NHL Preseason Highlights | Penguins vs. Red Wings – September 29, 2025

The Red Wings will start with JT Comfort, Jonathan Bearren, and Carter Bayer, the 13th overall pick. He wears number 41 on the left wing. There’s more at Cider. St. Ivan lost it. John Leonard tried to take it away. Leonard’s got it. Lays one back for Cider. Save made by Jarry. Loose puck and into the pads. And Jarry will hold on. talked about on the opening of the show as you see this replay a moment ago. I’ll get back to that in a second. Tiger just trying to get it through a bunch of legs and hope to find the back of the net, but nothing there. Pittsburgh again with a lineup that there’s a lot of youngsters, a lot of people that’ll end up uh not on the roster once the season starts cuz we might want to come after him at the right time. Exactly. He played in the World Championships as this will be held by Jarry. Let’s listen in to the third period. Kane that got knocked away by Matt Dumba, number 24 in white, the veteran defenseman took out to Brinket. Played ahead for Ben Kindle, number 81, wearing the old number 81 of Phil Kessle. There’s a shot. He scores. He looked like Kessle there. Ben Kindle, the 11th overall pick last June. Makes it one- nothing Pittsburgh. I thought they were going to give that puck to him. It would go all break down from there, but they did not. And you see the right hand goes out. If you got him covered, it’s Pelica back there. And they don’t have him covered. And it looked like Gibson was surprised the puck went in the net. He comes from late. Two of them. It’s like a mini twoon-one. And the Brink’s trying to get back to cover him. He’s there, but not quite in position enough. And a pretty good shot. He cut. Get a pro try out. actually get a contract out of that to stick. It’s rare, but it happens. Austin Watson has done it the past few years with Tampa and with the Red Wings and then got extended. Here’s Gustin played back to the middle. Turn around by Shine and a save by Jarry. Oh, been watching as you mentioned him could be another guy that gets a longer look because back of the net and turning as Tommy Novak taken out by Pelica. Novak stayed with it. Knocked it toward the middle. Comes back here for Dunba. A wrist shot saved by John Gibson. So on for Brinket for wide by Ryan Graves Linder. Blocker stopped by Jarry. Carried back in by Hein. Testered by Casper. Over here for Quaven and again with room for Graves. A shot and a save by Gibson. They’re getting to know each other even more than they did last year with that circling and cycling. And they’re after Casper again. And he’s not going to Couldn’t get him in the lineup. Didn’t want to put him on waiverss, so he watched a lot. In comes Kendall, who was a lone goal in this game, but Patrick Kane just by a bit. Maybe if Kane were there, he would have lasted longer as head coach. Maybe would have helped. Sorry. They are tough. They’d rather not. They psychologically all summer they’re worried about us into the slot. Saved there by Gibson and he’ll hold on in the blue. The memories that will never lose, which is the good part of it all. He was an icon here in Detroit. And when it came to Q ratings, which people who do you like on that channel, channel 50? Ray Lane. Of all the celebrities on that place, Railen was at the top of the list. Way to go, big boy. Yeah, I miss you. Into the slot, it came and a bouncing puck that Tommy Novak just couldn’t get to settle down in the pipeline and still top picks in the draft. Plenty of them. Gossison back for Kane. [Applause] college career with Northern Michigan. Four seasons there. A save made by Gibson. [Applause] Gusen across for Hall coming out to stop that in traffic was Tristan Jarry. [Applause] At center for Novak. looked for the return feed. Played it back and they bang it in. Two nothing Penguins on a bouncing puck that found its way past John Gibson on the far side. Still don’t have 10 shots on goal unofficially, but wow, that one Oh, he got a stick on it at the last second. It looks like on the outside of Gibson’s pad off the leg right there. Yeah. That’s what you got to do when you drive the net like that. Did have 18 goals two seasons ago. Injured last season. Just 22 points for Novak. But again, Tommy trying to find some folks over skated by William Wender. Nearly coughed up at center. And the Penguins will regroup here. Back in for Kvenan toward the goal. And a big stop there by Gibson. What a pass. Local kid, Avery Hayes from Westland. Well, you know, he wanted that to go through. Look at that beautiful floating pass right there. Just out of the reach of Cider as Kindle will go off in a change. Coming on is Fabri for Pittsburgh. Knocked it down. Fabre’s got it. Sharp angle cut off by Gibson. When Patrick came, we know he likes to dish. when he’s got the puck there. Watch for the shot. It is deadly. We will Mike, thank you for that. There was a shot from Axel Sandy. Remember when he started or for that matter Steve? Sure. I think Ederman had 39 goals if I’m not mistaken with that ability. 121 of the are usually three steps ahead of everybody else. And that’s the reason they’re so darn good. Power play. 11 chance to get within one. Not many shots in this game with seven and a half to go in the second. There it is for Kane. 20 goals in a season. 17 times for Patrick Kane. Number one among US born players. Kane digging forward again to the far side for Axel. Sandine Pelica. De Brinket coming over down low. Casper Kane. There it is. What the heck did that hit? I think Jar got a piece and maybe off the pipe. Quite a setup. Sure was. Look at that again. [Applause] Into the glove of Jarry. Back for Gustoson. Blocker stopped. Jarry Bergrren lanced high off the glass. Picked up by Novak. Point shot saved Gibson. Patilla let that go. [Applause] Good play by Hall and Bruce Gates. Comes back for Alexia now for Patella. Deflected wide. With it for the Penguins for Patella into the slot. Knocked down. Went right through to Gibson. is he may see some time here in Detroit at some time this season. Third period underway’s got to know that he’s there and he’s got to protect himself. Came back into the slot. Avery good pass across for Ben Kindle. Tied up by Mitchell. He got support there from Casper. Here’s Danton Heinen. Yeah, they’re winning the puck battles. The Penguins are Novak for Pittsburgh for Hollander. Picked up by Marco Casper. Casper gets the return feed and out the goal post. Set up nicely by Kane. Philip Hollander for the Penguin. Stopped at center by Sandine Pelica. Matt Dumbo over Skated, but the glass was his friend there. And it goes for Kendall. Right in. Save made by Gibson. And here again, twoon-one. Another really good scoring chance by Pittsburgh. Wings have high scoring games with usually the winning team scoring six more often than not of late. Yeah. [Applause] Fired in by Branzik. Negardan missed it. Comes back for Hall. Move to Mitchell. Saved by Jarry. Knocked down by Mitchell again. Ian Mitchell hangs on to it. Put it right in front of the net. They score. Sign. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Well, for the one of the few times Detroit’s been left alone in front of the goalender [Music] and Shine puts it home. Nicely done. Pittsburgh hasn’t had many as the Pittsburgh Penguins two consecutive games defeat the Red Wings winning here two to one. [Music]

Tristan Jarry turned aside 21 of 22 shots and Tommy Novak potted the eventual game-winner in the second period as the Pittsburgh Penguins edged the Detroit Red Wings 2-1.
