MEDIA DAY 2025 – Brandon Miller Media Availability
Brandon, I’m sure today is a long time coming for you personally coming back from the wrist wrist injury. Uh Charles and Jeff spoke a little bit about some of the off the court stuff that you’ve been doing in terms of leadership, but just overall what are your emotions right now kind of getting ready for camp and kind of as I’m sure you know had this uh time of year targeted since January, February time. I think right now I’m just more excited than anything. Uh you know, we got a new group coming in. um you know, some some added some added pieces to to the to the group. Um so I I would just say I’m more excited than anything just to get back out there and you know, compete with my teammates. Um and just, you know, work work hard with them every day and get better. Brandon, how are you physically? I know that uh either Charles or Jeff said that you’re going to have to wear some tape on the on the wrist to kind of from a preventative standpoint. What kind of an adjustment will that be and and and how have you felt that that rehab go? Definitely. Uh, I’ve been practicing with, you know, wrist tape on. Um, I taped my wrist in high school. Um, so I think I I don’t think that would be the problem. Um, I think the confidence, you know, it will it will eventually come and, you know, grow as the season goes. Um, but I think that’s the the really the main piece is just confidence, building the confidence back up and, you know, with catching myself with falling. Um, I would say that’s really it. A lot of guys have said that if they have a ramp up to playing and then they suffer an injury setback, that time away allows you to gleam things you might not have necessarily seen when you’re on the floor. What are some of the things that you took from your time observing the Hornets and observing even stuff about your game that you might have been able to see when not playing on the floor? Uh, I would say the main piece just, you know, when I took the time out, um, I would say I watched a lot of film, uh, with my teammates. Um, I think one of one of the pieces that we kind of put into play today is just playing faster. Um, I think, you know, if we run and get out, I think that’s where where we’re at our best. I think just, you know, continue to do the things that we’re that we’re good at. Um, you know, it’s not always going to be fast, but I think we just, you know, find ways to, you know, make a make a great play. What up, Rod? What up, Rod? What up, Rod? Getting back on the court, man. Uh, what’s it been like for you to actually uh get back and play what you like doing and and how much has this off seasonason for you helped you grown to become a better player, would you say? Definitely. Uh, you know, it’s been a long off season. Um, you know, I feel like it started kind of early sadly. Um, but I think it just kind of, you know, built the person who I am today. Um, as far as just strength, uh, mentally. Um, and, you know, just building those new bonds with my teammates while I’m out. Um, just getting closer with them. I think that’s going to, you know, help everybody um, including the staff um, for the time when the time comes. And then coach mentioned leadership uh, for you. Um, what about that and how much have you tried to take on a leadership role and even looking at film with NSJ and stuff like that? How much has that been something you look forward to doing and continue to do here with the team? Definitely. I think just, you know, I think my rookie year I was, you know, leading with action. Um, you know, last year I kind of, you know, dealing with the injury. I think it was, you know, perfect just to take time to, you know, lead with, you know, communication. Um, and then I think this year, you know, with me being back on the court, just, you know, putting everything together. So, I think just, you know, with the time being out, I think it’s going to I think it’s created a great overall leader. Um, and I think everybody will appreciate it. Um, we’re back playing. Hi, Brandon. Hi. You brought your camp from Nashville to Charlotte this year. What inspired you and what’s been the most rewarding part? One more time. I said you brought your camp from Nashville to Charlotte this year. What’s been like the most rewarding part and what inspired you? Uh, I think the most rewarding part is just having all the kids come out having fun. Um, you know, basketball, feel like basketball is always a serious game. You have to win. Um, I think, you know, I did this camp just to, you know, let kids have fun and just have the the the the NBA presence around them, just giving them advice. Uh, Mugsy Bose was here. Um, you know, just to, you know, mentor kids as far as, you know, heart. Um, and it’s not about, you know, size. It’s more heart, more heart than anything. So, just, you know, building that bond with, you know, kids, different kids, making the kids smile. I think that’s all I can ask for. Brandon, your your efficiency and your um frequency from the mid-range and your rookie season was was in the upper tier. Last year, kind of went by the wayside and your three-point attempts went up. And Charles Lee mentioned this uh when he’s when he was in here just a second ago. Do you want that shot to be a part of your game or has the conversation shifted to where it needs to fit Charles Lee’s system to attempt more from behind the ark? Um, I would say just, you know, just finding a great shot each possession. Uh, whether it’s a three or two. Um, I think just, you know, having always having a good possession. You can’t waste a possession in in NBA because it goes a long way in the whole game. Um, so I would just say don’t waste any possession. It doesn’t matter three or two. Brandon, uh, I know last year you went out with the injury. How would you assess so far your first two seasons and what are you expecting from yourself this year to take yourself up to the next level? Um, I think this year is just, you know, like I said, building new new teammate, new bondings with the teammates, uh, with our new pieces. Um, you know, just kind of helping them figure out what what they need to do. Uh, keeping them in the right places. Um, I think that’s going to, you know, elevate everybody on the team instead of just me. Um, and you know, that’s that’s what we’re looking to do is make everybody better. So, part of the team basically more than individual expectations is what you’re talking about, helping everyone be better. Say it again. You’re trying to help everyone be better rather than you’re talking about specific expectations for yourself. Yes, sir. I feel like my teammates are going to make me better. uh you know it’s only you know I can put the I can put in the work um you know when nobody’s watching but I think when the when the when the times matter my teammates going to you know help us all come together um and I’m going to do the same and just you know lead them on um and always be there for them. You developed a nice chemistry with Grant Williams and some screening actions over the last year and a half. How excited are you to get back on the floor alongside him? And is there anybody on the team now that you feel like you’ve developed a good chemistry with in those sorts of actions? You know, I’m looking forward to playing with, you know, everybody, including new pieces. Um, you know, Khan, he’s going to be, you know, great for us, a great shooter. Um, Liam, of course, Ryan, you know, all the guys. Um, so it’s just not about, you know, one person. I think it’s a a team effort here. Um, you know, everybody’s going to do everything to get it done. Charles was just saying he sees he described it as a new love for the game in you that he’s seeing. Would you agree with that? Can you just kind of speak more broadly about how your view of playing again maybe has changed after what you went through? Definitely. You know, just sitting out all this time uh missing the game, you know, not not being able to, you know, go out there and, you know, work with your teammates um you know, your brothers, the people you see every day. I think it’s kind of, you know, you get down sometimes, but, you know, your teammates are going to be there to, you know, pick you right back up. Um, and now that I’m back, I get to, you know, contribute with my teammates and just go out there and play hard as we can. What’s up, Brandon? I’m with over. How you doing? Good. Can you blind rank these NBA rappers for me? One through five. LeAngelo Ball. Say it again. What What am I doing? Can you blind rank these NBA rappers for me? Like them? Yeah. Yeah. So, I’m gonna say five names and you’re just gonna put them in order. I got you. LiAngelo ball 10. It’s one through five. One through five. Five. Five being the highest or lowest? Five is the lowest. All right. Three. Uh, three. Okay. KD. Uh, four. Miles Bridges. One. Lonzo. Uh, did I already use four? Did N. No, you didn’t. You have four and two left. Four. Okay. Uh, Shaq. So, he’s got to be two. Never mind. Go back. Put two and then Shaq. Four. Okay. I appreciate you. Appreciate it. Uh, Brandon, we saw you working on a lot of left-handed passes and warm-ups this past year when you were out. Is that something we could see added to your game this year? And how, I guess, fun was that? And what was a tough time? Definitely. Uh, you know, a lot of left-hand um, you know, dribbling, uh, finishing, passing, of course. Um, I think you, you know, need everything just to contribute at this high level. Um, so I think, you know, just taking the time out working on my left, um, you know, being more dominant with the left, um, in workouts, I think it’s going to, you know, help me in the future. Um, it’s going to, you know, create great habits. Appreciate it.
