCarthy coming. So what if the Vikings I mean listen guys we also talked about so much as fans that we don’t want to peak during the season and we want to peak later on in the year. This is what you kind of got to go through. Eagles last year were two and two. The Vikings when they made the title game in 2017 they were two and two. So I understand it’s feels tough. It sucks right now. There’s no doubt about it. But I still got faith in this team to turn it around. Um, but it starts with the head coach and I’m still a massive believer in Kevin Okonnell. Um, especially today, like I’m sure when you go back and watch all 22, there’s just be receivers running wide open and uh, once just missing them, him not having time. But, you know, KC’s just got to be better. That’s about it. Like, it was just a depressing loss. A very, very, very depressing loss. But, again, thank you guys so much for tuning in. Um, we’ll video coming out tomorrow morning here on the channel. Um, and just thank you guys so much for all your support. See you guys next time. School bikes. [Music]

  1. I'm coming out from California for the week 7 Eagles game. I would like to see JJ play QB. I hope we win but the eagles are 4-0 now, I've seen how they play, very aggressive, I'll be happy with a close game

  2. KOC got exposed last year week 17 against the Lions. I said 2 weeks ago…..there is a reason the first 2 games of this season looked exactly like the last 2 games last season( one quarter aside).

Defenses know how to play the KOC offense AND they also know HE WILL NOT adjust.

Also Kwesi got fleeced by Ryan Kelly. Dude is a walking concussion robbing the Vikings blind

The O line is legit WORSE than it was last year.

  3. Vikings have the NFL Worst second team players. This starts with the draft. Look at the last 4 years drafted players. Unlike free agency where The coaches are good at getting GM to bring them in . It’s the draft room that must change

  4. Like I've been saying, I've been saying KOC plays have no imagination they're to long developing, no crossing routes, running plays are alway up the middle ! But its way too early to be panicking as most of you casuals do . What you think when 3 o lineman and 2 of your best defenders are out 🤷🏽‍♂️ so chill with the doom and gloom whinning!

  5. I want JJ back. But in Wentz defense he was getting beat up. It happens to everyone that takes a shellacking like that, footwork suffers, the ball turns into a hot potato, throws lose confidence and zip…

  6. Don't want to sound like a broken record but, this is the Vikings, year in and year out for at least the past 2 decades. Things are not going to change until ownership decides it's time that the Insanity ends.

  7. Man Wentz gon show up give em 1 more chance. The o line issues won't show that much if McConnell changes the game plan quick passing and run game. You can't really put this on Wentz because McConnell didn't make any adjustments. That's not on Carson if you don't got time what can you do? Just subscribed though 💯.

  8. I can’t see how the Vikings would go to the Super Bowl making silly decisions like letting a QB that gave you 14 win season walk out of the building just to hand the keys to a unproven rookie that’s still not on the field after his second year. And could have had him for a team friendly deal of 30 mill a year to guy that was playing without an all-star left tackle 🤔

  9. I’ll have to give a IDK , it was a sack fest , I was surprised that linebacker although a very fast LB caught up with Addison they got the touchdown eventually but that killed some valuable time. And it sucks Jefferson lost his footing 15 yards from the end zone , that might have been a touchdown
Ended up being a field goal, Vikes win by one point if you do the math . Untimely penalties , the only silver lining is it ended up being competitive. Yeah all the injuries are tough sledding for the team. That schedule does sound like an. up hill battle, hopefully they beat the Brown in which is definitely winnable !
It will feel better going through that crazy tough part of the schedule 3-2 rather then 2-3
Go vikes anything is possible !

  10. Having watched the Vikes, and football, for 60 years, some things are crystal clear;
    1. KOC is blinded by all the ignorant ESPN, coach, & Award accolades to his flaws as a play caller–he's one of the worst.
    2. Instead of building a solid, well-oiled machine, he's forcing the pieces of his offense into his elaborate schemes that routinely fail.
    3. He does not see his flaws, which were evident last year if you looked closely. Flores deserved Coach of the Year more than KOC. Without Flores defense, last year would have been a mess. KOC's flaws were often evident, but rescued by Flores. The last two games they were on full display, and against tough teams, Flores could only do so much.
    4. KOC has shown he has little ability to truly change. He would have to throw out his playbook and start over–unlikely.
    5. Well-coached teams are starting to gel, flower, get into their groove. The Vikes are imploding. Everyone is pointing to everything except the main cause, which is KOC and his play calling.
    6. Nice guy, great locker room skills, excellent QB skills, do NOT mean you know how to build a cohesive offense that runs on simple plays that succeed. KOC has proven that over and over and over.
    7. No matter who they draft, no matter who they trade for, the problem will always be, unfortunately, at the core, which is KOC does not know what he is doing on offense.

  11. It’s weird, every time the Vikings hire a new coach, everyone thinks this time will be different because maybe this time that coach will listen and be different. Nope every coach we have ever hired is the same problem. Don’t matter old or young, hard headed, only listen to themselves and doesn’t change and doesn’t adjust at all

  12. Playoffs? playoffs? Playoffs? LMAO 🤣
We aint sniffing the playoffs this year. We should be 1-3 at this point. Barely beat a bad Bears team, beat a Bengals team without Burrow and lost to 2 average to above average teams.
Its gonna be a tough next few years, especially with barely any cap space. We blew our cash wad on 2 old ass defensive lineman, overpaid on a guard with a small sample size of good play, overpaid an old often concussed center. I get it, it was an all in bet for a depp playoff run/super bowl, but that bet isnt looking like its gonna pan out. Hock will be cut next year for sure, dude aint been the same since his ACL. Jefferson's prime years will be wasted on this constant carousel of QB's. Addison will want WR#1 money and will probably be traded this upcoming offseason. Nailor will test free agency and get paid elsewhere.
KOC should either give up playcalling to Phillips, or get fired and Flores should replace him.

  13. I was really hyped before the season and thought we'd have a contender quality team. Now as the field showed the reality I must say that I don't believe we can even make the Playoffs this season. Let alone the SB. But I keep my faith up and fingers crossed.
On another matter: we appreciate you guys, Pat. Keep up the good work.
