đ¨WOW: Quentin Grimesâ Agent SOUNDS OFF On Philadelphia 76ers!
[Music] This Quinton Grimes situation just gets crazier and crazier by the day. And now Quinton Grimes’s agent, David Bowman, has called out Daryl my 76ers in a recent interview with Adam Aronson over at Philly Boyce for the way that the Sixers, at least Grimes agent perceives, has handled these negotiations up to this point. In fact, Balman even went as far as to say that the Sixers are playing with Grimes’s career. basically saying that they are almost ruining his career at this point in time with their unwillingness to give him the offer that Grimes and his agent wants. We’re going to get into everything he had to say. Is what he’s saying here true? Is there some truth to it or is this just an agent trying to back up his client? I’ll give you my thoughts on everything he had to say and where the situation could go as the qualifying offer deadline just a day away on October 1st. I want to get you your read though on this whole situation as should be coming to a close at some point here soon. Up until now, who do you think has been more reasonable in these negotiations? Has it been the Sixers type S? Has it been Quinton Grimes and his camp type G for Grimes? Maybe you think neither of them have been very reasonable. Just let me know down below in the comment section. So to get you caught up on everything that’s been going on with Quinton Grimes really over the past couple of weeks and over the last week it’s really started to heat up with some of this drama between Philly and Grimes. There was a report last week from Shamsania that Grimes and the Sixers very far apart on a new contract and this was confirmed by Tony Jones of the Athletic who covers Philadelphia. The Sixers reportedly made their first and only actual offer outside of the qualifying offer to Quinton Grimes last week and we’ll go through what all his offers look like here in just a moment. But the fact that they’ve gone through this entire free agency period and a lot of their moves were based off of trying to retain Quinton Grimes and they didn’t give him him him an offer, excuse me, until last week, it’s kind of crazy. Grimes did not attend media day with the team last Friday. He of course would not participate in training camp over the weekend and he did not travel with the Sixers on Monday to Abu Dhabi. He of course would not be playing or be with the team for their games against the Knicks on Thursday or on Saturday over there in Abu Dhabi. Now, as I mentioned, the qualifying offer deadline is October 1st. That is tomorrow. So, if by tomorrow, that’s the last day the Sixers and Grimes can come to an agreement and he can sign that qualifying offer. If they don’t come to an agreement by tomorrow and negotiations continue past that point, Grimes no longer has the qualifying offer to fall back on. So, the Sixers could offer him as little money as they wanted theoretically, and there’s no option there for Grimes to take that qualifying offer. So tomorrow is the big day where we really see kind of which side ends up giving in to the other or if they can do what I thought they should have been doing this whole time and meet somewhere in the middle which they really have not been willing to do well from either perspectives at this point. Now there’s been three reported offers from Philadelphia to Quinton Grimes up to this point. The first is the one-year $ 8.7 million qualifying offer. you know, not really a offer by the Sixers because that’s automatically given to the restricted free agent at the start of their free agency, but it is a contract that again will be off the table after tomorrow. There’s also been reports Sixers have offered a one-year balloon deal. So, basically a one-year deal that’s worth more than the qualifying offer with the idea that Grimes gets more money and waves the no trade clause, which he would get in the qualifying offer. And then there was a report the Sixers offered Grimes a 4-year $39 million contract. There’s been some, you know, he says, she says on this where Grimes aside says, “Yeah, that’s what they offered.” The Sixers said we never offered that contract. If they did, it’s a pretty disrespectful contract under $10 million average annual value long-term. So, that’s kind of where we stand right now with Grimes and the situation. So, with that, let’s get into what Grimes’s agent had to say to Adam Aronson regarding his free agency and sort of their side of things. As we’ve heard a lot about from the Sixers side of things up to this point. Balman says this is not Quinton being unreasonable. This is the Sixers just not negotiating with us in any way, shape, or or form. This is on the entire negotiations as a whole. And look, I do think that the Sixers, and we’ll get to more of this in a little bit, you know, have been somewhat, you know, not willing to negotiate with Grimes, and they’re definitely a little bit at fault in this situation. But all the reports we’ve gotten from Grimes’s camp as well is that they’re looking for 20 to $25 million a year, even more, on his New Deal. I think that’s also a little bit unreasonable. And so my opinion really here on this whole thing is that both sides are at fault. Yes, the Sixers can do a better job in their negotiations, but I think Grimes and his camp have to be a little more realistic from their side of things as well. So it really does go both ways, but I get from the agents perspective why he feels a little bit slighted by Philadelphia. Now, Adam Aronson, of course, of Philly Voice, who talked with Bowman, expanding on some of what Balman had to say a little bit. Bowman confirmed to Philly Vo to Philly voice that he proposed extending the deadline for Grimes to pick up the qualifying offer to October 8th. So, we had heard that before that Grimes’ camp offered that. They now confirmed would give the sides another week to find common ground as the athletic reported on earlier this week. A source said on Friday though, the team will decline that request, which it sees as one sided. And I get why the Sixers would decline this request to extend the qualifying offer. They have a lot of the leverage here, right? At the end of the day, Grimes really needs that qualifying offer to fall back on or else it gets past that day. What is he really supposed to do at that point? The Sixers would hold all the control. So, I get why from a team perspective, they’re not willing to go past that date. But at the same time, like I know you had the leverage and I know you want to do what’s best for the team, but you can’t just extend it by a week. You’re saying that Grimes is an important part of your future. If you’re Philadelphia, you want him back long term. So, why don’t you do a little bit right by him and at least give him an extra week to see if you guys can come up with some kind of deal. So, I I get why they did it from a business perspective, but from an optics perspective, I’m not sure if it’s the best decision to not let Grimes extend that window by a week. More from Adam Aronson here. Balman gave a detailed account of a conversation he says took place between himself and Duramorei on Monday. Grimes’s agent maintains that this discussion led to those figures being introduced. This has to do with the reported 4-year $39 million deal that the Sixers offered to Grimes. In Balman’s description, Mory told him to implement the exact qualifying offer figure of just over $8.7 million as a starting salary and take that out four years with maximum annual raises of 8% and then do the math. That math does add up to the four years and about $39 million. So, if what the agent is saying here is true, while the Sixers might not have technically came to Grimes and said, “We’re going to give you a four-year $39 million offer,” the qualifying offer extended out over four years with those raises. That is what that comes out to be. And if this did happen, I’ve mentioned this before, but I think that’s very disrespectful by the Sixers. I know you want to save money and there’s no need to bet against yourself and give him this huge contract, but under $10 million a year. I know it was not a lot of production that he put up in those games for or excuse me, it was a lot of production that he put up in those games, but a small sample size from Grimes at the end of last season. Even so, like he’s still worth more than $10 million a year. Sixers are stuck at about 10. Grimes in this camp are stuck at 20, 25 plus. Can we just get somewhere in the middle around 15 and call it a day? Just both sides to me are just being a little bit stubborn. Balman as well going back to the agents side of things talking more on this Sixers front office here. There’s no other conclusion other than the Sixers wanted him to take the qualifying offer. That’s why they haven’t extended the deadline. The ball is in their court. The ball has been in their court all summer long and they haven’t attempted in any way to be serious. And look, I just think for the Sixers not negotiating a real contract until very, very recently, so close to this deadline, it’s a bad look, you know, not just for how other free agents might look at the Sixers team, which is have already had some weird free agent interactions. You think back to James Harden calling out Daryl my Quinton Grimes thing. Like, you based your whole offseason if you’re Philadelphia on Quinton Grimes, on having enough money to keep him around. You let Gersh Yabaselli walk for not a whole lot of money. Go to New York because you wanted the space to bring in Quinton Grimes, but you’re going to wait all this time and not have real negotiations and when you throw out an offer, it’s not that great. Again, I get the leverage play and I get the balls in your court, but as the agent said, you haven’t really done anything with it. So, I think that’s a little bit of a bad look and some mismanagement, honestly, here on Philadelphia’s side of things. Chime in for me. We still got more to touch on here from Grimes’ agent and the Sixers, but I want to know what your final offer would be to Quinton Grimes with the deadline for the qualifying offer being tomorrow. If you had one offer to give Grimes if you’re Daryl my Sixers, what would that offer look like years salary? Or would you just let him take the qualifying offer? Let me know what you would do if you were in Daryl my position down in the comment section. Now, coming up just around the corner, what is the most likely outcome here for Grimes and for the Sixers? Grimes’s agent touched on what he thinks is probably going to happen as we approach this deadline. I also have my own opinion on where I think this ends up going between Grimes and Philadelphia. So, stick around for that because that’s really what matters at the end of the day is what does happen after all of this drama. But before we get into all of that, guys, I got to give a big shout out to today’s presenting sponsor, and that is Prize Picks. Look, you and I, we make decisions every day. But on Price Picks, being right can get you paid. So, don’t miss any of the excitement this football and soon to be basketball season on Prize Picks, where it’s good to be right. And one of the reasons I love Price Pick so much is because they’re always implementing new features that are great for the consumer. And they have two awesome new features as well that just make the app so much better. Price Pix is the only app that offers stacks, meaning you can pick the same player up to three times in the same lineup. If you want to pick more on Jaylen Herz’s pass yards, rush yards, and touchdowns, you can pick all of them in the same lineup only on Prize Picks. And you can now follow other Prize Pix players directly on the app. Copy their lineups in one click. So whether it’s a friend, a celebrity partner, maybe you want to copy my picks as well. You just hit the follow button, check out every lineup they create in the new feed tab on prize picks. Coming up on Sunday, a big matchup between the Eagles and the Denver Broncos. Eagles looking to get to five and 0. I think AJ Brown has a bounceback game. Give me the more than 55 and a half receiving yards. JK Dobbins having a good year for Denver. Give me more than a half rushing or receiving touchdown. That is a Demon pick. So, the payout will be a little bit higher. And then Jaylen Herz more than 180 and a half passing yards. The offense has struggled for the Eagles. I think it gets back on track against a good Denver defense. It is simple as that to play, guys. So, all you got to do, download the Price Picks app today and use code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Price picks. It’s good to be right. All right, let’s get to it now. What is the most likely outcome here between Grimes and the 76ers? A few different options here, a few different contract options that he could go with. The Sixers could offer. So, what will happen? David Balman, Grimes’ agent, thinks that a sign in trade would actually be the best outcome. But at the same time, he says, “If the Sixers give him the correct one-year balloon payment, I think that would show at least on a one-year basis we’re valuing at a high level, and we think you’re going to be important for us. Yeah, we may trade you, we may not. And if we don’t, we could sign you with Bird Rights next summer if things work out, if they get that balloon deal. But right now, Quinton feels a lot of disrespect coming from Daryl and the Sixers. A lot to break down there in that little bit from Grimes’s agent. One, a sign and trade is not happening. We can stop talking about the sign and trade. We’re too deep into the offseason. There’s no one available for the Sixers to sign Grimes and move him. There’s too many complicated rules with the base year compensation rule for sign and trading restricted free agents. It’s just simply not going to happen. So, I think we can take that off of the table. And that leaves really the qualifying offer, the balloon deal, or maybe a long-term extension. I don’t think the long-term extension is happening. I think the ideal scenario for both sides, even though Bowman thinks it’s a signing trade, the ideal scenario to me is this one-year balloon deal again allows the Sixers to have his bird rights or to trade him as opposed to the qualifying offer where they could not trade him and Grimes gets more money than the qualifying offer at $8.7 million. Now, the question is, how much money will it take above that number for Grimes to be willing to wave the no trade clause? because his agent has said like it’s going to take some extra money in order for us to wave that no trade clause on that one-year deal. And right now, according to sources and according to his agent, there’s a massive gap on the value of that one-year deal. So, not only are they far apart on a potential multi-year deal and the value there, they’re far apart even on the value of a one-year deal and how much more money the Sixers would have to pay to keep Grimes around and have him wave that no trade clause. Here is Balman with more on that front. The only thing we have in front of us is the qualifying offer and what he says is a very very very small delta to buy out the no trade clause from them which we’re not going to do. Our counter is a much larger balloon number that still keeps the Sixers below the second apron and we’ll see how it goes. Otherwise, Quinton is coming to terms and coming to peace with the fact that he’ll be back in Philly on a one-year deal at the qualifying offer. Key there. Bomb had said the Sixers, or Grimes in his camp rather, want a number and are willing to sign a number on a one-year deal that keeps the Sixers below the Second Apron. The Sixers are $21.6 million right now below the second apron. How much money of that is he looking? He’s looking for a one-year $20 million deal. I I get you want the most money for your client, but the Sixers want to have some flexibility here. If you’re that close to the second apron, I don’t think it makes a lot of sense, right? So, you can give them higher than the $8.7 million. Again, I’ve always been around this number of 13 to 15ish million, maybe even, you know, closer to 16, 17 if it’s a one-year deal. Uh, but that’s a big number to keep in mind. They can’t come to an agreement on that. And again, both sides to me are in the wrong. They both need to meet somewhere in the middle. Seems like the qualifying offer is going to happen. And if he does win the qualifying offer, Grimes is probably gone after this season with the way that all works with the no trade clause and they don’t get his bird rights either. I’ll leave you with this this last quote from Balman kind of what he had to say looking at the entire situation with obviously we’re hearing a lot in the media from both sides. Bowman said that there’s statements on one side and there’s reality on the other. And I think this honestly can apply to both sides of the coin, right? Both Grimes and his team and the Sixers as well. H how are we supposed to know what is 100% true? What is 100% not? I’ll say this though, Sixers have maintained that Grimes is to them a key piece and a key part of their future. But to me, it doesn’t really seem like they’re treating him that way in these negotiations. If he’s back, they’re going to have to really work on that relationship because I imagine it’s not in a very good place right now. Predictive for me, will Quinton Grimes be on the Sixers after this season? I can’t believe I’m asking this because you go back to the end of last year, the way he was playing, man. I mean, I would have thought he was going to be on this team for the foreseeable future, but this is where we’re at now. Give me a yes, give me a no. Will Grimes be a Sixer after this upcoming season. That’ll do it here on today’s show. Be sure to hit that sub button and join the channel. Again, tomorrow is a qualifying offer deadline. So, if we do get a Grimes deal, you know, we got you covered with a video right here on 76ers now. Preseason games coming up as well. Sixers play the Knicks on Thursday and Saturday. So, we’re getting into real basketball. You don’t want to miss a thing. Join the channel and we’ll see you next time right here on the show. [Music]

Which side has been more reasonable: The Sixers (Type 'S') or Quentin Grimes (Type 'G')
G 45 million dollars
I love Grimes, but that sample size was so small. He's not worth 2O $30 million, not yet.
He doesn't deserve what he and his agent are asking for and he's not gonna get it from anywhere else
S
The money will always be there. Play for the love of the sport not for money.
A he was on the Mavs bench. The Sixers did him a favor and traded for him or he wouldnât even get an offer close to what the Sixers are offering
Okay… and ?? đ¤ˇđżââď¸
they have VJ, McCain, Maxey, Etc… why pay him? Grimes has No power. Sign the QO. They basically got him for nothing, so losing him for nothing doesn't matter to them. Makes sense to me. đ¤ˇđžââď¸
I'd give him 4 years 52 million dollars.
Bro I would at least offer him like 13 mil. Or 12. I feel like 15 is fair butyea 76ers are bad with these contracts
The Sixers gave him the only shot to play now this is his thanks him and his agent come on man
Morey is such a a terrible GM
This bul wants the contract he wants after playing good for 25 gamesđđ đ on a injuries riddled team and of course he had the green light Ridiculous.
I Agree with the Sixers they know a players worth. Please don't leave it up to the fans!!
Nobody offer him shit to match….Nobody so b mad at the league and ya agent..Houston needs him and they still haven't tried to sign him
guys been on 3 teams in 4 season and got ZERO offers from other teams. the level of delusion is astounding
Give that man his money!
Let the man go please, I'm tired of hearing about him,
I really dislike this đ Daryl Morey. Harden told us who he was when he ran outta here. Championship caliber teams donât care about luxury tax. Make moves and stop trying to be slick.
S
3 years/ 50M and not a cent higher
16.5 over 4 with a player option in year 4.
Give him 4 years – 60 million. That's 15 mil a year.
Iâm backing sixers on this one they gave you a chance have some kind of loyalty
Obviously, you know nothing about business. The guy has been traded 4 times and literally has done nothing to deserve 20 million a year.
Nah. I'm good. Let Grines walk. đ
I side with the Sixers. Grimes is not going to start long term. The team is cash strapped. Unfortunate for Grimes.
He's worth more than 10, but is what the team asking him to do for the team worth more than 10m?
He's not going to be playing 20m minutes and even 16m might be too much pending on how much playing time he was actually intended to see
Sixers fans that say the they donât need Grimes because they have to many guards every team has 2 starting guards and 2 backup guards so how is that to many guards fans that donât want Grimes on the team are scared because they know heâs just as good as Maxey, McCain and VJ if he was drafted by the Sixers they would be mad if they didnât resign him đ¤Śââď¸
G
Get a better offer from another team or shut up and sign⌠or sit out and watch Edgecombe make you irrelevant đ¤ˇđžââď¸
call lakers yall can always get maxi and gabe in snt
He wants more money because Jared McCain got hurt
I personally think this means they value VJ and has confidence in him . In an interview Nurse said that he plans on giving him a lot of minutes
Itâs funny how players are so greedy and money hungry they choose to not continue being disciplined in their craft and would rather bitch and moan instead of signing and playing. If these dudes really love playing they would sign and play.
Look⌠is Grimes really worth more than Oubre? Letâs be honest. Any other team in the league, who would want him for more than 2x Oubreâs number who is a better defender and more of a proven scorer. I think youâre hoping for him to be like a KCP type on a championship team. And he was an 8M and 14M player during those chip years. At 22M he was a salary dump in the Bane trade.
Hard to tell.
50 million for 4 years.
Don't pay him for multiple years. Give him 10 million for 1 season and a 2 million signing bonus… But let's see if he steps his game up or regresses…. No multiple year contracts right now. They need to rebuild…. Embid and George aren't players you can count on down the stretch. We need to reexamine the process and start from scratch. Get rid of embid and George and start over …. Do what you can to salvage some money and tank you very much!!! That's the only way this team is gonna find success. Embid isn't strong enough or durable enough to make it through a season, let alone into the finals. He falls down too much. His legs won't take much more. He's finished! I love him. But he's finished.
Hey doesnt hold any cards simple
G
