FULL BOTTOM 9th: Detroit Tigers take Game 1 of the AL Wild Card 🐯 (Nail biter in Cleveland!!)

Jose Ramirez will lead off with Cleveland down by a run heading to the bottom of the ninth. Detroit scored first in the first inning. A two out hit and an air in right field and Torperson brought in the run. Guardians tied it with that play at the plate that was overturned on Hel Martinez. They had two infield singles in the inning. Riley Green let off the seventh with a double. Moved up on a error charged to Noel and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Mckitstry. That was in the seventh. Haven’t seen very many hard hit balls. It’s been a well pitched game on both sides. and Will Vest trying to save it for Trick Scooble. Here’s Ramirez 0 for two in the walk. All of that against Scooble. He takes a strike from Vest. Who else would you want up right now? Your best hitter, future Hall of Famer to come through in the ninth. outside. Vest shared the closing duties late in the year with Kyle Finnean. Best 23 saves this year. Hit hard up the middle. Diving stopped by Bayz and the throw gets away from Torlson on his way to second. Now hit the third. Ramirez and he’s going to make it. Standing up. We kind of figured the big guy would come up. What a great play first off by Javias. I think he had enough time to stand up and throw. Hard hit ball right back up the middle smelling that single and the ball just got away off the glove there of Torqulson and he is off to the races. He knew he was getting to third base right when that ball got away. Wow, what a huge turn of events. The infield in George Valero, left-handed hitter is up to bat for Jonathan Rodriguez. Two to one Detroit. the tying run at third for the Guardians and a swing and a miss and a pitch down and in the last place scored a single for Ramirez and then an error on Bayz allowing Jose to get to third. The ball up and away. The young Valera right here a little anxious at the first pitch. Got the second one here. Just seeing it here. What a moment for this young man. Holy cow. Only 16 games in the regular season with the Guardians slashing, swinging a miss, had a slider. Valeri had only 41 at bats, nine hits, two of them homers. He did go two for three as a pinch hitter. Just about everybody on their feet all the way around Progressive Field. Valera asked for time and was granted it. He has a very big hole on the left side of the infield. McKenstry close to the bag. Bayz the shorts stop playing up the middle. Out of play. Oh, he got a hit. A pitch to hit right there too after seeing all those sliders. Got a fast ball to hit. Couldn’t put in play. called up for his major league debut on September 1st after eight years in the minors. Really good take right there. He swung at that one in the first pitch. Now he saw the slider vest two pitch. He struck him out. Nasty change up. That’s the equalizer. I know about his slider and his fast ball, but look at this change up. Looks like a heater coming out of the hands. Falls off the zone. What a comeback by Vest to get that first out. Still not out of the woods yet. There’s Manzardo to the infield. Still in. He takes the strike. He’s single to right in the second. Like you said before, huge hole in that left side. Cleveland has four hits. Menardo is the only one that left the infield. Swinging a foul back to the screen. Again, they’re getting that one fast ball and they’re not hitting it. If you’re fast, you should be pretty happy right now knowing that you have that slider in your back pocket. You could throw anytime. Hoping for another strike out, which would be enormous. A chopper back to the mound. They have Ramirez in a rundown. This tags him out for the second out of the ninth inning. And Manzardo is safe at first on a fielders’s choice. [Music] So Cleveland had a runner at third with nobody out. Ramirez the tying run there here in the bottom of the ninth. Now it’s a runner at first and two outs. And he went back with the change up too. Faked to third. That was an easy play for him. Oh man, the pressure on both sides. and best finding a way to do it like he’s done it all year. CJ Cayas is going to hit Ferrarius. What a change of events in this game. No way anybody thought he was not going to get that run in and he’s finding a way to do it. Cus got into 44 games in the regular season. swings and pops it up shallow left. Bayz out. He makes the catch. His error proves not to be costly and the Detroit Tigers take game one of this American League wildard series. Two to one. [Applause] I mean, talk about a pitching performance, too. TKO coming up big time with 14 strikeouts. Real fastest doing what he does best. Runner on third base and Ramirez and he finds a way to get out of it with a strike out. And watch the excitement. Then he gets the ground out and then he gets a pop out. My goodness, you got to be excited after that one. And how important is game one in the wildard series in this best of three format? the previous four editions. The game one winner took 18 of the 20 series. That’s 90% of the time. The Guardians came in rolling. The Tigers reeling, but AJ Hinch said we start a new and they start with a win in this postseason. Here’s Taylor McGregor. Thank you. Here with Will Vest. Ramirez gets all the way to third base. How does that impact the way you have to attack the hitters the rest of the way? Just got to make pitches one pitch by one pitch. Uh, you know, just, uh, Ding did a great job back there. Stuck with him, stuck with the plan. Uh, and just execute pitch by pitch. That chopper up the middle by Manarder. You were able to read Ramirez. What was going through your mind? Running back to third. Uh, got to get him off the base. Uh, that guy’s a he’s a playmaker. Um, fast and uh, just need to get him out. We know Turk Scubble is the best pitcher in the American League. from your perspective, what made him so dominant today in the world? Your words. Uh, he’s built for the moment. Uh, got out there and competed. That’s what he says he likes to do. You know, win or lose, that’s all we can do. Uh, that’s why we love this game to get out there, compete, and uh, see what happens. Oh, Jesus. It’s hardly

Will Vest comes in to relieve Tarik Skubal and makes three HUGE outs, putting an end to a Guardians’ threat and helps give the Tigers Game 1 of the AL Wild Card.

  1. Finally, Cleveland gets some of their own medicine. So tired of seeing this weak hitting team pullout wins without even hitting the ball out of the infield! Let's GO TIGERS !!!!

  2. Typical Tigers' type win over the Guardians. Can never beat them comfortably, has to be a nail biter. Finish them off tomorrow, don't give them any life.

  3. This was about managing. You have a runner on 3rd with no outs Why not do a suicide squeeze to get the runner home? You have two opportunities to bunt. Not only is this on the manager, but it's on the base runner who was on 3rd as well for sloppy Base running.

  4. Great Job Tigers!! Always a nail biter against Cleveland!! Way to go for both teams representing the Central Division. Another nail biter tomorrow. Kudos to both managers!! Great Stuff!!⚾️⚾️

  5. I think if Ramirez kept running home full speed on contact he would have made it! Would have been a tough play on the tag. No sense in stopping, you're definitely going to be out.

  6. Nothing wrong with Baez's throw. Tork should have had it. But what a way to erase the third base threat! Fantastic pitching but Cleveland will come out swinging in the next one. Cleveland looks a bit off-balance and hopefully Detroit will keep them off-balance for the series but we can be sure Cleveland is going to mount a charge. Two good teams here. If Cleveland should win this series, I will pull for them the rest of the way.
