I knew it was probably going to happen but absolutely dumbfounded how this clown still has a job.

  1. I would have gladly sacrificed having Don Kelley as manager to prevent this from happening. Awful news.

  2. He’s got the worst winning percentage of any GM in over 60 years across all of MLB. Let’s just hope Bob fires him before he botches the return when we inevitably trade Skenes in a couple years.

  3. think about being a serious baseball player and you end up in pittsburgh lmfao. fuck this unserious team

  4. Well I am glad that nothing has changed. I was worried for a bit that I was going to have to watch games or gasp actually go to one.

  5. Konnor Griffin and a good rotation is not going to make this team a playoff team

It’s amazing the leash Cherington has 7 years in now

  6. The worst thing about Bob nutting is somehow not that he is cheap, but that he is a deeply stupid man.

I’ve heard him say that he wants to make the pirates win, and I actually believe he does, but he is such a dipshit that he trusts conmen like Ben Cherrington to waste what little resources we have for baseball operations on random dumb shit like bringing 50 “performance coaches” to every away game.

  7. Super cool to know the 2026 Pirates are already completely dead. See everyone this time next year for the exact same conversation

  8. Looking forward to Pirates Fest 2026 when the fanbase gets to have it’s only public forum in front of BC. I’m sure Nutting won’t attend though.

  9. Beyond infuriating. Bob doesn’t give a single shit about this organization. He’s intentionally sabotaging it by keeping Ben. I don’t understand how MLB allows Bob to put zero effort into fielding a contender.

  10. The organization has essentially been tanking since 2019 and the farm system is still uninspiring for a team in rebuild mode for six years. Yet Ben gets to keep his job? Unreal

  11. This does give me hope that I can find a job where I can completely half-ass it to the point of being completely incompetent and still get paid.

  12. Travis Williams on the decision to bring back Ben Cherington:

“We felt at the end of the day, making a change at General Manager would set us back. That’s not what our fans expect, that’s not what we expect. We’re looking to make the playoffs in 2026 PERIOD full stop. So we didn’t want to veer from that and pushing it all in to make the playoffs in 2026.”

  13. Perfect, I was worried we would get a decent return for some of our arms this winter. Now I dont have to worry.

  14. I can’t believe they’re going to let him be in charge of a 7th off-season, draft, and trade deadline.

  15. It’s really hard being a fan of this organization.

The only reasoning behind this decision I can think of has to be that no one else showed interest in wanting the position.

    I knew I should’ve applied…

  16. What a joke of a franchise. This is a hard sign that Nutting could care less how the team performs.

  17. Hilarious anyone would think Nutting would get rid of him then pay someone else. Paying two GMs instead of one isn’t Nutting’s thing.

  18. Don’t think it’s hyperbole to say today is one of the worst days in Pirates history for the past 25 or so years.  First the Hiles article clearly shows that the organization is just as dumb and incompetent and unmotivated as we all think it is, in addition to confirming payroll will not increase at all next season. Then this move is so unfathomable yet expected that it confirms all the stuff that was in the article.  This is truly the day that all hope disappears – it’s gone.  Any Pirates fan that has any hope after today is just plain stupid, much like the Pirates owner and management.
