  1. > According to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, Vitello and San Francisco President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey may have already met.

  2. This would be a really interesting pickup

then again he might just be a candidate for Drew Gilbert Handler

  3. Typically you don’t go from college coaching direct to the MLB

It’s not impossible but that’s a big gap to overcome in overall player ages, development and regressions, technology and scope

  4. In Buster I trust.

Regardless of who he chooses, I hope they’re someone who can be the next “decade-plus fixture” at the helm like Bochy and Dusty were. A young, smart, talented guy with a unique background for an MLB manager is intriguing.

Edit to add: *hits pipe* Maybe they’ll add him as a bench coach for a year or two with the understanding that he will inherit the position. And who would he be the bench coach for during that year or two? Bruce Bochy.

*reloads pipe and hits it harder* And maybe Buster will let me hang out with the team and become the team’s official Reddit liaison, a position that pays six figures and allows me to travel with the team and become best friends with Jung Hoo Lee.

  5. I’m on board with whoever Buster picks. He is the perfect person for this job because it is 100% clear he wants to win. He took this job for a reason. He wants this franchise back to it’s Championship form. and I think he’s done a great job so far. The collapse was not his fault. I think he constructed the roster ok, the team just fell off a cliff, climbed back briefly, and then slid back down the cliff.

  6. Guhhhhhh now I’m all about this move. Still love Yadi, but cardinals fans deserve to have him there. I feel like the biggest deficit in the organization is scouting and development, which makes him a perfect choice. Obviously a big learning curve dealing with pro egos instead of hopeful hungry children, but just imagine what he’ll get out of Gilbert!!!

  7. As a Vol, I hope not. He’s hopefully committed to what he’s built at Tennessee. What he’s done already is enough to make him a Vols legend but this feels like just the beginning

  8. Based on how much the barstool sports SEC bro crowd is freaking out about him potentially coming here, I’d say this could be a solid pickup for manager

  9. This is a guy with zero professional playing or coaching experience. That’s a BIG jump, and would be a really outside the box choice.

  10. I am down as fuck for this.

We need fresh blood and new ideas in this organization so badly, and this dude seems like the perfect person to do it.

  11. I gave Kapler and Melvin a fair shot. I’ve heard his name being tossed around, but don’t know anything about him. Interesting..

  12. Sounds fun, but my gut tells me no. It’s like when Nick Saban took the Miami Dolphins job and fell flat in his face. It’s a completely different game.

  13. it is a gamble, but his ability to relate and get the most out of young players, to set a winning attitude, and handling of personalities are all positives. It would bring far more anticipation to the season than another reappointment of the old guard. The core of Devers, Chapman, and Adames, know who they are, thus the value is in a coach who can handle younger players like Lee, Ramos, Schmitt, and Eldridge. It is that unit that has to be inspired and coached, amd a younger more relatable coach would be of value.

  14. Don’t know him but love the idea with NOT going with an old ass man who has managed multiple clubs for many many years.

  15. I dunno about this. I think instead of a fresh young mind we should hire a crusty old retread way past his prime. What’s LaRussa up to?

  16. Link Jarrett is another name I was wondering about as far as D1 collegiate  coaches go. He is the head coach at Posey’s alma mater although he came in as coach for the Seminoles long after Posey’s time there.

  17. Awesome to see so many Vols in here. It would be a crazy jump, but Vitello is exactly the type of young talent we need. Seems like a no brainer.
