Don Kelly led with grit, patience, and a vision for what Pirates Baseball can be.

[Music] How’s everybody doing? Did the drive-in today feel different for a Pittsburgh kid coming in managing the Pirates? I would be lying if I said it didn’t cuz it did. And just being from here, be humbled, you know, growing up in Mount Lebanon, going to Point Park, you know, and I’ve told people trick-or-treating at Jim Leland’s house and now to follow in his footsteps as the Pirates manager. Uh, just extremely humbling and and excited for the opportunity. You know, there’s a lot of times even as a bench coach that leaving the stadium and walking out and I’m one of the last guys and all the lights are off just seeing the city, you know, and being from here and seeing it lit up and how how special it is. And I think that, you know, growing up watching those teams of the ’90s and and I think that, you know, I dreamed of playing in the big leagues and I was blessed to be able to accomplish that and play play for a long time. Um, you know, and then to get into coaching and to be sitting here as a Pirates manager. Um, you know, yes, it’s a it’s a it was it was a dream and, you know, really humbled to be here.

  1. If Don is able to get this team at a competitive level, with the players Nutting has supplied, I will applaud him. I have been a Pirates fan for 50 of my 71 years, but the last 25 years showed me that ownership cares very little about being competitive, and now I just check the standings to see if they are out of last place in their division.
