VJ Edgecombe Just STOLE The Show… He COOKED Everyone! | Sixers Training Camp Day 2

Day two of Sixers training camp officially in the books. Today, we’ll give you everything you need to know from day two, including VJ Edgecomb absolutely stealing the show. We’ll take a look at some footage of his one-on- ons, also a final report on the Quinton Grimes situation, a couple big injury updates, and we’ll hear from Kelly Uber in terms of what he is working on this training camp. All that and more coming up right here on Philly Take with RB. But welcome into the show. I’m RB. Make sure you hit that thumbs up if you enjoy this content and hit that notification bell so you don’t miss any of the videos or live streams. We have a game this Thursday preseason and we will be live for that. So I am very pumped up. But we started off today with a injury report. Joel Embiid, Eric Gordon had planned off days. So eg getting some PTO in the training camp. Then you have Paul George and Trendan Watford who both had individual oncourt sessions again today. And just an update on Trenan Watford. Nickner Nner Nner says that he has been limited to individualized workouts, but he would hope and thinks that we are going to see him at practices at some point in Abu Dhabi. So hopefully we will get an uplose look at Trendan Watford very soon. We need to know who’s going to play power forward for this team. We need to know who’s going to emerge. And speaking of emerge, Nick Nurse also talked about the backup center position, saying that Adam Damona, Andre Drummond, Jabari Walker are the main guys in the mix to play the backup center as they are competing. He also mentioned Dominic Barlo and he says Andre Drummond is at least 20 pounds lighter than this time last year. So, Andre Drummond has been put in work. Guys are battling for positions. And uh also shout out to Jared McCain, right? Speaking of injuries, we know he’s down with the thumb injury, but love to see this guy smiling. Here he is at practice before the team leaves for Abu Dhabi. And uh it’s really hard to crack this guy’s spirit. So, I’m glad that he’s doing okay and I can’t wait to see him back out on the floor. But speaking of on the floor, we have to take a look at what VJ Edgecomb did today. We’ve all had a lot of discussions about what his role is going to look like, how is he going to fit with the team, will he start from day one. Well, based on what I saw today while I was getting tweet notifications while football’s on, we’re all paying attention to that. I might be even more excited about VJ Edgecomb. We’ll take a look on the other side. But first, a shout out to our sponsor of today’s video. Sleeper obviously is a juggernaut when it comes to the fantasy sports world. So, we have VJ Edgecomb here at the end of practice, one-on- ons, and this is where the real exciting stuff comes in. Obviously, it’s not like a game situation, but I mean, these guys are out here competing right in front of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxi, and we have VJ Edgecomb guarding a guy right up on the ball. Gives himself a little fist bump. And here he is against Tyrese Maxi. He’s going to dribble drive in, float it up with the right hand, and got it to sink. Joel’s hype about it. And VJ looks really pumped there to stop Tyrese Maxi. Now VJ Edgecomb this time on the other end controlling the ball. You know, how much can he handle the ball? Can he bring the ball up the floor? Will he be a secondary guard in the offensive rotation? Will he be a third guard? What will he be? Let’s take a look at some VJ Edgecomb on ball creation. He’s got Barlo jumping up, moving around, and then smacks down the shot. I mean, operating out of the high post here. VJ Edgecom making it look natural, making it look easy. He has that dog in him. And if we look at this clip here where VJ and Maxi start to get into it a little bit and VJ wants his chance at Maxi. VJ takes the ball and now Max is on and VJ is going to give him a little shove. Yo, he might have that dog mentality. He might be ready from day one. BJ working out of the high post again. Goes up and files it with the left hand. Oh, that is beautiful, man. BJ might even be more polished than we thought. Now again, I know it’s not a game situation. Even even in a presser today, they asked VJ what is the most surprising thing so far about the NBA and he says just how good everybody is. You know, like there’s a lot of talent. These guys are here for a reason. But let me tell you something, VJ is going to find a way to impact the game immediately from day one. We said that throughout the entire pre-draft process. Like this is the more ready now piece. Whether it’s offensively, defensively, he will find a way to impact the box score every single night. And then at the end here, we have some more Maxi, Edgecomb, and Dominic Barlo. There’s Tyrese Maxi. What a job there to create some space. Puts it up smack. I like these guys getting competitive, and I like the rookie being out there giving him some buckets. We saw that last year from Jared McCain as well. A lot of intensity, lot of competitiveness. That’s what you want to see in these type of practices. I thought right here VJ was going to smack that one against the backboard. Maxi tried to blow by and missed it. But uh VJ wanted that. He wanted it bad. Joel Embiid out there kind of coaching these guys up a little bit. Here’s the last play from Maxi against VJ. Maxi gives him a jab, pulls up a three and can’t hit it. VJ, great defense by him. Let me know what you think about VJ Edgecom based on the clips I just saw. I mean, if even if he can be a guy to help kind of balance out Joel Embiid’s game versus Tyrese Maxi and Paul George and whoever else, like VJ might need some touches, man. I know he can impact the game as a rebounder, defender, things like that. But, uh, he might be able to handle the ball as well. Give me your thoughts on that down below. And we have Kelly Ubé who talked about his priorities during training camp. He says, “I’m just trying to create more, trying to slow down, see the game before I go out there and make a play that I thought was right, but it’s not the right play. Yesterday, Kelly Ubé said that at some points he feels like he tries to do way too much and then it results in an error and he turns the ball over. Honestly, I don’t even think Kelly should have the ball in his hands a lot. I think he should be more of a spot up three and D guy almost in a way like what we thought VJ could be. I think Kelly can really just focus on one part of the game. When you try to give him too much responsibility, that’s when he becomes very inefficient and turnoverprone. the first couple months of Kelly Ubé when he came to the Sixers a few years ago. Like that is the type of UB they need to help optimize this team as a role player. And speaking of role player, we have Justin Edwards getting some shots up here on day two of camp. So, he’s knocking them down from the top of the arc. I like it. Justin Edwards putting in work. All these guys getting up some shots. Nick Nurse has emphasized wanting to shoot more three-pointers this year. And I would hope that the vibes continue to be high. They obviously need a lot of production from these young guys. And last but not least, speaking of the young guys, we have a final update on Quinton Grimes. Jake Fischer says that Quinton Grimes is not on the Sixers team flight for the preseason games this week in Abu Dhabi. Philly has declined the request from Grimes’s agent to push back the 10-1 deadline to accept his qualifying offer. So now the Sixers said, “All right, balls in our court. We’re going to make a move back.” Grimes and his camp wanted to push the deadline to 108. They wanted another week to see if they could figure out this contract, but now the Sixers are saying, “Nope. Nope. No way. It’s either accept the qualifying offer or this thing is going to continue.” So, that report about Grimes and his agent saying that the Sixers didn’t offer them anything formally a couple days ago is complete nonsense. It seems like the Sixers did make an offer. Now, it’s much lower than what Grimes wanted, but it feels like we’re heading towards the point where they do a one-year qualifying offer, like I predicted last month, and then Grimes can either do a balloon deal and wave his no trade clause, you know, and then get traded, or he stays with the team all year, and then next off season, he goes and bets on himself and tries to get more money in free agency, maybe a signing trade of some kind. So, that kind of seems to be where we’re at with the Grimes situation. And Jake Fischer says, “Short of agreeing to a one-year balloon payment, Grimes appears to be headed towards the $ 8.7 million qualifying option, the two sides remain far apart.” So, that’s kind of where we’re at with Quinton Grimes. It’s unfortunate that we have another situation like this. They asked Joel Embiid about it yesterday and he said, “Look, these guys have to do what’s best for them and their families, but it does suck that we have another situation like this going into, you know, the preseason and stuff like that.” So, we’ll see what happens, man. The Sixers should have a few more days, I believe, of training camp or at least a couple practices where we’ll get more footage, more intense footage, right? But at the end of the day, preseason coming up, they play two games in Abu Dhabi against the Knicks, and we’ll get to see these guys in real time and real action. So, give me your thoughts down below. How do you feel about the Sixers right now? How do you feel about VJ Edgecomb stealing the show today? Appreciate everybody for tapping in. Be sure to like, comment, and subscribe. That being said, I will catch you on the next one. Peace.

  1. Why would Kelly just be a spot up 3 and d guy. He's definitely most effective as a slasher and cutter. And that works on this team. His spot up 3 is added value. But I think it doesn't make sense to not allow him do what he's good at.

  2. I love that Vj footage, has that dawg in him. I could care less how Grimes feels, he has no leverage and have no problem with VJ getting those minutes especially after that video.
