Dennis Schroder On Choosing Sacramento and the Dog Mentality

if you get stops, you know, we all won. Play with pace, share the ball. Um I think that type of style of basketball is going to um be fun for everyone. Uh everybody’s touching the ball, everybody’s shooting it, we going for offensive rebounds, you know, it’s I think it’s fun, uh that way. And uh to have so many weapons, you know, on the right side, left side, on the block, uh people who shooting threes, um it’s just uh great for me. Makes my job easier, I believe. and uh if we commit uh on winning basketball, I think we’re going to be really really really great. Is that I assume what attracted you here? And also the role that the Kings were willing to offer you. Is that what attracted you to Sacramento? Of course. Um first off the the the guys, the players, but then the coaching staff, Doug Christie, uh BJ Armstrong, Scott Perry in the front office. Um I think that was uh the main reason why I uh came to Sacramento. But then um for them to prioritize me and say, “Hey, we need a point guard who, you know, bring that dog mentality.” Um that meant uh a lot to me. You know, Dennis, that’s the second time during this interview you brought up that dog mentality. I asked you earlier about it, too. You know, explain where that’s come from. You know, we see you out there, we see the competitor, but growing up, where did that come from, that side of you? Yeah, I mean, uh, it was it was tough, uh, back in Germany, you know, uh, being being a black kid in Germany, um, hearing all these racist comments. Um, you know, um, but at the end of the day, I think I took it as motivation, try to, um, you know, u, make a name for myself, uh, and for my family. And, um, yeah, that’s the motivation and I think that’s the dedication I have to this game. um because it wasn’t it wasn’t nice all the time. But um yeah, I think that’s kind of why it happened. But I always wanted to win. I always had a competitive spirit um growing up. It don’t matter if it was basketball, soccer, pingpong, playing cards, I always had that competitive uh spirit and nature. And um yeah, I want to bring it

  1. True point guard yes, starter, not. There’s a reason this is his 9th team in 11 years. Come on be real, we could have done better. We are headed to a 28-30 win season if we are lucky with him at the helm. I lost respect for him after his stupid comments after being traded to Detroit last year. He said he was a slave. My man, you freaking make Millions of $$$$$. Terrible.

  2. Although this guy played for a bunch of teams, can't really hate on his grind. As a kings fan, I really hope he finds the lasting joy here and becomes that dog.
