I sincerely hope this is fake. But in case it’s not, the Cardinals opting to keep Marmol instead of pursuing Pujols is both devastating and unsurprising

  1. If it’s true, let him get out his growing pains with LAA, and then come to STL when we actually have a good roster

  2. …..we have molina, whenever he wants the job it’s his.

No reason to hire anyone important until thn

  3. We don’t need yet another old player as manager retread. Let’s hire some voices from outside the organization for once

  4. After the last dozen years of his career you would think he might seek out the place where he literally had all of his success, especially knowing we’re in a transition period… But what do I know?

  5. Similar post in Angels sub is absolutely shitting in this possibly. Wild how different the fans react to him.

  6. Hall of fame star players usually don’t make the best managers. This is true in all major sports. How many HOF players made it to be HOF coaches or managers? I can think of 2 or 3 maybe.

Usually the best, most successful managers are guys who had to scrape by because stars aren’t who needs the help it’s the replacement player

  7. I called this a long time ago. Albert loves Cardinals FANS. He loves the Angels ownership and organization more.

  8. Unless something changed, the Angels had a professional services clause in his contract for something like 10 years following his retirement.

  9. I know the track record of former star players becoming managers isn’t great—but you can’t deny that having Albert at the helm would be fun.

  10. What qualifications does Pujols have that would make him a good candidate? Am I missing something or are some of you just really wanting to see him in a Cards uniform again?

  11. Is this entire comment section bots?? Why the fuck would anyone think thats real?

  12. I’m not losing sleep over this. Whoever the next guy is needs to have experience.

And of top of that, if it fails, are YOU gonna fire Albert? You’re not just hiring/firing him, you’re doing the same to the legend, too.

  13. 1. Its fake. They have not announced a new manager and no one has actually reported that Pujols has the job. There are rumors he’s in the running, however.

    2. He does have a 10-year services clause with the Angel’s that kicked in when he retired, right?

    3. Quit falling for obvious non-legit news sources.

  14. How can they defend this fucking horseshit man. If they aren’t going to spend shit on a roster, give me the bread and circus of Yadi and Puj taking over the team

  15. I’ll tell ya, I don’t think Pujols will be a good manager. Usually the elite players don’t become great coaches, managers, etc, it’s the bench guys, and fringe players who turn into great coaches.

  16. It’s speculation right now. Honestly, I’d want Yadier Molina as a bench coach next to Oli next season & watch the team flourish & if it works out alright, make Yadi the next skipper.

  17. Nah this is great. Let’s find out if he sucks as a manager without it affecting his cardinals legacy one bit. Surely if we want him we can have him whenever he’s gotten some experience and we’ve moved on from Marmol or the next guy.

On that note I think the Rangers should hire Yadi! Family connection at least!

  18. I believe he is still bound by the personal services contract that Moreno gave him when he first signed in 2012. Regardless, if he is a good manager for them, then good for him. And if he’s a bad manager for them, I would much rather he was a bad manager for *them* than for us.

  19. Wasn’t there something in his contract that tied him to the angels for a few years anyways?
