THE HERD | Colin Cowherd PRAISES Caleb Williams For GROWING With Chicago Bears | NFL
Good news on the Chicago Bears. They beat the Raiders. Here is the good news. If you go to the first four weeks of last year and in the first four games of this year, for the last two seasons just with Caleb Williams, this year he’s giving you a touchdown more a game, he’s giving you a much better third down percentage and throwing for about 375 yards more per game. So clearly Caleb Williams has better coaching and is more effective. It’s real progress. He’s making hard throws. He’s making them over the middle of the field. Uh he feels like on every play he could break it with his legs. He’s taken fewer sacks. There is no question he makes hard throws and he had Cole KT drop one yesterday. Um he and Roma Dunay absolutely feel like this is going to last a while. Um, now penalties are a huge issue. They had a horrible false start in a fourth and one. Pre- snap operations, pre- snap operations need a lot of work. But Caleb Williams last year at this time to this year at this time, it’s working much better. It’s not perfect. It’s kind of sloppy. I mean, they got three picks on Gino Smith and could have easily lost. So, success is not a straight line, but this is Chicago. They can’t get quarterback, right? Last season, they were finding way to to lose. They lost on a Hail Mary last year. They lost on a block field goal last year. They were three and seven and one score games last year. Uh time running out, lousy clock management. They were just a mess. This year, yesterday, they’re on the road. They can’t block Max Crosby. They had crucial drops. They had eight penalties and they won. And that we said this year is not about winning and losing. Last year they were two and two. This year they’re two and two through four games. It totally feels different. You got the right coach. Kayla’s moving in the right direction. The operations is ugly. But I I I don’t think these guys are a perfect fit. The coach is very much about structure. The quarterback likes to kind of do his own thing more than I’d like, but he’s a huge talent. So, I said in preseason, stop looking at the wins and losses. What will it feel like? It feels like, oh, this is way better. This is like this thing could work. I mean, Drake May has officially popped. Jaden Daniels popped really quick. Bo Nicks outside of September looks like it works. Michael Pennix was horrible last weekend. He was pretty good yesterday. So, it’s stages. Success is not a straight line. And I don’t think these guys are the perfect mix. One guy’s a structure guy, the other guy’s kind of good off platform and moving, but you can see you’re getting a touchdown more a game from 33% on third down to 45%. That’s a real improvement. They were they were giving you 250 yards of offense last year. It’s closer to 330 yards this year. Roma Dunay and Caleb, that’s going to work. The run game’s what it was. I think the O line’s better, but the run game is what it is. They could not block Max Crosby, who outside of Miles Garrett’s, my favorite defensive player in the league. But they block a field goal and win. And here’s what Ben Johnson told Caleb before the game-winning drive. It’s easy to get uh frustrated. Um but we we don’t panic. We just don’t. That’s that’s not who we are and that’s not what we do. I remember talking to Caleb before he took the field. I said, “This is this is what you’re built for. These are the moments that that he thrives in the most. I think that’s that’s really been the story of his life to be honest with you. And and uh I know he came through for us in a big way. Yeah. Listen, this was always going to be a team that needs to bake. You have a young quarterback and a brand new first time head coach. This was never going to be a thing where you can just hit the ground running and never look back. It It doesn’t work that way with experienced coaches and experienced quarterbacks. It’s going to take some time, especially when Ben Johnson and this offense, he’s he’s rebuilding this offense and rebuilding his quarterback. Um, but I got a lot more I want to say this about this. But before we get started, please Chicago Bears fans, please do consider subscribing and watching the full length of this video as it is the best way to help support the growth of this channel. Um, I’m looking to build something truly truly special. I want to build something that absolutely feels part of the real sports talk community and it starts with you all. When you guys subscribe and you watch the full length of video, this is what happens. This is what happens. We literally go straight vertical. And I believe that we can genuinely start an avalanche that we can actually build something that is legitimately comparable to what we see out there on TV and YouTube and anyone anywhere else. And I want to just build an absolutely awesome community. And I’ve been doing this now. I’ve made thousands and thousands of videos. And I’ve just I’ve reached the point now where I’m like, I want to do big things. I want to build a community that is truly special, that is truly a force to be reckoned with. And I believe we can do it. I really really really believe we can do it. When I saw this response uh last last week, I’m like, guys, this this is this is the power that you all have. So, please, please, please, it’s zero cost. I’m not asking uh for you to download an app. I’m not asking you to to use my coupon code to buy these headphones or this shirt. It’s just watch the video and subscribe. It’s the best way to support this channel so we can really continue to build something absolutely amazing here. But with all that said, um listen, I had this aha moment about Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears uh team right now. Right now, Caleb Williams is Dak Prescott. And that’s a great place to be in in year two. I’m not telling you that his ceiling is Dak Prescott. I’m not telling you that he’s going to be Dak Prescott, but Dak Prescott’s a really, really good quarterback. Listen, Dak Prescott hasn’t won the Super Bowl. He hasn’t stepped up huge in playoff moments, but he can get in a wild back and forth game against the Green Bay Packers and hang 40. He can he can bring down his team to to a gamewinning touchdown or game tying touchdown or or uh you know take the lead in overtime, you know, whatever it may be. He’s he can do that, but he also and he has some unbelievable moment, some unbelievable throws. And then other times you’re like, “Oh, that was a bad throw. Oh, that was inaccurate. That was not good.” And that’s what Caleb Williams is right now, where he shows you moments of greatness when you go, “Whoa, that special.” And then you see plenty of other moments when you’re like, “Ah, that that was not so nice.” And there’s still like an uncomfortableness to Caleb’s game. There’s still this this this you could just see he’s like extra sped up. There’s just there’s just not a calmness to his game just yet. And I think that’s understandable. It’s year two and he’s got the entire world on his shoulders. Um, I mean, this season he’s really playing for his job because if he struggles this season and the Bears lose and this that like there’ll be real conversations of like we’re not, you know, I don’t know, you’re not guaranteed to start year three. He’s not guaranteed to finish out this season. You know, year one, you’re like, okay, you can be pretty bad as a rookie, especially first overall. Um, and you’ll get a lot of the benefit of the doubt. Caleb Williams was not necessarily going to, you know, get a ton of the benefit of the doubt this season. So, there’s been an absolute insane amount of pressure. Um, I think the one interception was just bad luck. It was one of those fluky, right? Tipped up in the air and then gets caught. Like those things are th those those can be tough. Um, especially because uh I I think it’s worse in a moment when the quarterback’s trying to do too much and he’s trying to scramble a little bit and then he’s just makes kind of like a crazy throw that then gets tipped and intercepted. Then I can put that more on the quarterback. That wasn’t really the situation. um had a couple fumbles, a couple miscues, you know, but they were seven for 16 on third down. They were 1 for four in the red zone. That to me is actually a a bigger concern. But this was the biggest concern for me. They forced four turnovers by the 13minute mark in the third quarter and the score was 14 to9. Like this Bears team needs to be back. I mean, you’re getting gift after gift after gift. I mean, like Gino Smith is just like, I’m just gonna keep turning the ball over. I’m just gonna I’m gonna keep just doing the same thing again and again and again and again. Um, and they weren’t able to capitalize enough of it. Um, I mean, the defense from the run game, I mean, 31 carries, 240 yards, 7.7 yards per carry, and they were giving up 64 yard runs, 37 yard runs, 20 yard runs. I mean, like they were getting gashed. I mean, they had essentially over a hundred yards just off of these big massive backbreaking chunk plays. Um, so, you know, the the the this is all the foundation right now. I feel like this is going to be like the cheesiest thing ever. Right now, the Chicago Bears are just the sand in the process of building their sand castle. Like, they’re just they’re they’re they’re just early right now. um they’re they’re they’re they’re they’re retooling, reworking this team, needing to rebuild um the players themselves, not the roster themselves, and then they they will need to continue to round out this roster. But uh I I I think with the expectations and the hype and the feeling of last year where it was like the Chicago Bears, Caleb Williams is going to this amazing situation. He’s going to be amazing. He’s going to be an MVP candidate and they’re going to get to the Super Bowl, right? That’s what Nick Wright was saying. And then that obviously didn’t happen. The coaching staff was a mess. Everything was a mess. And then it was like, “Okay, well that didn’t happen last year.” But now that we got Ben Johnson, now everything is going to be different. And you had two two camps again. It was people were going to either just say, “Nope, Caleb Williams and this Bears team are awful. And Caleb’s a bust. This is bad. This is bad. This is bad. Ben Johnson is an unproven head coach. He’s bad. He’s bad. He’s bad.” Or you had people that still just wanted to double triple down and be like, “Caleb Williams is going to be elite. He’s going to be special. This team’s going to be great.” Right? like Nick right double doubting again that this season Caleb Williams is going to firmly prove that he is the best quarterback in the division etc etc etc and it’s just this constant skipping steps this constant extremes of this team is going to be unbelievable unstoppable amazing elite special or this team is going to be trash and Caleb Williams is going to get benched for a backup quarterback and it’s just not the way this works it takes years it is not overnight. It is not overnight. And any of the teams that do randomly have overnight success a lot of times they take a big step back. They they they take a big step back. It’s not just, oh, they had overnight success, they were so successful, they’re so great, now they’re even greater the following year. Again, the most the most we’ve ever really kind of experienced with like an overnight success recently was with the Kansas City Chiefs, but that was already a foundation of a team with Andy Reid. um and Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill, etc., etc. Team that had already had a ton of success that was making the playoffs year after year after year with Alex Smith that when you enter Patrick Mahomes who got to sit for a year, yeah, you’re going to have tremendous amount of success. And then the next closest we kind of had was with the Philadelphia Eagles. Jaylen Herz came 2021, first year starter 20 uh 21. Wasn’t a great roster at that point. They were still even working out uh the coordinating roles. It was Nick Serani’s first year head, you know, as a head coach. They made the playoffs. Um, then 22 made a big a lot of changes. Boom. Got to a Super Bowl, played great, unstoppable until they were stopped in the Super Bowl. Then 23 a huge step backwards and then step and then and then, you know, the year three uh year Yeah. year three uh 21 22 23 year four they then won the Super Bowl, made more changes, you know, etc., etc. So, it wasn’t just like, oh, we’re kind of okay. We’re not too bad in 21. Now, we’re great 22 and now we’re just great and beyond, and now we just are going to keep winning, winning, winning winning. It’s not the way it works. It’s just not the way it works at all. Um, and so I think games like this are going to happen. Again, you would like to see the Bears be able to graduate from a scenario, uh, where it’s just like, oh man, you you you give us two turnovers, it’s game, set match. Now, you’re giving us four turnovers. you know, you you’d like to be in a situation where you don’t need a blocked field goal, although an unbelievable blocked uh field goal at that. Um, you know, you you want to see this team be better. You want to see this team evolve. But I think, you know, again, you you can feel it, you can sense it that the Bears actually have answers to the problem uh of a season, of a game, you know, that can unfold. I always talk about this coaches they need to have solutions to the problem uh that you know to the problems that emerge throughout a game and last season they didn’t have that. They they they fundamentally did not have a single answer to any problem that could arise throughout a game. The Bears this season clearly do. Um and they’re clearly better. They’re clearly a better coach team. But if we think that we’re just going to be able to snap our fingers and just see greatness in a blink of the eye, it just it just doesn’t happen that way. It just doesn’t. Uh so I think at the end of the day, um you just got to feel is my team going in the right direction? Are we getting better? Are we moving forward? Do we see growth? Do we see progress? And the answer is clearly yes. Um, and yeah, that’s all you can ask for right now. But those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about the Chicago Bears uh win 252 24 over the Raiders? How do you feel Caleb’s been playing? How do you feel about just the team’s performance as a whole? Let me know in the comments below. I read every single comment. So whether you agree with me or disagree with me, either way, let’s get in some discussions. Let’s get in some fights. But ultimately, let’s just have some fun. And please do consider subscribing. We are building an amazing community here and I absolutely love to see you part of it. I want to build something that we all legitimately feel connected to, something that we’re really excited to be part of. I think we’re well on our way to doing it. Please don’t forget to give this video a thumbs up as it really does help with the visibility and the algorithm. Thank you so much. See you next time.

You're doing a great job bro keep it
All he's been doing is calling him a bust. Keep that same energy
I Been saying it from the get go. I think Caleb Williams is similar to Dak Prescott and who I think he can emulate or surpass
Y do people keep acting like Mad Max is not a player he almost single handily won the game for the raiders
I dont understand why players cant play both sides of the line. What's the biggest difference? Stepping back with the other foot first? Is it not essentially the same job?
Why does everyone butcher Rome last name 😂😂
This dude switches up every damn week. Literally has no backbone on his takes. Just speaks irrationally for clicks…
I used to watch this guy as a child… I just turned 26… Shit is so baseless.
Clicked off after your started crying for views
O Done Zay
If CK makes that catch he would have had another TD and 300 yards passing. To be honest CK was the most glaring issue along with being unable to stop the run.
They still need a running back and the qb coach is a joke😂😂😂
Hell yea bro. U got a new subscriber Im a baseball guy but getting into football now. Grew up in Metamora IL like 3 hrs south of chicago so the bears are my team
Fix the O line and he’s a superstar
Who cares what he thinks. His word ain’t the gospel. Go BEARS 🐻!!!
Colin is high as a kite. Drake is getting better but you can’t say drake has popped and say Caleb hasn’t. Caleb has better passing stats in every category this season and last season than drake.
This guy says wins and losses doesn’t matter, but was saying it’s not working every time they lost not that they won his backtracking what he was saying and saying wins and losses don’t matter now lmao clown
id be great if the bears could actually run the ball
You are a horrible person… How do ppl listen to you?
I wish the bears had Max Crosby.
He still sucks!!
You Caleb fans are DELUSIONAL!!!😂
I disagree, Caleb Williams is Caleb Williams. Or Dak with super clutch in him. We just watched them struggle and keep us in it. Yeah last week against cowboys was entertaining, so was beating the Raiders. Caleb just experienced a rough comeback win, maybe against a 1st place team it will be easier win? Never know
