Paul Maurice, Florida Panthers: Postgame After OT Preseason Win v Carolina Hurricanes

Well, we we saw some forward motion in especially the young players that are just turning pros understanding of basic routes. And when I say basic, I don’t mean that that it’s simple. It’s a big change for these guys. So, the foundational stuff of what we want to do. Um, they’re getting better at it. You know, Sachin, you know, is a young player turning pro and I thought that part of his game was pretty good. So, and then you’re still just you’re you had some of these guys, you’ve seen them play hockey for 10 days. So just seeing them how quick they can pick up the stuff that we’re trying to get to them. We talked a little about opportunity for the big guys, but for other guys like Jack, what is the opportunity here for him with these injuries and a guy trying to make the lineup? Well, I mean turning pro is is a big step, right? So we’re talking about Divine or SA. Well, he’s in that mix and um but again for him, all three of those players, Tyler Mott’s been injured and uh we got, you know, Noah Greger, all three of them, it’s a brand new system for him, brand new style of play. We think they can all play it. It always feels good. If you you’re applying for a job, you know, you you get a couple of goals in the game, it feels good. So confidence maybe more than anything else, they’ll hit the ice a little lighter tomorrow. So they’re they’re having good interviews is what you’re saying. Yeah, they’ve done good. They’ve done well. Yeah. Speaking of confidence, just what do you think of Bob tonight? I didn’t even watch Bob tonight. I mean, so what Sergey was doing tonight really had nothing to do with what’s on the ice. He’s got to get back into that rhythm and routine of prepping for a game. He’s elite at that preparation. wouldn’t if if he had let in three, I wouldn’t have noticed, right? It wouldn’t have phased me, but he looked like he had done that. He’s far enough along in his preparations. So, goalenders, right, they get their time off in the summer, but more than any player on the ice, the they have to be mentally right to play a full 60 minutes. The other, you know, veteran guys in the NHL, they take a few shifts, they take a few shifts off, they’re getting their legs and their timing, but they don’t have to be right. The goalender is a completely unforgiving position and the hardest kind of muscle to rework for those guys is the brain, but he’s elite at that. So, he had did his routine. He did his normal day. He put all the time in. He’s prepped and he was really good. Sandis, one of the young guys second time second time in camp. Just what’s standing out to you about him? Obviously, I know he had the injury at the start of camp, but yeah, stand out about his game. Well, there’s a there’s a physical ability to get up the ice. He can move, get get the puck off his stick, on and off his stick on that goal really well. We’ve got some kind of guys that got some size to him that can skate a little bit. They just need pro time and I’ve been happy with this camp. He looks different for sure this year. Each year he’s a little more comfortable with what he’s doing. You’re starting to see the physical strength coming. So, he had a good night tonight. How important is tomorrow for some of these kids that playing backtobacks against, you know, some NHL competition or, you know, something that caliber like push through? It’s important. It’s important for their experience. Backtoback nights at a higher level, right? What what goes first? If it’s your legs, I’m not really worried about if it’s your lungs. But if your brain goes, that’s that’s the first thing you you’ve got to learn to make the right play when you’re a little fatigued, you’re a little tired on backto back, a little faster game. Can your brain stay in it? Right? They’re all going to get bigger, stronger, faster. They’ll read plays, but if they can mentally stay in the game when they’re a little fatigue, that would be a good
