Mike Vrable last season as titans head coach 6-11, Brian Cahallan so far 3-18

  1. Only issue I had with Mike was him letting Todd Downing coach as long as he did. Other than that, he is a way better leader than BC and it’s not really close

  2. Two separate things can both be true. Vrabels time here had ran its course. And the titans also hired the wrong guy after him.

  3. Yeah and look what he had to deal with that year. QB suddenly got old. AJ replacement never developed, O Line was a disaster, pretty much had to be one dimensional with Henry.

Yet if you actually look at the games, Titans lost 2 OT games, and lost 2 games by a field goal. They were literally 4 plays away from being 10-7 and in the playoffs. And the idiot owner fired him because she didn’t like him wanting more roster control and he didn’t agree with her GM pick (whom she has also since fired). Geesh, could Vrabel have possibly done worse?

Do you feel this team is 4 plays away from anything resembling a competent football team?

  4. One of them inherited a playoff team and another did not. Just adding another irrelevant comparison.

  5. Down vote me all you want. Mike Vrabel is the best coach this team has ever had. Ask any beat reporter what coach had his  players buy in most. It’s Mike.

They will kill us in week 7.

  6. I get to post the next Mike Vrabel post, we clearly need more of it. What if someone with dementia uses this sub and keeps forgeting about him being gone?

  7. Brian Callahan being dogshit and Vrabel needing to go are not two mutually exclusive things. No, we should not have kept Vrabel. The team had regressed horribly, and he refused to fire incompetent coordinators. We ALSO should not have hired a glorified water boy who got all his credentials from sitting in a room with Peyton Manning and fetching coffee for Joe Burrow.

  8. I understand moving on from Vrabel. But there is so much weird cope on this subreddit about how Vrabel is still bad or whatever. Yeah he inherited a playoff team, but he continued that success until the worst GM run of all time caught up with him. Mistakes were made in playoff games, but we were in playoff games. I remember the Vrabel years, I remember how frustrating it could be, but I also remember the feeling that we could beat anybody. Any Given Sunday applied to us. It was a mixed bag for sure, but he was a real coach and we had a real team. Now, we are a farce. I do believe in the young guys and Cam Ward though. No idea why Callahan is still here

  9. Does Vrabel reach 4 wins on the Patriots before Callahan reaches 4 wins on the Titans with a 17 game head start is the real question

  10. J Rob is a football terrorist and Vrabel had too much loyalty to his coordinators. Callahan has no redeeming qualities at this point.

  11. When will you people actually open your eyes and realize that the OWNERSHIP is the biggest issue?

  12. Don’t forget Vrabel also lost the last 7 games of the year before. So he was 6-18 over his last 24 games. So in a similar time frame, he has 3 more wins than Callahan.

  13. HATED the move when we fired Vrabel. Two years later and I still hate it. He is more of a culture guy than a football mastermind, but he proved with a good roster sky is the limit. And you know what? I don’t even blame him for wanting more roster control after Brown was traded away, that shit was inexcusable.

I love the Titans but our owner is stupid and we have only ever been good by accident.

  14. I pray for the day when people stop posting on this sub about a guy who is no longer with the team and wont be with the team again. So many vrabel and aj brown posts, I feel like im taking crazy pills.

  15. Firing Vrabel was the correct choice.

Vrabel needed a fresh start elsewhere and the Titans needed to usher in a new era. In a vacuum you never ought to fire a coach as qualified as Vrabel, but with context it made perfect sense at the time.

The strategy was correct, our execution of said strategy was what failed.

    Firing Vrabel was correct.

    Hiring Callahan was incorrect.

  16. It’s funny how people cover for Ran and Callahan last season saying no one could succeed with what JRob did, but then say Vrabel wasn’t a good coach because he didn’t succeed after JRob massacred the roster.

  17. I’m a big Vrabel fan and never wanted him fired but even I could admit he was losing the locker room and teams just had us figured out, both offensively and defensively.

  18. I need to save this to a text document so i can just copy/paste it:

Just because Callahan has been a disaster does NOT mean firing Vrabel was wrong. The team blew the next hire, we all agree on that. But we were not making progress with Vrabel, his time had played out here. It was time to move on. You can compare Vrabel to Callahan all you want, it doesn’t change it. Firing Vrabel was right. We just blew the next hire.

  19. The amount of rose tinted views on Vrabel just because Callahan sucks more are so bad.

Vrabel fell ass backwards into Henry, AJ Brown, and Tannehill 2.0. Was he a great leader? Sure as hell. Did he get the most out of a roster? Yup.

He also kept making bone headed hiring choices. None of them worked out and even his idea of running the defense himself was terrible. His time in TN was done. There were obvious issues between him, GMs, and ownership. Nothing was saving that.

Now you can say that and STILL say Callahan was a worse choice and the wrong hire to rebuild around.

  20. I find it crazy that Titan fans are still ok with firing Vrabel

He is the closest thing we’ve had to a franchise, long term coach since JF, and we blew it all up

Yeah he wanted roster control. And maybe he should have fucking got it, since he is the only one in the last 10 years in the building with half a fucking brain about football and how to win

  21. The Titans lost 18 out of their last 24 games under Vrabel. The Titans peaked running a prime Derrick Henry into the ground (who knew) and playing good enough defense. From everything we read on the matter, he wanted more organizational control but was also hesitant to see a more analytical approach and was too loyal to some of his guys. Firing him was not a consensus choice among the fanbase but there is no denying that people have changed their minds on the matter based on Callahan’s performance. I think firing Vrabel was the right move but Callahan was a bad hire. You pair that with J-Rob and Carthon destroying the future for a while and it just makes it look worse.

I think there is blame on both Vrabel and ownership but no one even hired Vrabel when he was available and he went to a place where he’s considered a hero. So it’s not like the whole NFL jumped at the opportunity to get him.

The Titans need to get a guy that believes in Ward, can run a team, and can be on the same page as the front office for what they want their football team to look like.

  22. That’s fine, but Mike Vrabel isn’t gonna take a team to a Super Bowl. The only way he does that if he has an out of this world quarterback and offensive system run by somebody else not him.

Vrabel did know all the rules though, and he knew how to work as a head coach during a game. His practices were bullshit. It was more about him getting out on the field and was the players, and everybody stayed hurt all the time.

  23. I like the part where we pretend they both inherited the same caliber of team. I’m no defender of the dude, but if you inherit a gutted dumpster fire, don’t be shocked when there’s smoke and everything smells like shit.

  24. The problem with Callahan ending up as an objectively bad hire, is that it’s convinced people that firing Vrabel was a bad choice. 2 things can be true. Callahan is in over his head as HC, and Vrabel had the team on a long, slow decline after 2019.

Vrabel is basically this team’s toxic ex. Just because Cally didn’t work out, doesn’t mean Vrabel would have

  25. I mean we were on the down-trend when Vrabel got fired. Of all the arguments you can make against Callahan, this is a dumb one. We would have been worse than 6-11 last year even if Vrabel was our head coach. We’ve been bleeding talent every year and striking out on free agents and draft picks. There’s 100 reasons Callahan needs to be fired ASAP, but quoting Vrabel’s record from 2 years ago is just a brainless argument.

  26. I really like Vrabel but he got himself up out of here. He knew he had a landing spot if he waited.

It’s not tampering if you wait a year 😉

  27. I still stand on the hill that firing Vrabel was a mistake…I believe the lack of talent finally outweighed the ability to coach. This team became so devoid of talent because of Amy/JR/Ran that he couldn’t make up the difference with coaching.

A coach can be the best coach in the world, but they can’t coach borderline unrosterable players to play against an NFL-caliber team.
