  1. I gotta admit, I heard them talk about how much they were planning to use Worthy in week 1.

But I absolutely did not expect him being out there to change the way the offense looked THAT MUCH.

Excited to see what dimension Rice opens up…

They did okay but I still think I need a running back

  2. Felt so good to finally run away from a team and win comfortably. Mahomes looked great, Kelce looked good, O-line was solid, WRs played well.

We still need a better run game though, that’s 3 of out 4 weeks our leading rusher was not a RB.

  3. I don’t think they can move off Butker with his contract, but he’s the only lingering issue right now. If he doesn’t get back to normalcy the Chiefs will have a real problem on their hands.

  4. I wonder if Veach is afraid to spend significant resources on a RB after the CEH pick didn’t work out. This was a good RB draft and he still waited until the 7th round to take one. It would be nice to trade for one before the deadline, but I don’t know if he’s going to prioritize that position.

  5. On to Duuuuvaaaallllll; honestly, they don’t scare me too much, given how we played yesterday, and Jax’s wins are against not good teams that turned the ball over a lot when they played them.

  6. All this talk about still needing a running back when Pacheco averaged 5 YPC yesterday and Hunt fulfilled his role as a short yardage back. The way this offense is set up with the talent they have in the WR room, they don’t need a signature back. They just need the RBs to occasionally keep the opponents defense honest enough to not sit in cover 2 the majority of the game. And that’s not even as necessary as it’s been in the past since now Worthy can get the kind of separation and him and Thornton can stretch the field enough that the whole offense can open up even without a bruising run game.

All that to say the roster is fine as is. Pacheco was running at 5 YPC and if the coaching staff would have given him more looks I bet he would have had a bigger game. They just didn’t need him to do that much because the passing game was finally working the way they had planned with Worthy back in the mix.

I still think Veach tries to add a RB before the trade deadline but it’s not going to be a marquee name like Achane or Breece Hall or someone similar. It’ll likely just be some kind of RB2 to add more depth to the room since Elijah Mitchell has been a disappointing healthy scratch all season. If we get someone to compliment Pacheco, let Hunt continue in short yardage and continue to develop Brashard Smith as a 3rd down back, then the RB room is everything it needs to be in an Andy Reid offense. Yesterday’s game proves there’s no need to panic and trade significant draft capital for a running back for a Chiefs team that isn’t *that* desperate for it

  7. Who’s ready for all of sports media to walk back their comments about the ravens in order to downplay how well the Chiefs played. It’s fine for *us* to be realistic and say that the Ravens were banged up big time and that obviously played a part in the game

But those talking heads who said even the depleted Ravens were a better team than us and would boat race us will now say “oh well they were banged up so it was obvious they’d lose”. And they’ll try and smudge the truth by saying Lamar went out as though the game wasn’t well in hand at that point

Regardless I’m happy we beat up on a bad team, we haven’t done that in years, seemingly.

  8. So yesterday Kareem did what I expect him to do and Isiah ran better & ran hard. You never have to worry about effort from Isiah.

I was really happy to see them give Brashard more touches. It’s not like we’re expecting superstar production. It’s just that this RB room desperately needs a little explosion and I think you can see Brashard brings that. He just has a little more juice being more nimble and more than anything, young.

That first ball he should have caught but at the same time it wasn’t a gimmie. That was a pretty bad ball from Pat being so far behind him. I think Romo put the blame on Brashard so who knows. He’s going to defend Pat but to me that was just a missed throw.

Brashard showed a little juice on that one catch that should have been a tackle for a few yards he turned into 17 with good effort.

I did think there was one run (I know I can’t believe he got a run) where he got tripped up at the line and dang it if that didn’t happen it looks like it goes for a good amount of yards.

If he continues to get touches, I’m pretty confident he will break a pretty sizable play at some point or another. Hope the coaches see it too an keep feeding him.

  9. I noticed last night, especially on that early series where Lamar had a couple delay of game penalties, that the stadium seemed VERY loud even on 1st and 2nd down. I was watching on TV, so that can be misleading because the network can choose to alter the crowd noise on the broadcast.

So, those of you who were there…was that a crowd-enduced delay like it looked on TV? Was the stadium announcer whipping people up even on early downs?

Part of me is kinda wondering if that’s why the old announcer resigned, because he didn’t want to be that guy who was whipping up the crowd constantly (and who knows the NFL might even have rules about that kind of thing)

  10. Gonna say something crazy.

If Xavier wouldn’t have gotten hurt in week 1 we’d be 4-0 right now.

Waking up Monday after a big win feels so good. Been a minute. Last Monday was nice, but this one feels different.

  11. My worries aren’t completely gone after last night. The run game is still not good, we have a penalty magnet at right tackle, the defense has a propensity to give up large plays and stay on the field, the offense still has playcalling issues, especially in the red zone, and Butker is in serious trouble with these misses.

However, I’m feeling a lot better about the rest of the season, especially with Rice coming back in two weeks. The pass game is elite again, Tyquan Thornton is the real deal and Brashard Smith is finally showing. The OL looks significantly improved! The defense just held one of the league’s most dynamic offenses, with 3 quarters of a healthy Lamar, to 13 points with two turnovers!

On top of that, with the Chargers and Colts finally losing, there aren’t many AFC teams that look like true Super Bowl contenders. It’s going to come down to Chiefs vs Bills in the playoffs again and we all know how that story plays out.

  12. Nohl Williams looked pretty good in the few snaps I saw him in. It’d be awesome if he developed into a great outside corner like JWat, so we could move McDuffie back to the slot where he’s most effective.

  13. Last night felt good but the thought of the Ravens coming in with as many injuries as they did is the big grain of salt. Really hope to see some consistency with the Jags game and hope to continue to see the inclusion of Thornton in the pass game. Great to see Worthy back in there and pulling defenders off for others to make plays.

Run game is still the run game and needs a lot of work. Hunts doing what he can and Pops got better than his average.. but there’s still little threat there. Get Smith in and get his feet wet. He’s got the speed and he’s out there to make plays.

  14. It’s weird that the two Monday Night Football games tonight are starting within an hour of each other, and the first one (Jets at Dolphins) starts at 6:15 Central. Guess I’m making a single thread for both games.

  15. I am glad Worthy played smart. He used speed, avoided contact, and intentionally went out of bounds to preserve himself.

  16. I am happy that Hollywood is doing well. Some of his plays are so slick – precision routes. I want to see Royals on the field too – I think he brings some of the same skills.

  17. The pass rush is going to be a major issue as the season continues. They may want to take a flier on someone like Jaelan Phillips and see if he can regain some of the juice he had two or three seasons ago. He is in a contract year and only 26.

  18. This is a hot take, I think we should bring CEH up from the practice squad and kick the tires.

Pacheco is cheeks, we have to try the other guys out

  19. San Diego losing was glorious. I don’t want to say he’s a future elite QB or anything… but the Giants are handling Dart perfectly. He reminds me a lot of early Josh, Lamar, or Jalen… athletic freak with an arm cannon, but nowhere near ready to execute a nuanced passing game that’s NFL ready. The Giants are trying to get him some successes doing his physical stuff with a few simplified pass plays to build his confidence. If they win a few games like this, great. But it looks like the goal is more long term.

As I said, he may not get there. But this is a much better approach than dumping him games and expecting him to immediately “get it.”
